Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
The last Viking game sucked. As a matter of fact, much of the season has sucked so far in 2025. This is surprising to me and to many others who expected the team, especially the offense, to at least take a step forward. This hasn’t happened, and we’ve seen little to give us hope that things will change much. It isn’t one area of weakness, one thing leads to another, which leads to another. Something in the chain of events always breaks for them, especially on offense, but the defense has its share of the blame to shoulder.
it seems like the entire team is off. Everyone from the top to the bottom, from the coaching staff down to nearly every positional group. The pla calling has been less than stellar at times, the blocking has been atrocious at times, the team’s overall tackling seems to be poor for periods of time. KOC’s teams are normally disciplined and usually sit at or near the bottom of the NFL in team penalties. This year, the Vikings are 9th in the league in total penalties (with 6 of the 8 teams above them having played one more game than Minnesota), not the worst but pretty close.
The team is off. The season isn’t over by any stretch, you watch the rest of the league and there are no teams who are impossible to beat. That said, this team better wake up soon, or we’ll be discussing draft position and all that garbage as early as November. Yuck.
Vikings and NFL News
Adrian Peterson was arrested for DWI and a weapons-related charge, per CBS Sports. That sucks, I hate seeing the former players struggling. That’s what was cool about meeting guys like Marcus Sherels, Randall McDaniel, and Darryl Thompson (even though he’s a Packer), they’re genuinely good people who are succeeding in life and still doing good things in the community. I hope AD gets the help he needs, he obviously has some issues.
CBS Sports has their NFL week 8 winners and losers. I wonder if the Vikings will make either list?!?!?!
NFL.com has notable injuries and news from around the league after Sunday’s action.
Derrick Henry scored his 111th rushing TD, per NFL.com. Henry is now in 5th all time in rushing TDs.

Interesting interview here, Bohemian Grove is a fascinating subject, great rabbit hole if you’re bored.

18 innings in the World Series game 3. Crazy.
Turn out the lights… the party’s over…
That sure looked like a catch to me.
Lets see who the NFL want to give it to.
Yep… KC Touchdown… crap.
As well as the Redskins have played, and fought, I think KC is about to take a big lead and pretty much seal the deal here. Redskins have been unlucky tonight with the early interception, penalties, and muffed kick. Too much to overcome unfortunately.
Dinner finished. Just in time to watch KC get a 4th down TD.
Wonder why we can’t seem to do that??
Tied at 7 at the half. I think the Skins will be happy with that, but they should have kicked that field goal when they had the chance. The kicker looked shaky on the extra point though, so maybe they don’t have any confidence in him.
OK, now they get the TD. Crap.
Crap… Chiefs TD
Oh… just short…
3rd and 1
Straight up the middle for four yards…
That’s a play KOC could run with Hock. Short little run up the field about two steps and get the ball to him. Easy five yards.
Boy does KC look like they have a “fast” offense.
Redskins go for it on 4th down again. Bad plan. Failed.
Don’t get why they didn’t take the FG there.
It was a scoreless game, points are important.
More tipped interceptions. Still 0-0, Redskins making the Chefs work for it.
Blame it on Travis Swifts engagement.
Redskins get a lucky bounce of Kelce’s hands for another interception!
Didn’t stop them…
3rd and 4 to start the second quarter for the Chiefs. Hope we can stop them.
I thought Ertz got the first down. I think that was a weak spot. 4th down risk, came up 5 inches short. Sucks.
‘Virtual Measurements’ are so much BS.
Totally agree.
Wow, now THAT was an interception by the Redskins. Great defensive play by Lattimore.
Mahomes must have a lot of trust in his WR to throw into that tight of coverage.
They were practically wearing the same jersey.
That interception sucked so bad. Bounced off the receiver’s face.
Retired Army Master Sgt singing the National Anthem.
Better than Bad Bunny or whatever that freaks name is.
Love our colleagues in arms. Great to see.
Redskins taking on the Chiefs tonight. Another game I’ll watch on mute. Hoping the Redskins can get a win, but no confidence Marcus Mariota can get it done.
