Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Happy hump day, everyone! It’s been a crazy week so far up here in the northern Dakota, we had rain yesterday morning followed by high winds and falling temps. I’m guessing the roads are going to be just lovely today, I can’t wait. I have two longer trips that I have to do this week, so I get to experience the chaos first-hand. Lucky me!

Vikings.com looks at where the team sits in the various NFL power rankings. They’re hovering in the lower 20s in all of them, maybe they can get above 16 by year’s end so we can say they surpassed mediocrity.
Also at Vikings.com, the updated NFC playoff picture and the Vikings’ status heading into week 15.
From Yahoo Sports, the Colts have signed 44 year-old QB Phillip Rivers in the wake of the injury to Daniel Jones.
NFL.com looks at potential playoff clinching scenarios for week 15 of NFL action.
From ESPN, Quentin Jammer talks about his battle with alcohol and talked about how he played ‘s*** faced drunk’ in at least 8 games in 2011. Jammer was an excellent corner who played 12 years for the Chargers, only missing 4 games in those 12 years.

Just got back from another enjoyable round of golf. Weather is perfect for golf.
For me it’s especially pleasing as this is the first. year of living in Florida being able to play golf. And what a plus to be able to play golf this time of year after living up North all my life.
Indeed. I got home though and immediately ate some lunch, then nap time. Slept well. My wife washed my sweaty clothes and let me snooze. She’s a keeper.
It was so nice out, wearing a sweater, never broke a sweat.
I’m really not sure what KOC is on about, other than in college, hash marks are positioned 40 feet apart. This wider spacing compared to the NFL, where hash marks are set 18 feet 6 inches apart, allows for more dynamic offensive plays and greater strategic flexibility. The question was about a pure progression offensive scheme, versus one where the QB dismisses throws immediately at the line of scrimmage.
Man, that is crystal clear for sure!
KOC talks in circles. Never really answers a question.
Well, this is where we’re at fellas…
The Lions could easily lose to the Rams and there is a small possibility that we can beat the Cowboys, but it is a real stretch to think that the Browns can beat the Bears.
We are currently 6.5 pt underdogs to Jerry’s Kids.
Vegas must figure it will us vs the Ref and the Cowpokes.
So I hit the ball well today. Seems I have finally found a driver swing. Hit some beautiful drives today. One sour note, I snapped the head off my five wood on the first hole. It was a par five, and the second shot you had to carry a marsh. I hit a good drive, and was preparing to hit a 5 wood. The carry over the marsh was about 145 yards, so a smooth five wood, was plenty. I was taking a couple warm up swings, trying loosen up my wrists and fingers, and somehow on a swing the clubhead impacted the ground and snapped off. It wasn’t like I smashed the clubhead into the ground either. Just a normal impact with the ground like I always do. After busting my five wood, I hit a seven wood and cleared the marsh by a good 10 to 15 yards. Left me with 150 left to the green, and I hit a nice shot up to the right side of the green. Then I blew the birdie putt about 10 feet past the hole, and ended up with a bogey. Irritating start to the day.
Anyway, this was a very difficult course, and I shot a good 85. The driver was definitely working. I hit pretty much every fairway, and this course had some difficult driving holes. All in all, I was happy with the round. Now I have to get a new shaft for my five wood though.
Nice round.
It can be expensive to reshaft a club. Might be cheaper to go to a site like Callaway Preowned and can get a fairly new club in great condition for just a little more.
Thanks. I’ll check it out. I thicked a few chips and pitches today, just decelerating and not being aggressive enough through the ball. I knew I just had to swing a little more aggressively. The last 6 holes I was hitting really good shots.
Laughing… yeah, it wasn’t like that. It was very odd. It felt like I barely struck the ground. Then the head went whistling down the fairway.
Question on golf etiquette If you are playing a somewhat completive round with friends for money, and one of them hits a 9-iron and the head flies off on impact with the ball/ground, do you let them re-hit that shot or do you just tell them “those are the breaks”?
Laugh and tell them that’s what they get for buying golf clubs from Costco.
It actually happened to me, my ping irons are a bit old and the 9 iron head flew off as I contacted the ball – causing a really bad shot.
The guys I was playing with graciously let me re-hit. I had to hit a lot of soft 8 irons the rest of the round.
So according to the Rules of Golf, if a player begins their downswing with the intent to strike the ball and the clubhead separates from the shaft, the swing is considered complete, and it counts as a stroke, regardless of whether the ball is hit or not. If the clubhead comes off during the backswing though, it does not count as a stroke.
