Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
The gear and hub is replaced on my pickup, it’s going strong again. Ready for another 280,000 miles……or more. Lots of (warranted) criticism of the NFL Hall of Fame selection committee regarding their vote to NOT select Bill Bilichick to the Hall on his first attempt. Hopefully it will force action to be taken, there is no logical reason to vote no.
Vikings and NFL News
Yahoo Sports reported that there was a schism inside the Vikings organization over the Sam Darnold decision at the end of last season. That seems obvious, letting the starting QB leave via free agency immediately after finishing a 14-3 season wouldn’t be a unanimous decision at the head table.
Yahoo Sports also stated that it would be stupid of the Vikings and KFAN to fire Paul Allen over his recent protester comment. Wow, I agree with Yahoo Sports twice in one day, I’m fairly certain that’s never happened before.
Sports Illustrated looks at what the Vikings would have sacrificed had they chosen to sign Darnold to a contract similar to the one he signed with Seattle.
Sports Illustrated looks at the vacant coaching positions the Vikings will need to fill this off-season.
There is widespread criticism around the sports world about Bilichick not being selected to the Hall of Fame on his first ballot. Fox Sports shares thoughts from CFB and former NFL staffers, NBC Sports shares comments from voters and NFL fans. Even President Donald Trump chimed in on the situation, per NBC Sports.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame released a statement regarding the 2026 draft class in response to the criticism over the Bilichick decision.
Eli Manning also missed the cut for the Hall of Fame in his second attempt, per CBS Sports. I’m a big fan of Eli Manning, he needs to be in the Hall, dude led his team to two Super Bowl wins, one of only 13 quarterbacks in NFL history to accomplish that feat.
The Chargers hired Chris O’Leary to be their new defensive coordinator, per NFL.com. O’Leary was previously Western Michigan’s defensive coordinator.
The New York Jets announced interview with five potential victims candidates to be the team’s next offensive coordinator, from NBC Sports.

Good morning and SKOL!
Right now it’s sunny and 45 degrees here. Supposed to get to a high of 68. That said, I’ve seen that we might be getting snow flurries this weekend.
They say we are going to get 60 year low temperatures this weekend. Should make for less crowded golf courses.
That’s funny. We’re supposed to be in the 50s and almost 60 all weekend here. No ice fishing this year for me it would appear.
Anti-ICE protesters disrupted a Jewish synagogue service in Minnesota today. Same M.O. as the January 18 incident at Cities Church in St. Paul where activists stormed the sanctuary to protest a pastor’s ICE ties, leading to three federal arrests.
This is gonna end up with people getting killed, because folks are getting sick of not being protected by law enforcement.
A lot of churches have armed guards/parisheners during services these days.
Recipe for some ugly results.
Hmmmm… look where we are…

Does this mean we should dump/trade draft choices more and use FA’s and players traded to us more.
I think it means compared to the rest of the league, our GM is almost the worst at drafting.
Would it be more on Slick Rick or KAM?
If they mean ‘started games since 2022 by players we drafted” or ‘games started by players that were drafted since 2022’.
For instance…
Well, two died within like two years of being drafted
That and just add UDFAs, we don’t seem to suck at those.
These statistics are influenced by # of draft picks you had. They should be standardized to a “per draft pick” metric.
But teams have the ability to control how many draft picks they have, so the measure stands. Each team has 7 draft picks allocated per year. There are ways to increase that number, by trading down, trading players, and getting comp picks. If a team trades away picks, and diminishes their chances, that is a valid part of the end equation result. The Packers have clearly and definitively done better with managing their draft picks and selecting players than anyone else in the league.
Hello all…..
Saw NDR’s response to my response to Freezey…..
Things have not changed much with Madison – she’s no longer under sedation but not communicating verbally. Been able to move her hands and kick her legs intermittently on command, but it’s a slow process. My sister has sent videos – which I’m not going to share as they’re hard to watch. Most of her head is shaven/shorn and she’s got scars and cuts and well…… you can imagine.
