Vikings News & Random Thoughts
Boring season now. In 126 days we can watch the first meaningless preseason Hall of Fame game. Until then, we can argue about who will start at QB(Murray) and what QB on the current roster, if any, is on the team in 2027. As long as it is not Kirko, I am good.
Went on a too-short cruise in the Bahamas, with a couple of days in Miami first. I have seen enough. While I would never want to live in Miami, Florida is much nicer than MN. Sad that I will not be back there until next March.

I corrected a comment Baldy made on twitter and he actually came back to me on it. He stated in a comment that Kubiak was the Raiders HC/OC but their OC is Andrew Janocko. They list Kubiak as the HC not HC/OC.
Now… here’s the kicker…
In 2015, Janocko was hired by the Minnesota Vikings as an offensive quality control coach under head coach Mike Zimmer, working in that role before shifting to an assistant offensive line coach under Tony Sparano in 2017.
Janocko was named a co-offensive line coach along Clancy Barone for the 2018 season, after the sudden death of Sparano. He was shifted back to the assistant offensive line coach in 2019 following the hire of Rick Dennison.
On January 27, 2020, Janocko was promoted to wide receivers coach.
On February 9, 2021, Janocko was promoted to quarterbacks coach, replacing Klint Kubiak, who was promoted to offensive coordinator.
Cousins will be working with folks who know him well.
Who is Baldy? Also, Klint is just as much the OC as KOC is, he’ll develop the game plan and call plays on Sundays (and Thursdays and Mondays and Saturdays if they make the playoffs). I’m personally not a fan of the HC calling plays no matter what side of the ball, always thought Zimmer should have have given it up and think KOC should as well, focus on being the HC, not a coordinator.
Brian Baldinger on the NFL Network.
We’ll see if Kubiak is the defacto OC. I think for a new head coach that’s not a really good plan. I would have tried to bring in some with a lot more experience to run the offense too. Rookie OC? Yeah that’s a disaster waiting to happen.
The NFL makes it official. They are 100% anti-Christian. Religious imagery or language that could be perceived as antithetical to the NFL’s stance on LGBTQIA+ & Pride is strictly prohibited.
Unconstitutional???
Seems fake.
Yeah… just checked into it… it’s fake… bother.
LOL….
Before you post it, maybe you should read the entire tweet to see that it’s fake?
Just a thought.
Should, usually do… didn’t this time. Double checked. Completely fine with it.
Carry on.
Holy shit, only 5 snaps from under center in over 1000 career snaps in his college career, he’ll need some time to adjust to the NFL.
Somewhat similar to Penix, and that’s why the Falcons created an offense run out the Pistol and the Shotgun and eschewed play action from under center. This, despite bringing in one of the best play action passers in the league. They paid Cousins $100M to run an offense designed for someone else. More and more teams are running Pistol offenses now though, so it may be the wave of the future. Leading up to the 2023 season, Sean McVay worked on this scheme for a year, and tried it out a little, then went back to running play action from under center. To me, a QB who can’t play from under center effectively is a no go. That’s just my opinion though.
Cousins talks to how reading coverages has changed a lot and how a QB has to process these days vs when he first came in. Mendoza will have the benefit of having this guy to follow.
MOAR COOKIES!
What kind? My personal favorites are snickerdoodles and also molasses cookies, chocolate chip are perfectly fine as well, sugar cookies are ass. If you’re going store bought El fudge sandwich cookies are elite.
Good old fashioned chocolate chip or peanut butter is my favorite.
I buy the tubs of Tollhouse dough and make 1/2 dozen to a dozen at time.
Just bought some Peanut Butter cookie from ALDI – they look pretty solid.
I also don’t care for sugar cookies but I’ll take them over oatmeal raisin – or I’ll pick out the raisins.
Chocolate chip for sure.
Extra chocolate chips.
Yeah, raisins are bullshit, don’t try to hide fruit in my dessert!
LOL
take your lol and…
Boom! Roasted!
20 mill a year seems about right for Kirko.
I said I would have been good with Kirk coming back to MN at that price.
One year only.
I will say I’m surprised here, but this is actually a smart move by the Raiders. I have always said that young QB’s come into the NFL very unprepared to play at the pro level. There is so much to learn, and understand, and there is so much expectation that these young guys fresh out of college will come in and be great right off the bat. Then they struggle, and suddenly it’s a bad situation for the team, and it just gets worse. I think Bryce Young and Trevor Lawrence are the prime examples of this. Whomever is the Raiders QBOTF they will benefit from Cousins veteran leadership and football acumen.
AND he is quite handsome as well!!!
