Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
I’m really glad to see KOC is not just handing the keys to McCarthy like they did last year. I have a feeling that KOC and KAM saw things quite differently when it came to McCarthy and many other personnel decisions. Based on what I saw before and what I’m seeing now, I think KAM over-ruled KOC quite often, which is insane considering KAM has almost zero knowledge on the actual game of football, you’d think he’d defer to the guys with the knowledge.
I’m glad we’re going into this draft with a different GM. The more I see, the more I realize KAM was not the right person for the job. I have much more confidence in our team’s ability to have a quality draft with the interim team in place. Before KAM, we had Rick, it’s been a long run of not-so-hot.
Vikings and NFL News
Vikings.com opened the Monday Morning Mailbag, they discuss the Vikings maintaining their core in early free agency and also the Kyler Murray signing.
From Sports Illustrated, KOC thinks Kyler Murray could be the team’s longer-term solution at QB. KOC informed Murray that he was the only QB available who wasn’t just a one-year band-aid.
Sports Illustrated also looks at four possible paths that J.J. McCarthy might follow.
Justin Fields traded to the Chiefs for a sixth-round pick, the Eagles re-signed Dallas Goedert, and more in the NFL news roundup from Yahoo Sports.
CBS Sports hands out NFL offseason team grades for the offseason thus far.
Lions CB Darius Slay announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 NFL seasons, per NFL.com.

Venezuela wins the Wold Baseball Classic 3-2.
The US loses the finals twice in a row.
If the US couldn’t win it I don’t mind Venezuela doing it, they have had it pretty rough lately.
Well, we have a punter now…
Hekker, 36, most recently spent the 2025 season with Tennessee. He played in all 17 games and punted 78 times for 3,653 total yards, averaging 40.3 net yards per boot. Hekker had seven touchbacks and landed 22 punts inside the 20-yard line.
He sounds decent.
Why did they let him go? He cost too much?? Boinking the Special Teams Coach???
Dunno, but if you had a choice on which team you wanted to play for, Titans or Vikings, you might choose the Vikings.
Wonnum to the Lions
Looks like Wednesday night football is on for 2026.
Opening night and Wed before Thanksgiving.
Just one week, right? Right??
Could the Vikings draft a QB?
Id say no, but it would create a schism.
Maybe with one of our 7th round picks, but probably and UDFA for a camp body and possible QB3.
Wouldnโt stun me if there is a QB around in the 5th round or later.
Not an early round guy, that’s for sure
This is great!
Trump today:
“Of the 56 signers of our Declaration of Independence, 11 were patriots with roots in Ireland. Back on July 4, 1776, it was a son of Ireland who printed that sacred document for the first time, and it was also an Irishman who first read its immortal words to the American public…”
I did not know this.
wait, so…..america is actually….ireland?!?!
“May the power of God preserve us. May the wisdom of God instruct us. May the hand of God protect us. May the way of God direct us. May the shield of God defend us. And may the host of God guard us.”

His is a fascinating story, It reads like an adventure novel.
Gonna have to read that. Thanks!
Fictionalized History, all the facts, told as a story..
Don’t think you will be disappointed.
I will check it out, thanks
I hope The Teacher got enough Shopping Therapy in today after her Dr appointment.
1st we stopped the ‘Super Albertsons’, The Chain started and it HQs here so they have a couple of very high end stores. We walked through one, impressive.
Next we went to Cost Plus World Market, I got 1 package of ‘Apple Fritter Coffee’ that was on sale, she managed to keep it to 1/2 cart.
Then we went to Trader Joes, again one item for me and 1/2 cart for her, not terrible.
Finally we stopped at a ‘Cupcake Store’. That was to spend her Christmas Gift Certificate on overpriced cupcakes, but it was a gift and it made her happy so I had no issue with it. A couple even sounded tasty.
So on the way home I stopped at ‘Bad Boy Burgers’, a local place that has some good food. I know this because a bunch of work trucks were parked outside of it. That was my reward for being a good service animal all morning.
Sounds like a pretty good day to me. After what the teacher endured, a little retail therapy is probably just what the doctor ordered. Good job!
I got over 5K steps just wandering around the stores. lol
What were you wondering about?
You need a refresh.
I did a ‘stealth edit’ about 10m ago.

When you drink vodka over ice, it can lead to kidney failure.
When you drink rum over ice, it can cause liver damage.
When you drink whiskey over ice, it can give you heart problems.
When you drink gin over ice, it can affect your brain.
From this, I can surmise only one thing…
๏ปฟ
Apparently, ice is very bad for you.
