Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Hey, a trillion thanks to Surly, Bowbunch, and whoever else has been keeping this place going while I’ve been absent, I owe you guys big-time. I got some good news on Friday. I talked with another neck surgeon to get a second opinion (the Bismarck surgeon wanted to do surgery), and this doctor said that surgery would not be a good idea. He said that I’m far too active and healthy, and any surgery would severely affect my ability to live life. It may be necessary some day, but not anytime soon. He also said I can start running again, but I should take it slow and easy. I should be ready for the Bismarck marathon in September, kiddo and I are putting together a relay team.
During training camp, the most important news is the news you don’t hear. There have been no reports of major injuries from the Vikings, and that’s the best thing you can hear……or not hear. Justin Jefferson is dealing with a hamstring issue, let’s just hope it isn’t one of those minor injuries that linger and linger until it becomes a major injury. I doubt it, but I’m a Vikings fan so I expect the worst. Metellus is also a bit banged up, but the injury seems minor and will hopefully vanish soon. We’re still planning to hit training camp for a day or two, we’re going to one of the Vikings-Patriots joint practices.
Vikings News
The Vikings held their first practice in full pads, story from Yahoo Sports.
Kevin O’Connell sat down with reporters and discussed J.J. McCarthy, improvements at the line of scrimmage, and more, from YouTube.
The Sporting News reports that the Vikings top CB trio is looking solid already in training camp.
NFL News
There was a fatal shooting in New York with four dead, according to USA Today. The shooting occured at the building where the NFL headquarters is located. One of the victims was a police officer.
Cowboys LT Tyler Guyton is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a bone fracture, per NFL.com.
Pete Prisco put out a list of his top 100 NFL players, from CBS Sports. He only has two Vikings on the list, Justin Jefferson at #5, and Christian Darrisaw at #59.

- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

With this latest shooting episode in NYC the liberals are back to calling for more restrictive gun laws. They haven’t figured out that only law abiding citizens obey the law, and criminals or deranged people do not. Laws do not stop violent crimes. They just give society the ability to punish people after the fact. In the end, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. The left simply cannot understand this simple truth.
Every time, just like clockwork.
If the shooter is a white straight male, Dems always focus on toxic masculinity, white supremacy, nazi, etc. If the shooter is a minority, trans, etc., they always talk about gun control. Every time.
They have their playbook and the fact are otherwise irrelevant.
Bust…
Likey
Talented lass…
Michigan Democrats have introduced a state bill that would open up Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers who wear a face covering while on duty to prosecution, just years after Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order that would fine citizens $500 for refusing to wear a mask in public during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yikes! What about the Feds who stage the white supremacy stuff (proud boys or whatever)? I noticed that doesn’t happen anymore under this administration… weird.
White supremacy is somehow associated as part of the “far right” on the political spectrum. Now this political model dates back to the French Revolution and places ideologies that prioritize social, political, and economic equality on the left side of the spectrum and ideologies that prioritize various traditionalist or hierarchical values on the right side of the spectrum. White supremacists have no place on either side of this political model, but we are force fed the untruth that they somehow belong on the right. That is a load of crap.
Thought the white supremacy crowd in our country were the Democrats in the good old South. Civil War and Jim Crow laws and all that.
Great point.
Ice = Federal Workers. Supremacy Clause > State Law.
Yes, the Governor’s Executive Order violates Federal law, so she is out of her water here. Sanctuary cities violate Federal immigration laws as well. Yet the left keeps telling everyone that it’s the Trump administration that is violating the law. Law enforcement is not violating the law.
How can a state tell a federal agent how to dress and act.
I am disappointed however. After driving about 5 hours northeast of International Falls, I still haven’t seen a moose.
You aren’t looking hard enough. You need to concentrate on scanning the woods roadside, no need to be watching the road itself.
The roads up this far are interesting to be sure. They are actually repaving a stretch of the road we are on so not bad.
I don’t think Moose hang out near roads.
They are more reclusive in my memory of moose encounters.
I have found the end of the world. It’s in Canada.
The Great Sulphur Pyramids! One of the 8 wonders of the world in Alberta.
