Random Thoughts
6 weeks to the first NFL Preseason game of 2026. Should be plenty of news from training camps by then, so we will have a lot to argue about.
I still have not watched any soccer, but the reports of the rest of the world having fans show up and be treated decently is encouraging. The World Cup also shows that the NFL could and should have natural grass in all the stadiums. If the players were more important than making money, it would have already happened.
I miss the Burnsie press conferences post game. Man was as blunt as could be.

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
- Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.
The odds…..
Nice hawt taek here.
His numbers are down, but he is still on track for the record books.
I hope Skolly comes back.
Jefferson is going to leave because Kirko left.
😬
Will Skolly be back on the threads, if there is less political talk? I miss his hawt taeks and posting information right after someone else posts it.
I am sure the site will be busier once training camp starts.
Until then…
We all need to start tightening our belts. It’s been very very hot in Europe and hundreds are dying in the heat wave…since global warming is by and large a problem created by selfish Americans and their incessant burning of fossil fuels we should be on the hook for a fund paying to install air conditioners in every European home. Who’s with me? While we’re at it it’s time to pay reparations for slavery.
MT is missing NLNVF.
I guess I need to apologize for celebrating the civility around here.
There you go again taking shots at people, you big meanie.
Speaking of, what happened?
Long story, but NLNVF took a trip to DC to empty out a storage unit. A couple people commented on how civil things were around here with one “prolific poster” absent. That led to some back and forth with one guy (JRobert) and a few others, with most of us thrilled that there was no drama, no name calling, no instant insults.
JRobert took offense, accused me of being biased in calling people out, and said he would not return.
Have not heard from NLNVF or JRobert, and while it is sometimes sad when people stop posting, this is not one of those times. For me, at least. I am too old and cranky to babysit. I will add a couple of comments in a bit. Have to dig them up.
Here is my last post, injected into JRobert arguing with two others about NLNVF being absent, and having the gall to enjoy it
In reply to JRobert.
This is supposed to be a place where everyone is welcome.
That said, I did get tired of creating what became a personal blog for one user to re-post tweets, articles, and continue to tell the rest of us how wrong we are. My response, after trying to get him to stop insulting everyone that did not agree with him, was to stop posting daily threads.
I did not ban anyone (and I could have).
I did not ask anyone to leave (and I could have)
I did ask someone to “play nice”, and was rebutted or ignored by both you and NLNVF.
Here we are again.
I will post a “daily” thread tomorrow, and hope you guys can all play nice.
In the meantime, JRobert , you may question why the rest of the public here are mostly rejoicing that this place is and has been more civil, and you are the single person complaining about how your buddy was or is treated.
Maybe, just maybe, the rest of the world is not the problem.
I don’t remember him saying he wouldn’t be back. Must’ve missed something.
and…one more
I guess he took offense.
JRobert
And I just read your comment below personaloly attacking me. You want to drive me off to – OK, done.
While this is your domain and you can say and do as your place, I have mine.
I’d suggest you not think about retiring to Florida – we have too many wrong minded Northerners coming down already.

you are now the only one stirring the pot.
I hope you find the space you are looking for, where you can post whatever you like and nobody will disagree with you.
This “wrong minded” northerner will not miss you.