But she’s fighting. She’s cracked a smile a time or two – which is huge for morale. She’s fought off infection after infection.
More to come later on how we got here but it turns out that Madison’s boyfriend was driving the car and HE ran a light. Apparently said boyfriend had been explicitly told that he’s not allowed to drive this car….. and so had Madison. Boyfriend was also hospitalized with a banged up shoulder but as I understand it is out and will be charged in some form. This has caused tension between these families and this tension has boiled over in real time at the hospital. Hospital security and OPD put the stop on it pretty quick and cooler heads have prevailed, but you’d have to have a death wish to try and tangle with my brother in law right now – which is what ALMOST happened – more on that when I have the time.
Can’t say enough about the Omaha Police Department and in particular the officers that responded to the call – they’ve been by to visit every few days, bringing flowers, teddy bears and food for my brother in law. I’ve had my own issues with law enforcement over the years – but these flatfoots are stellar.
As always I, we, appreciate the prayers and well wishes from folks on here and everywhere else. It’s the kind thoughts and words from strangers that make me think the world hasn’t completely gone to dogshit……

SKOL Mjolnir. Thank you for the update. You might note that my brothers church, and my wife’s little prayer group ask me about Madison and if I have heard anything pretty routinely. The fact that she can respond to commands to move her limbs and crack a smile occasionally is heartening. I’ll pass that on, and also that she is still fighting. I think it goes without saying she has a lot of support.
Kudos too to the cops checking on her and bringing food etc. Folks need to hear about that kind of thing.
I do know that – and it’s appreciated. I don’t mean to leave anyone out – hard to keep track of who/where all the well wishes have come from. Tell the missus and your brother that it’s genuinely appreciated.
There are lots of others here: JRob, NDR, SoCal, Hun, Ben, FF, VP….. the list is endless and it’s appreciated from them as well. If I’ve forgotten you it’s not intentional. It’s because I smoke a lot of dope and have furiously pummeled several pairs of fists with my face over my lifetime, and that also effects my memory.
Not a religious man. Never have been. Considered myself a Lapses Catholic most of my life – but genuinely appreciate the power of prayer and kindness and its ability to bring communities together for a common cause.
You’re certainly welcome, and definitely this site is full of people sincerely invested in Madison’s health. Prayers are powerful. If nothing else though this situation serves to show how much people care. With all the bad stuff out there hurting our society, we have more good people than bad. That’s important to remember, and Madison actually helps us with that.
Will keep Madison and the entire family in my prayers. I simply an not smart enough to put together the right words that may help to alleviate in even a small way the burden you all are facing. But, I’m sure when Madison is able to smile once in a while, it warms everyone’s hearts. Let’s pray for more smiles and let that serve as a beginning to a full recovery.
God Bless your family!
I’d say you put those words together beautifully there JR.
Thank you. It is certainly a tough situation.
Hmmmm…
Joe Dimaggio once played almost an entire baseball season with a bone spur in his heel.
Ouch!
Ouch is right…
‘Josh says it was painful’
With enough of the right drug he wouldn’t have felt a thing.
Well then why didn’t McCarthy take that drug for 7 weeks?
He was busy meditating??
And a lot of good THAT did…
No way to know.
Who knows how bad/much worse it would have been if he hadn’t meditated.
And….
Walz is done with elections.
Welcome Amy Klobuchar as your new Governor.
He said he would never run for anything again. If Klobuchar is elected though, she could appoint him as a U.S. Senator.
You think a silly little statement would keep him from running? You act like Tampon has some moral fiber and would feel bad about lying.
A lot of talented RBs will hit the market
Nice. Some good names there.
Everyone said he was basically a coach in the QB room, lord knows he couldn’t play…
Kirkos soulmate.
Kirk to the Poopeaters??
Kind of surprised McCardell and McCown aren’t getting more looks for OC, especially Keenan.