Usually, even if you’re playing for a lot of money, your friends are not going to hold you to the strictest rules of golf though. That would be a little uncouth in a situation like this.
Depends how much you like them
Thats a nice round on a tough course. Have you played it before? I would be lost without my 5 wood
No… never played the course before. Played with a guy who has a membership there and plays the course a lot. He shot 91. He told me where I needed to hit the ball, and the places to avoid at all costs. Nice guy. We had fun, and most of the time I hit shots to the targets he was pointing out. He said I followed instructions well. I said “28 years in the military will do that”. The greens were smooth and fast. First few putts I hit went by several feet. I made the 5 or 6 foot comeback putts though which kept the round going.
‘Looks like water is in play on about half the holes’
Wear waders
NOYST!!
I didn’t think anyone noticed that response from yesterday.
I did – thought it was funny.
Was going to add ‘just get floatable balls and a good ball retriever.
‘good ball retriever’
I think Dogs should be left out of it.
I think he is talking about the tranny’s at the 7-11.
Hey Edge,
Have you talked to your friend, Tucker Kraft, lately? How is his recovery going?
I hate the FTP, but I was a big fan of his at SDSU (Go Jacks). He seemed like a very good man. Hoping he is well.
I interact actually with him pretty rarely. Like a few comments here or there but more so his step dad is a good friend. He said his spirits are high. They had to wait quite a while for swelling to go down before actual surgery. I remember that being a thing with Hock too. He’s got a new daughter so more time with her has to help. Tuck is good shit through and through. He’s no stranger to setbacks and difficulties in life if you know his story.
Tell him I am sorry that I cursed his season. Every TE on my fantasy roster got injured….
Ditto. I had him and LaPorta.
Damn, DO NOT pick up Hock… not sure why you would anyway but don’t lol.
I do not know his story, but, it is good to hear all is going well.
Now, if he would simply drop every pass he gets when they play the Vikes…
The reason I have a connection to him is his step dad. His bio dad died crop dusting when he was like 12. So his mom was left to raise the 3 boys alone. Tough stuff. She’s a VERY tough and kind woman. Nurse on the reservation. So his mom is white but biological dad was like my first friend when I moved to the Rez in 2010.
My oldest daughter is 6, she had her karate yellow belt test the other day. Part of the test is to break a board with her fist and I got the pleasure of holding the board for her. She looked shocked when she snapped it in half. She is learning the way of the fist well.
Funny, the GIF was not showing up when I posted.
My daughter, at that age, only wanted to do Tae Kwon do with her brother and I if they had a pink belt. I told her I would wash her Red belt and make it fade if she got that far.
She was not interested….
You are doing a good Dad job.
First time I broke a board, my sensei said, cool and congratulated me but also reminded me what Bruce Lee said, “Boards are easy, boards don’t hit back.” Granted I was in my 20s haha.
You are a good dad benjammin, ain’t no one going to mess with your daughter!!
That is my hope, that she kicks the shit out of anyone who messes with her
For dads with daughters,
President Trump at a rally last night said anyone who says prices are too high is a liar and a democrat.
Anyone around here been saying groceries and prices and such are too high? Sorry to inform you that you are now a Dem. My condolences.
Quiet you dem
All politicians are lying shits.
The end.
dis you now. Your commander in Cheeto has decreed it.
Actually, I am quite happy with the way prices are coming down. However, this does not make me a “boot licker” for Trump. I am also wise enough to understand that tariffs will cause the price of shitty products made in China to go up. On the other hand, if the tariffs are kept in place long enough for production to amp up in the USA, you will be able to get a good quality, American made product, for the same price. The difference is it will, more than likely last longer.
Agreed.
NAFTA started the decline of production in the US and Bush Jrs tax credits to companies that sent manufacturing to China, put the nail in the coffin. It is about time we had a leader that put the US worker’s interest ahead of foreign entities.
Fair enough. I just saw a video about how these bail outs for farmers are LOVED by the big seed companies because these bailouts don’t go into the farmer’s pockets they basically go directly to those big seed companies they are in debt to. That’s who’s really benefitting. I hadn’t thought of that but seems true.
Those same seed companies are killing us slowly with the chemicals used as pesticides and the genetically modified seeds sold.
I am earning my name today….
Genetically modified seeds reduce the number of pesticides and herbicides needed. “Non-GMO” is just another marketing ploy to sell you the same product for more money.
