Vikings Discussion and Random Thoughts

Hey, this was pretty cool. I used MS Edge and searched “MN Vikings news”, and skoloholics showed up on page 2! It’s taken a while, but we’re finally moving up the search results. It may not sound like much, but compared to where we started, it’s a big deal. It’s been a long process of making adjustments to maximize SEO rankings (don’t ask, because I have no clue what it means), but we’re getting there!

Vikings News

Brian O’Neill is bonding with the new Vikings offensive linemen, per Vikings.com. Also at Vikings.com, on Lunchbreak, Donovan Jackson and Kobe King made ESPN’s list of top 100 picks, steals, and fits.

NFL News

From MSN, eight teams will debut “Rivalries” jerseys in 2025. It’s a way for Nike to make money.

Check out the latest news from around the NFL in NFL.com’s NFL news roundup. One of the stories is that the Browns are not picking up Kenny Pickett’s fifth-year option. No surprise, they have enough QBs on their roster.

Bettors are high on the Bears, according to Yahoo Sports. Good luck.

Media Selection

This is funny, some of you can relate. I’m not quite THAT old yet. Enjoy!

  • Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

A former Biden administration State Department budget analyst has pleaded guilty after being accused of embezzling over $650,000 over two years.

64-year-old Levita Almuete Ferrer of Maryland illegally wrote 60 checks to herself and three to someone she had a personal relationship with, as she held the signature authority over a State Department checking account.

Ferrer was actively stealing the public funds between March 2022 and April 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington D.C.

Apparently there are others who have done the same thing, and more prosecutions are coming.

Not sure what that last sentence mean but it could be bad for her.

She could face a maximum of 10 years in prison.
As part of her plea agreement, Ferrer agreed to pay the stolen amount in restitution to the U.S. government and be liable for a forfeiture money judgment in that same amount.

Ponies seems like one of the things you should only bet when you know ‘The Fix Is In’.
And of course know what the ‘Fix’ is and trust the person doing the ‘fixing’.
And ‘Trusting the Fixer’ seems like an Oxymoron.

In a shocking display of unchecked political hostility, a Maine high school teacher has openly called for the Secret Service to “take out” President Donald Trump and members of his administration. This dangerous rhetoric, which would be unthinkable if aimed at any other president, underscores the growing culture of violence and intolerance on the left.

In another win for the Trump administration that underscores the strength of President Trump’s America First economic agenda, China has signaled its openness to talk with the president about lowering tariffs. This development clearly acknowledges that the tough stance on trade, long dismissed by globalists and the mainstream media, is yielding results. After years of America being taken advantage of through one-sided trade deals, Trump’s firm approach seems to be bringing Beijing to the table.

Following are the number of Article III federal judges serving in the federal judiciary as of May 2, 2025, organized by the president who appointed them.

Appointed by Democrat presidents:

Joe Biden: 236
Barack Obama: 239
Bill Clinton: 30
Jimmy Carter: 0

Appointed by Republican presidents:

Donald Trump: 238
George W. Bush: 113
George H.W. Bush: 10
Ronald Reagan: 11
Gerald Ford: 0

So as of today, the Vikings still only have 32 players on contract for 2026. Thus we are still 21 players short of a full roster.

Here is what those 32 players alone cost:

Total Cap Liabilities: $327,925,321

Top 51: $326,297,321

Team Cap Space: minus $32,425,321

Offense: $177,804,010

Defense: $147,375,656

Special: $1,117,655

$32.4M in the hole, and missing 21 players.

The high energy prices during Joe Biden’s presidency directly resulted from increased environmental regulations on energy production. The regulations slowed down domestic energy production and consequently led to increased costs. Biden also implemented the Waste Emissions Charge, which is the equivalent of a natural gas tax, in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act and implemented by the Environmental Protection Agency in November 2024. Trump has now rescinded this charge, and you’ll see Natural gas prices decline as well.

It depends on what the exploration survey says about the deposits. Natty can be the byproduct of an oil well. Oil can be the byproduct of Natty well.

One thing that I haven’t seen happen yet is gas prices bottoming.
The crude oil prices dropped similar to the Stock Markets, but prices at the pump haven’t changed much. It’s been $3.09 for weeks out here.

Not sure why yet. Maybe oil companies are waiting out the tariff results.
Maybe the Whitehouse is filling the SPR back up after Biden drained it, keeping free market supply levels the same.

The crude oil prices dropped similar to the Stock Markets, but prices at the pump haven’t changed much. It’s been $3.09 for weeks out here.

Not sure why yet. Maybe oil companies are waiting out the tariff results.

The oil companies don’t seem to have any discouragement for collusion (my word for it), they all seem to put the markup at what they want as long as it’s competitive to their competitors. The fact that they all are flush with profits points to them all not trying to “compete”.

After some years of bitterness post Gretzky trade, I really don’t dislike LA anymore. Strong fan base, a big revenue generating team in the NHL, always competitive. Unfortunately for the fourth year in a row they met the Oilers in round 1 and despite brimming with confidence after winning the first two games at home, eventually the sleeping giant awoke.