Surprisingly enough, the road we are on keeps on going north.
They are pretty impressive.
New York Times op-ed states we’re in the “Juan Crow” era. In their opinion, enforcing immigration law is now “Juan Crow”.
Clever play on words but really demeaning to law enforcement and the 80% or so of Americans who want illegal immigrants out of the country.
Next up……demanding reparations to Mexico.
Time to demand reparations FROM Mexico.
I am just so over this BS…my sister last week brought up these poor innocent illegals getting swept up in ICE raids of criminals and being deported or disappeared back to El Salvador or wherever they came from. To her credit she quit talking when I explained that if I had been, say, working at the hospital back in the day under a fake work visa and got caught during a ICE sweep I too would have been deported…back to Canada. The horror of being made to return to your homeland.
The topic of illegal aliens deserving asylum in the US is not a good one to bring up with me, cuz I got facts on top of facts on top of memory of my whole long application process…
You definitely have a great, personal understanding of this MT. I blame the left’s anti Trump propaganda campaign telling Americans that law enforcement (ICE) are the Gestapo to Trump’s Hitler. The Dem’s will do anything to destroy their political opponents, and wrecking law and order in this country is fine, as long as they win elections.
More bad news…
On Tuesday, the Cleveland Browns saw starting cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. get carted off the field with a lower leg injury.
The injury happened during a 7-on-7 drill, and it was non-contact. Apparently, Emerson Jr. knew right away that what he had suffered may be bad.
Any doctors with thoughts on this (that haven’t been paid for by big pharma)?
Game, set, match. Man is on his game.
Chris Cuomo is a tool.
It is a family trait.
LOL
Awesome!
Christian Walkins, DL, to the Vikings?
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-buzz-christian-wilkins-las-vegas-raiders
Dudes fricken weird I dont want him on the roster.
Yep.
He was kissing other players.
Yuk.
He’d fit right in in Minnesota.
I prefer to slap my teammates on the ass and give a little lingering squeeze. That’s not weird, is it?
If you’d stop with the intense eye contact it would be a little less weird.
Well he was sticking fingers in butt holes and grabbing crotches in piles during games so…guess depends what your definition of weird is in Canada and MT..
That’s weird in MT, can’t speak for Canada though.
You do you.
I really don’t want to know what search term you entered for that .gif…type “sausage fest” in a gif search bar and I bet you would get some unpleasant hits.
I used “gay”.
You weird.
Lol….. right on cue as always….
Unless our medical staff have a concrete plan to heal him up yet this season…
Flores and he have a good history from Miami.
He should be cheap since he is injured and has issues with the Raiders.
Any indication of how long before he can play again?
Nope, the reason LV voided his contract, he is rehabbing on his own.
So I was looking to make enchiladas last night. I was looking for my normal chicken in the freezer when I remembered my Grandmother (Nana) telling me that enchiladas were originally for using up leftovers. So I saw a package of Costco Pork Sausages and thought ‘why not’.
Was worried that The Teacher would balk and the ‘non-traditional’ pairing but she was game and they turned out pretty good. Different of course but not a bad change of pace.
Bold and Stupid for the win. #grin
Hmmm… from the picture I don’t know who this is, but this is living proof our educators continue to fail their students.
Angel Reese
She the one that is so jealous of Caitlin Clark?
Yeah. The one that shoots like 10% but thinks she’s the true star of the WNBA.
She dominates in
reboundsmebounds, though.Exactly.
She dominates in those and acting Ghetto.
In this case it’s less about the educators and more about a system that allows athletes to skate through college without doing anything meaningful academically.
^^^ bingo! ^^^
I am honestly dumbstruck sometimes how parents in our small town emphasize their children’s involvement in sports while underemphasizing their education. Probably a generational and cultural thing…while a lot of guys in my high school had dreams of being the next Mark Messier their parents always reminded them the odds were not in their favor.
PS do you have any inside connections with Craig’s Meats?
I’ve known Craig for 30 years. Played sports with 3 of his sons.