I am surprised too, I don’t know why he would want to mess around with a shit team like the Raiders in a shit place like Vegas, that place doesn’t fit his persona.
A lot of bachelor parties in LV, I think guys go there to visit the many historic museums and take in the neo classical architecture.
If I knew what neo classical architecture was, I’m sure I would visit ASAP.
Unfortunately the architecture is obscured by the person but that is an example behind them.
She looks tired…
I’m more interested in the architecture of Salma Hayek
Well Klint Kubiak was his OC here one year, and maybe they had a good relationship. Maybe Cousins thinks he has the goods to get the job done as a head coach, and will turn the offense over to him.
I agree, a young QB would benefit from having Kirk around, especially since he knows Klint well from the three years they worked together including a year as OC.
I thought Vegas was a legit spot for Kirk based on need and opportunity but wasn’t sure he’d want to go to sin City. They’ve got some work to do on their offensive line, they’ve got a decent LT and signed Linderbaum, but they’ve got some decent draft capital to add more talent. Having Crosby back is big for their defense and they signed some other decent players on defense. I expect their young TE and RB to have good seasons next year but they lack a real #1 receiver.
Likely address WR in this draft.
Also wouldn’t surprise me if they end up with AJ Brown…..
Although A.J. Brown is a top shelf receiver, he has been a bit of a distraction to the Eagles away from the field throughout his time in Philadelphia, often expressing his issues with the role he has in the offense through social media or comments to reporters. While Brown’s play has almost always been elite enough to overshadow his theatrics, he’s found himself in headlines often for how he describes his play, the team’s play and how they can get better.
This outspoken approach, alienates teammates as well as coaches. Sometimes you have to shut up and color. Brown isn’t that type of guy. Any team that brings him in better have a plan to deal with this aspect of his personality.
I don’t disagree, he’s a typical WR that wants the damn ball, seems he and Hurts have not been on the same page for a couple of years. Some of Diggs, Thielen, and definitely Jefferson’s best years were with Kirk, I wonder if that is attractive to brown.
Been reading some articles claiming Hurts doesn’t run the offense very well. Doesn’t always take a chance with the ball, and changes the play a lot unnecessarily. Some think he’s just flat limited in what he can do, and teammates are starting to see it. Cousins has played in so many systems, with so many receivers, and he still puts up good numbers. Why? Because he has a fast brain and an accurate arm. If Cousins is throwing the ball to Brown… yeah, he’ll likely have a good year.
That would be interesting, not sure what browns contract looks like and how it would affect Vegas this year, but if they’re starting Kork it would make sense to go get him, they’d have a pretty decent trio at WR.
The Raiders won 3 games last year, so they have a long way to go. Also they play in a Division with three really good teams (Chiefs, Chargers, and Broncos) so they’re definitely up against it. Cousins made a lot of hay with his TE in 2016 (Jordan Reed) but since that season, no team he’s played for has ever strongly featured the TE in the offense. That never made sense to me. Maybe Kubiak will see this, and utilize Bowers a little more with Cousins. One thing is for sure. Sean McVay is the only OC Cousins ever had, that built the offense around what did best, in 2016. No other OC has done that. They all wanted him to play their way and he continually (pretty much every year) changed how he played to accommodate OC’s that were let go after one year. We’ll see if Kubiak has the chops to be a head coach, and if he builds the offense around Cousins, or like the Falcons did with Penix, builds the offense around their future QB. All the best to Cousins. Good dude, great QB.
Really smart move by the Raiders. Kirko a pretty good teammate as I understand. A bit nerdy, wholesome, quirky.
A lot like Mendoza in that regard. Kirk from the Midwest and Mendoza from Miami but aside from that, very similar in personality/vibe.
Unlikely to fill the void of his infamous ‘Lombardi Shelf’ but for a guy that wants to play it’s not the worst situation, it ain’t Cleveland..
Hi/Bye.
Thank Thor that we wont have to endure Kwerk in Purple and Gold again. One more bag from Vegas and then retirement and fading into obscurity and a bust in the Hall of “Meh”.
I hate to disappoint you, but he will sign one more contract to retire a Viking.
Hopefully it won’t cost much.
We’ll have to listen to the BS on how Minnesota was his true home, etc…..
LOL
Nah, his superficial ass could not care less about MN or the Vikings. If anything he will retire a Red Skin.
I don’t think he’ll fade into obscurity, I think there’s a job for him in the media after playing is over, say what you want about his play but he’s articulate, knowledgeable, and a handsome man. I respect him as a person, his values, his ability to communicate his football acumen, he’s a good dude and I hope the best for him.
He’s superficial and fake, if not eloquent with his words, ill give him that. But I see right through he’s public persona. He’d be fine as back ground noise on a football broadcast. Just leave the Vikings out of it.