$20 is nothing. Check out speeding tickets in Wisconsin.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:

  • Minor Speeding (1-10 mph over limit): A fine of $175.30 and 3 points.
  • Moderate Speeding (11-15 mph over limit): A fine of $175.30 and 4 points.
  • More Significant Speeding (16-19 mph over limit): A fine of $200.50 and 4 points.
  • Aggressive Speeding (20-24 mph over limit): A fine of $225.70 and 6 points.
  • Beyond 24 mph over limit: The cost can increase significantly, potentially exceeding $800, and may result in additional penalties, including license suspension.

I personally think the fines for speeding should be high. There are way too many speeding a-holes on the roads, and many of them are dangerous with how fast they go, changing lanes and weaving through traffic. Now, this may differ from the opinions of people who live in rural areas, where speeding can certainly seems less hazardous, but in the cities, it needs to be addressed.

KFEY93
Reply to  JRo_42

In larger cities that is a problem for sure. In NoDak the most people that cause accidents are the people driving 8-10 mph UNDER the speed limit and aren’t paying attention or cant pay attention because they are ancient in age. That slows down traffic and people driving at or above the speed limit are going to get around them ASAP and thats when accidents happened. If everyone just paid a little more attention and drove a little faster, there wouldn’t be an issue. I know that sounds agest but do you know how many times iv been in a hold up in traffic and I finally get around the culprit and all i see his a big head of grey hair, glasses and a handicap tag on the vehicle? Almost every time. Stay off the road.

Moron drivers is not a totally independent issue vs speeders, but yes, there are many poor drivers on the roads. Another issue might be that people don’t wear their glasses when they drive (many are not legal to drive without, yet they refuse). I cannot tell you how many people tell me they drove to exams without their glasses (“they are at home” or “I don’t really need them, I see fine” – which isn’t true). I cannot also tell you how many people have told me they didn’t pass their driver’s test, but the clerk gave them their license anyway (some being told they should “probably” get their eyes checked). That itself is infuriating.

There is no escaping physics, leaving the road at higher speed means more significant injuries. Plus you can always count on the freedom lovers to not wear their seatbelt, nothing like flying through the window of a rolling car at 65 mph to test Darwinian theory.

JRo and I are on the same page…North Dakotans love to pay speeding fines on the 65 mph stretch of MT 16 between Glendive and Sidney (connecting Williston to the west bound interstate – Billings commercial stores) and I have learned to be very mindful of someone swinging out to pass on the bridge (double yellow line) right next to my turnoff (and subsequently having a head on collision as I turn onto the highway not expecting traffic in my lane) or passing as they are going up a hill on the double yellow. I could GAF if they are written off, hopefully they all die instantly, but it is the innocent family coming the other way that gets the shaft.

My wife and drove from San Antonio to El Paso which is a long stretch of dessert. And like ND is very sparsely populated. The speed limit on the interstate was 80 mph. I had the cruise set around 87 iirc. As it is in ND, the interstate there was built for higher speeds. Even going that fast, it was around a 9 hour drive. A very boring drive.

Stocks absolutely go down, but the long term trend is about 10% growth so in the long term yes they should never move down.

The overall growth rate over the last 52 weeks trended into Trump’s first days, not a stratospheric jump.

Nonetheless, those of us that hold mutual funds in the market (depending on what the core strategy of the funds is) probably have less value in equities currently than in January. 8% is 8%. Just sayin don’t hang the banners quite yet.

After making every racing day one summer, I was up a total of $543 dollars. I realized I could just pick up one bartending shift per week and be better off and have more free time. Only been back a few times for the corgi races or Fathers day.

That said, you are betting against other people, not the casino. They take their cut, just like the rake on a poker table. Casino does not care who wins with pari-mutuel betting, they just want the action to be big.

It is very gratifying to pick a horse getting no respect. I hit a 90-1 at Tampa Bay downs back in the day on spring break in the early 80s. $2 bet got me beer money for days. That kind of got me hooked.

Very insightful Surly. I have seen some folks get hooked on gambling, and end up losing everything and more. I guess that is what has always kept me from partaking.

Worked with a guy that loved to gamble and bet on everything and went to Vegas several times a year. He used to say even the “very best gamblers” still lose money and the others lose big. From a monetary standpoint, putting aside the thrill, there are no good gamblers.

Yep.
My only consistent gambling is a lottery ticket every other week.

Yeah, gambling is bad. I still bet on football, but it was a total of $50 last season. Stock market is also a hell of a gamble if you play that day trading or options thing. I do not attempt that, but have some friends that tried the day trading thing. Not for me.

I look at my football wagers as buying a lotto ticket. I realize I am throwing money away most probably, so I keep the amounts very small.

That is how I treat casinos. I will go into them and blow a $20 sometimes. I think I am about $20 ahead lifetime because I quit as soon as I get up.

I view the $20 as an entertainment expense, no different than going to a movie and getting a ticket, popcorn, drink and candy.

Those are always fun. My $40 to accidently win $800 in Deadwood will be my shining gambling moment so far. Iv been in a group where we won $1200 – $1500 in pull tabs but it was split between 3-8 ways.

Any real Wild fan would not be disappointed. They have a long record of playing abysmal playoff hockey. Hopefully they softened up the Golden Knights a bit.

Quote from some dude on Bookface: “The Wild are the first team in MLB/NFL/NHL/NBA history to make the playoffs 8+ years in a ten-year-span and losing in the first round every time”.

Sad. Just sad.