Would not a Redskin loss do more for the Vikings playoff chances.
That of course assumes that they team is not falling off a cliff going forward.
Really hadn’t considered that. I guess a Redskins loss would help, but if we need help from them, we’re in trouble.
News Flash: We are already in trouble.
A wise ovservation.
I changed the battery in the wife’s key FOB for her Challenger.
Took about 10 seconds.
She thinks I’m a GD mechanical genius.
Sssshhhh… don’t tell her.
Something to be proud of. Such things are what lifelong happy marriages are made of.
The keeping of a secret from her not the battery change.
Laughing… indeed.
Did we pick up a tight end so that we could trade Hockenson?
Just kidding, I already opined that they won’t move him until after this season.
Some of those bad throws make more sense now. Glad he gave us all he could.
I am now scared that the team will give up a draft pick(s) for a useless vet. Just play JJ and Brosmer. If one of them gets hurt, poach some teams practice squad. Just do not give up anymore draft picks.
Of course, if you are willing to take Cine over Hamilton, I guess picks do not really matter.
This does not look good for KOC and company, IMO. Good grief.
Gotta protect the QBOTF… you know… he’s more important than Wentz.
That is horrible. Shame on the trainers and anyone else that knew or should have known.
We could all see it playing out in high definition on our TVs. When it comes to things I’ve witnessed on live TV, without a parental advisory warning, this came near the top. To say he could keep playing because they didn’t want to play Brosmer, when we were down multiple scores, is just pathetic. Borderline abuse.
Agreed
Apparently Wentz was playing with a torn labrum and a fractured socket while taking a beating….
They used him like a rented mule.
Old news, I suppose. One day.
Brian Kelly fired as head coach of LSU. Wowza.
A&M whooped that ass!!!
Yep… Wentz to IR
Now what?
We have played like 28 quarters of football and had maybe 6 or 7 quarters of good QB play. You cannot win in the NFL like that unless you have a stacked roster. And as we saw last week that ain’t the case.
Seriously, what are we going to do.
Vikings will lose a lot of games.
Then, with the bad record, get a decent draft pick that they miss on.
Again.
We could shoot for the #1 overall pick, a first for the franchise I believe.
Go Jets Go!
Wentz is out for the rest of the season. Shoulder surgery.
Per an alert I received from the NFL app.
Thanks for the heads up, VP.
Let it never be said he wasn’t a tough SOB….
EAGAN, Minn. — It will never be said that Carson Wentz didn’t give everything he had for the 2025 Minnesota Vikings.
After starting five consecutive games and enduring considerable pain in his left, non-throwing shoulder for more than half of the contests, Wentz has been placed on Injured Reserve.
The Vikings announced the move Monday, the same day the team announced it had claimed tight end Ben Sims via waivers.
Wentz first suffered the injury in the first half of Minnesota’s Week 5 game against Cleveland in London. He gritted out the second half and led a game-winning drive by going 9-for-9 passing with 71 yards, featuring a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Addison with 25 seconds remaining.
Wentz did his best to rehab during the Week 6 bye and started in Week 7 against Philadelphia, the team that drafted him No. 2 overall in 2016.
The Vikings were unable to mount a comeback in a 28-22 loss to the Eagles and then had to go to Los Angeles to face the Chargers on Thursday Night Football. The short rest and travel didn’t help his recovery process.
Determined and relentless, he wore extra bracing on his shoulder (that he had never worn before). Prime Video cameras showed Wentz wincing in pain after multiple plays.
Wentz was sacked five times, and press box statisticians tallied eight quarterback hits by the Chargers. L.A. sent rushers from multiple directions and capitalized on Minnesota being without right tackle Brian O’Neill, as well as missing left tackle Christian Darrisaw for all but nine snaps and tight end Josh Oliver for all but eight.
Despite the adversity, Wentz kept telling Head Coach Kevin O’Connell that he wanted to stay in the game.