Seriously, doing this because I like football, and like helping out Brad.,
But… fuck this.
Not sure what thread that was from.
im over it though.
I deleted the last two threads. Since I was sick of the negativity. I am also over it.
Positive vibes
I liked NLNVF and his posts. I thought he brought value to the site. He did post A LOT, but then my wife talks a lot too. Many, many of his posts had no interest from me, so i ignored him. Like most of us, he could have been more open minded and “curious, not judgemental”, but hey, we all have quirks. But some of his posts were quite good….other not so much
I’m fine with whatever people post.
As long as you can accept debate if someone disagrees with your post. Thats my issue. He called me a liar several times and does the same to others.
So the last month or so I ignored most of his posts as well and did not engage.
But I’m one supposedly one of the childish mean ones.
I can see that. I know he did not like being challemged. Maybe he took it as a personal attack who knows? Anyway, you are not mean. Childish, maybe…..
Happy Friday everyone. Part of my day will be working on cleaning up in our shed in preparation for our 4th of July celebration. It seems like a lot of work. Most of the people that will come to the celebration will be old (or older) like me and my wife so the party will only last for about 3 hours before everyone starts leaving.
VP at his 4th o July party.
If I could only move that well.
T’wolves have been busy the last couple of days. Hopefully the changes help get over the hump.
Tough to see Naz traded. He was definitely a fan favorite.
I agree, but we are getting a true starter for a potential starter and some picks. I see the pick swaps more than likely benefitting the Wolves. And who cares about the 2030 pick, I may not even be around by then.
Not a fan of Ball, so now I have another reason to not watch basketball
I wasn’t a fan of LaMelo Ball, until I realized I am not a fan of Lamar Ball.
That could very well be the main issue.
Still, basketball for me can wait until the playoffs, then I will kind of pay attention to that and the NHL.
Something to watch until the next NFL season
Would the 1998 Vikings be as good offensively if Brad Johnson does not go down?
I don’t think so, Randall Cunningham fit that offense so well. Even though he was old he could still move and was a slight risk for running the ball.
Agree completely.
Cunningham had a much stronger arm, better deep ball (a perfect fit for a freak rookie that could blow by ANYONE at the time)
Cunningham also had familiarity with Carter – although I don’t know how friendly the two were, but they played well together.
Brad Johnson was very accurate, decent enough arm – but couldn’t drive the ball downfield like Randall. He was also a bit of a statue in the pocket whereas Randall, while definitely older, still provided the run threat you mentioned.
Interesting take. I was a Brad Johnson fan, but no question Cunningham fit that offense well and gave us a great season until Denny panicked.
Another case (and Case Keenum) of a backup QB taking the team to the NFCCG before the inevitable collapse.
Case Keenum deserved way more credit than he got that season. He was a Teddy replacement in every way imaginable. Didn’t make many mistakes and kept the ball moving. Too bad everyone (offense, defense, st, coaches) shit the bed in the NFCCG.
agreed, but after the first few games of the season, I expected failure.
Keenum never caught on as a starter, but that season gave him a much longer career
Happy Friday,
Skol

Go USA! I’d love if the loudmouth turks would be eliminated with 3 losses from this tournament.
I fear a one and done for USA after the way they lost.
I call it the Viking syndrome.
Disappointing result but a bunch of guys were making their first appearance.
That said we all knew the USMNT defense was going to be suspect.
Have a favorable draw for the next round.
The number of offsides was criminal. Have they been watching Vikings tape?
glad I did not waste time paying attention to soccer.
One disappointing sport is enough.
That game was the equivalent of a week 17 rest day. They won the bracket (as did Germany) and had zero to play for besides no injuries, no suspensions- check.
At least Addison wasn’t involved.

The remember me button on the sign in page still isn’t working.
Who are you again?
Wouldn’t that be great to have a remember me button in your head?
Yes!!!
Can confirm.
Re: grass in an indoor stadium.
Seems gimmicky to me and a huge expense that is not environmentally friendly. You’re going to install massive grow lights, put in an elaborate irrigation system, heavy duty ventilation and then pull it all up when you have a concert every couple of weeks? Sounds like putting up a year round open air ice rink in Qatar.
Dont hold it against the wealthy middle east rulers to do something like that. They literally built an in door year round ski resort in the desert.
yeah, I can see your point.
I would still prefer outdoor football on natural grass, but that ship has sailed.
the stadiums have to be first and foremost a good TV studio, and secondary is have the fans comfortable so they spend more money…
And able to be used as a multipurpose building since the locals end up footing part of the bill in one way or another.
The Cardinals just roll theirs outside.
Isn’t Busch stadium open air (source I watch almost zero major league baseball but think it was open air when the Jays played there and I watched highlights).
The Arizona Cardinals.
Aha. How cool is that!?!
I think the Raiders new stadium does too.
Confirmed
Nor sure what the Re: is referring to (a post I missed in the last week?) but I know the NFL has played with the idea of having a single type of playing surface (thanks Bears!) so that it would be the same for everyone, (some what) eliminating one advantage for home teams. Players also prefer grass by a large margin as fewer and less serious injuries occur on grass. Just less convenient to manage. And, of couse, the Vikings would be screwed again.
Dhahran Saudi Arabia large ice rink in kings mall you can watch all the ninja ladies skate around. Not outdoors but still waste of cash
Probably a good thing.
Clean house. Start fresh.
Lock the doors and forget you knew him.
good riddance

