Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Wow, last week ended in a flurry and carried on into the weekend. We had our first baseball game on Wednesday night, and the kids did GREAT. Kiddo pitched two really good innings to start the game, and our best hitter wanted to hit, despite having a fractured ankle, and delivered two RBI hits, including a walk-off base hit to win the game. Such a great group of kids, it’s going to be a fun year.
After the game, kiddo and I high-tailed it for Grand Forks. I had tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld on Thursday, so kiddo and I decided to spend a couple days at the water park hotel in Grand Forks, and do a little hiking at Turtle River State Park. The water park hotel was meh. There was only one big slide, although that one slide was pretty fun. Also, the water wasn’t overly warm, and the hot tub wasn’t working. Also, the hours were very limited, only open from 4pm – 9pm. They said they have longer summer hours, but that makes no sense because it’s an indoor water park, but whatever.
Jerry Seinfeld was AWESOME, he’s still funny as hell at 71 years old. I definitely recommend going to see him if you get a chance. I laughed for the entire hour he was on stage, it was a really good time. Also, Turtle River State Park was beautiful, we’re definitely going to get back up there again soon to camp and spend a few days. The hiking was awesome, and the river has pike, rainbow trout, and channel catfish.

Vikings News
MSN has a piece on J.J. McCarthy’s insane stat line from OTAs this year. Dude completed 58 of 66 passes, and threw 23 touchdowns to only one interception. Hey, I know it’s only OTAs, but it’s better than hearing news saying he looked like crap & threw a bunch of picks.
From the Star-Tribune, the Vikings signed GM Kwesi-Adofo Mensah to a mulit-year extension to keep him in Minnesota. I’m glad to see it, he’s helped build a tremendous roster, and has the team poised to compete now and into the future.
Andrew Van GInkel wants to be in Minnesota and is glad the Vikings signed him to a recent extension, per the Strib. Some Twins news from the Strib, Correa was ejected from the on-deck circle and he’s not sure why.

Okudah was getting first team reps at CB during OTAs.
Guess he is ‘next man up’ until Blackmon is fully cleared and ready for game action.

Wrenage’s rant about technologically inept senior leadership hits a little close to home.
I am very good with spreadsheets….but I find myself struggling with this whole Microsoft Teams thing. I find it extremely cumbersome and difficult to work with…And I think some of my employees message me in teams instead of using the perfectly fine Outlook email just to piss me off.
Oh well, good thing I am being DOGED – time to sit on my front porch and not have to learn new things.
I was the same way. We had Outlook, Teams, Messanger and Texting, plus a few others, so it was a pain in the rear to follow them all. I told everyone, I was only looking for at Outlook
If I got a request to “sort an Excel file by a column”, I would not do it, but send step by step instructions on how they could do it.
Our company was so inefficient.
Someone alert the authorities. Tuesday has been stolen and someone is just recycling Monday in its place.
Do you alert the authorities if they are ‘the ones that did it’?
Or is it ‘the ones that didn’t do it’ in this case?
Welcome to Tuesday,

Went on a fishing trip with a group of guys, a friend of a friend would say, him and his wife have a love hate relationship. I hate to lover, but love to hate her. This reminds me of Tuesdays around here.
Be a lot more like here if she leaves him for another guy and he still won’t stop talking about how she is the greatest woman to ever walk the face of the earth and then when her new boyfriend dumps her too he still continues to talk about how great she is and that there is something wrong with every guy in the world and that is why she is single.
I never understood that mindset.
Once it was over with a girl/woman it is over. Whatever caused the breakup didn’t go away. My fault/hers/circumstances/whatever.
I went to Basic and my HS girlfriend found another guy. Afterwards she tried to restart our relationship and while I thought the world of her the trust was broken, no going back.

I had my first opportunity to chum around with a small commercial beekeeper on Saturday. Probably the two most burning questions I had were how much does a bee sting hurt (I use this as a descriptor for patients when I inject lidocaine)??? and am I deathly allergic to bee stings???-doubtful.
I’ve been stung by evil yellowjackets and bald faced hornets but the only time I can recall receiving a bee sting I was 5? or 6? I remember being a big pussy making my grandma fuss over me after I got stung on the back of the neck.
I resolved not to act like a big pussy with the beekeeper. I wore pants and a long sleeve shirt and put on a hat and veil. He had a combo hat/veil and shirt, I think I looked cooler. Only flowers I spotted in the area were f’ing leafy spurge, he is planning on moving to a canola field.
The bees did not readily accept me as their keeper haha.
He opened the first couple of hives, glanced at the brood box and then pulled the frames out of the super one by one, pointing out brood vs eggs vs larva, how to evaluate the health of the queen. Spotted a couple of queens.