Per Vikings.com
Good kid, I hope he comes back when healthy, solid backup QB and potential starter. When healthy, he can be very good.
He should never start another NFL game. Regardless of his health his decision making is awful. He can start, just not for the purple. No thanks.
Far better than Manion & some of the others we’ve had. Jaren Hall, Kellen Mond, blech. Wentz can still play.
Thats a low, low bar. He’s a back up when he’s healthy at his age. And now he’s not healthy. Not a starter. I liked him as a back up but its been agony since the Bengals game ended.
He’s out for the season. I’m sure someone will pick him up next year if he wants to play.
Man, why was he on the field. No line and a screwed up shoulder.
Balls of steel.
I am really shocked KOC let him play. You don’t play a person who can’t protect himself. He was holding the ball in his right hand, would get sacked and fall with all his weight on the left shoulder. No way he could protect himself (and the ball).
He is tough as hell, but the coach should protect an athlete from himself.
I agree 100%. I said that same thing to my wife, the coach needs to be more aware & get someone healthy out there. Team had a better chance with a healthy Brosmer than a 20% Wentz. They should’ve gotten McCarthy in there, honestly. JJ needs to insist to step up & take over.
McFragile™ just needs a couple more games to heal up his ankle and get up to speed with playcalling and his footwork.
It’s Monday… usually Mondays are meetings and treatment day. Guess since we played Thursday, it’s an extra practice day.
The Carolina Panthers are 4-4.
From ESPNs Dan Orvlosky….couldn’t have said it better myself.
That is a damning article.
It’s what we have seen for ourselves. Straight up.
Well said.
We have proven the old adage that the team that wins free agency rarely wins on the turf.
Late in the day post that no one will read…
I was at that Chargers game. What a shitty shitty game…Disappointed with everything about the team – but especially the defense. I do not believe the Chargers punted once.
The Chargers fans were for the most part polite…Some drunk 20 something kid was mouthing off to my brother-in-law and me as we were leaving the stadium. I thought about squashing him like a bug but I knew my wife would be unhappy with me.
While there we also took in the art museum at the Getty Center to get some culture…Son of a bitch those old Italians sure could paint. I highly recommend it.
All in all I am just happy we left LA without getting shot or robbed.
I almost didn’t read it to prove you right, but couldn’t help myself. Watching on TV they just looked tired, no spark on eithor side of the ball. Hopefully they can get their shaving creme together for Sunday.
I read it. I will read it twice in case another person misses it.
I appreciate your effort.
‘Late in the day post that no one will read…’
I promise to never admit reading it.
Yup, when you don’t punt you are either playing really really well, or, rarely, really really poorly.
I want to go home and eat pork loin. I have given all I have to this day.
I think we have the Lions right where we want them. They will be coming off of their bye week, probably looking past us.
#trapgame
“Those poor bastards,” Puller said. “They’ve got us right where we want‘em. We can shoot in every direction now”

Love that!
You’ve changed your picture from “ I heart wrenage” to a trash dumpster.
Hope everything is ok.
We broke up
IT WAS MUTUAL!
This is the first week I am not taking the Vikings in pickem. We should win now, you’re welcome.
look at you, standing in your ivory tower, looking all prideful as you shame all the idiots who are already out of the pickem league…..
You guys ever encounter some dick while you’re on vacation, that puts a bad taste in your mouth for the rest of the day?
Background is that we were staying in a VRBO with another couple, and half of the homes in Sedona are short term rentals, so you can imagine there is probably some gripes from the locals about tourists. We were up at the base of Capitol Butte and there were few sidewalks, lots of people walking along the side of the road.
Four of us went for a walk about 9 am one morning, on one such road without a sidewalk, keeping to the edge of the road (not like it’s wooded, this is Arizona). We spot three javelinas trotting through a cul-de-sac on the other side of the road, stop to snap some pics. Car comes along heading downhill (opposite side of the road) and comes to a stop, window rolls down, some lady says, “Do you wanna die? Standing in the middle of the road is a good way to get hit by a car!”…with the last half of that statement made as she starts rolling the window up and driving away.