Darn, I would have tracked you down on Saturday to pull strings…we bought a market steer at the 4H/FFA show and my stepson recommended either Jordan or Savage for butchers…Jordan was only taking hogs and Savage was by appointment only (I’m guessing he’s pretty busy) so we opted for the third choice – Powder River in Terry.
Glendive apparently hasn’t figured out what Sidney figured out years ago: The animal comes with an appointment already scheduled.
This was our first year purchasing a steer…if all goes well we will do it again next year and probably a hog as well. In that case, I’ll call him well in advance next year.
Good plan. He’s usually booked 6-9 months out, but if he knows ahead of time he can probably find a spot.
Our local community college is worse. Over 90% of the student body is athletes, they offer very little for meaningful degrees, and is a huge tax drain on the county. All so 18-20 year olds can continue pretending that sports is their future.
Reminds me that long long ago I needed a human anatomy class as a pre req for a couple of DO schools I applied to (I had a mammalian anatomy class which fulfilled the MD school req)…went up and spoke with the instructor at DCC…he let me take the course “virtually” by just giving me the syllabus and reading assignments, and then taking the tests during the semester. That way I didn’t have to take time off for evening classes. He warned me that the classroom experience was pretty important and that getting an A in the class was difficult. Of course a lot of student athletes were in the class and many of them were interested in things like PT or sports medicine.
The final exam was literally just photocopies of anatomic pictures requiring you to label the structures, straight out of the textbook.
He grades my exam and says…you got 100%…the class average is just above 60%.
Yeah you probably don’t want someone rehabbing your shoulder that could only identify 60% of structures in an anatomic diagram straight out of the textbook.
College? How about the 3rd grade? Come on man…
Maybe she was home schooled?
Minnefornia media trying to keep up with the national pundits.
Well, they”re new mayoral candidate is now drawing national attention. Hear is is also leading.
Does any rational person think he should not be deported?
Maybe he’ll do like they did in Maryland and start making illegals cops.
Not without a decade or more of ‘due process’.
So let me summarize. A comet is approaching our sun. It poses no threat to earth and will not be visible to the naked eye. I am wondering what the hype is about
Although your reply is in the wrong thread, it is hilarious to me. 130,000 mph is like 0.0001 c. Seems to me an alien race intent on destroying an inner planet would choose a somewhat higher speed, like 0.1 c, in which case we would barely detect the object before it hit the Earth, and a 7 mile wide object with, say, the mass of lead would just punch straight through the planet and leave a big ol’ ball of asteroids behind.
It’s a manned ship and they need to slow down and stop when they get close. Some people say they are actually just our allies though and on their way to Earth to help defeat the “grays” or something like that.
Sorta like Rendezvous with Rama, they are scoping things out with a huge hollowed out cylinder with spin for their internal habitat.
The Sydney Sweeney ad is apparently Nazi propaganda.
What’s ugly about this?
And what’s wrong about whiteness?
Jeans/Genes.
The Race Baiters are equating it to a Blond, Blue Eyed, woman to a Nazi.
Pretty ridicules.
I guess I don’t see “race” in everything.
If I did, I might ask since blacks are about 12% of population, why are one third of actors in commercials black.
Oh, just sick of this crap.
‘I don’t see “race” in everything’
Shhhh or they will send you to reeducation camp.
Been there, didn’t work.
😂😂😂you guys are funny!
Well, thank you.
Funny Looking maybe.
Saying she has good genes is obviously just because she’s white and therefore it is a racist ad. And why does 12% of the population make up something like over 60% of violent crime?
Oh you can’t even NOTE that either because they are disadvantaged growing up and therefore it is society’s problem that they are the way they are.
Complete BS!
Bingo. Obviously a racist message to support Nazi like eugenics.
Lol because she’s a hot in shape white woman, that men of all color would be idiost to not want to sleep with? Sorry, overweight black chicks dont put lead in my pencil there MSNBC.
Some how thought you were a ‘husky’ guy.
Yes, all 150lbs of me
Hay, worked with a guy 150 and his wife was like 200. More to love and he was never cold when the weather got bad.
*shudders* nope, not for me. Im repulsed by obesity. Not saying the only women I find attractive are skinny or dont have some meat on their bones but you cant be unhealthy. Glad your co worker was happy and that that worked for him.