I was kind of hoping we brought this guy in…
just stirring the pot…
Ummm… how to say nothing… while thinking you’re saying something… is he related to Kamala?
TLDR version. Hindsight is 20/20.
Spielman was the best at spewing lots of words but not actually saying anything
Don’t listen to your HC…
This is the way it is in society. This is where good order and discipline come into play. Strong leadership that men respect. Not abuse, but real strength. Palpable strength. Lombardi strength. Demand excellence, demand accountability, demand commitment. Establish the environment. Athletes want to win. They know that doesn’t come through passive engagement. It comes from hard word work, study, and practice. Entitlement is the antithesis of commitment.
Lol, this world has changed.
If I did that, my dad and mom would have kicked my a**.
Same thing for teachers these days, too. Parents and teachers used to work together, now parents often gang up on teachers with their child.
That was The Teachers reality, two Section 8 Housing complexes near her school made it so much worse.
Not the same here in Idaho, much more supportive parents. I suggested volunteering or working part time here but she has to much PTSD for that.
Haha seriously.
Minnesota Vikings continue to be linked to talented defender who would reshape Brian Flores’ defense
You know who else was about 5’10 180 pounds and played CB???
Antoine Winfield! If the kid as talent and grit don’t be scared away by his smallish size.
So you can’t find a CB/S who is 6′ and 190-200 lbs who has ‘talent and grit’?
The odds of their success would be much higher.
The NFL silly season has begun.
*Except in the red zone
one of my friends (he’s actually the father one of my friends) inherited some baseball cards a few years back. i have kept telling him to let me look at them and see if there is anything valuable.
he texted me 2 days ago saying he put them on facebook marketplace and has them for sale for $100. i said NO! let me look at them first OR i will buy them for $100 and take them, whatever you want.
He told me i could buy them for $100…..when i opened the case and saw a Mickey Mantle, i told him i won’t buy them, but instead i will sell them for him.
So far i have come across 7 Mickey Mantles, 6 Hank Aarons, 6 Willie Mays, 3 Roberto Clementes, and a handlful of other solid money gathering players (Sandy Koufax, Ernie Banks Rookie, Lou Brock rookie, Ricky Henderson rookie, Bob Gibson rookie etc)
I’m thinking about either sending a few out to get PSA graded, or selling as is, but individually. I’m guessing i can make around $3k on the 20-25 cards that are worth something.
Holee sheet batman.
That’s quite a collection right there.
Does he have one of Calvin Griffith?
it’s kind of funny the cards he has in this collection.
he has a Harmon Killebrew Auto, but it says “dave, best wishes” then the auto
haha i’m like dangit that could have actually been worth something
MT would have just thrown them in the trash like comic books
I will give you $101.
Definitely would look into the PSA grade – not sure what they’re charging for grading but you can factor that into the sale price if you happen to hit on a 9/10 Gem/Mint rating. I’ve only done shade-tree grading – I use an old jewelers eye and look for straight lines, smudges, blots, etc and then send off what I think is decent. It’s been years since I’ve sent cards off but a grade always helped sell the card.
yep, there are only 2 or 3 out of the stud cards, that are actually probably near mint. the rest would prbably only be 5 or 6 grades, but those still sell for a good amount for these guys.
You can’t just show up without giving a Madison update…I have been checking to see if I missed any, I don’t think I have….lost I saw she was still in a coma, doing o.k. but not great if I remember correctly.
I actually laughed pretty hard at this
From Sorbo no less!
He played linebacker at the U of M if I remember right.
Interesting.
I embarrassed myself in front of him once. He was nice about it. Seems like a good guy.
I recognize that name, he played Hercules on the Xena TV show.
My Niece was really into that show and I took her to a local Fan Convention shortly after her dad/my brother passed. I got to carry around the life sized cutout of Xena while she angled to a signature on it.
Sad times that I tried to make a least some fun (mostly distracting) for her.
He played Hercules on Hercules TV show, xena was a spinoff of it and he appeared a few times. Xena was hot and eventually married Ron Swanson.