After that, he let me go to town. Next five or six hives, I got a couple of stings on my right hand/finger but didn’t scream and sob, just flicked the stinger off and apologized to the poor worker who gave her life to defend against the intruding fingers. Otherwise, could push bees out of the way to better see the brood, let them crawl on my hands, etc…
Next we came to a hive that was “strong” when he put it to bed in the fall, when we opened it and I lifted the super off the brood box he immediately knew there was a problem (it was “weak”), suspected the queen was either aging out or was dead. A lot louder hum from those bees and the workers were all over us. I didn’t notice one stung my watch band as I was holding frame after frame but could feel that there were dozens of bees latched onto my left hand and wrist. Got four stings in rapid succession and he said go ahead and smoke your wrist from the bee smoker, helps dissipate the pheromones.
We then moved some queen cells from one hive to another, shook a bunch of frames of bees into another hive, I don’t remember the details as to why and what we were doing but when you shake bees they also become a little annoyed and buzz around you, give you a couple of stings.
It was pretty amazing though. My hands were completely covered with beeswax and propolis aka bee “spit” mixed with resin and nectar (propolis is bee glue, they use it to hold all the frames together and seal any little openings). Smelled so good.
I look forward to raising a couple of hives next year.
I remember as a preteen being at summer event at a park.
Someone disturbed a hive in some bamboo and they swarmed out and stung a bunch of us. I got stung several times, no allergic reaction thankfully. But I did learn not to mess with beehives. That message was ‘driven home’, pun intended.
Good luck with the ‘Hive Adventures’ next year.
If you would also like to attract some deer to your place, I know a flower that is good to plant for bees and is like crack to deer.
I have that (maybe the same) antelope doe on my place again that squawks at me when I walk. There are also a couple of buck antelopes that are not to skittish this time of year that let me get pretty close to them in the evenings. Haven’t seen many deer (those fuckers will eat my little saplings if I don’t keep them sprayed with pigs’ blood).
Plant some sainfoin and you’ll have more deer and they will be so obsessed with the sainfoin that they won’t even think about the trees.
Stay away from stinging insects. My tale of whoa from last week.
Sitting in a golf cart and noticed two ‘yellow flies’ (Florida maybe) and flicked them off. Didn’t notice a bit but about a minute later got an extremely iching feeling on back of hard. Really intense, scratch some but backed off. then about five minutes later big time burning feeling. Went home and soaked in ice water, got a little better.
Woke up the next morning, and hand looked like boxer who had broken three bones in hand, swelling so large couldn’t close fingers.
Gradually over day and lots of soaking got little better, Then was sitting on patio and talking to wife, looked down and there was another fly on the same hand that bit me again. Big problem now.
Now on an oral steroid waiting for hand to return to normal. Me and yellow flys don’t get along well.
Yikes.
I do carry an epinephrine autoinjector and a naloxone autoinjector just in case I run into someone that needs one.
I guess after you get stung enough times your body “learns” not to swell up with bee stings. My wrist that got stung 4x swelled up noticeably relative to the right but wasn’t too bad.
Last year I was talking with the farmer we get beef from, he used to keep bees but gave it up because he was allergic, he has a friend that tends the hives back away from the house. Anyway, a single solitary bee comes buzzing around slowly (it was a hot day), I hadn’t ever been stung because if you leave them alone they usually leave you alone. Well for some reason this one just landed on my face and stung me on the cheek. After this happened the farmer told me they sometimes will mistake sunglasses for shade, or fly up under the brim of your hat (he had taken his off, I wasn’t wearing one). Anyway my face swelled up, I didn’t take anything for it (it wasn’t real sore) and we went on our way. The next day it was so swollen I decided to get it checked out, the doctor thought there was some infection in it and gave me some antibiotics. It finally went down, and I figured that was the end of it.
Fast forward a few weeks, I’m at a state park hiking, I don’t know if the guy ahead of me stirred them up or what, but suddenly I’m being attacked by a swarm of bees. I took off running back to our camper. ended up with about 7 or 8 bee stings, this time my daughter went and got me some Sudafed, was not a fun day. Anyway, although I’m not “afraid” of bees, they are not my friends (although I still like honey).
I’ve watched a lot of YT videos…lots of veteran beekeepers are minimalistic when it comes to protective gear (after all, it is usually hot when the bees are active and who wants to wear a full suit), but I’ve never seen one not wear a veil…cuz getting bit on the nose or eyelid is no fun no matter how tolerant you are of them. The way my wrist swelled up, I can only imagine how it would feel if that were my nose.
Most honeybees (non Africanized) are pretty mellow most of the time, it is when they are queenless or in fall when nectar resources plummet and robbing behavior from other insects increase that they get aggressive. Maybe your state park hike coincided with one of those two times in a hive cycle.
