Just got back from a grocery run a Walmart.

Several things that we normally get were cheaper than we are used to. Canned corn was down to .67c a can, large container of Hot Chocolate was down to $5.34, Chocolate Chip Muffins down to $3.64 a four pack, and several others. Not sale prices either.

Hope that it is a trend that continues, nice to have a little ‘reverse sticker shock’.

FAFO Fani…

Trump filed a motion today, seeking over $6.2 million in attorney fees from Fulton County DA Fani Willis’ office, following the dismissal of the 2020 election interference RICO case under Georgia law allowing recovery for baseless prosecutions.

The case, indicted in August 2023, accused Trump and 18 co-defendants of racketeering to overturn election results; its dismissal stemmed from prosecutorial misconduct allegations, including Willis’ romantic relationship with a special prosecutor.

Baseless Prosecutions is right.
Especially since the Georgia Dept Elections has admitted they counted over 315,000 ballots that did not contain Poll Workers signatures in 2020 as required by Georgia Law. Trump lost Georgia by less than 12k votes.

So my wife was assigned a new client last week at the gym. Heavyset black woman. They have had 3 sessions, and my wife has not been happy, as the woman is very racially biased. Today, she apparently started cussing about getting reparations from white people. She was complaining loudly in the gym. My wife (who is of Mexican descent) politely asked the woman to tone down her voice as it was carrying throughout the gym, and clearly affecting other customers. She started on my wife then, calling her a white bitch, and she doesn’t get silenced by some white trash, etc.

My wife can curl 45 lb dumbbells and benches around 160 lbs. She was incensed to say the least, and told the woman firmly that she had to calm herself or leave. The woman got up in her face and pushed her, yelling more racial insults, not realizing my wife is actually a Latina. This really made my wife angry, and I think she was about to clean this gal’s clock when a large black body-builder named Mike stepped in and told the woman she had to leave or he was calling the cops. Mike is a former Marine, with real combat experience. He is as red blooded as they come, and the whole racial rant set him off. He read her the riot act on slavery and how Muslims were by far the worst of the worst when it came to enslaving people. My wife said he went on a pretty lengthy explanation of the subject, telling her as much as a third of the population of the ancient world was enslaved, including white people. He told her Aristotle considered it “natural” and Plato’s Republic was not only supported by, but founded on it. Slavery existed in India at the time of Buddha and in China as early as the 17th Century BC.

Now that my friends is why I love the Marines. They don’t take no shit from anybody, and they take care of business.

BTW the gym cancelled the woman’s membership.

My SIL is an ‘hardcore’ feminist and she has cowed my brother. She sees everything thru that lens without applying actual logic, just ‘woke logic’.
My Daughter once stated that she was also a ‘feminist’ and we had a long discussion on the topic. She now has backed away from that, she is somewhat liberal in her views but she just converted to Judaism so even that has been tempered a bit.

I think you are correct.
I am back and forth on Flores. Some very good QBs have destroyed his defenses over the years. Stafford comes to mind, and Josh Allen.

I would really prefer a strong enough front 4 that they can stifle the run and still get pressure on the QB without blitzing often. Like Seattle.

Our team does not have that talent yet.

Flores defenses are fun to watch, but man, when the wheels come off due to injuries or dearth of talent in a specific place, it is a train wreck.

I am so glad that I left the Minneapolis area years ago.
I used to enjoy going into Mpls and walking downtown, going to Vikings games, and visiting bars and restaurants. In September I took my mom to her childhood neighborhood (South Minneapolis) and we reminisced about her parents and growing up. It seemed safe enough and everything appeared small and old.

But Minnesota is now a total sh**show. I still have siblings who live in the suburbs. I couldn’t do it. I’d want to get the hell out of there. I know that outside of the cities Minnesota is a decent place, but people keep putting up with this garbage and voting in lunatics.

Im embarrassed to tell people I grew up there, but happy to say I left.
The only time I will likely be back is to visit mom and dad’s grave at Lakewood Cemetery.

To mayor Frey and Governor Walz…F**k off.

My wife will not leave. My options are an expensive divorce, or suck it up and grow old and die in a place I have grown to absolutely hate. Or I just move and stay married, but live elsewhere.

I could probably do that again. it just is either shitty level cold, or the snow is bad because it is too warm.

