Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
FTP! FTP! The next best thing to seeing the Vikings win is seeing the Packers lose, and the Packers choked badly on Saturday, blowing an 18 point lead in their glorious loss to the Bears. There is lots of chatter out there about the Packers potentially moving on from head coach Matt Lefleur, which is amazing considering these same journalists were enshrining him as the next Lombardi after he began his career in Green Bay with 3 consecutive 13-win seasons. It’s a lot of fun to watch. I was cheering hard for the Bears, which is a very rare occurence for me, usually only when the play the Packers, Eagles, or Saints. Speaking of which, it also warmed my heart to see the Eagles get beaten by the 49ers.
There were some good, close games, with lots of late-game excitement (I’m SURE the NFL did not have any influence on those games being close). All in all, a great weekend of football, one more game tonight as Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers travel to Houston to take on the Texans. As I write this, I am 100% on my pick ’em picks for the week, I’m hot on Surly’s heels and closing fast trying to overtake him for 2nd place in the league.
I also got my garage organized and mostly cleaned. I’m weird, it’s something that gives me great satisfaction and something I really enjoy doing.
Vikings and NFL News
From Vikings.com, Will Reichard was named 1st team All-Pro, and Andrew DePaola was named 2nd team All-Pro. Reichard is a beast.
From Yahoo Sports, Brian O’Neill may have been firing a shot across the bow at Christian Darrisaw in his exit interview.
The NFL handed out a fine to J.J. McCarthy for his dumb*** taunting incident in the season finale, per Sports Illustrated.
George Kittle suffered a torn achilles during the 49ers win over Philly yesterday, more from NFL.com. Big loss for the 49ers going into their divisional round game against the Seahawks next weekend.

This is an interesting one from The Why Files, we watched it yesterday morning.

Hock to 49ers this offseason??
After Kittle’s Achilles tear last weekend they only have 1 other TE on the roster and he caught a total of 11 passes in 2025.
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-tj-hockenson-trade-san-francisco-49ers-obvious
That game turned quick last night. The Texan’s defense looks very strong.
The Douche looked like an old man.
Wonder if his ego will allow him to retire after that Pick 6 to end his career.
I expect to see more ‘experts’ post ‘The Douche to Minn’ stories over the offseason.
He was cussing and cursing at his teammates after every bad play. I loved it
Well it sure couldn’t have been his fault.
He is, after all, is The Douche.
The Douche’s last ever pass is a pick 6.
*until JJ gets hurt week 1 and KOC gets desperate and calls him in off the couch.
I expect that the Vikings will sing a ‘half decent’ backup QB for that role.
Now once that veteran QB goes down, then yes, The Douche may be on speed dial.
Rodgers sitting the rest of the game out.
He can sit the rest of his life out.
Pick 6 The Douche.
Currently 17-32 for 146 yards an Int, four Sack including a Scoop and Score for a TD.
A fitting end for him.
Pick 6 off of Rodgers! Defense scores again!!!! 30-6 Texans. Missed the extra point.
24-6, I guess the Stealers didn’t except the ‘gift’ that Stroud was ‘giving them.
Down goes The Douche.
Turn out the lights… the party’s over… Texans up 24-6 with 3:38 left.
Texans defense absolutely smothering Rodgers tonight!
Texans defense does it again! Sack fumble returned for a TD! Texans up 17-6.
Stroud hits Kirk for 46 yards on 3rd and 15.
Rodgers gets sacked and fumbles. Recovered by the Steelers. 4th and 25… punt. Nice defense again.
Rodgers hits Thielen for 21 yards.
Stroud with two fumbled snaps, and an interception tonight already. He’s single-handedly giving the game away to the Steelers.
‘single-handedly giving the game away’
FYI, they are still beating those Stealers.
That defense is earning its pay tonight.
9-7 Texans at the half.
So far so good.
#nojinx
7-6 Texans
I was close?
I blame fat, stupid fingers.
Are we all in agreement that the best outcome tonight is The Douche going down hard?
On who?
You can ‘make him gag’ if you want, that isn’t really my thing.
Love this…
My wife just came in and asked me what the largest country in Africa was. I said Algeria. She said “crap” and walked back out.
