Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
The game thread was full, so here’s a place to hang out whilst watching the late games today. The Vikings put together a fantastic game today, especially on defense, and got a huge win against the Lions. The win was even bigger in terms of division standings, considering the Packers and Lions both lost, so the Vikings are that much closer to their rightful place atop the NFC North. SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I’ll put this up here, hopefully the greedy pricks at the NFL don’t make them take it down before the end of the day.
Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
- Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.
JJ (QB) still has not lost in the state of Michigan.
Sammy D looking great. Happy for him.
Even Daniels back the Redskins suck.
Down 28-0 to the SeaChickens in the 2nd Qtr.
Pukers lose – get beat up in the process.
Lions lose – get beat up in the process.
Bears pull a win out of their Bear-asses.
At 4-4 with a lot of season left, are we buyers before the deadline?
I think so, we are 2-0 in the division with both wins being on the road.
We are mostly shooting ourselves in the foot when we lose.
Lots of reason for optimism.
My only complaint, probably been discussed today….but KOC is REALLY bad at time management and throwing for it on 2nd and 3rd and goal from the 2 on their last possession was BRUTAL.
It always looks bad when it doesn’t work.
Probably less complaints if they had scored the TD there.
Yep, a million reasons to run the ball on the goal line when they could’ve put the game away, but he calls two passing plays that stopped the clock, and they settle for 3. Detroit gets the ball back with 3 minutes left instead of getting the ball back with 1:30 left. Huge difference that almost cost them. Lucky JJ hit that back shoulder throw to Nailor to seal the game. Otherwise, they punt and we know all too well that the results would not have been good.
I couldn’t watch the game so I don’t know all of the details. So were CD and Potato still in game or had they reached their snap limits??
Obviously the Loins were stacked up to stop the run so mayhaps KOC felt the pass was a better option.
They Vikings ran 23 runs and 29 passes today so it is not as if he abandoned the run all day.
If they’d have run the ball instead of passing on the 2 plays they passedk, and even if they lost yards on both runs, they’d have still kicked the FG, and the Lions would’ve gotten the ball back with 1:30 left instead of 3 minutes.
Agree. Just run the ball.
If you know you can kick a field goal to go up 2 scores, AND take 1:30 off the clock….JUST DO IT.
he almost got picked off on his throw to JJ too…
Yup, that pass was 6 inches from being an INT.
Yup, indeed. That sequence could have cost us the game. KOC trying to be cute is never a good idea.
Goddamn it feels good to get a win!
McCarthy played well, room to improve but all in all played well – his legs are going to be a problem for defenses. Going the wrong way twice on run plays isn’t great, but the 2nd time his athleticism bailed him out.
The TD throw to Jets was a beaut.
Miles Price WILL have a house call this year – kid is a very good returner.
Where is Adam Thielen?
BFlo found the right formula today with Hitman – bring him from all angles, early and often. Not the same player in coverage, but can still be a menace in the box.
Eric Wilson >>>> Ivan Pace.
LDR & Redmond continue to flash and make plays – they’ve been better than Hargrave & Allen.
Glad the refs had a short drive home to Grosse Pointe, jerks.
Came into the world on a Vikings win over Detroit in November of ‘78. Winding down the last few days of my 46th spin on the planet with a Vikings win over Detroit. Feels right.
Blake Cashman just made another tackle.
We’re 4-4 and suddenly have life.

Preach Brother!
Cashman is also the dude who forced the fumble by Montgomery, I didn’t see that at the time. He had a hell of a day. Let’s hope he and Van Winkle can stay healthy.
Yup. When healthy, he’s been a very good signing.
Tucker, GB, TE was taken out by his own teammate. Early word is ACL and out for the season.
I hear he is good people but that is a big loss for FTP. So I am sad for him but not for the team.
Childhood Vikes fan, correct?
Feel bad for him. Don’t feel bad for his team.
That is how I understand it.
Someone on here is a friend of the family.
I don’t remember who because I am old.
Edge…..
Yup, good guy, hate to see that. The replay looked fugly, he’ll be out for the year.
Joe Flacco had 470 passing yards today.
But they lost.
Should have put in Jake the Snake.
He has a better nickname so that would have worked.
The Carolina Panthers are 5-4.
They are probably the biggest surprise of the season so far, and got an excellent win today.
Yep.
Pukers Super Bowl hype is waaaayyyy over the top.
Great win on the road against a good divisional opponent today.
Very encouraging with JJ’s play.
Good to get mostly healthy.
Did Brandel and Jurgens do well today?
Or should we try to upgrade OC at the deadline??