Actually I’m not into big women either, but some guys have a thing about them.
Built for comfort, built for speed, I’ll take speed.
Those same guys drive mini vans.
“The more the cushion”…….
Hope those guys have really good healthcare……they’re going to need it when snoogums hits 50 or so years of age. Obesity is closely linked to over 200 additional health problems.
Black is beautiful.
I am a Nazi.
Lizzo is just pure fire.
Any ad with Sydney Sweeney is a good ad!
You are obvious a white supremacist.
For an evening with Sydney, i will be anything she wants me to be
This has Levi’s 501 Illuminati written all over it……
They’re going to arrive about half time of the SB when the Vikings are up by 30 and the game will get canceled.
Its an object we haven’t tracked before, space is bigger then our lizard brains can comprehend and its swinging by on an orbit from somewhere else caused by something we dont know and probably never will. Big ol nothing burger.
If it takes Aliens coming to make sure we dont nuke ourselves out of existence over stupid greed and petty bull shit, id be okay with that.
Feel like kicking off No Work Tuesday – This sounds all to familiar

It’s because he is throwing to the second string WRs. Not his fault.
Saw where Calib Williams completed 4 out of 10 the other day. Must be the good coaching he is now getting.
it will take them awhile to adjust to the new offense, if they ever do.
Glad that we get them early since it is on MNF. 2nd time we play them they are at the Bank so the schedule vs the Bores works out for us.
Don’t worry to much about the Bears.
‘Any Given Sunday’.
Whose their QB coach? Ben Johnson can draw up plays sure but can he coach players to execute them? Im glad we have KOC
I have no idea how Johnson runs things. But believe when KOC got here, herwas HC, QB coach and OC to a large degree although there were others involved with the official titles.
Saw on the news this morning that “heat indexes” for the NE including NYC were going to be ungodly today. Not sure how heat indexes are calculated but for this flatlander in flyover country it would be defined as oppressive 90+ degree temps and 90%+ humidity, aka Florida in July. Hope all those millions of people living in dense urban surroundings stay cool.
My Daughter in South Carolina send me there weather report the other day showing about 110 degree heat index. But she moved from Houston and so she has seen worse.
Welcome to July and August in Florida. Kind of miserable down here right now.
110-120 was pretty normal in the high desert in SoCal. Perfect time for your AC to go out, I know from personal experience.
At least it was a dry heat. Way more gooder.
I sometimes wonder, how in the hell did people live in Florida before air conditioning.
Those big porches build to catch the breeze, shade, and mint juleps.
Not to mention people were much ‘hardier’ back in the day before electricity made live easy.
Oh we have breezes. Trouble is it feels like furnace air.
@well you always had the house slaves to run the punkah@
Every little bit helps.
Now you would have to hire illegal aliens for slave wages.
You could hire them for minimum wage and ask the guests to tip them to supplement their meager income.
‘Minimum wage’? $20 an hour in some places and looking at making it $30 in Commifornia and NYC.
I would rather sweat.
I bet the suggested tip on those card scanners in the Cali restaurants are still set at 20-30%. Even in takeout.
Yup.
I have learned to select ‘No Tip’ without guilt at takeout places and stores.
During the pandemic I overtipped because I appreciated that times were tough and I wanted the businesses to still be there when the lockdown was over.
I don’t remember where I saw it is happening but they are instituting a 4% tax on all prepared food.
Why, that’s what the ‘little woman’ is for.
I was thinking how tough our forefathers were (think “Little House on the Prairie”). No refrigeration. No A/C. Living in cabins in the middle of nowhere besieged by flies and mosquitoes. Lady of the house has a 36 weeker on board, six kids around the ankles, doing the laundry, chopping wood, meal prep with the cabin filled with woodsmoke, dad is out plowing with the oxen, gets a cut on his forearm game over, etc.
Now you can have your groceries delivered because the stress of actually going to the grocery store is just too much.
They were ‘tough.’ But that was their world, and there wasn’t any government to come bail them out.
No ‘government to come bail them out’.
How can anyone survive such a situation?!?!