I have no idea why she asked…
Given her response I would guess that she bet someone that you would not know the answer.
Turns out her girlfriend and her husband somehow were on this subject, and she was sure it was the Congo, and he said, no it’s Algiers. No idea what the context was beyond that. My wife had to tell her she was wrong.
I would have guessed Chad
Lots of folks would have guessed that I imagine, along with the DRC.
It needs to be pointed out….
Hebert is now 0 and 3 n playoff games.
I don’t care that he is playing behind a historically bad Oline.
Great QBs elevate the team around him.
It’s time for the Chargers to move on from Hebert.
They should trade him to the Vikings, that will show ’em.
Waiting for Wrenage…
lol, yeah he sucks because he played through a broken hand and was missing his two starting tackles and other olinemen, that’s funny, I bet you also enjoyed him getting the shit beat out of him yesterday getting hit quite hard multiple times especially late, but yeah, they should move on, hopefully they do and he comes to Minnesota
Hebert is an absolute stud…I think he is likely one of the top 3 QBs in the league…just pointing out that you can’t dismiss a QB because he is ofer in the playoffs.
I know, but some people actually do denigrate because of the playoff losses, like a couple of years ago when they were up like 4 tds and lost it was somehow his fault
Harbaugh knows Hebert is a stud. This offseason the Chargers will do what they need to do personnel wise, and I expect them to be back in the playoffs next year. Vrabel has done a great job turning New England around, and guess what? They’ll be back in the playoffs next year too.
Tennessee is one of the worst franchises in the NFL, their ownership is terrible
Yep… agree.
Been out but just got a chance to read posts about losing or not. Must say, I’m in the camp losing is for losers and all that comes with it.
Slight change of subject, really appreciated the playoff games this weekend – overall, very good football.
But one thing is evident, you have to have good QB play to be competitive. Thought maybe Young was the ‘least good’, but still played OK.
Moral – we ain’t doing squat until we get the QB position squared away. Also thought, would have liked to see our defense against some of those offenses. Perhaps homer thinking, but believe we would have more than held our own.
Regarding the mythological words up top, reports are the FTP want lafluer back, also, their kicker left 7 points on the field, not exactly ideal
Will the thrill deserves to be all pro
O’Neill absolutely took a shot at darrisaw, and deservedly so, it was weird how he’d play a game miss a game, play on a snap count, take himself out.
for the second time in the last few years an opponent literally uttered the words “fuck the packers” after beating them in the playoffs, most recently Ben Johnson (I really like that guy) but previously Jimmy g did the same, the Vikings should maybe look into bringing him in as competition/backup to JJ
Jehoshaphat, King of Judah did this (II Chronicles 19:5-7). Our world would be wise to consider the words in verse 6 and 7:
5 Then he set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,
6 and said to the judges, “Take heed to what you are doing, for you do not judge for man but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment.
7 Now therefore, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, no partiality, nor taking of bribes.”
That is the New King James Version. I like the way the King James Version says, “nor respect of persons” (no partiality).
Jehoshaphat, now there’s a name that has been experiencing a resurgence lately in nurseries around the country.
I know right?
Judges today are driver by ‘fear of party’ and the Lord is even beyond a distant second
So this is what NFL OC’s do, and how they scheme up plays. It’s why in the NFL, the QB has to have a fast brain, and an accurate arm. The athletic ability to run around, and be a playmaker isn’t what is needed in the NFL, although fans think that is great QB play. It’s not. This is excellent QB play in the NFL. Most fans do not see this when watching a play, and they seriously cannot visualize it or understand what is happening.
Nice play design. Also helps when the LT doesn’t get called for his hold.
Isn’t that Trent Williams, they never call all Pos for holding.
Exactly
Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me, where is sanity?
Tax the rich, feed the poor
‘Til there are no rich no more
I’d love to change the world
But I don’t know what to do
So I’ll leave it up to you
Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding, economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money? No, not poor me
I’d love to change the world
But I don’t know what to do
So I’ll leave it up to you
Oh, yeah
World pollution, there’s no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war
I’d love to change the world
But I don’t know what to do
So I’ll leave it up to you
Great song written in 1971…
I’d Love to Change the world – 10 years after ,only song I know by them
Might be the only song anyone knows by them…
By who??
