Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
We lost our first playoff game last night in kiddo’s football league. The kids played well and had a good time, and all of them are improving a ton from where they were at the start of the season. Kiddo is doing well, making some good plays at running back and he really likes playing safety and cornerback on defense. I LOVE coaching the defense, and I’ve been learning a lot myself. The head coach played and coached at the high school and college level, and he was a lineman. I give him a hand working with the O & D line kids in practice, and I’ve been learning a ton from him. My little a** obviously never played on the line, so a lot of the techniques & such are new for me.
I got a bunch of picks incorrect in our pick ’em league this week. I was correct on 4 games, and incorrect on 9 (so far, Chiefs game isn’t over yet as of this writing, so I MIGHT go 4 and 10). I WAS sitting in 2nd place in the league, I’m guessing I’ll slide a bit after this week’s performance. Sheesh.
Vikings and NFL News
Carson Wentz talks about how he views the current QB situation and how he approaches it, from Newsweek. Wentz is a good dude.
From Vikings.com, Kevin O’Connell provides an update on the team, and the Vikings announced a pair of roster moves.
More details on the Mark Sanchez situation from MSN. Man, I had some really bad hangovers back in my drinking days, but nothing like this. Sanchez gets hammered, gets in an altercation, wakes up in the hospital with stab wounds, then to top it off, the police come to the room and charge him with a felony. What a weird situation, Sanchez got mad at some old dude for parking next to a loading dock? Give him a little booze & the dude thinks he’s a parking cop.

This is for Bow…
Logical.
Void where prohibited by law.
Odd to me… I didn’t see the altercation though.
Didn’t the RB lose the ball due to celebrating?
So the HC shouldn’t have anything to say to any Moron that did that?
Or do they think he went to far or that the Sideline was not the right place for it?
I don’t know, but apparently somebody thought he crossed a line, Personally I would have kicked the guy in the nuts.
‘somebody thought he crossed a line’
Well the RB didn’t cross the Goal Line with the ball that is for sure.
Clever boy
Did he hit him?
Think he did what Parcells, Lombardi, Shula and host of other great coaches would have done.
And not mention a Colt player did the same thing the week before. You think that wasn’t a teaching moment across the league.
The player should be the one fined!
He obviously didn’t provide the little snowflake a safe space.
That is why he was fined, duh.
So Darrisaw was on a count and came out of the game in the 4th Qtr?
He only had 41 snaps on Sunday.
Who came in for him? Rouse? He had 24 snaps. He is listed as a RT on the snap count list. Did he fill in for Skule who shifter over to LT??
That last drive is even more impressive knowing that CD was on the bench for it.
https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/minnesota-vikings/news/what-happened-christian-darrisaw-vikings-left-tackle-exits-week-5-game/86d13ba3453878e9e798620b
I think Darrisaw came out of the Pittsburgh game a little tired and sore. Took too many snaps. They decided to throttle him back a bit this game, plus he gets extra days for rest and recovery with the bye week. Still getting back into football shape. Take it slow, and know when to take a knee big fella.
He went from 38 snaps vs the Bungles to 76 vs the Stealers to 41 vs the Brownies.
I guess he was dialed back due to soreness for this game. Short term pain vs long term gain for the team.
I am just impressed that the OL got it done on that last drive without him.
Indeed. It was an awesome drive. Just perfect.
He has not practiced to start the week.
“DNP rest” has been the injury report for Wednesdays.
So this isn’t a real surprise imo.
Who?
Room for improvement…
Not sure what to make of all these stats. But do believe the offense will settle down and we’ll score our fair share of points.
But the defense, especially the run. defense, is a concern. A defense that can’t stop the run is usually a problem. Gives too much advantage to the offense as they then control down and distance.
Yes. I think we have missed a LOT of tackles though. Defender in a position to make a stop, but whiffs. So we need to hit hard, but wrap up.
Saw this for McCarthy.
First two regular season games of his career. I trust the coaching staff to develop JJ.
At least there is the possibility of improvement. He could still be a bust, but I expect improvement throughout the season, and into the future.
Give him 3 seasons, if the team is not seeing the improvement, draft again. And again. And again.
No more overpriced fully guaranteed vet salaries at that position please.
Ever.