If you care to share, why does your wife refuse to leave (presumptively) MSP? Obviously I lived in Rochester, that is close to the cities but far enough away that I never felt unsafe in the parks or bike trails. Or you could live in Iowa, Dakotas, Wisconsin and still be close enough to visit family.

She is very attached to this house that we raised our children in. Her mom still lives in the house where my wife grew up. Her grandma lived to 102 living in the house where she had raised her family. To me it is just a building that is much larger than two people need. I would downsize today, but she will not.

We have about 7 years left before it is completely paid off. If I had made better financial decisions in the past, I would be looking for a condo in FL today. Instead I wait.

Our adult children also live in town. While I am not sure if we will ever become grandparents, that is the other issue.

meanwhile we both have siblings that live in AZ or FL.

I would not move to Rochester. If we are moving, I want to move to FL. I like the ocean and going on cruises and I like golfing. No taxes is a biggie for me as well.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. Funny how some spouses get attached to a house. I actually missed the home my wife and I bought after we got engaged, sold it when I started med school and used the profits to buy a mobile home, etc…now I look at the various places we lived as stepping stones to what we have now. I like how we have this place set up and of course I like having a few acres to do with as I like. Truth be told, my wife doesn’t like Glendive, it was her hometown but she found out as I did long before that you can’t go back, things always change. Hence the push to have me retire in about five years, then we could spend more time in temperate climes and I could do part time work for spending cash.

It still makes no sense to me. house is worth around 550k and the property taxes are above 7k. For that reason alone I would downsize. By the time I do finally retire, my taxes will be above 1k per month.

It is just a damned building. My guess is that since I moved 5 times before I was 11, I never really cared about the buildings. Home was where family is. Her family is much different.

Just keep in mind divorce is not the pathway to financial happiness.

I like to tell people all the time that my wife paved the way for my success in med school. That way I don’t get intrusive thoughts like gee I’d be happier with a high maintenance sporty newer model. Please no. Lately I’ve had the joy of my prostate pushing on my bladder, if I drink a lot of liquid quickly the detrusor reflex makes me dance, so my wife knows all about my having to find a bathroom if we are in public or whipping out my feller if we are walking or working outside around the place. A new model might struggle with that image. Reminds me, my best friend from med school and I were sitting outside the VRBO in Sedona, drinking a few alcoholic beverages, and the urge came fast, I said I’m just gonna pee in this bush (it was pitch dark on the street but we were in the front yard), and he was horrified. I went inside instead. Can tell I’m used to living in the country now.

Until my divorce my Ex spent my money like a Drunken Sailor and when it ran short she borrowed from family or charged up Credit Cards until we had to file bankruptcy.
I was financially much happier after my divorce. My biggest financial mistake was marrying the wrong woman.

I fully realize that it would be the stupidest decision ever, financially. Between alimony and the income difference I would be screwed.

I am just getting worn down by the arguing about the stupidest things ever. Trying therapy first. If that fails, I will be looking for studio apartments in FL soon.

I have never taken one step in Minnesota but grew up in Illinois and feel the same way as you. Chicago used to be one of the great cities in the world – now a complete shitshow. Downstate in the rural areas there are wonderful, salt of the earth people. And like you, I see the Illinois Governor and Chicago Mayor and wonder how could reasonable people elect guys like this.
I hardly ever mention my Illinois heritage to anyone,

They don’t, it is the lunatics that elect these people. The lunatics are running the asylum, nowadays.

Unfortunately then there must be more lunatics than same people in Illinois and Minnesota.
I for the time being tell people I’m from Northern Virginia but it’s going to hell too.

I used to take pride in being from MN, in the “MN nice” concept, in the beauty of the state, etc.

Now I don’t even mention that I’m from there if I don’t have to. It’s embarrassing.

The cities area (and even surrounding suburbs) look very different than they used to. It’s a weird feeling when I’m back in the state visiting family.

I honestly don’t even know how MN recovers.

Agreed, what a shit show.

I go back to visit family, luckily, they all live in the west-central farmlands. I can avoid the Twin Cities. It breaks my heart to watch a beautiful state fall apart.

speaking of minneapolis being a total poop show…

took the kids to a Twins game this year, there was a protest a couple hours before the game, we drove by an overturned car (so obviously a peaceful protest) and my kids were like what theeeeeeeeeee….

and i decided i won’t take my kids down there any other time that afternoon games.

it’s a total dumpster fire down there.