What song??
“I’d Love to Change the world” By the band 10 years after…
Hmmm LeSean McCoy is a former Eagles RB who one would think has some valid connections inside the organization…
I wish the Vikings could run a basic offense en route to two Super Bowl appearances and one victory.
If we could win a Superb Owl with a ‘basic offense’ like they did I would be all for it.
Lol
‘Hoosiers Bears’????
On the border of Illinois/Indiana (near Chicago), where you might be a fan of the Bears and the Hoosiers.
As the week begins, we are thankful for being upright and breathing and all our family and friends.
Remember to keep Madison in your prayers. She is fighting… let’s pitch in!
I commemorated the Vikings season in song. Sung to the tune of “Hotel California.”
Verse 1
On a salt-crusted highway,
Windchill freezing air,
Seven-dollar hot dogs,
Or fifteen for a pair,
Pay your arm for a ticket,
And see a saddening sight,
Only three playoff wins in twenty years,
This Vikings team really bites…
Verse 2
There they stand in the doorway,
They hear the cash-ringing sales,
And they are thinking to themselves,
“Wow, these rubes sure do pay for fails,”
Now cue up the gjallarhorn,
And start up the “Skol” chant,
The Wilfs smile over the playing field,
And the Vikings get pantsed…
Chorus:
Welcome to the Minnesota Vikings,
Such a loser team (such a loser team)
Always off the beam…
Plenty of doom with the Minnesota Vikings,
Always have big goals (always have big goals)
But no Super Bowls…
Verse 3
JJ passes inaccurate,
He cannot layer them in,
He gets hurt walking to the locker room,
To the fans’ chagrin,
His mechanics are suspect,
Too much leg sweep,
He tries to get better,
While Darnold fans weep…
Verse 4
So, I called GM Kwesi,
“Please nail this draft,”
And he said, “Thank you for your helpful feedback,
But I’m completely daft…”
And still O’Connell is calling,
Lots of bad plays,
He won’t run when his quarterback can’t throw,
Or win playoff games…
Chorus:
Welcome to the Minnesota Vikings,
Such a loser team (such a loser team),
Always off the beam…
It’s always “next year” for the Minnesota Vikings,
Then they fail again (then they fail again)
Let’s see those pained grins…
Verse 5:
Participation trophies,
Packer fans laughing howls, and Fran said,
“Yeah, Bud never had us practice,
Before Super Bowls,”
And spread out in formation
J. Jefferson — the cash cow,
With no one to throw him a ball,
That he can’t catch anyhow!
Verse 6:
Last thing I remember, I was,
Crying on the floor,
The Vikings let me down again,
I can’t take it no more,
“Relax,” said the fan boys,
“They will be great next season,”
“We demand you believe it,
“Even though there’s no reason…”
Guitar Solo
Pretty impressive Wren… nicely done!
Yes, Nicely Done!!! Send it into KFAN!
the eagles AND packers are out?
i’m happy for the Patriots. I’d feel bad for their fan base to have to endure suffering for TOO long…
what 3 MAYBE 4 seasons of not great play before they are back in it and one of the best teams?
thankfully they didn’t have to endure crappy football for too long
Why not another?
It must very stressful to be a Bears fan. The games seem over at halftime, then they rally like crazy in the fourth quarter and win.
It seems most of the games were competitive. Why can’t the Vikings be competitive in the playoffs?
you have to be IN the playoffs in order to be competitive in the playoffs….
‘Why can’t the Vikings be competitive in the playoffs?’
Because the ‘script’ doesn’t include that??
Team needs to get young and hungry. Need a nice wholesale house cleaning. Would have been nice to finish 4-13, have about the #6 pick.
Hello? You play to win the game!
Once we were eliminated from the playoffs the smart play was to lose as many games as practical. Would have been hard to not beat the Giants and Commanders but winning five in a row to end the season did nothing but place the team in the “that close to the playoffs” seed for draft position. We don’t have the QBOTF on the roster, got the highest paid receiver on the team struggling to put up middle of the pack numbers, got more holes to fill than the Titanic, but great we get a participation trophy and another year of McPonder oops I mean McFragile™ and the second oldest roster in the league. Boy I am just so excited for 2026.