I yelled HAVE A NICE DAY! after her but her window was up.
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHYYY DO YOU DO THIS
TMI!
Not to mention No Kink Shaming..
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This will make my week.
I WILL giggle about this in traffic. Several times.
thank you

Everyone likes some dick on vacation
When we were in Florida last winter, somebody tried to say I stole their luggage and even had the cops on the way. I got my butt chewed by some old lady after being frustrated on airplanes all day. I gave it back to her and then after a couple of hours I saw her again and she finally apologized.
I hate the apology after a blow up.
Then I think…why did I blowup in the first place?
But…we are emotional creatures.
She calmed down when she realized I didn’t steal her luggage. Wouldn’t listen to reason of course initially, but I took the high road and actually found one of their bags in the parking lot.
Too many people let emotions run their lives instead of logic. Including me, especially when it comes to women. But yeah, at the air port you cant be emotional, its only going to make your day worse. Let alone accusing someone of theft. Like come on.
This was at our hotel as I was leaving to get food for my family.
I just knew I could count on you…
Never blown a dude before, so no I haven’t
A few things I noticed while in Sarasota / Venice Florida.
If I ever end up relocating, it will probably be to Florida. Summers can be brutal, but I like enough to want to live there.
The other eight or nine months are more than worth it. And there’s plenty of water and AC in the hot months.
And the arthritis help is a big deal, at least to me.
My wife would seriously like to live in Arizona January and February. Other than those months, she loves our home in Montana.
I get a six week sabbatical in 2028 or 2029, I bet we spend the majority of that time in Sedona (this trip was my first to Sedona, she has been there twice before).
We considered Arizona (Flagstaff and Prescott) strongly before we choose Idaho. But at the time the border was wide open, thank you FJB, and it was being flooded with Illegals.
If we had to choose now with DJTs closed border we might have picked differently.
Palmetto bugs are just rich people’s cockroaches, right?
Yep, but they also fly. not far, but they have wings. Basically flying cockroaches and they are pretty much evil.
I’d like a place in Florida, also a place up here so I can spend summers, also spring and fall for walleye fishing, and pheasant season. Either Florida or the Caribbean, leaning toward the Caribbean.
We vacationed in Sedona last week, I would describe it as kind of a Disneyland for the 55+ set. Beautiful scenery, great hikes, very quiet (and dark) at night. Would recommend.
My wife was convinced we’d run into flight delays but this is the first trip in a while where we had smooth sailing from TSA to bag pickup on the trip down and back.
I have to say all the Waymo cars in Phoenix, especially around the airport, kinda freaked me out although they were intriguing.
I really enjoyed Sedona when we were there. Beautiful places to hike. I still prefer water over mountains and high desert, but both are better than Minnesota winters.
Sedona was mentioned in our sermon yesterday, so I have now heard that word two days consecutively after not hearing it in probably decades.
Maybe I should go there.
I think it is a very nice area. I am not a gouger so I could not afford to live there, but it is absolutely a fantastic place to visit. Serene is the word that comes to mind. Really nice state/national parks.
Surprisingly, real estate (at least on Zillow) did not seem very expensive there. Most listings were at or just under 1 mil. No basements, etc…
Yep, but in Florida, I can find a 3 bedroom home in a 55+ golf community for around 450 – 600k…..
Did you tour any wineries? The one in Jerome has breathtaking views.
No. We are not wine drinkers. One of the things about Sedona is that it is what we in Montana call Bozemanized, in that all the commercial businesses are stealth camouflaged, with no visible signs from the street and all with that red adobe look.
I did go down the slide at Slide Rock state park twice. The water temp was nothing to chuckle about, I got major shrinkage.
Before I fully decide on Hock, is the year lost or not?
Usually I’m an optimist, but after the other night, a bit shaken.