Had a grandpa who had beehives. I was prob 10 or less, stung me under the eye. I swelled , couldn’t see any light for 3-4 days.
I was working outside one summer a few years back. Had a can of Mountain Dew that I was sipping on while working. Took a drink, felt a chunk go into my mouth and than the bastard stung me in the far back corner of my mouth. Hurt like hell but luckily I am not allergic.
“Chum” with a beekeeper? You mean like this?
I read the genius that is Spielberg, accidently made Jaws great. The Mechanical shark kept breaking down and he got frustrated waiting for it to get fixed, so he just cut the scenes where you would normally see the shark and just had the music.
Yep, it worked out really well.
I just watched Jaws a couple of months ago again. Good times!
Not sure I would classify hanging out with bees/hornets/wasps as a good experience. And I would likely just run from the opportunity to chum around with them.
SoCal is devasted.
I was hoping that the freaks would provide some entertainment.

Well Plaid.
Do you like the cute little guys dressed like girls or the big husky women dressed like men? And then there’s some you can’t tell which is which.
People used to have to go to a circus to see the ‘Freak Show’.
Plus it is free now.
And we have a National Month to celebrate it – GMAFB!
“Free, Free Palestine” is the new “Heil Hitler”.
Elon’s was for sure more pointed (not that that makes him a Nazi, just saying I can understand the attention it got).
That said, it wouldn’t matter if they were both the same. People are going to see what they want to see to justify their own opinions/ideologies. It has nothing to do with truth and there’s no trying to find understanding or common ground.
LOL…
It wouldn’t matter if Elon had his hand the same as Corey Booker.
If you support Trump or are an R, you are labeled a Nazi.
Did you watch the 2024 campaign where they called Trump Hitler everyday of the week?
Did you see where the media said Trumps MSG event was a Nazi rally, while Clinton and JFK’s MSG events were perfectly fine?
Down vote for you because apparently you’ve missed the obvious.
(I think you and I are saying the same thing.)
Probably.
I just don’t think it would have mattered if Musk had is hand opened, given the Hitler talk of the last few years.
I agree with you. I was trying to say that Elon’s motion was more wonky and eye-catching than Booker’s. But yeah, the Nazi talk is getting old, among other things from the MSM.
Free Palestine indeed. If Israel were to leave completely tomorrow, Palestine would immediately go back to Homas control of the country. That is free?
Orange Man bad!
Fake News will either try to turn it into a problem that DJT caused or they will ignore completely.
Obviously he’s only making GDP grow like this to make his rich friends more money.
Oh no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First it was runaway inflation.
Then it was a recession.
It can’t be good if Trump is the prez…….
We like that
That’s big.
yesssssssssssss
gooooooooooooooooooooood
Damn, that has to hurt the Lions.
The plumber is making bank off from us this weekend. Friday we had no water and some sludge out of some faucets. Apparently the filter system was going bad. But no, that wasn’t it. Now after more investigation this morning, it appears they may be a leak in the pressure switch or line somewhere. Now they are going to pull the pump and see if they can find the issue. We have water, but the pressure pump keeps switching off and on and so we will have good pressure temporarily and then it will fade down to almost nothing and then back again. Gotta love it.
Sounds like a check valve or seal failing.
Could be. I’m not an expert on that stuff. The last time we had this issue, there was a leak in the pressure tank. The pressure tank was down in the well which is a system that no one uses anymore, so they moved the pressure tank to the basement several years ago and it has been working fine since then. We are not seeing any water bubble up by the well or anywhere in the yard, so hopefully it is a small leak and easily fixable. It still is going to cost a bunch. I keep telling my wife to direct her students to be a plumber or an electrician. There is wads of money in those professions.
I have an ongoing struggle with my irrigation pump. Always a work in progress as the shallow well that supplies it has to be nursed along in the dry heat of summer, lest I run it until the pump loses prime.
I hard wired the pump to a switch on the power pedestal, got rid of the extension cord. Two weeks ago went to flip it on, GFCI tripped. Figured it was probably wet after a recent rain, some current leakage. After a couple of dry sunny days still tripped. Pulled off the cover which requires me to disconnect the fittings…looked fine externally. Decided it must be the GFCI. Replaced the GFCI on Saturday, still tripped. Since it was ghastly hot and windy/dry, I reverse engineered the system to accept water from our house well so I could give all my baby trees a good long drink. Took off the cover again on Sunday, checked the wires…the neutral wire was loose.
Sounds like you are on a well, VP?
Yes, we have a well. Another issue we have with the pump going so much is that it is really stirring up sediment so our water filters need to be changed every 2 months or our pressure dips quite a bit because the filter is clogged.