New concept. Now I’m old (at least around here) but my Grandparents took care of themselves, expected nothing from anyone, and certainly not the government.
‘the government’ is something I have to pay (taxes) to leave me alone.
Yeah, we can get 105 degree temps but unusual to have much humidity. It has been raining pretty regularly lately so by my standards it is quite humid but nothing like what I have experienced in S Texas or Florida.
South/East Texas, Alabama, Souther Kentucky, have all ‘learned’ me to stay away from humidity whenever possible.
OK, this made me laugh…
Alright, we have a potential pro-bowler at backup!
Yep… top shelf.
But I was just reading how Howell is struggling in camp.
“The best way to sum up Howell’s performance is a beat too slow”
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-problem-behind-jj-mccarthy
Howell is like Meinecke… he is a bit of a baller, with some fire in his belly. Unfortunately he just doesn’t quite have enough ability to be really exceptional as an NFL QB.
‘Howell is like Meinecke‘
OK, misspelled. Taylor Heinicke. Laughing.
No wonder the name didn’t show up on Google.
Yeah, hell getting old…
Just shows most all the guys at this level can throw the ball.
I could post lots of throws being made in camp by every team, that folks are highlighting on their twitter accounts. You are correct. Every NFL QB (even 3rd and 4th string guys) can throw a football.
LOL he was sacked twice before throwing the ball.
That Red Jersey kept him alive on that play.
Yes Freezey… thus the humor here. I think it was a sarcastic post, but it made me laugh.
Good news that you can skip surgery for now.
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
Good morning FloridaSKOL. Another day closer to the start of the season. I think the Vikings will definitely contend for the Division this year, and make the playoffs. We look good on both sides of the ball. Can’t wait till we play the Bears on MNF, September 8th.
Hey NVF. Yep, I am ready for another season. I am finally over the anger caused by the end of our last season. Hope is high and I am ready to go again!
SKOL!
Last season was a great ride till the last few games. There were a lot more ups than downs IMO. 14 wins made us happy almost every week. I’ll take that every day.
Hoping we get to experience something like that again, and some playoff success.
Early reports of the Manhattan shooter are he had grievances against the NFL as he believed he suffered from CTE. NFL employee seriously wounded in the attack.
We live in a dangerous world. Regardless of motive, there are people who will maim and kill other people. Our elected officials seem way too interested in defending the rights of the perpetrators, above the rights of the innocent victims.
I would suggest to the Government, that prior military, and police be allowed to open carry to help deter crime. If someone is properly trained, and experienced, and is found to be mentally stable, these individuals could augment security.
If you are talking about members of the general public that have retired from military service or law enforcement, my observation is that open carry (which is permitted in Montana) has the effect of attracting undue attention, calls to local PD, etc…
I personally feel that every individual that has the slightest amount of interest in concealed carry take a NRA certified course and consider doing so, at least some of the time.
Idaho is open carry. I have seen people walk into Walmart to buy ammo strapped. You get used to it.
It also helps that Idaho has a law that says anyone who uses their personal weapon to defend themselves or someone else the believe to be in danger is protected by law.
This is a very sane stance in today’s world. As we’ve seen, people with some sort of axe to grind are attacking innocent people. That Walmart stabbing incident was controlled by law abiding citizens, who stood up to the perpetrator. One of those folks was armed, and that probably stopped the guy from trying to stab the folks corralling him in the parking lot. Ex Marine with a gun, doing what came naturally to him.
I would not carry in SoCal due to their gun laws.
If you had to use it you would have to prove that you ‘needed to and had no other choice’.
Plus if you paperwork was missing a punctuation mark you were going down, even as a ‘Peace Officer’.
Yeah. California has it all wrong, and protects criminals at the expense of law abiding citizens and law enforcement. They are literally insane.
“Undue attention”? That’s the point. Open carry shows potential evil doers they are up against more than defenseless, and scared, people.