You are obviously just a shill for “big seed”.
Simply a Monsanto shill.
Not a shill, just the son of a farmer.
Nice try fed. I’m still not paying my taxes.
You will pay, or you will “pay”.
Not the son of a farmer. Used to work for a seed company though.
Not impressed with how they strongarm the farmers by financing the seed and the pesticides and other chemicals. They make money the same way banks do. Interest. Taking a loss on product does not matter, get them in debt.
My other issue with modified seeds is the fact that you usually cannot take the seeds from the crop and re plant. They are doing that intentionally to insure market share.
Yup this, GMO does NOT = bad. It can, depends on how and what was done but doesn’t inherently mean bad.
GMO = bad if you cannot take the seed from resulting crop, and plant said seed.
I am not expecting to die from consuming GMO products, I am expecting to die either from the additives to the processed crap I enjoy, or by having a fatal heart attack if the Vikings ever win a Super Bowl.
But there you go, what’s bad about it is NOT that it’s GMO it’s that you cannot take the seed from the resulting crop. That’s not every GMO seed. As I understand it, it’s the contract that the farmers have to fulfill to buy all new seed correct?
Yep. It is the contract. Farmers good, seed companies and most corporations are evil.
Well, yep prices are still to high.
My wife who is really conservative made this comment yesterday. ‘ I go to the grocery store, toilet paper paper towels, fruits and veggies, meats – you name it, all sky high. Our bill hasn’t come down al all. And if Repubs keep saying we inherited this, we’re doing all these great things, they are still going to get killed in the midterms if those prices at the store remain the same..’
Think she is right on.
And another little comment, the average just getting by American doesn’t give a a rats how many wars Trump stops overseas.
Eggs are back to a more reasonable price. Everything else has just continued to go up.
That is how we are robbed. Inflation.
Take away an asset backed currency, replace with fiat, and you are robbed via the printing press of the fed, and inflation.
Our owners know exactly what they are doing.
I totally don’t get Trump on this. He got elected on bringing prices down. Dems were out of touch saying everything’s getting better. And now Trump, instead of listening to all his bright advisors, needs to go to the grocery store and talk to a few shoppers.
Inflation is not a light switch.
Prices are down, a lot of them.
Others are not. Dims and Fake News are concentrated on those that are not.
Agreed, he has a year to beat their narrative.
Prices are not down, but hey, just keep believing the rich guy that doesn’t give a shit about this issue.
Better than the rich guy who didn’t know his own name and that made em go up at the highest rate since Carter.
The TDS is strong in that one.
TDS and woke, it’s always the same excuse from the right. C’mon, time to think of a new one.
It really should be classified as a real disease, especially because I think it’s more real than a lot of others out there.
Rosie has a bad case of TDS and is in therapy. A lot of others need to be.
This rich guy doesn’t GAF about grocery prices. He never has, never will.
That would be Biden and the Dems, actually. Everything skyrocketed up under that administration. I mean skyrocketed. Trump is doing everything possible to bring prices down. Guess you haven’t noticed eggs have come down dramatically, as well as fuel costs. He’s now working on beef. Biden and the Dems don’t care about anything but winning elections, and increasing their power. They are the worst of the worst kind of people.
Name a president that hasn’t been a “rich guy”.
TDS does not allow for ‘Logic’.
That’s the thing though. He’s a rich guy that never had to walk through a grocery store probably his whole life. Higher prices don’t affect him, which is why he doesn’t care.
Name a president who does their own shopping, please. I’ll wait.
‘that never had to walk through a grocery store probably his whole life’
I believe he was in a store last year, handing out $100 bills to mothers. That is $100 more than any Woke politician has ever done.
Every president for a long time has been like that. They become detached from what it is like to be an ordinary person.
Trump and the repubs need to acknowledge the fact that prices are still too high. People see and feel that everyday. The messaging should be more on what they are doing to turn it around.
If they stick to their current strategy, they will lose the House and Senate in the mid-terms. Which means 2 years of nothing but Impeachment bullshit, etc…
Exactly. They need to start doing some things, get on the horn and tell people what you are doing. Show them you are “aware”. feel their plight, and are actually doing something about it.
And like it or not – this is now Trump’s Economy and Problem. They will rise or fail depending on getting results.
Yep, prices for groceries are too high.
They were too high when DJT took office, and they have gotten higher, albeit slower.