I change our sediment filter every three month as a matter of course.
Ever think about installing a small cistern for the irrigation well? Install a little smaller pump that won’t over-pump the aquifer and have it run on a level control of the cistern.
You could use the current well pump in the cistern. One pump, a small cistern and a little piping and you’re set.
Depending on your elevations, you could just have the cistern above ground and gravity feed the trees as well if that’s all your using that water for.
That would work but would add to the complexity of the system.
It was the check valve. It was wedged open. It is now replaced and all is well with the world. However, since they were messing around in the well, they chlorinated it to kill all the bacteria. Our water will taste like city water for a little bit. Yuck.
Keep an eye on it. Just because they got it closed now, doesn’t mean the spring mechanism isn’t worn out. Unless there was a stick or something lodged in it, it might be a good idea to just replace it or have a spare handy.
They replaced it.
OK, that sounds smart.
“all is well with the world”
Perhaps we have become to kind a society.
If someone wants to go out in public and set innocent people on fire perhaps we should simply return in kind.
Tie him to a post in a public place, bath in gasoline and throw a match.
If only there would have been somebody with a handgun there. The dude was running around for a long time lighting people on fire. More than enough time for a good Samaritan to solve his mental issues with a little leadicillin. Maybe stop letting in every illegal and not kicking them the hell out when they overstay their welcome.
For people like this, only put the “lead” in. the legs to get him down. then apply gas and match.
If he happens to spill some of his cocktail on himself, a taser would work pretty well.
Are we able to make comments about pride month here?
Anyone else wish companies would just be companies and sports teams would just be sports teams?
Pride comes before a fall.
in this case pride has come BECAUSE of the fall
Seattle and Las Vegas surprises me. Interesting that somebody is tracking that.
Come on Vikings, get with the program.
In the liberal state of Minnesota, not pandering to special interest groups does not play well.
Every major metro in the US is a liberal zone. Take away the TC and Minnesota would also be red. They just need to rip the band aid off. Twins need to do the same as well.
Appears the AFC North is still into the “manly” thing.
Its all lip service, always has been and always will. Its going to go away eventually.
I just told a couple of coworkers that I was behind them all the way this month.
You do you, and your coworkers.
No Kink Shaming.
Doing your coworkers sounds like asking for a trip to HR.
Only if they object.
Or another co-workers sees it and objects.
Or another co-worker hears about it and objects.
Or other co-workers speculate that it happened and object.
etc, etc.
Or another co-worker is jealous.
To me June will always be Dairy Month…
You fall for the government psyop?
I’m proud that I don’t celebrate pride.
Well, it happened again…
I made a spreadsheet for someone and emailed it to them.
They sent it back, asked me to sort it by one of the columns and email it back to them.
I guess I have no choice but to spend the rest of the day completing this insurmountable task for them.
Stuff like this hurts me inside…
thoughts and prayer out to you my friend.
Thank you for understanding. I was in a dark place, and your support helps.
I would hope that this in not someone in management. If so, they should be put out to pasture because either they are so old they were not around when computers were invented or they are just stupid.
I would put a solid 8 hours into this project and just comment on here for the next 7 hours and 59 minutes.
7 hours 59 minutes and 45 seconds.
I was giving him 45 seconds to send the reply with the newly updated spreadsheet.
It’s going to take me at least four hours just watching YouTube instructionals…
When I get those requests, I always think, should I send them youtube videos on how to do it or should I just do it myself and look like a hero in someone’s eyes.
I was in our IT shop one day and this older lady, not much older than me but older, came in and said her email was messed up since she got her new computer. The It guy asked what was messed up and she said she used to have folders that certain emails were sent to. The folders were there, but the emails were coming to her inbox. The IT guy looked at me, and I had all I could do not to laugh in her face.
I tried showing people things multiple times over years. They just refuse to take the time to learn and apply.
Generally, I just do it now because I know it is hopeless to try anything else…and then I just periodically blow my stack.
Guessing that person is senior management.
When you get that task done, can you please give a tutorial on how to find the enneykey?
That sounds like something to dedicate myself to for a full week.
Job security, baby.
since we are basically in the doldrums of the NFL right now…
I like to be patient with different vikings news/videos i watch.
I saw an article came out on espn about JJ and the vikes, but i am waiting to read it until it gets slow today at work.
Have to parcel out the limited vikings stuff to help get me through the offseason
This is smart.
I can tell you are the type of guy who can sort a spreadsheet column by himself.
wellllll let’s not get TOO crazy…
this is actually why i have an IT guy….to do all the dirty work
About as well as he changes a battery. Yes he can sort the spreadsheet, but it may take longer than the average person.
based on those OTA stat lines for JJ….