So IF McCarthy ever gets to Cousins level, he’ll be a top tier QB. Let’s see if he ever achieves anything before crowning him though, OK? Just for fun, let’s compare Cousins first ever start to McCarthy’s, shall we? Cousins stepped up in 2012 as a rookie when RGIII went down with an injury for his first start. In an offense custom built by Kyle Shanahan for Griffin, and no reps with the first team offense till that week, Cousins completed over 70% of his passes for 329 yards, and 2 TD’s with a 104.4 passer rating. Oh yeah, the Redskins won 38-21. McCarthy? His first start in an offense he had a year to learn, and practiced all spring and summer with the first team offense? Well he only threw the ball 20 times, and completed 65% of his passes for get this… 143 yards. He tossed two TD’s and ran one in too. His passer rating was 98.5.
The next week McCarthy completely shit the bed against the Falcons. He completed 11 of 21 passes (52.3%) with 0 TD’s and 2 interceptions, and a 37.5 passer rating. For a team that wants to throw the ball, McCarthy only threw it 20 times in his first game, and 21 times in his second. He is clearly not a passing QB that beats defenses with his brain and his arm (yet). He’s just a guy running plays out there. BTW, for all the “he’s a winner” talk, McCarthy has never been a passing QB that carried the offense on his arm. Ever.
Maybe he’ll develop, but as KOC said openly… he’s 10,000 reps and 10.000 hours away.
Kirk still sucks
He sucks the life and hope out of the fanbase, wherever he plays.
He plays well wherever he plays.
ATL does not agree
He owns the franchise record for most yards in a game already. 509 yards and 4 TD’s. Greatest QB play in a game in franchise history.
1 good game for 100 mil guaranteed.
@Nice@
I am sure the fans are thrilled with that.
Thats too long imo.
If he can’t stay healthy this year, it’s time to look at other QB’s.
Let him compete for the job, but he’s played 2 games out of 22.
Not much time left to invest in him if you ask me.
Agreed.
Agree – 3 seasons is way too long. If they can’t tell after about a season whether they have their guy or not, something is wrong.
It’s kind of a tricky thing. Almost a “fool me once” situation. You’re looking for consistent growth. Can he walk to the line and say
“I’ve seen this look already, and I know right where to go with the ball” or does he not.
Nobody is perfect, but if you make the same mistake two or three times, coaches are going to start looking at you sideways.
Good work Carson…
Lets remember…..average pass time is as much a reflection of the scheme and play call as it is the qb. Way too little data to crown JJMac with anything rigjt now
Totally true, as I have posted here many times. KOC tends to want to run longer developing plays that require somewhat involved processing by the quarterback. If you’re throwing a five yard out, and it’s there, the ball is out in under 2 seconds. If you’re looking for the deep crosser, it’s 3 to 3 and a half seconds. So play calling and processing all play into that time to throw stat.
Yes, this is for sure a scheme stat first and foremost. The scheme this last game was way different.
Crazy to think that this guy could win or even get 48% of the vote.
The dem base thinks it’s fine to murder republicans and their families.
Left/Dim Logic.
Anything that might in any way help DJT must be fought against by any means possible.
So any lie is ok if it helps resist against MAGA.
Dems like this guy live in the world of identity politics. I don’t know if they really believe it, or that’s just all they got. Probably both.
As far as Jones, just 15 to 20 years ago if a politician said that, they would be dead politically. No party would accept that.
Oh they want republicans dead.
I’m just amazed how open they and their voters are about it.
It’s now become accepted.
I hope I’m wrong.
Yeah… don’t hold your breath.
Won’t happen because most conservatives are NFL fans.
They want to attract the Woke/Left in order to make more money.
Is there that much money from the Woke/Left?
I’d say the media is the biggest source of NFL revenue, so no doubt the media will give it to them.
Well Swiftys, who are Woke/Left to a large degree, are bringing in lots of cash to the NFL. Which is why the NFL was pushing the Chiefs so hard.
‘If it works with them lets see how much we can squeeze out of the rest of them.’

Welp, the plague put my brother in the hospital, so the fate of the farm rests on my shoulders. This is like a Disney movie where I am forced to save the day with a plucky group of misfits.
But mostly, I’m the misfit…
Off to battle the corn!
Hope your brother recovers quickly, and good luck with the harvest.
You guys, farmers, are ‘salt of the earth’.
You, and guys like you inspire me.
God Bless the small farmer (not the big AG companies).
You mean he is hospitalized with COVID infection? Hope he pulls through.
Where’s the locusts when you need them?
Watch for children Wren.
This could not make more sense.
Flacco to the Bengals.
Kirko costs too much.
They really think he’ll move the needle? Lol. Good luck, Bengals!