Same. I miss going to twins games with my daughter, but the Saints are less expensive and the stadium is in a slightly better area. I am not worried about having to kill someone to get home.

the laws of the road don’t apply to me when i’m in minneapolis at night time. i will blatantly go through red lights so long as to not come to a complete stop in that cesspool.

I remember my wife had an appointment for downtown Minneapolis during the Floyd riots. She is like, “Yeah, I made an appointment downtown Minneapolis Tuesday.”

“What!?” I ask.

“I made an appointment for downtown Minneapolis Tuesday.”

“Do you know what is going on in downtown Minneapolis?”

“No. What?” (She pays zero attention to the news.)

I just shake my head. “You aren’t going.”

“Yes I am.”

So…she went.

She is one of those fearless people. She don’t give an F about nuthin. She would just randomly go visit Gaza and come back home fine. Meanwhile, I will die just going to a random Wal-Mart or something…

I’m just glad I can say I’ve lived out west longer than I lived in Minnedishu now if it comes up that I lived there as a kid. I love my parents, but I have no desire to visit that shithole of a state.

The problem with the video clips I have seen (IMHO) is that they are ambiguous, show some LE officers trying to open a locked car door, vehicle trying to speed away, not clearly driving at LE, etc…therefore, this is another smoldering bin of garbage waiting to flare up as when George Floyd died.

FWIW I think anyone that drives into a nest of LE vehicles and LEO deployed on the ground is taking a grave risk, similar to walking by a buzzing hornet’s nest and lighting a firecracker. Well, I didn’t mean to incite hornet violence but now they are coming at me.

Neighbors who witnessed Wednesday’s fatal ICE shooting are describing what they saw.

Emily Heller told Minneapolis Public Radio that she saw a car, which appeared to be part of a protest against federal law enforcement operations, blocking traffic. The witness said she heard ICE agents telling the female driver to “get out of here.”

“She was trying to turn around, and the ICE agent was in front of her car, and he pulled out a gun and put it right in — like, his midriff was on her bumper — and he reached across the hood of the car and shot her in the face like three, four times,” Heller said.

She was an “Observer” attempting to catch ICE doing something bad for video clicks. Why she thought it would be a good idea to block traffic is beyond me.
I think the officer overreacted by shooting, but he was probably getting rammed. Intentional or not, does not matter. I think she was trying to drive away, after being the instigator by blocking traffic. Stupid.

I think Darwin Awards could use this.

I posted my take on this yesterday but it was late and down the thread so I will repost here.

It looked like she panicked.
She was virtue signaling by blocking the road, ICE told her to move, she refused so they went to move her. When an agent reached in the car to unlock the driver door she hit the gas. An other agent was standing in front, and he shot her.
She probably meant to drive away but in the one second the agent had he saw a SUV coming toward him. He had been injured in a similar pervious incident. Her wheels were initially were pointed straight and she turned to the right just as he fired. She might not have known the agent was in front of her when she hit the gas as she was focused on the agent trying to open her door.
I don’t think it was murder or domestic terrorism, more virtue signaling gone wrong. She FAFO the hard way.

Yes, I agree. Funny though, no less a source than FB, browsing the comments, you will see people interpret the video in vastly different ways. Much as people on here interpret things like the stars and vaccinations in very different ways.

I did watch a brief clip of the protesters in MSP this morning. Fortunately it is cold and slippery outside so they are having a hard time getting a good burning man rally going.

This is exactly as it looks. Good summary.

I just wish people weren’t so one-sided and anxious to be riled up these days that they refuse to see it objectively.

Honestly, this would never have happened if ICE wasn’t so vilified, so I blame the leftist politicians who pump out this rhetoric on the regular more than the agent or the driver.

I see it the same. First time I saw the video my focus was on the ICE at her door, never saw the guy in front of her until the vehicle turned more to the right. I don’t think she did either.

Honest question, since I have paid extremely little attention to the whole thing…..

Is it confirmed that she was intentionally blocking traffic, or was she in the process of turning around on an icy street?

It has been ‘unofficially confirmed’, she was spotted at multiple locations trying to interfere with ICE operations. I have not even heard her ‘wife’ deny that she was blocking traffic and she was filming the incident, lady just outside the SUV,

I worked second shift so walked around went to stores after midnight never had a problem wasn’t till I met someone from  Minneapolis later that he told me I was in a very bad area, I never noticed, could not pay me to live there now.
