Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

Hump Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I’m gonna miss Florida. We couldn’t line up a charter yesterday, so kiddo and I may plan another trip some time soon specifically for deep sea fishing. Instead, we headed over to Cocoa Beach to hang out at the ocean and just enjoy the sun. Today, we fly back to balmy Bismarck ND, I’m told we “have to”, otherwise kiddo and I would stay indefinitely. Blech. Oh well, at least we have ice fishing back home, the ice should be nice & thick by now.

The Vikings go to New Jersey on Sunday to take on the Giants, I hope to see #9 and the rest of the offense continue the positive momentum that they’ve been building the last three weeks. I know that losing will give the team a better draft pick, but screw that, keep playing well and keep winning. I’m hoping for a 9-8 finish, I’ll never root for my team to lose. Build some confidence and make a run for the championship next year.

Speaking of draft picks, let’s take a poll.

Which positional group should the Vikings prioritize in the 2026 NFL draft?

  • Secondary (58%, 14 Votes)
  • Trenches (D-Line/O-Line) (29%, 7 Votes)
  • Linebacker (4%, 1 Votes)
  • Skill Position (WR, RB, TE) (4%, 1 Votes)
  • Something else (I have no idea what that would be, please specify in the comments) (4%, 1 Votes)
  • Quarterback (0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 24

Vikings and NFL News

Vikings.com takes a look at where the Vikings land in the various NFL power rankings.

Snoop Dogg will headline the halftime show for the Vikings-Lions Christmas day matchup, per Vikings.com. I’m cool with Snoop on the halftime show. I may actually watch it, which is unheard of for me. However, I HATE that the NFL forces players to play ANOTHER game on short rest, as it exposes players to injury. I’d do away with ALL Thursday games. It highlights the hypocrisy of the NFL, who say that they care about player safety. Forcing guys to play on 4 days rest, all for the sake of making the NFL more money, is just more proof that the NFL doesn’t give two s***s about player safety. Goodell is a demon, so are the owners.

Dolphins HC Mike McDaniels says that “everyting is on the table” when addressing whether Tua Tagovailoa may be benched, per NFL.com. LOL, does that include the HC position?

Trevon Diggs seems to be at odds with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones over his playing status, per CBS Sports. Hey, there’s likely a free spot in Minnesota available. C’mon over for the 2026 Super Bowl run, Mr. Diggs, your brother got his start here.

Media Selection

More great stuff from the fellas over at Forgotten History. Hey, if you have suggestions for the daily media selection, please let me know. I try to post thought-provoking pieces that aren’t politically slanted. If you have suggestions that you think would be better, I’m certainly open to listening.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
  • Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.

Good stuff IMO. That split field read based on the safety alignment cost RGIII his job back in the day. Gruden got sick of him consistently going to the wrong side of the field on the reads. Also he consistently took the wrong number of steps on his drops. That’s how Cousins became the starter.

We have a complex system of law and some of it is better than others.
But this murder thing – was thinking about the Reiners murders..
Hear his son did it and the defense is going to claim he’s crazy.
Well, this where I differ with the law. I don’t care if he is completely bat house crazy, if his did it, hang him.

They have video of him walking purposefully to their house after the party and before the killings. Didn’t look the shambling of a crazy person at all. They will claim ‘the drugs made him do it’, I heard that often from inmates in the prison. But that is self inflicted like alcoholism or obesity.

I’ve played through a torn labrum. You can definitely do it. Hurts like crazy when your arm is extended and pressure applied, but the pain eventually calms down.

Doesn’t heal on its own though. Needs surgery. 3-6 months recovery.

There is a May 2025 Crime Prevention Research Center study by John Lott, which analyzed FBI data from 2014-2024 and found armed civilians halted at least 36% of incidents overall—versus the FBI’s reported 3.7%—with the discrepancy rising to 48% in the last two years due to underreporting. Obviously the politics of this intone that the powers that be don’t want you to know that people with guns stop crime, and the only thing that stops a bad person with a gun, is a good person with a gun.

FBI Crime Data is worthless. So many areas don’t even report in to them and others like DC actively fudge their numbers.
Plus the whole reporting process was changed by the FJB Admin and a lot of agencies couldn’t figure out how to file a report. So the FBI pretended to ‘fill in the missing data’. All political BS.