I agree Ben…although I am glad he didn’t somehow end back up here…
While I agree that the Vikings need to draft a RB to replace Aaron Jones in 2027 I am not sure that Emmett Johnson is the right one.
Mike Washington Jr is my draft crush at RB as he is bigger, heavier and more athletic.
Seth Johnson is a great 2nd choice and can be had much later than either Washington or Emmett.
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-pre-nfl-draft-visit-warning-sign-aaron-jones
The other notre dame RB is pretty good as well
About the same size as Emmett, a little more athletic and would cost a 2nd round pick probably our #49.
Yeah I read he’s likely an early to mid 2nd round pick, despite all the fawning over love, he was never a true workhorse, they didn’t split Carrie’s evenly but prices got a lot of snaps as well.
I agree. I’d prefer Price over Johnson.
Appreciate what Emmitt did here in Lincoln and I’d be fine if Minny grabbed him as I’m certain we’ll be drafting at least one RB in this draft – but Price is the better prospect imo.
I’d be ok with Johnson in the mid rounds, I really wanted them to take Bucky Irving a couple years ago but the Vikings are allergic to drafting rodents.
A round 3 pick?
The Consensus Board I use at ProFootBallNetwork.com has Washington at #74, Emmett at #120 and Seth at #140ish.
I’m supposed to be working but I just stopped in to see what everybody was saying about Kirk signing with Vegas. It must be too early and everyone must still be sleeping
Smart move by the raiders. A mentor for the year
Get back to work book bitch
Kirk to Vegas
Probably a very good spot for him. Mendoza will have time to learn, and Kirko’s agent can buy another yacht.
Kirk’s agent deserves it considering what he’s gotten Kirk over the years in contracts, especially that last one
But we were told here that Kirk only wanted to win and so he would wait until a QB got hurt on a contender??
I guess being a 1 year mentor for a #1 overall draft pick on a perennial losing team is almost the same thing.
No word on how much he will be paid, the same vet minimum as The Midget??
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/raiders-kirk-cousins-fernando-mendoza/
Ehh, a lot of things are said here – some spot on and some far off.
Only difference is most admit when they are wrong and dont walk around like they know everything, while others, do.
Not sure who knows everything, but I’ll leave ‘judging others’ alone.
Its not a judgement, its an observation over time. And you know exactly who walks around here like they are the smartest guy in the room.
You guys are starting to hurt my feelings……
If it makes you feel better NoDak, I’ve never said that you know what you are talking about.
Well Played!!!
I’ve got your back.
I think he liked the idea of playing for Klint again, plus there weren’t many other opportunities out there, but yeah, I’d expect Mendoza sits for a year, he’s the best QB prospect in this draft but he’s not considered a generational talent ready to start and make an impact immediately. The raiders had tons of cap space and spent it, we’ll see if they did so wisely. I’m not sure how much the falcons are on the hook for, I think it’s mostly money already paid.
While Cousins had a 180m contract, wasnt he only gaurenteed 100?
Yeah. Poor guy.
Another $100 million guaranteed.
Time for a go fund me page.
Ahhh a slight aimed at me? How mature. That was my expectation, for sure. When one takes another’s perception as a fact, one has issues.
And really, why do care at all, where he goes and what he gets paid???
‘why do care at all, where he goes and what he gets paid???’
Probably for the same reasons that you do and quite a few other people on this site. He was part of the Vikings for a long time, he has been discussed Ad Nauseam. He is/was a very a very good QB and seemingly a very good person.
I actually don’t care though. I like Cousins, and I think he’s clearly one of the best QB’s in Vikings history. I have no emotional attachment to him at all though. Unlike some folks here who have immense mental and emotional issues when it comes to Cousins. They have their knickers in a twist every day here for him.
Just admit it when your wrong.
Rather than whining about people pointing out you were wrong.
Yore rong
You do understand your opinion of me doesn’t have any deleterious effect… right?
Kirko will not work for the Vet Minimum.
Id guess $10 to $15 million guaranteed
Making him the 3rd highest paid NFL player in history.
Ha! 20 million guaranteed…..YOU ARE WRONG!!!!
I’m just trying to get into the spirit of things…..
I don’t care what you think.
Yep. I was wrong.
Kirko knows money….
Laughing… he did a GREAT job highlighting your childish commentary. Put it right back in your face.
Ha, yup, somebody on here was sure he’d only play for a contender, but instead he literally signed with the worst team in the league.
Say it’s not so. We are all brilliant minds.
Can’t wait for his presser saying he wants to retire a Raider.
lol, this time it might actually be accurate
