Random Thoughts

6 weeks to the first NFL Preseason game of 2026. Should be plenty of news from training camps by then, so we will have a lot to argue about.

I still have not watched any soccer, but the reports of the rest of the world having fans show up and be treated decently is encouraging. The World Cup also shows that the NFL could and should have natural grass in all the stadiums. If the players were more important than making money, it would have already happened.

I miss the Burnsie press conferences post game. Man was as blunt as could be.

We all need to start tightening our belts. It’s been very very hot in Europe and hundreds are dying in the heat wave…since global warming is by and large a problem created by selfish Americans and their incessant burning of fossil fuels we should be on the hook for a fund paying to install air conditioners in every European home. Who’s with me? While we’re at it it’s time to pay reparations for slavery.

I liked NLNVF and his posts. I thought he brought value to the site. He did post A LOT, but then my wife talks a lot too. Many, many of his posts had no interest from me, so i ignored him. Like most of us, he could have been more open minded and “curious, not judgemental”, but hey, we all have quirks. But some of his posts were quite good….other not so much

I’m fine with whatever people post.
As long as you can accept debate if someone disagrees with your post. Thats my issue. He called me a liar several times and does the same to others.

So the last month or so I ignored most of his posts as well and did not engage.

But I’m one supposedly one of the childish mean ones.

Happy Friday everyone. Part of my day will be working on cleaning up in our shed in preparation for our 4th of July celebration. It seems like a lot of work. Most of the people that will come to the celebration will be old (or older) like me and my wife so the party will only last for about 3 hours before everyone starts leaving.

I agree, but we are getting a true starter for a potential starter and some picks. I see the pick swaps more than likely benefitting the Wolves. And who cares about the 2030 pick, I may not even be around by then.

JacksonVike
26 June 2026 6:17 am

Would the 1998 Vikings be as good offensively if Brad Johnson does not go down?

I don’t think so, Randall Cunningham fit that offense so well. Even though he was old he could still move and was a slight risk for running the ball.

Mjolnir
Reply to  JacksonVike
26 June 2026 6:34 am

Agree completely.

Cunningham had a much stronger arm, better deep ball (a perfect fit for a freak rookie that could blow by ANYONE at the time)

Cunningham also had familiarity with Carter – although I don’t know how friendly the two were, but they played well together.

Brad Johnson was very accurate, decent enough arm – but couldn’t drive the ball downfield like Randall. He was also a bit of a statue in the pocket whereas Randall, while definitely older, still provided the run threat you mentioned.

Case Keenum deserved way more credit than he got that season. He was a Teddy replacement in every way imaginable. Didn’t make many mistakes and kept the ball moving. Too bad everyone (offense, defense, st, coaches) shit the bed in the NFCCG.

Re: grass in an indoor stadium.

Seems gimmicky to me and a huge expense that is not environmentally friendly. You’re going to install massive grow lights, put in an elaborate irrigation system, heavy duty ventilation and then pull it all up when you have a concert every couple of weeks? Sounds like putting up a year round open air ice rink in Qatar.

Nor sure what the Re: is referring to (a post I missed in the last week?) but I know the NFL has played with the idea of having a single type of playing surface (thanks Bears!) so that it would be the same for everyone, (some what) eliminating one advantage for home teams. Players also prefer grass by a large margin as fewer and less serious injuries occur on grass. Just less convenient to manage. And, of couse, the Vikings would be screwed again.

Who is everyone’s favorite RB, aside form AP?

Robert Smith would be my favorite, dude had another gear. I can’t remember how many times a defender thought he took a good angle to catch Smith and just before they would get to him, he would hit that next gear and run away from them.

I’ll go Smith also. Foreman was before my time. Smith was something else when he hit that extra gear, almost a gallup style of running when full speed. Too bad he retired early in his career.

For some reason his running style made him look like he wasn’t running very fast, but that was deceptive because he could move and he had that extra gear.

Except for AP, “great” Viking RBs are few and far between. I hope that changes some year.

Last year, our ground game was elevated from poor to league average. Mason did a nice job, and our oline stepped up a bit too. I thought play calling was holding us back.

Smith was a solid back for 5-6 years for us. When will we have a feature back like him or AP again?

Smith would probably be my choice behind AP. Never saw Foreman play live – NFL films helps mitigate that a bit. Guy was clearly a helluva player.

Also appreciate a handful of retreads and 2nd tier guys that have come through Minnesota. Roger Craig, Amp Lee, Barry Word come to mind. All had moments.

Scottie Graham had a solid stretch for Minny – never fumbling while playing in purple.

Not really a RB as he played more as a WR/Returner (but took a ton of snaps at RB and QB in college) but also was a fan of David Palmer. Loved watching him at Alabama and was stoked as a teenager that Minnesota drafted him.