Can’t get any worse.
And he is cheap.
Better than what they have. Maybe not much better but still a bit.
At least he is staying in the same state.
He gets to play the pukers twice.
You do know the Falcons only have two QB’s on their roster right? Two.
They’re not trading Cousins.
I never said they would trade for Cousins.
He’s way too expensive for the cheap Bengal ownership imo.
But….
You do know that the Falcons have QB Easton Stick on the practice squad right?
You do know that any trade could involve a backup QB on the roster of the team trading for Cousins right?
So I knew Stick was on the roster, and that they waived him as part of the final roster cuts at the end of August. I was unaware he was resigned to the practice squad, so I am wrong that there are only two QB’s on the roster.
Certainly someone could include a backup in a trade offer, but it’s nonsensical. Trade a guy who could take you to a Super Bowl for a ham sandwich and a couple draft picks? I know Raheem Morris is a complete moron, and the GM is nuttier than a fruitcake, but seriously. There is no way the Falcons trade Cousins.
Yeah. Because he has done it so many times over his career….
TBF, he did say ‘could.’
I could shit out a solid Gold bar when I get home after work, we all know its never going to happen though.
Cousins is a top tier QB, that Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay have both said can lead a team to a Super Bowl victory. Both of those guys actually coached Cousins, and they know what he has. A lightning fast brain, and one of the most accurate arms in the league. Plus, he hangs in the pocket and delivers strikes even while getting hit.
We get you have a completely irrational hate for Cousins. We don’t care.
Do you have this response saved to copy and paste at a moments notice? Oh its very rational lol. Watching the Vikings from 2018-2023 proves it to be VERY rational.
Only the best QB production across 6 seasons in Vikings history.
‘There are none so blind as he who Will Not See.’
Indeed
I saw a mid QB take a mid roster to mid success. Tell me, what did you see? Because if you say anything more you’re lying to me and yourself.
And one play off win. Production = stat padding. Try again.
Think they’d trade him if the price is right.
Also think your and DE’s back and forth centers on the definition of ‘backup QB.’ There are probably about 600 or so guys that could come in and take a snap but not much else. But there are probably only a small handful that could fill in and win a few games at the NFL level should the starter go down.
Falcons will trade Cousins for the right price.
But no team will pony up and pay up, so it’s unlikely at this point.
They appear to want full contract price and no one is going to pay that.
Price might drop around Nov 4th.
But the Falcons appear content with holding on to him as an insurance policy at QB.
Slow day today….but it is KirkTuesday!
Bengals’ QB struggles have fans calling for Kirk Cousins trade
People are flat stupid sometimes NoDak. The Falcons only have 2 QB’s on their roster. Yeah, they will trade Cousins away, and leave themselves with just one.
Not that hard to pick up a backup.
The 7-11 parking lots are full of qualified NFL QBs.
That is where we found Wentz.
LOL. Gotta tread carefully in North Dakota infested waters.
I bet they would do it to ditch his contract. Could pick up a backup for cheap, even though they wouldn’t be the caliber of Cousins by any means.
Let’s be rational here. The Falcons have a guy who can come in and operate the offense at a very high level. Maybe better than the current starter. If you were the Falcons, would you trade him? With no other QB on the roster? Just bring a guy in?
Well if it’s clear they aren’t going to use him, then yeah, I guess if you think Penix is the future, then get rid of him. But I might be starting him yet if I’m the Falcons… I’m just saying with their current mindset, it would make sense.
Just read Bengals traded for Flacco from the Browns.
Can’t say I’d be excited were I a Bengals fan. Sounds like a minor exchange of draft picks so no biggie I guess.
As a Vikings fan, any chance he could start and beat the FTP this weekend?
Would guess he won’t even play this weekend.
Interesting story up top in the media section.
There often is.
I don’t personally put any credence in any pundit power rankings, but here is one.
I have come to the conclusion that ‘expert opinion’ has morphed into ‘clickbait’.
So I seldom, if ever, look at them or respond to them any more.
The top 10 have some use. The rest are just selling tickets.

About time for the NHL season to start, I need more entertainm… err, sports. Go Bruins!
That dude in the blue Jays shirt, is he a professional dancer?
The best player in the NHL just took a team friendly two year extension for AAV $12.5 million, compared to Kaprizov with the Wild getting $17 million AAV for 8 years.
Three years of McDavid at bargain pricing, gotta build the team and win it all!