Happy girl. You may recall I was one who didn’t give up on JJ(QB). Kept saying, give the kid some time and a fair chance. I said I was hoping he wouldn’t look overwhelmed and not let a couple of mistakes cascade into a disaster. He did better than that today. We still don’t know for sure if we have our QB of the future, but today was encouraging.
Yes, very encouraging that he didn’t look overwhelmed at any point of the game. This kid can handle the NFL, he just needs reps, and of course, stay healthy.
That last pass to seal the game was very nice.
Yes! He got emotional in the post game presser when they asked him what it meant to him that he got such a great reaction from the whole team in the locker room.
And to JJ. And to Hock. And to Addy.
Amen!
New NFL FG record, 68 yards?
Whodunnit?
Yep, Cam Little, Jacksonville Jags.
Kick had room to spare too. He’ll nail a 70 yarder one of these days.
I think he made a 70 yarder in the preseason. Pretty sure it’s the same guy.
Yup, that’s the guy. He was livid when he was told that that preseason 70 yarder didn’t go into the record book because preseason. Kinda happy for the dude that he made the record after all, in a game that counts.
The need to narrow the goalposts. This is getting ridiculous.
I mostly listened to the game, watched some. Mostly good from JJ, saw a couple miscues, air mailed jets once wide open for likely first down, threw behind nailor on the pick, but mostly good. The defense played about as well as I’ve seen this year, they’re finally healthy now that VG is back and look much different. Also helped having the tackles back on offense. That is a big division road win, on to Baltimore more. Also, lol FTP lost to Carolina.
It was a really good football weekend. The Gophers won in overtime. The Vikes win, the Packers lose, the Lions lose. The Bears messed it up, or rather the horrible Cincy defense ruined it.
That Bengals defense is comically bad. Did you see that winning TD? There were 5 Bengals around him, the guy who tried to shoulder tackle him just bounced off, the rest ran around like they were lost. It was funny as hell.
Yeah, that was some horrible defense. The look on Jamar Chase’s face said it all after that play. Great win today, skol!
Sounds like Keystone Cops.
Yup, exactly what it looked like.
Wrap up!!
I know, right? It’s a good play to show kids to show them what not to do.
Is it true that Rodgers got chased down by the kicker?
LOL, yup.
Lol…he should have to buy the first round tonight
Yes. Great play that left me confused
I love being wrong about today’s game.
I also love that JJ did not die, and he played well.
Can you see any other QB we have had recently avoid some of the sacks JJ avoided?
Maybe Dobbs, but he cannot throw the ball.
It is nice to have a QB that is an accurate passer(Most of the time) and can still use his legs when needed.
Plenty to work on, but the kid played well.

Indeed. I dreaded the game today, JJ’s play, how the team presented itself in general made for a very nice surprise. Excellent script by the NFL for this one.
Couldn’t see the game – living in Florida does have some drawbacks.
But mentioned this morning on any given Sunday..
Was reading the box score and it seemed kind of strange, We had 116 net passing yards and 142 running yards. How do score 27 points with roughly 250 yards of offense. Would think very hard to do without a pick six or a kickoff return.
We had a ‘kickoff return’ but the NFL couldn’t allow that.
You did call it.
The QB matters.
That’s certainly insightful.
Defense won the game today, they were dominant.
Defense played well and the blocked FG was big.
But if the QB sucks and doesn’t capitalize on those opportunities, you don’t win the game.
Good thing the qb didn’t suck and was able to score TDs in the redzone.
Under rated point.
they had 2 touchdown drives of 35 yards, also, they made plays in key spots
Yup, blocked FG returned almost to the goal line also.
Thanks. That would explain it (nd what GF said also).
What a win, who woulda thunk it.
Thanks for the highlight post.
Those of us who didn’t get the game today appreciate you.
Oh and obligatory FTP.
You bet. NFL won’t allow videos to be embedded, so they’ll likely make them pull the video soon. Figured it would last long enough for everyone to see.
It is only the first qtr highlights, actually looks like all of the plays.
I will get the rest on YouTube in a bit.
Fun to do once you know that it is a win.
Hell of a win by the good guys today.