What about beer?
Now Ben, do you really drink beer over ice?
I have seen it done.
Seemed weird to me but then I am not a ‘beer guy’.
To be honest it was mostly GIs in Germany where they don’t keep their beer cold.
lol, no I donโt, but funny story, I was out with my wife at this bar downtown Minneapolis a few years ago and I ordered a beer, she ordered a cider, waitress asked if she wanted it over ice, wife said no, waitress replied itโs $2 more without ice, I asked why and she said because you get more without ice, you canโt make this shit up.
I usually order my drinks without ice, never had to pay extra from then though.
He’s in a more commie state than you, and I am including your time in California.
I say the same thing about pie.
creampie?
Banana Cream is good.
The Teacher prefers Chocolate Cream.
Found a Peach Cream last week that was even better.
Not falling for whatever sicko thing you are suggesting. grin
I recently switched phone providers, xfinity is my Internet provider and they have a promotion where if you have their Internet you can get cell phone service free for a year. I switched over but there was some sort of glitch for about a day where I couldnโt do text or phone calls, they got it fixed but it sucked as I was moving during this time and needed to be able to make calls. But for a year of free service I guess itโs worth it.
Free is my favorite price!!!
‘If it’s free then it’s for me!’
The word ‘POLITICS’ is derived from the word “poly’ meaning ‘many’ and the word ‘ticks’ meaning “blood sucking parasites”.
Kam’s first go around with the draft really wasn’t great. I liked Nailor though. I also thought Chandler had potential.
That draft was ass. Nailor was a good pick and good for him getting a good deal in Vegas, Chandler is a decent runner, canโt pass block for shit, And not a great pass catcher but can be useful in a limited role. Iโm a yuge gophers fan but even I knew otomewo was not worth drafting. Thereโs also the fact he got cents on the dollar to trade back from 12, passing over all pro Hamilton and ton Cine instead. He really did suck.
I remember folks telling me that KAM needed time to develop and learn. My comment back to them was, you don’t hire a CEO who has no experience running anything. That is exactly what we did. We hired a guy who had never run anything in his life.
Yeah I didnโt care for the hire to begin with, hoped he wouldnโt suck but was pretty sure he would.
Yep… same.
Good for Ty
Reagan was the best…
This what we should be teaching in our schools…
Nice… this is good news!
BTW, not only is the Allen offset confirmed, but the Vikings are also fully cleared on Javon Hargraveโs $4M guarantee now that heโs getting $13M in 2026 cash from Green Bay
Thatโs $12M total in future cap credits banked between the two of them. Good work there Brez.
Oh but in the fall last year you said the Vikings were going to be in cap hell and they would be in the negative for too long and wouldn’t be able to handle it? And I and several others said it literally was a non issue, and here it is, a non issue.
I stated the facts. They were $43M in the hole, and second worst in the NFL. Oh and that was in response to your post that said the Vikings were in “great shape” cap-wise going into this year. You misstated reality, I told the truth.
Bo Nix is smiling…
Basically a 1st and a 3rd for Waddle? Too much. Have never thought he was more than a WR2.
Basically a non dipshit version of Addison
Right now, the Vikings have made the Hitman a post 1 June cut decision, so we don’t really know whether he will keep playing. Josh Metellus, Jay Ward and Theo Jackson are the top safeties on the depth chart. The NFC North has offenses and QB’s who like to throw the ball deep. They aren’t dink and dunk West Coast offenses. So, we need another guy who can replicate what the Hitman did for many years. That is, see the play coming, and disrupt it, or stop it. He got his moniker because he was/is a willing tackler, who lined up at, or close to the line of scrimmage and bloodied the noses of the other teams players. Then he could drop deep and defend the back end of the defense too.
Some folks like Dillon Thieneman being drafted by the Vikings as a replacement for Smith. Some say he reminds them of Smith in the way he reads the QB and reacts in a flash. Some think Flores could line him up all over the formation and let him use his ball skills to garner an immense amount of takeaways. However… he’s not ever done that in his career, and I wonder if this is just a bunch of pre-draft hype. Smith is a one of a kind player. If you don’t see that animal instinct to hit other players hard, and stop the run, plus the ability to drop into coverage (from the line of scrimmage) and cover the deep third of the field, then the player isn’t going to be anything close to what the Hitman is.
Thieneman has decent size at 6′ and 206 lbs, and amazing speed, running a 4.35 forty, but he’s no Hitman IMO. Oh yeah, he’s no Kyle Hamilton either, who’s 6’4″ and hits like freight train.