In today’s Georgia Senate hearing Fani Willis testified she permitted special prosecutor Nathan Wade to bill 160 hours per week—exceeding 23 hours daily—for work on the Trump election interference case, an amount mathematically impossible given a week’s 168 total hours. BTW that’s $40K a week in earnings for Wade. Wade was paid over $650K to build a case against Trump.

Of course, she was also romantically involved with Wade.

Before you accuse critics of Islam of being “ignorant” or “Islamophobic,” here’s what John Quincy Adams, the 6th President of the United States, said nearly 200 years ago about Islam, the Quran, and Muhammad:

“The precept of the Koran is perpetual war against all who deny that Mahomet is the prophet of God. The vanquished may purchase their lives by the payment of tribute; the victorious may be appeased by a false and delusive promise of peace; and the faithful follower of the prophet may submit to the imperious necessities of defeat. But the command to propagate the Moslem creed by the sword is always obligatory when it can be made effective. The commands of the prophet may be performed alike by fraud or by force.”

The last few games of the season feature teams that have already been eliminated from the playoffs, or about to be eliminated, versus teams still in the hunt. Teams that have been eliminated are starting to shut guys down for the rest of the year, and still trying to be competitive enough that coaches and players remain with the team. It’s an interesting dynamic.

What we saw was he can hit wide open receivers when he is well protected, with open throwing lanes. That’s basically what any NFL QB can do. We also saw he can make layered throws, like the one to Hock, where he has to get the ball over a dropping linebacker, and in front of the safety. It was a really good throw, and a pro throw. He can also whistle the ball into a tight window with exceptional velocity. He can throw the ball with greater speed than most QB’s.

He can do the basics of QB play well. He can throw the ball. Right now he’s achieved the first level of QB play in the NFL in my mind. Level two is defensive knowledge, reads and progressions. Level three is decision making and processing.

Like he did with Darnold, KOC took the “adaptive” part of his adaptive route running scheme out of the equation. He simplified the offense dramatically. He also changed our basic formations dramatically. We were running 3 wides 70% of the time in weeks 1-12. The last two weeks we have been running multiple TE sets and also a FB to reduce what McCarthy has to work through, and offer far more protection. We’ve taken a lot off his plate, given him much easier concepts to execute, and a lot more protection.

NoDakRube
Reply to  Surly Viking

In addition to learning to read the defenses more quickly and more accurately (his biggest issue), he also needs to throw the ball more accurately. Every QB is going to miss throws, but his rate of bad misses has to be higher than average…I am sure there is some advanced metric out there.

NoDakRube
Reply to  NoDakRube
17 December 2025 1:57 pm

Oh I found it, the CPOE passing stat is likely the best advanced metric for measuring throwing accuracy.

JJ checks in as 2nd worst starter with a -6.4%, beating out only Sanders who has a -7.6%.

The good QBs Drake Maye and Purdy are in the +7 to +9 percent range.

JJ has to get much more accurate.

Does not mean he is the QBOTF yet. It shows progress, either because the coach simplified things, or decided to run the ball more, or JJ is starting to get just a little better at seeing NFL defenses and speed.

Could be a little bit of all those things.

I am very happy that he has shown improvement, but my enthusiasm is tempered because I have been a Vikings fan to long.

Last two weeks have been a step in the right direction. Next will be consistency, and also playing vs better defenses.

The last two weeks are what I wanted to see in October. Instead we got zombie Wentz, then crappy JJ.

I think Wentz was awesome considering his situation. Came in after all the preseason games were done, and in three weeks with no time with the ones, or really running the offense, he was thrust into the starting role. His first game he completed 70% of his passes with 2 TD’s and 129.8 passer rating. That’s off the charts good.

So as a QB, I played with bad ribs, a sprained knee, etc in my time. QB’s want to be out there, and play. They just do. But, trainers know when a QB is really busted up. Coaches do too. At the pro level, the medical staff know exactly what’s going on. They MRI everything. It was a conscious decision by the team to let Wentz take the field, knowing he was in a lot of pain, and significantly diminished physically. They did this so McCarthy could get three more days to “fully heal”. That really bugs me.