The Vikings sort of stopped using their TE as a primary weapon right after Cousins got here in 2018. Rudolph went from being a great receiving TE, to a blocker. It was a weird change I didn’t get. Then when Hock came in, Cousins used him very strongly initially, and with great success. Then, he faded as a threat. We paid Hock a lot of money to stay with the team after his “holdout” but he hasn’t been used as a big weapon by KOC. Jefferson is the star receiver and then Addison. I don’t know why the offense seems so limited now. It just doesn’t work efficiently, and eschewing the TE in the grand scheme of things bugs me.
Defenses stuff the run and blanket Jefferson, and the offense has no answers.
Seems like they need the extra blocker this year with the OT injuries.
Although it doesn’t seem that Hock does that very well.
Oliver is a much better blocker
So we more two TE sets.
Oliver to block and Hock to catch.
But we already have 3.5 good WRs.
Would think with our pass blocking problems. Hock would be the QB’s best friend. He should be getting tons of balls.
Cover JJ, feel pressure, throw it to Hock.
McCarthy used his TE in college quite a bit so maybe things change this week.
I hope so. Getting the ball out to a guy and giving him a chance to move the chains has got to be job one for KOC. Throws to the TE don’t require hardly any processing. This why Mahomes has was so successful with Kelce early on. Mahomes didn’t process anything. Just threw the ball to an open TE. These are simple reads and throws. I hope we utilize this scheme in the offense much more in the future. Instant success for McCarthy and the offense.
KOC wants to run complex route combinations, but they take time and a lot of processing by the QB. Just get it to a guy in a little space, and let him run.
“Just get it to a guy in a little space, and let him run.”
That’s what Cousins did on a 4th and 8 a few years back, got crucified for it.
Shit…I’m a day early. Sorry
It’s amazing how a band of misfits, like us, adhered to that unwritten rule so well.
Hock really made a bad choice on that play. Cousins was working JJ deep, but there was no way to get him the ball, and JJ himself didn’t even look back. Hock took his route outside. I think if he takes it inside, he gives Cousins a much better throwing angle that allows Hock to move upfield. The out was pretty much dead, unless Hock broke a tackle.
No he didn’t, he just handed the ball to a running back.
I don’t think it is.
I don’t think he’ll leave this year, his dead cap hit is too high. It isn’t feasible until the off-season.
Dead cap
In terms of a competitive season, that’s not going to happen. I’d trade Hock in a heartbeat, he is underperforming his contract.
My wish for the season has and will continue to be seeing what McFragile™ can do.
I’m just tired of the ‘wait until next year.’
Wait until next year, and “Someday” are all we ever have.
FREE BEER TOMORROW!

Bing sucks
This year is not over yet. Might be dark right now, but the night is always darkest just before the dawn.
Love the new name for JJ
McFragile™
Perfectly accurate
I think MT trademarked that phrase.
I agree that he’s underperforming, but why take the massive dead cap hit now when you can avoid a chunk of that by waiting a few months?
Season is a bust. Fire sale time IMO.
Nah, now that JJ is coming back, the season is just getting started.
Rec for optimism
This coming game against the Lions will definitely be a telling one. I was very surprised at how poorly we played Thursday. We have not lost games by double digit margins much over the last 7 years. We got beat up by the Chargers though. Can we pull a Rocky, get up off the mat, throw some haymakers with blood streaming from our face, and win?
I expect that the Lions game will not be as “bad” as expected. Vikes will still lose, of course, but I don’t expect 50-3 or anything.
My main concern is OL breakdowns, which will make JJ try to do too much with his feet and get dinged again. He really needs to string some games together.
‘I don’t expect 50-3 or anything’
#nojinx
Running the ball for 18 yards on 9 carries just killed the offense from the start. KOC has never really embraced the concept of a strong running game though. He likes to throw first to open up the run game. The problem is, he can’t do either right now.
Mine is our defense – it’s terrible.
Defense is doomed. On the plus side, the Lions don’t have Johnson anymore, so it may only be partially doomed.
They lost their Johnson. I guess it’s better than losing your Penix.
Maybe MT has it, I think he’s into that kind of thing.
I just read that, got a good chuckle.
