It’s another slow time for NFL news, as OTAs have ended and there will be no football news to report until training camps open in late July.
My life doesn’t ever seem to have a slow news cycle, so I have a story to share. On Friday, I brought home a couple bike ramps from the shop for my son & his friends to use. I thought it best to test them out before letting the kiddos on there to make sure they’re safe. Well, my first jump went okay, but I didn’t catch much air, so I thought I’d hit it again, this time with more speed. I definitely got more air, but when I landed, my body sailed over the front handlebars and I landed on my head. Not much blood, but it rung my bell pretty hard. After I gathered myself, my head was spinning and I felt significant pain in my neck/back, and my left arm was tingly and had very little strength.
I went inside to sit down and get over it (rubbed some dirt on it), but it never got better. A couple hours later, my wife coaxed me into going to the walk-in. They sent me to the ER where they gave me tests and such and wasted 9 hours of my life. They wanted me to stay overnight, but I declined and went home. So, I’m in a neck brace and still have limited use of my left hand, although it has improved slightly over the past couple days. I have to see a neurosurgeon this week to see if surgery is necessary. I’m encouraged that my condition has improved, so hopefully taking it easy and giving it some time will help. The taking it easy part isn’t easy for me, I was out coaching baseball last night, but I’ll do my best. Never a dull moment, drive fast & take chances.

From Athlon Sports, accusers applaud the NFL’s investigation of Justin Tucker. Really? This has been known by the powers-that-be for years, and they only investigate now that Tucker’s kicking abilities have diminished. Remember when Ray Rice was only going to receive a slap on the wrist until a video emerged? The NFL doesn’t care so much about justice, just avoiding any loss of revenue.
CBS Sports has an NFL head coach hot seat ranking out already. Sheesh, you’d think they’d at least wait until the teams played, or at least had their rosters finalized.
The Chiefs have asked for a deadline extension for a financing package from the state of Kansas, hinting that a move from Missouri to Kansas is a possibility, from the AP. I don’t really like that that Kansas City is in two different states, and that it’s named after the state where less of its population resides. I guess Missouri City doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Heard the families of the victims are furious.
Some are.
Some are relieved that they don’t have to relive it all for weeks during a trial.
I understand to plead guilty he has to explain the whole thing, what he did and why so they will get closure but not the justice/revenge that they want/need.
Saw where some pundit thinks we should sign Matthew Judon at Edge. I think we’re in good shape at that position, and Judon didn’t have very good stats last year. He’s 32, and while I’m not as concerned with age as some, Edge is one of those positions where “long in the tooth” isn’t a great asset. Just my opinion.

The Senate Parliamentarian gal changed several of the bill provisions, forcing at least 60 votes to pass them under the Byrd Act. This was one of those provisions, and 44 Dem’s voted against it. That means American taxpayers have to provide Medicaid to illegal Aliens.
Well it wouldn’t have passed without several republican votes. WHAT THE HELL.

is very biased. Further, when we took control of the Senate we could and should have appointed a new one. more to our liking.

No, the other way around. 56 Senators voted to stop illegals getting Medicaid (voted for the provision), and 44 Dem’s voted to keep it going (voted against the provision). The provision required 60 Senators to vote for it, due to the Byrd Act being applied to the Provision by the Senate Parliamentarian.

I’ve been looking at the 2026 cap numbers. The biggest “hit” to the cap will be Jefferson. In 2026 his cap hit will balloon from $15,167,600 this year, to $38,987,600. That with three years and a void year left on the contract. In 2027 his hit is $43,487,600 and in 2028 it will be $47,487,600.
I wonder what KAM is going to do with Jefferson after this year? Jefferson’s contract extension does not include a no-trade clause.

I would imagine a restructure / new deal is on the horizon. As long as his production and impact on the field is still felt and there’s no long term injury/slow down concerns yet, they will keep his pay high and work the cap around it. Again the Rookie QB contract is making this possible and if JJ is potentially as good as we want him to be, eventually he will need to be paid as well but, thats not for a few seasons from now so, no need to worry that far out imo.
If they trade or cut him after this year, they would take a cap hit of almost $50 mill. JJets isn’t going anywhere.
Jefferson has option bonuses and void years that will allow us to push chunks out to the end of his contract when it can be dealt with via his next contract. Same/similar for Darrisaw and other players on our roster.

They have 59 people under contract, which means 7 contracts will drop off after roster cuts this year. The low estimate of gained cap space is $7 million. It will probably more gained cap space than that.
I assume for the argument, $10 million gained by roster cuts in 2025, leaving the Vikings over by $50 million.
In 2025, the Vikings still have $23 million in cap space. That could be rolled over to 2026.
Let’s say $10 million of that is rolled over to 2026.
Now it’s down to $40 million.
What will the actual cap be in 2026? Nobody knows yet.
Could also gain cap space there.
Bottom line,
I doubt they do anything to Jefferson’s contract, but there should be no problem getting under the cap regardless.

I think the 2026 cap situation where we will enter the year $60M in the hole (dead last in the league) probably had something to do with it. KAM is going to have to reshape the roster pretty significantly.

In his 18 seasons with the Steelers, Tomlin has never had a losing year. Only three times has he finished with just 8 wins, which was a .500 season. He has finished with double digit wins in 11 seasons. He has finished with 9 wins in 4 seasons. Has been to two Super Bowls, and he’s won one of them.

reminds me of when i had one of those little plastic bball hoops that you put on your closet door as a kid. I was shooting hoops in my room one night before bed (was probably 8) and my dad was in the doorway and asked for the pass to shoot, so i passed and he took a full jumpshot jump and crunched his head/neck on the doorframe. he dropped fast and hard and i thought it was funny at the time. he crawled to his room and i didn’t see him the rest of the night.
i’m sure he got pretty hurt but he never let on.
The Browns QB situation is very messy. They have DeShaun Watson who is recovering from an Achilles injury sitting there, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and of course Shedeur Sanders.
Watson is a $36M cap hit this year, and folks think he could be ready to play by October. Flacco is a $3M hit, and Pickett is another $2.6M. The three together account for $41.6M against the cap. That’s still only about 15% of the total cap this year, so decent I guess.
That said, having 5 QB’s on the roster is a lot to deal with. Ultimately who do the Browns want to take the reins on this team and lead the offense?
5 QBs heading into training camp does not seem excessive, especially since one is out long term.
The drama comes from so many big names and the uncertainty going forward. Watson sees a bust given what they are paying him, Flacco is a short-term fix at best plus old, Primes Son seems to be a drama queen but his QB chops at the NFL level is a huge question mark. Pickett seems a decent #2 option and Gabriel is a few years from being ready.
More questions than answers there.

When we were kids we used to ride down the ditch in front of our house and jump our bikes onto the gravel road, skinned knees were the worst injuries we ever got. Good old “one speed” bikes with high handlebars and banana seats.

He fell and broke is arm. Mom made is take down the ramp as if it was our fault.

He was very attentive, and he surprised me with his knowledge of the countries. He was serious, asked excellent questions, and made sure we all knew what he expected of us. I left impressed.