I only know him from Xena, and I only know Xena due to my Niece and the situation around my brothers/her dads passing.
Decent Safety and LB Options if we could afford them. BFlo loves him some versatile players.

Malik Willis played well for GB overall.
He would be the Probably No, not bad, only 26 so not sure how much ‘Mentoring’ he would/could do. Not to mention the FTP stench on him, unsure of the cost which is always the issue.
The others are a no from me.
No no no
Finally……
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-republicans-push-election-overhaul-voter-id-mail-in-ballot-changes-ahead-midterms
Totally behind this. Hope it passes.
No chance. It’s racist to require ID or in person voting. Minority groups are too stupid to get an ID.
Yeah, the commentary from Dem politicians that this discriminates against people of color and women is bizarre. It is without any basis in reality, but here they are, spouting it loudly and proudly. It boggles my mind how anyone could hear this and not just go… that’s stupid.
Well, it’s tough for a lot of folks that live in nursing homes. (My wife works in healthcare)
Interesting thought. Do a lot of nursing home people have no id?
Yes, they can’t/don’t drive so they let their license expire. (Don’t ask me if they should be allowed to vote 😁)
I don’t have data on how many younger voters don’t drive either and therefore don’t have an ID. I know a couple friends whose kids live in major cities and don’t drive / don’t have IDs. But at least the youngins can get a govy sanctioned ID.
It’s deceptive to say “minorities” are less likely to have an ID. It’s the POOR that don’t have IDs. Many poor can’t afford a car so they don’t need a drivers license or they don’t have access to required documents. Minorities tend to be a large portion of the poor.
How do the poor buy alcohol? Everyone has access to an ID. Birth certificate, social security number? Even the poor have those to get an ID.
Shhhh.
You are not supporting the narrative with this take.
All states offer a non-driving id.
This sounds like the Real ID fiasco. People had over 15 years to get one. Quit whining
Watched some news this morning.
Will just say Tom Homan can be in my foxhole anytime.
What a solid citizen.
Amen
This is great… probably have to click on it to see the full list.
Truly and outstanding list!
No where near complete but all are accurate none the less.
Maybe all the ICE oppression will get Minnesota a trophy finally. The NFL is most definitely rigged.
‘Maybe all the ICE oppression will get Minnesota a trophy finally’.
Doubt it will be enough for the Vikings to get the trophy this year.
Next year after the mid-terms it will be old news probably.
Yeah, if Saint Floyd wasn’t enough, I’m not sure what it will take.
If it’s rigged, why the hell aren’t the Vikings in the Super Bowl?
Every damn year !!
The Vikings are the greatest woke PR machine the NFL has.

Mornin… regarding the NFL Hall of Fame… I have always thought it should be reserved for historic figures. Jim Brown for instance. Players that were truly larger than life.
It has been ‘watered down’ for awhile.
Personally I think Jim Marshal is a ‘Historic Figure’ and deserves to be in. Admittedly that might be my Lifetime Viking Fandom talking. Seems the majority of HOF voters do no agree.
The Super Bowl Trophy is named after Vince Lombardi who won TWO SB’s. Belichick has EIGHT Trophies.
That’s historic enough for me.
It was all Tom Brady (sarcasm)
I’m going to be difficult and not be on the Eli Manning bandwagon. I’m not sure he is Hall of Fame worthy.
He seems ‘borderline’ to me.
I am not going to get worked up about him either way.
Borderline to me too.
This is a great summary of how I feel as well
He’s not
One HOF voter explain his vote, said he didn’t vote ‘No’ on Belichick but could only vote for 3 people so he voted for 3 he felt deserved to be in that were running out of chances, Ken Anderson, Roger Craig and L.C. Greenwood.
He believe absolutely that Bill deserves to be in and will get in next year. Thought he had enough votes to get in this year so he voted for 3 other worthy senior players.

Dumb system then
Yes that is part of the problem.
Maybe not the biggest part but it certainly contributes to it.