There are pros and cons, but you can imagine scenarios where someone might try to snatch your pistol out of the holster, and believe me I have seen setups where the pistol or revolver is about ready to fall out of its own accord. I also have witnessed those scenarios where a bunch of kids are playing in the playground while their parents are watching and Joe Q Public wanders through the park carrying a six shooter on his hip, parents start getting concerned, phone call made, LE stops Mr. Public and asks a few questions, etc…
Concealed, no one is going to gain control of the weapon, you’re not going to be pestered by LE or store security, and if a guy goes full on Columbine you have the opportunity to give him a Mozambique drill.
More Pros than Cons IMHO.
The Panicans can always find something to fret over.
I agree with MT on this. I think the chances of one being stolen or used in a scuffle when it’s already out/there (convenience of use in situations that don’t require a firearm), along with being desensitized to seeing weapons slowing down reaction time for a situation where someone might be an active shooter or trying to gain access to a place where they could be, would be a couple other points to think about.
I’m happy concealed carrying. I have never taken a course but I do have what some might call extensive training in the handling and operation of a firearm. I should get my CCP though so I can carry outside of Montana legally.
I think it’s handy to have, God forbid you ever have to put someone down but at least you would have that endorsement to fall back on. Plus the course(s) taught me a lot about de-escalation and the “right” things to say to LE should you ever have to use it.
I have a pretty good understanding of de-escalation skills and what to say to law enforcement.
Not sure about this – might do more harm than good. I’m really not sure.
As you know there’s a fair amount of former military that really aren’t that squared away.
I get this perspective for sure. But I also know many former military who would fit the bill perfectly. Combat troops forced to conduct themselves under the strictest rules of engagement for political reasons. They know what restraint is. They’re disciplined, and capable.
But then there’s all the Remf’s like me, and then there’s some shall we say little bit crazy ones.
Remf’s can be trained up. I was at the prison.
Crazy ones would be caught in the background checks.
Remf’s would not volunteer for this. Not capable, or qualified. You have never had to face real violence up close and personal. I’m talking about people with real experience, willing to help deter crime.
well I was trained to fly helicopters. And to be honest, I was more scarred of having to do an auto rotation because a tail rotor got shot off, than a 45 pistol dual.
My Dad was retired military, a gun enthusiast, and I grew up shooting a 45.
‘I was more scarred of having to do an auto rotation because a tail rotor got shot off,’
That is what I would want my Copter Pilot worried about over a shootout.
Worry about the possible shootout once you are shot down in enemy territory.
the wolf closest to the door is always the first priority.
Amen Brother.
Priorities, target selection.
How hard can it be? Dump the collective, use the cyclic to control direction and airspeed, and antitorque pedals (oops I guess those won’t work with the tail gone).
I’m assuming you read “Chickenhawk”? I loved the author’s description of how the instructor let him take each control individually one at a time, then let him have all three at which point the heli was all over the place, and the instructor said “It’s true what they say, you’re a natural”.
It is the scariest part of the training.
Well I have survived two helicopter crashes, so I know that is scary as hell.
Don’t really understand why someone with a “grievance” feels it is necessary to go out and kill four people.
Rational people can never understand the irrational minds of people compelled to kill others.
I read the NFLs offices were on the 5th floor and the shootings were on the 20th-30th floors where Blackrock offices were….
They say he took the wrong elevator.
The ones that go side to side?
Yeah and the same story said he was upset because he thought he had CTE from playing high school football, but somehow that is the NFL’s fault.
Oh, and CNN said he was a white male.
Did anybody else see the mugshot of this guy and wonder what made Diggs drive from Boston to NYC?
LOL
Great summary.
Nailed it. I wonder why only (liberal) idiots trust them?
Yep. NFL offices on floors 3-5. My understanding that they found a suicide note that made some reference to the NFL and CTE.
I don’t buy it. That makes no sense. Why would he blame the NFL for a supposed undiagnosed case of CTE when he never even played college football? Oh, and you mean to tell me that he just accidentally went up 33 floors instead of 5, didn’t stop and go back down and then just happened to end up in the neighborhood of Blackrock?
Draw whichever conclusion you would like, just what the report said.
Happy Tuesday,
Good to hear you won’t need surgery any time soon GF.

Brad, great news! I prefer avoiding surgery if possible. Now, about your bicycle skills…..
How are gougers supposed to gouge if folks like Brad are trying to avoid surgery???