I don’t know anything about Grigson, but from this picture, he looks like he was groomed by Matt Millen.
Part of the Colts front office that drafted Luck but failed to build a team around him
Oh, so he had the #1 pick and picked the right guy so he was anointed a football genius. Then couldn’t figure out how to draft or sign guys after that.
I renewed the Survival League I’m the commissioner of yesterday, I’ll wait until August to post a link to join.
Same rules, two strikes and you’re out, no cost to join or play.

Who is everyone’s favorite RB, aside form AP?
Robert Smith would be my favorite, dude had another gear. I can’t remember how many times a defender thought he took a good angle to catch Smith and just before they would get to him, he would hit that next gear and run away from them.
Robert Smith and Chuck Foreman.
Two of my favorites to watch.
I like Darrin Nelson as well, but that drop in the NFCCG was rough, even with the pass being low.
Robert Smith and Nelson were both solid.
Smith
I’ll go Smith also. Foreman was before my time. Smith was something else when he hit that extra gear, almost a gallup style of running when full speed. Too bad he retired early in his career.
For some reason his running style made him look like he wasn’t running very fast, but that was deceptive because he could move and he had that extra gear.
Yup, long strides.
Except for AP, “great” Viking RBs are few and far between. I hope that changes some year.
Last year, our ground game was elevated from poor to league average. Mason did a nice job, and our oline stepped up a bit too. I thought play calling was holding us back.
Smith was a solid back for 5-6 years for us. When will we have a feature back like him or AP again?
Cook was pretty damn good there for a couple of years. I think the Vikings have typically had a pretty solid RB, especially in comparison to the rest of the league.
You are right Bow, i forget about Cook.
It’s crazy how quickly a person can forget about a player. He didn’t even come to mind until mentioned.
No super bowl, so he sucked
Chuck Foreman.
Ditto
Yeah, he was one of the first NFL RBs to be great at both running the ball and receiving. A great all purpose/dual threat RB. I loved his spin moves to avoid tackles.
Like other people, Foreman is the next best Viking RB.
Although the wizinator was entertaining.
Onterrio Smith for the win.
Leroy Hoard.
“Coach, if you need one yard, I’ll get you three yards. If you need five yards, I’ll get you three yards.”
I thought about Hoard, he was great at that 2-3 yard run.
So was Chester Taylor
He is up there on my list as well.
Smith would probably be my choice behind AP. Never saw Foreman play live – NFL films helps mitigate that a bit. Guy was clearly a helluva player.
Also appreciate a handful of retreads and 2nd tier guys that have come through Minnesota. Roger Craig, Amp Lee, Barry Word come to mind. All had moments.
Scottie Graham had a solid stretch for Minny – never fumbling while playing in purple.
Not really a RB as he played more as a WR/Returner (but took a ton of snaps at RB and QB in college) but also was a fan of David Palmer. Loved watching him at Alabama and was stoked as a teenager that Minnesota drafted him.
As far as retreads go, what are your thoughts on Herschel Walker?
I remember his first run for us he blasted off 50 yards or something like that even though he lost his shoe. It rapidly went down hill from there.
Yep.
First game vs FTP and I was convinced the team was gonna win it all.
Just another false hope.
I was fairly young and definitely new to Vikings fandom, at the time of the trade. I was excited because two of my brothers are Cowboys fans and I thought we ruined their future. Boy was I wrong.
I didn’t like the trade at the time, seemed like a desperation move, but I hoped the brain trust knew what they were doing. Boy was I also wrong.
I feel like the RB position was where we were lacking the most at the time. Like we were A Herschel Walker away from winning it all.
Same here.
I think the Walker trade is the most embarrassing thing in franchise history.
It beats the love boat by a mile.
Michael Bennet was another one, but I think I remember him having fumble issues.
I completely forgot about Michael Bennet. He was good for a short time.
Latavius Murray was decent for the short time he was a Viking.
Yeah, it seems like we’ve had a few that were good for short times 2-4 years, but never had that special one that had a 8-10 year career.