This is a bit speculative, as no deal has actually been made to move Rolls Royce out of Britain, to the U.S. yet, but it still illustrates how much Trump’s business friendly policies are working. European businesses are being harmed with high electricity costs, taxes, and net zero policies. This post warns of 40,000 lost jobs, based on recent reports linking high UK energy costs to green regulations. Trump killed all that shit.

The problem to me is about your stance is he does all this stupid shit posting and such… But these wins for his administration should be a bigger piece of the narrative. Like there are clear big wins and good things the administration has done but it gets overshadowed by his petty little ego shit posting and saying dumb shit off the cuff. Trump has FOR SURE done a lot of good with his business policies among many other things and for some reason he just chooses to keep shit posting and shit talking which outshines those things which is too bad but I guess he’s doing it to himself to a certain degree. The media doesn’t help but he keeps stoking the flames at time too lol.

Those are two different things though. I LOVED when that new Mayor from New York was with him and the media was asking if he still thinks Trump is a racist or whatever he called him while campaigning and Trump interrupted the political answer he was giving and just said, “No just tell them you still think I’m a racist (or whatever it was), it’s just easier that way.” Hahaha, that had me rolling, that’s great. Doing stuff like that is one thing. Saying unhinged bullshit is different.

He already dropped the price of eggs down dramatically. He’s working on beef prices now. The cost of a Thanksgiving dinner dropped from last year too. So I don’t know what you’re talking about JR.

Biden drove prices on everything in the economy through the roof. We’re seeing prices starting to come down. Gas is falling. That’s a real impact. Trump is also addressing energy costs because the green new deal screwed the energy sector by billions of dollars. Trump is increasing the power grid, to drive electricity costs down. He’s negotiating drug costs with big pharma and dropping them significantly too. Oh yeah, the FAA let our air travel infrastructure rot away with 1970’s technology they never upgraded. Gotta fix that too.

The man is working his ass off.

Here’s what I’m talking about and this is directly from Mrs JR – the shopper in the family. All paper products – toilet paper and paper towels are sky high. All home cleaning products are sky high. All fruits and veggies are sky high. All lunch type meats are sky high. All dental and hygiene products are sky high.
Six eggs a week hardly balances all that and most all meats are still sky high.
Now, we can afford it still, but we aren’t the average family and voter.
Energy – wait until all those A1 farms come on line.
You and i aren’t the average voter that will decide the midterms. And I’ve said this a few times here, this voter doesn’t care a lick about all Trump’s foreign policy accomplishments.

Nice play design here by KOC and well blocked. He puts the DE in conflict initially who has to take on both the QB and the RB in space, then he puts the DB in conflict with the TE and the RB in space. 2 on 1 conflicts are good play design. McCarthy has no pressure, and there is a lot of open space for the TE and RB to work in for a big gain.

SKOLOHOLICS PICK ‘EM AND SURVIVAL LEAGUE UPDATE #15

I managed to stop the yo-yoing this week and came in at a solid third. NoDak was the top scorer this week. Not only that, but he managed to close the gap on overall first place person, Manly Purple. NoDak gained 10 points on MP. He is now only 20 behind for the top spot overall. Plus, he forgot to pick the TB/Atl game, along with me. MP tied with me in third place this week. Surly got second.

Finishing out the overall rankings, JacksonVike and Kirko are still trying to get their heads above 1200 points. Then I am in a bit of a no-man’s-land in eightth place. 3-7 are tight. Only 18 points separate Surly, Let’s Fish, PA, DE and Lasallegrouse.

This week was oddly straightforward, yet a couple hinge games upset the applecart. Everyone got the Eagles, Jax, Houston, SF, Seattle and Pittsburg right. But there was only one game everyone got wrong: Carolina vs. NO. Otherwise, most of the games were fairly evenly split, except for a few crazy ones.

We had two absolute Genuis Picks, as in only one person picked right in the Baltimore and Washington games. PA got Baltimore and Surly got Washington. I get why everyone went with Cincy, except PA. It’s the Burrow factor. But what inside track did Surly have to pick Washington over the Giants, especially after the Vikes just killed Washington?

I think the FBI needs to investigate Surly for racketeering on that one.

We only had one Iconoclast Pick. PA took the Lions over the Rams. Man, the Lions have really fallen to earth. They must miss Johnson.

No change in Survival. PA and Manly both have one strike.

GET YOUR PICKS IN BEFORE THE THURSDAY NIGHT GAME!