Idiots spending on DoorDash and other scams are crazy, lean to cook, crockpot makes it easy. I just put a bunch of chicken thighs in our with Teriyaki seasoning and some leftover jarred peaches. Will serve it over rise tonight, dinner done for little money. We look for sales/deals and shake our heads and the spending habits of youngsters today. And most people are ‘youngsters’ to us at our age.
It’s not just the food delivery. I get frustrated with my daughter because she uses the grocery pick up at Walmart. I have always hated going to Walmart, but it is even worse now that they have employees going around picking out everyone’s groceries. There are probably 20-30 employees going around gathering everyone’s groceries, that cost gets passed on to the consumer.
Yeah plus they are frustrating to dodge around.
When we Walmart, we alternate it with Costco, AFB Commisary and Fred Myers, we have a list and look for sales. The Teacher gets her prescriptions there so we go once a month or so.
Those employees shopping are the rudest people on the planet.
I never go into walmart, but Target and Hy Vee also have pickup/deliver, and they will run right over you.
I used to complain to a supervisor, now I just yell at the rude employee directly.
“Why do you think you filling that cart is more important than me filling my cart? Did you just not see me here before you hit me with that cart, or are you a complete asshole?”
That was at Target on Monday….
‘That was at Target on Monday…’
Did you get your Pride Tuck Swimwear??
JV, this is the coming of the apocalypse moment for me. During COVID it made sense, now you have to dodge around employees picking up someone else’s groceries, the prime close parking spots are for those who are far too busy to even come and get their groceries from within the store, they even need someone to come and load them in their vehicle.
The earlier coming of the apocalypse moment was all the kids being kept home for a full school year + during the pandemic, and the astounding revelation that they suffered because of it.
Like any aging old fart, I believe my childhood was a golden time.
‘those who are far too
busylazy to even come and get their groceries from within the store’FIFY
Chicken thighs, Mr. Richie Rich. We’re cooking up buzzard thighs. They’re a little gamey and a little gristly but not bad with some hot sauce.
We got 40 lbs at the Chef Store for $1.20 a lbs.
Looking for similar deals to fill our new freezer.
I am thankful every day that I got an elk this year. Got 60 pounds of burger in the freezer along with a bunch of steaks and stew meat. Got some deer meat from a coworker last week and made 10 pounds of jerky this weekend. Hopefully butcher a pig this winter from the Hoots.
‘Got some deer meat from a coworker’
Got to make more hunter friends. Had some in SoCal but yet to make any here. At least not good enough for putting the squeeze on them.
I do find it interesting, how you complain about the political talk on this site. But, every time you come on here to comment, you stir the political pot.
It’s pretty rare especially in the past year or so that I start a political post. I more so comment. I just thought this one was funny when he said it. I had to point out that everyone in here is now a Dem. lol.
Edge, that is the kind of stuff that Trump says that really pisses me off and it is SOO UNNECESSARY….Many middle class folks, including Republicans, continue to suffer from inflated prices…Yes, some prices for some things have come down, and I will credit Trump for that – but many, many prices remain at the Biden inflated cost. I would say things are slowly getting better but to say people should think that prices are still too high is just stupid, but that is what Trump does, he says stupid things.
Oh I agree, it’s obvious Trump was just Trump riffing off the cuff but damn he really says some dingus shit when he does that.
Gas is down to $2.46 in Eau Claire.
Last time it was this cheap, some orange guy was president.
Talk about a coincidence!!
It really is nice to see.
It’s nice to be able to actually fill my tank before the bank limit is reached. There was about 4 years there that I would have to run my card twice if I wanted to fill my tank.
I feel the same way about grocery shopping.
Roads should be fun, heading to Williston, long day today.
I was always impressed with how well NoDak drivers handled winter driving compared to the rest of the US states that the Army sent me to.
Experience would explain it, plus NDs relative lack of Morons.
This is how I imagine GF driving on a normal day.
Yep, what’s his motto? “Drive fast and take chances”
It would not be hump day without the soda slut
May day is complete.
‘May day’??
I kind of wish it was Thursday. I have grown to appreciate the Thursday night football game. I don’t actually watch the whole thing or anything like that, but I enjoy unwinding with it a bit before bed.
For me, this is Thursday.
I think you just have a secret man crush on Kirko…..
His agent should be in the hall of fame.
I enjoy it too, I don’t watch intently but have it on in the background while I do some work stuff or clean
Kiddo’s 5th grade concert is tomorrow night.
Don’t miss the big game on Friday.