I would say a win in Detroit is about as likely as Jennifer Lawrence sending me a love letter.
Hmmmm… well you’re married, so that’s probably a good thing.
Oh I agree (plus she is so liberal that the fantasy would be spoiled right from the beginning).
If I were to pick someone to correspond with, it would not be Jennifer Lawrence. I would be hard pressed to find any Hollywood actress that would interest me. We would have nothing in common to discuss.
Think about three feet lower.
The problem with that is that it doesn’t last very long and then you have (at least at my age) days of trying to relate to someone that which you have no common ground.
Sidney Sweeney seems nice, intelligent and fairly conservative from what I have heard.
Not that she would interested in interacting with a creepy, old man such as myself.
I would pick Cynthia E. I think we’d really connect…
I’m glad I don’t know who that is.
Isn’t that one of the cheerleaders for the Panthers?
Not white, pretty and male enough to be one of ours.
#sad
Kathy Bates for me……
give a f*** about her politics, just think she’s an awesome actress
I saw that after we poached Fries and Kelly from the Colts, they now have the top-rated OL in football. I just thought I’d tell you that in case you have any open wounds…
Thanks…
They also have a qb that’s balling out. SMH.
Oh yeah…THAT guy…
Lions and Packers looking strong this year. Ravens did a good job beating the Bears. We have issues.
At least the Bears lost.
FTB
I’d be open to trading hock, he’s been good, not elite, injuries haven’t helped, but with this team seemingly going nowhere I wouldn’t blame the FO for trading him
when we trade him for a 5th or 6th, i can’t wait to watch the fans MELT DOWN….
Hock was a good safety valve for Cousins.
He also hasn’t been the same since his injury. Pretty sure it is in his head. He seeks the ground after most catches.
….leading with his back. Good way to get hit in the back.
I remember a handsome feller saying the Vikings should draft a tight end to replace Hock last spring and said gentleman being called an idiot.
i don’t recall ever saying that…but i appreciate the compliment
It was a handsome feller that can change a battery in under a day.
Most should take about 10 mins
You mean, it’s not supposed to take 3 days, asking for a friend?
Loveland!
there isn’t anyone on here who would qualify as a gentleman
Gentleman equates to ‘Nice Guy’ now a day.
Nice Guy equals ‘friend zone’.
Kinda sad, dude has always had off field issues and it continues into retirement
This is the evolution of a RB who can’t learn to pickup the blitz. It snowballs.
There’s got to be an NFL program for former players about stuff like this. AP needs help.
he couldn’t pick up the blitz or catch well out of the backfield…
how can you be expected to catch life changes if you can’t catch a freaking football?
it’s not his fault.
Another victim of a capitalist society.
Ben, couple of posts I read yesterday suggest you lost your dad recently? If so, condolences.
He passed about a year ago, it sucked, thank you
I need to keep a database on such things…I miss my dad some times, as well.
Sorry Ben.
I miss my father. He is still alive, but with dementia he has no clue who I am.
I have not been to visit in almost a year. It is just depressing to see him.
On the positive side, my Sister got married and I got to be the one to walk her down the aisle. And I did not fall down or trip her, so it was a success.
That’s sad. So Sorry.
I miss my Father every day of my life.
Things are tough with my mom (80) now (they say she has mild I would say moderate dementia). She acts very depressed, although she denies it. Her care team advocated for ECT but my sister (with my agreement) as her POA declined that. I had told her that we were going to Sedona, on Wednesday got a call that she thought I was lost in Calgary with my dog, and that my brother in law and I were joining the military. They suspect a UTI but can’t get a specimen from her.
Called her yesterday, still confused, 0930 and hadn’t got out of bed or had breakfast yet. She is skin and bones, I suspect she is going to break a hip one of these days and that will be the spiral.
I, too, am frustrated by how amotivational and anhedonic she is.
Getting old sucks.
I remember you talking about him before and the dementia, that sucks
Leaving MSP this AM.
Almost took the Bengals in survivor pool, but changed to the Pats.
Trade Hock.