I got up at 4 AM for work, and now they are making me sit through a 90-minute Zoom meeting. It’s like they are requiring me to fall asleep at this stage…
I don’t miss those days. I used to start my day with video meetings in Europe and the Middle East around 4 a.m. then move to CONUS at 7 a.m. then finish with meetings in the Pacific that started around 3 p.m. and in the case of Japan and Korea, took place around 7 p.m.
On the plus side, you did important things. That maybe fired up the little gray cells.
It did. My plate was always full, and every day there was some challenge to overcome. Usually dozens of challenges. It was a great job, but exhausting too. My wife would help by making me things to eat, bringing me coffee etc, when I was working late from home. I had a full suite of secure communications to allow me to work on most everything but the most highly classified stuff. I was actually one of the first people in the DoD to carry a secure cell phone.
Iv been getting up at 530am to go to the gym with my brother in Law on Tuesdays and Thursdays then go straight to work after. I feel great after but im a zombie by time 8pm rolls around. And I have to take edibles the night before or I wont fall asleep fast enough.
Morning workouts are the best. Working out in the evening is probably three times more difficult mentally for me.
working out anytime sucks
Speaking of 4 am we are dreading our upcoming flights down to JAX and then back from Charleston. Furking senators and members of congress can’t pay DHS/TSA. What a bunch of crap. I surely hope those same representatives are made to wait in the same long lines when they travel.
Was thinking maybe if Members of Congress shut down the government, they should receive NO pay, as well as their entire staff. Also, all the free perks, cars, cafeteria, haircuts, gym, should be shut off.
I’m hoping that all those CEO’s of the Airlines who vote Democrat, and donate millions to them, might be getting really tired of this shit, and start telling the Dems to stop shitting on their business, else they won’t be donating all that cash to them anymore.
I would hope all those people that “fly” on airplanes feel the same way.
Why vote for a bunch of jackasses that pull stunts like this.
Flying right now really looks like a shit show. It’s a damn shame that we have these rich pricks in congress that keep stalling on paying these folks that average around $40,000 a year.
The Dems objective is to make things in the country as terrible, violent, dysfunctional, and painful as possible, so they can then say to voters, look how horrible things are under Trump. It’s a strategy that has worked to overthrow Governments around the world for hundreds of years.
Yup, always the dems fault. You are so predictable.
After kissing my wife on the sofa she said “let’s take this upstairs”.
“Ok” I said, “You grab one end and I’ll grab the other”
The truth hurts sometimes…
Woke Logic does not equal logic.
Emotionally charged, irrational people have no business in leadership positions in our Government.
Anyone else having one of these sumbitches today?
Love those shakes. Been a long time. I’ll have to get one soon.
Hate those shakes…..no.
That green stuff probably causes kidney stones.
Edit…nearest McDonald’s is 50 miles away so no shakes for me.
“nearest McDonald’s 50 miles away”….probably a good thing.
Amen. We eat so much healthier now than when we had dozens of places to pick to eat at in Billings.
Nah, fake ass ice cream with radio active green dye…im good.
80 miles to micky D’s from the frozen northland that is Bottineau and the odds of the sum bitching machine working is about 28% anyway so a no for me.
Laughing…
Was that guy Joe Biden?
Pretty funny…work the click.
He is our new QB?
i see mt vikings qb of the future has some mental issues….
great pick, mt…
Just imagine how uplifted he will feel when he hoists the Lombardi.
The weather in Florida dropped from 88 to 52 like it saw a state trooper.
Yep, it is 35 degrees over here in the panhandle.
It’s currently 49 here in Tampa, but it was close to 40 I think overnight. Brrrrrrrr it’s cold!
One of my Grandfathers was Irish and often quoted a thought that till this day brings a smile to my face.
‘The reason the Lord invented alcohol was to keep the Irish from ruling the world.’
I feel this
I learned that you can pay them back when they are teenagers and want to sleep in late every day. ‘Revenge is a dish best served cold’.
Yeah, well then there are two little girls who will be getting woken up at 6 am every day during their teens, especially on the weekend.
My work here is done.

Ben:
(Or maybe this is more accurate for Ben?)
Kirko must be frustrated.
It’s the first time in a decade that he doesn’t have a high end fully guaranteed contract.
Happy Tuesday !