Sounds like he and the wife like Edmonton (they have a place overlooking the river valley a stone’s throw from my junior high school), and she has a great design business downtown.
If the Oilers don’t win a Cup in the next three years I will be disappointed. The great Draisaitl already signed for 8 years at $14M AAV.
I seriously wonder if Kaprizov will be worth that contract the Wild gave him, he is an excellent player, but not THAT good IMHO.
The Oilers are in a good spot I think, serious contenders for the cup, again. Excited what Marko Sturm can do with the Bruins, him and Draisaitl can hang out with a nice Weißbier after Oilers vs Bruin’s games.
Not a big hockey fan since the North Stars left. What I hear about this, is that Kaprizov is a very good player that just signed the NHL equivalent of the Kirko contract. Less money left to build a team, and you are now anchored for 8 seasons.
Ew.
Doubt it works out, since Minnesota Sports and all.
Pretty impressive record here…
Love that guy…
Personally as a ‘ExCalifornian’ I think he is #2.
Know you lived there. Now, there may be worst run states although I can’t think of very many, Why do Californians put up with this?
I’ve heard there are more republicans in California than any other state. Not sure how they remain blue.
Population centers on the coast are dominated by the Woke/Left as they give them free stuff to vote for them.
Plus gerrymandering has done it’s best to minimize GOP representation within the state. They are now working on doing the same in US House of Reps.
They may have more republicans than any other state but they probably have more democrats than any other state.
I believe that there are more Dims in New York.
And after the Communist wins in NYC there will be less GOP so it will go down the toilet that much quicker.
Few Dems in NY now, they’re all Communists.
Democrats is rabidly becoming synonymous with Communist.
Don’t forget election rigging (including the recall).
Eagles news…
Here’s the game winning TD run by trevor Lawrence last night…
to answer the video posters question of how he stayed on his feet…HE DIDN’T….HE FELL TWICE YOU MORON
Laughing… some peoples children…
That was my reaction but I figured he was being sarcastic.
As a regular ‘Pun-ster’ myself I can empathize when a joke fails.
My thoughts exactly. Dude fell twice, just had the wherewithal to get up again quickly and not get tackled.
Good effort by Lawrence, five must be happy.
oh you know five was THRILLED
babygoat
Lawrence is in his 5th year now, and has a career passer rating of 84.5. That stinks BTW. Five didn’t exactly get the GOAT thing right with Lawrence.
Lol yeah, a very average talent at best.
Looked like RG stepped on his foot.
Is Ingram playing for the Jags now??
Laughing… the RG definitely stepped on his foot and tripped him up.
Lol yup, had the same thought, since Ingram loved to step on poor Kirk’s foot.
That was just payback for Kirk expecting him to snap the ball.
Kirk’s fault though. He should have turned all those plays into 2 yd TD runs.
And when he wasn’t stepping on Kirk’s foot, he was swiping the ball out of his hands.
The only guard to ever play that got a strip sack of his own QB.
Yep, but Kirk should have picked it up and ran for 20+ yards. You know Josh Allen would have.
Like he did when he fumbled the snap in the endzone against us?
Touche.
Looks like a “scripted” play to me (not sure whether I should use the sarcasm font or not).
So we released 2 players. Out with the old, in with the new?
Wonder who’s being acquired or moved up from the practice squad?
The G was on the 53, but was TE Vannett on the 53 as well?
Cashman coming of IR is one of them.
SKOLOHOLICS PICK ‘EM AND SURVIVAL LEAGUE UPDATES
My life continues to spiral into a version of The Stand as everyone I know and love succumbs to the plague, and I remain largely unaffected. This offers an opportunity to get the pick ’em and survival league update done on time. It’s no problem. I can skip one or two of the funerals scheduled…
Man, what a blood-bath this week. The pick ’em bracket looks as red as a voting map. Pretty much everyone sucked, except Bowbunch. He came out of nowhere and shot to the top of the weekly winner list, with only five wrong. Unfortunately, those losses had some big confidence points assigned to them, but he still topped second place by 11 points. That is a lot this week. Said second place was DE. ManlyPurple came third.
Overall, from the bottom up, JacksonVike, Bow, Freezy and Little Fish’in are the only ones lurking below 400 points. We should make a commercial for them with Sarah Maclachlan music to encourage some points donations. I can throw a few their way…
The next clump is made up of myself, Kirko Chainz!, Surly, PA and DE. We are comfortably into the 400s and really not that far out of the top spots. We are basically the Vikings: total competitive rebuild scores. We just need a Case Keenum or Darnold week to unexpectedly propel us to lofty heights.