I disagree respectfully.
I can see your arguement intellectually but it is a ‘bridge too far’ for me.
That’s fair.
Losing is for losers
Remember when the Patriots went 2-8 to start the 2023 season and then came roaring back to finish 9-8?….oh wait, they didn’t they finished 4-13 bunch of losers. Thanks to that finish they got pole position on their QBOTF while we got the consolation prize. Like getting the metal submarine in the CrackerJack box versus the crappy pic of Abe Lincoln.
‘crappy pic of Abe Lincoln’
No such thing!! Abe Was The Man!!
Im with yuh on this one MT
“McPonder”…love it! Lol
I don’t want to cheer for a team that is tanking and trying to play “draft chess” instead of football. I have no respect for organizations that cheat fans who pay good money, and cheer for them with all their might on game day.
Gold star for you.
Hey he wears those star stickers with pride, SHOW HIM SOME RESPECT
That whole concept is what basically got Florez fired in Miami…there was pressure from the GM to tank down the stretch. He told them to pound sand……Organizations like that lose the respect of their players and fans in a hurry.
Well said.
The Vikings organization lost a lot of my respect this season. Boy, I can’t wait for them to take that into account and work hard to gain my respect next season. Maybe a Teams meeting with KOC and KAM with myself will be forthcoming? I’ll let you guys know.
You would add a dose of ‘Doom’ into their ‘Kum Ba Yah’ mindset. I would think they could use that since they don’t seem have much input to different opinions, at least in public.
It was a fun week of football with the college football playoff and the NFL playoffs. My daughter is not a football enthusiast, so when she wore all black to church on Sunday (at a church in Wisc) and her pastor asked if she was in mourning, she had no clue what he was talking about.
my two favorite Abe Lincoln quotes of all time…
“packer suck”
and
“if you are racist i will attack you with the north”
I brought up football (not even the Packers, just “football”) in conversation at church here in WI and everyone around who heard it audibly groaned.
BREAKING NEWS!!!
The American Medical Association announces official recognition of the new universal symbol for choking:
Definitely nice seeing an all time choke happen to some team other than the Vikings.
Especially nice to see it for FTP.
Vikings fans watching Drake Maye wondering “What if Kwesi was able to trade up to #3?”
Or maybe trade down for Bo Nix.
Not Sold on Bo Nix….but I could be wrong, I often am.
Or give JJ a second season, of playing time, to see how good/bad he really is before casting him aside.
I still have hope for JJ. The hope is more muted, but it’s still there. But you can see the obvious difference watching Maye conduct an offense and throw the ball (and scramble).
We need to draft a QBOTF. If we get another season of McFragile™ we need to have a plan for QB heading into 2027.
another season of mcfragile aka…..9ish games
There’s decent chance that he makes strides with his processing.
However, unless he gets a dose of what they gave Steve Rogers, we need that backup plan to be SOLID.
It’s not just his processing speed of an IBM 8088 chip, it’s the durability of a bandaid on Mama June’s buttock cleft. Stop me if you’ve heard this before, there will be reports of his working out with the receiver corps in the offseason, he’ll light it up in camp, he’ll play one incredible series in the preseason, and we’ll all be smiles and handshakes heading into week 1.
Maybe he should reallocate some of his meditation time to the gym……….
Does that mean one season (so about 4-7 games of actual non-injured playing time) or another 3 full football seasons to compile 17 games (1 “season”) of playing time? Genuinely asking – I assume if he spends most of next year injured again, he’s done.
Steelers are at home tonight, as division winners.
I still say the Houston defense will destroy A-aron. we will see.
It was a fun football weekend, except for the fact that the Vikings are not playing.
GM!
FTP!
Skol!
Houston’s defense is legit. Can’t count Rogers out, playoff experience will help.
I put 16 points on Houston, so you will make up some ground or pass me if the Steelers win. I think Houston has the best defense in the AFC and figure we could be watching the end of A Aron’s career tonight.
Going on Defense only, it should be Houston vs Seattle in the Super Bowl.
Actually do not think either team makes it though.
When the FTP blow an 18-point lead in the playoffs for a loss.
Good morning, SKOL!