Doesnโt have a job let alone a high end contract, heโll get a job for sure though, either playing or in the media, heโs articulate, wholesome, and has a pretty good sense of humor
Well there are folks who say he’s “old” so he can retire if he wants. Personally, I think his agent will be telling all the contending teams, that if their starter goes down with an injury, he’s available. He doesn’t need a job, so he can just relax and wait and see what happens. You saw Philip Rivers return this year after 5 years out of the league. Sooner or later there’s going to be an opportunity, and teams know Cousins is competent, and reliable under center. But he’s not gonna play for a losing team. He’ll wait till he has a chance with a contender.
I think Pittsburgh makes sense, I think Rodgers will retire. They are about the only team left with a legit roster that needs a QB, unless like you said someone gets injured. I donโt think heโd ever go to a shithole like NYJ, or CLE
He has worked with the Brownies coach when they were both here hasn’t he?
He worked with stefanski, but the browns fired him, I donโt think heโs ever worked with monken
Ahhhh.
I didn’t care enough to remember that. Thanks.
Honestly… now that Mike Tomlin is gone, I think the Steelers might have a down year. Just my opinion.
I think theyโll be decent, good roster and McCarthy isnโt an inept head coach.
‘McCarthy isnโt an inept head coach’
He sure looked the part in Dallas.
He won quite a few games, but yeah, not exactly like GB, especially in the playoffs early in his career. Not elite but not totally incompetent.
Believe he usually articulates he follows Proverbs 3:5-6.
Yeah, I do not think he is concerned.
I think I have about 1% Irish in my DNA. I’m not wearing anything green today, so I’m sure the ladies at work will harass me about it.
The Teacher has all the Legging from being a 1st grade teacher so she is set.
I am thinking a have a green-ish shirt somewhere I can wear without being obvious.
That’s about my Irish genetic percentage as well.
I had red hair, so everyone assumed I was Irish.
For me, celebrating St. Patty’s day was like celebrating Christmas.
One of my great-great-great…etc..grandmothers was Aud the Deep-minded, Viking Queen of Dublin in the late 800’s. So i have that going for me.
Wifey has a town in Northern Ireland named for her family, Irvingstown. So yeah, green today, but not Eagles green. I have pride
I did the dna testing thing many years ago, results were about what I expected, predominately Scandinavian, then English/Irish and German/northern European/Israeli Jew. My dadโs fam history is Scandinavian, my moms was a combo of German and UK, grandpa immigrated from Germany and grandmas ancestors came over on the mayflower, which I already knew.
My dna testing was not surprising, I am 100% Klingon.
I usually get rid of ‘cling ons’ in the shower.

my grandmother on my fathers side was an illegitimate child sired by the Irish hired man that was working on the farm. That is a good enough reason to have a beer today.
Happy St Patrick’s Day and SKOL!
Hope everyone is safe from the severe wointery conditions.

All safe here, but sore from shoveling. My feet, calves, arms and shoulders all hurt. The township snowplow finally came by at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon. Then my wife and I had to go down and liberate our mailbox so our mailman could get to it today. At least the plow slowed down at the end of our driveway so he didn’t plug up the driveway again. Slowing down did kind of get him in trouble as when he started to go up the hill right past our driveway, his tires started to spin. He just dropped a bunch of sand, backed up to get a running start and powered up the hill.
I don’t miss the effects of snow. It’s beautiful to look at right after its fallen, and fun to play in, but yeah… then you have to deal with it. Using muscle groups you haven’t used in a long time.
Glad to hear you’re OK. Take a hot bath to relax some of those sore muscles, and drink a little Bourbon.
Good Morning All.
The Teacher has an early morning appointment with the Urologist to see what caused her kidney stone and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Then she needs some ‘shopping therapy’ at a few other stores, like Trader Joes.
Retail therapy is a real thing.
Hope the doctor figures out how to prevent future issues. As I said when you posted about her problem, I’ve never had the pleasure, but I’ve known plenty of people who have. It’s serious pain.
Best of luck!
She says it was worse than giving birth and since she has done that 3Xs I have to believe her. I hope/plan/expect not to do either of them.
That’s what I’ve heard. My wife had to go through this when she was in college. Said it was the worst pain she’s ever dealt with, ever.
Trader Joes rocks.
The Teacher loves it, she might take an hour or more to fill up her cart.
I might pick up 2 or 3 items and spend the rest of my time getting my steps in.
Itโs ass, bunch of dirty hippies selling granola and organic soda
Ben, this is America, you are entitled to your own wrong opinion.
My wife also loves Trader Joes, she is very much into organic foods when she can get them. My kids, on the other hand, love the enormous chocolate bars.
All I got was a jar of ‘corn salsa’ which is pretty tasty.
The Teacher got half a cart, nothing organic that I saw unless it was the ‘easter plants’ that she somehow thought she needed.