Manly Purple is in the lead. Let’s Fish, NoDak and Lasallegrouse are hot on his heels. I smell blood. One of them is going to stumble and us competitive rebuilds will pounce!
Let’s more closely examine the futility this week. Everyone got the Rams, Eagles, Cardinals, Bills and Chiefs games horrendously wrong. The only games everyone got right were the Colts and the Lions.
I was the Traitor AND Iconoclast Pick of the Week because I was the only one to pick the Vikings to lose. I was torn. Poor OL against good DL. Rookie QB luck. On the other hand, Flores does good against rookie QBs. In the end, I decided to pick against the Vikes because of the pathological self loathing they produce within me.
Genius Pick of the Week was Bowbunch. He was the only one who got Washington over the Chargers.
Survival League was also a schiess show. DE, Freezy, Jackson Vike, Let’s Fish and Surly all picked up a strike. ManlyPurple and PA are the only two players left who are perfect. Everyone else is one more strike from getting kicked out.
I’m still torn on the two strikes vs. one strike thing, but maybe it is looking like two strikes is better. Otherwise, we would be down to only two players after five weeks. Where is the fun in that?
So, get your picks in before Thursday’s game. Also, get your picks in before you catch the plague and society collapses as people descend on MT’s lotion stash to keep their skin smooth and luxurious in the apocalypse.
NFL is just crazy this year imo.
Weird games.
Since I suck at picking this year, I changed my strategy.
I’m all done with my picks this week.
We will see if that helps.
Last week I was super confident in my picks. Just went down the list, bang, bang, bang…and the results sucked.
This week was a lot more challenging, and I didn’t suck as bad, comparatively.
I actually have the worst time picking the Vikings games. I am so familiar with the team that it is hard to ever be confident.
A shooting show? Pew pew? Were you aiming for “scheiss show” probably, which would translate tothis shit show ?
That is correct. Should be sh&t show.
Do you pronounce scheiss shIZE-ah?
scheiss pronunciation

It’s (D)ifferent when they do it.
The Dems are master manipulators on steroids. They can make anything someone else’s fault, and avoid any prosecution on their side like nobody’s business.
They had Government, the Legacy Media and Social Media helping them. That is tough to beat when that Trifecta is all calling the Scams ‘Truth’.
I shouldn’t say this, but the first thing Hitler and the Nazi’s did when they got into power was take total control of the media and film industry. They owned the airwaves, and only their messaging got out. Then they went after Academia to condition the next generation. Sound familiar?
Hitler also called the media fake news.
I don’t know about that Bow. You may be right.
That said, the Nazis quickly recognized the potential of radio as a tool for mass persuasion. In 1933, soon after Hitler’s rise to power, the Nazi government established the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, with Joseph Goebbels at its helm. Goebbels, a skilled orator and propagandist, understood the power of radio to reach the masses and shape public opinion. He famously declared, “It would not have been possible for us to take power or to use it in the ways we have without the radio.”
Under Goebbels‘ leadership, the Nazis invested heavily in radio infrastructure and programming. They established a network of powerful transmitters and distributed millions of cheap, mass-produced radio sets, known as the “People‘s Receiver” (Volksempfänger), to ensure that Nazi broadcasts reached every corner of Germany. By 1939, over 70% of German households owned a radio, one of the highest rates in the world at the time
Surprised many of us from this site aren’t on the list!
Don’t give them ideas mate 😅
Happy Tuesday,
12 more days until the next Viking game
GM!
FTP!
I was wrong about most games, and also only got 4 right in the Pickem thing. Fun game last night with the Jags playing well. I am still not sure why pass interference was not called on that late int.
Good game Sunday, Wentz balled out, the O Line played above their pay grade, coaching was good, and even with turnovers and penalties and a kick that hit a camera wire, the team found a way to win.
SKOL!
Kirk still sucks.
I too, only got 4 pickem games right and the only person I beat was Freezy, who didn’t get his picks in. It was a very weird weekend, for football. The gods were definitely on the underdogs side.
And i thought i sucked getting only 28 points!
Well, I do suck at pick’em but we all did this week.
I usually turn the Monday night game off at 9:30 or 10, but I stayed up a few minutes late to see the ending of that one. That was fun. That was a crazy touchdown play when Lawrence (sp?) fell down, struggled to get up and then still ran it in for the td.
