Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

Man, a billion thanks to Bowbunch, Surly, and whoever else has been helping keep things afloat here. Life’s been chaotic, but smoother waters lie ahead. I don’t get to see the neurosurgeon to get answers on my neck injury until Monday, as he’s on vacation until then, and the other surgeon “doesn’t do necks”. So, until then, I’m running around in a neck brace, which is loads of fun with a beard in this heat. I really wanted to grow the beard to a crazy length, but I’ve been seriously considering lopping it off these past few days. The good news is that some of the strength has come back in my left hand, and the tingling in my left arm, hand and fingers has stopped. There also isn’t much pain anymore, so all of that is encouraging, and I’m hoping that surgery isn’t recommended.

We’re still planning to go hog wild with fireworks for the 4th, kiddo and I made one run to the fireworks store already, and we’ll get back one more time to finish off this year’s collection. I think we’re heading out to my brother’s farm again to light them off. Any other pyromaniacs in the crowd?

Aaron Jones made the NFL’s top 100 of 2025, per Vikings.com. He barely made it, coming in at number 98, but he made it.

In case you really like to worry in advance, the Sporting News has a full list of Vikings 2026 free agents and pending contract years. This list will look much different by next offseason.

Fox Sports has a list of the 10 best quarterbacks to have never won a Super Bowl. I wonder if Christian Ponder is on there.

Remember when House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said of the Affordable Care Act, in 2010: “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.”

Then Hakeem Jeffries demands the BBB be read for 16 hours out loud on the floor? Oh yeah, then he talks about it for over 8 hours, trying to delay its passage.

The Dems are such obvious hypocrites its ridiculous.

Kind of a thought provoking comment…

Addison could possibly get a three-game suspension stemming from his 2024 DUI arrest in Los Angeles. A jury trial is scheduled to begin July 15. Addison has pleaded not guilty to the drunk-driving charge, and the result of the trial will undoubtedly be followed by a decision from the NFL.

Obviously Jefferson is our biggest threat, and with a healthy T.J. Hockenson at tight end, and Rondale Moore in the slot, that should give McCarthy three strong targets. But is that enough? Teams can double Jefferson and Moore, especially if they play two deep safeties.

Do we need Jalen Nailor to take another step, and fill in for Addison? We also still have the rookie Tai Felton (third-round pick) who might could make an impact.

Does losing Addison for three games, make that big of a difference?

He could help but his receptions can be spread around.
Nailor and Felton probably split his receptions and we are fine.

It is a lifetime in politics for sure, but the “wins” for the Republicans are stacked about a hundred feet high and the losses for the Dem’s are the same going the other way. They are on the losing side of every political position in the country. Every single one. They now have a communist, anti semitic, lunatic running for the Mayor of New York. Basically 90 percent of the country hates this. The Dem’s are in a hole, and they just ordered a steam shovel.

That’s true – right now.
Remember after the first Gulf War Bush had like a 90% approval rating and then lost just 18 months later. and bush didn’t have the entire press corp against him. Further, Trump will not be running next time and he is a HUGE political force.

JR… Trump is truly a generational leader. A historic leader. We are lucky he decided to come out of the business world and fix the country. The courage, the grit, the perseverance, the determination, the fight, the will… we may never see that again.

But, we also have a ton of talent in the wings. Proven leaders who have fight and determination, along with a deep belief in America’s core tenets.

Watergate was basically Nixon listening to the DNC, and destroying the tapes.
This was the media’s outrage of government abusing it’s power on political opponents.

We’ve had a million times worse done by dems actually trying to jail a political opponent.

I think Cousins was trying to reason with folks in a language they understand. If he said it was unpatriotic, or he disagreed with their cause, that would have gone nowhere. Trying to address the situation by saying “this is a bad look” for the league, and will drive fans (and revenues) away was probably the most diplomatic way to communicate.

Interestingly enough, the article says Cousins was the only white player in attendance. How is that for leadership? No other white player was there. Only Cousins.

Cousins was right and this is a bullshit way of presenting it so as to make him look bad. If it’s bad for the game, and it was, it was bad in a lot of ways to include revenues.

Also, LOVE this accurate quote from that article..

Coincidentally, Cousins has been the poster boy for this approach, as he is arguably one of the most overpaid athletes in the history of professional sports.

Top 5 ALL time NFL earners through 2025:

Stafford: $408,314,912
Rodgers: $394,308,010
Brady: $332,962,392
Cousins: $321,692,254
Wilson: $315,862,520

Kirko will likely surpass Brady in 2026.

U.S. job growth continued at a steady pace in June, surprising economists who had “predicted a slowdown” in hiring amid uncertainty over trade and fiscal policy.

The U.S. added 147,000 jobs in June, the Labor Department reported Thursday, above the gain of 110,000 jobs economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had expected.

The unemployment rate, which is based on a separate survey of U.S. households, fell to 4.1% from 4.2%.

People keep predicting less than stellar results for the Trump economy. They are consistently wrong.

Trump was asked about why the economists predictions on tariffs have ended up not being accurate, and he said “they need to go back to business school”. That is actually a really good take. Economists are academics who have never actually been in business.

Saw this in an article, and I have to agree:

Darrisaw being ready for Week 1 this season after tearing his ACL and MCL a week before Halloween last October has always been a less-than-sure-fire proposition. With that in mind, the expectation should be free agent signing Justin Skule starting at left tackle for at least a couple of games before the Vikings have their full starting offensive line in place.

De Smith, the former NFLPA boss, thinks Rodgers is a Douche.

“The god of Cheesehead Nation was isolated and dismissive,” Smith writes, regarding Rodgers’s demeanor during a player meeting. “He sat in the back row of the meeting room, issuing loud sighs before standing for a dramatic exit. An incredible quarterback, to be sure, but an even more impressive antagonist.”
