Vikings news

The Vikings have signed Jamal Adams, not sure what the means in terms of Harrison Smith coming back, Adams has predominately played LB the last couple years and was never particularly great in coverage but Flores must think there’s a way he can use him in his defense. We’ll see how it goes and if he makes the 53.

Veterans report today for camp, first open practice is August 1st.

Kody Clemens up in the bottom of the 9th, 2 strikes, two outs, bases loaded, down 3-0 and hits a walk off grand slam to get the Twinkies to .500 on the year.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not with the Trade Deadline coming up.

Sitting on the porch enjoying a glass of homemade blueberry wine, watching the hummingbirds recreate the scene from Independence Day when they send the fighters after the mother ship and all those aliens come swarming out and attacking.

Why can’t they just get along?

Just got suckered into clicking on some headlines posted in the past 2 hours saying that there were “new developments” and “concerning news” for JJM regarding the QB competition.

Speculation and Regurgitation, nothing new. They lied. Again.

PS I checked on the caged queen in the nuc hive last night. I know you guys could GAF and it is the hobby of weirdos but she had been caged for ten days and was probably debating her life choices. The hive was much calmer, nice susurration noises, foragers were coming and going. I decided to not suit up or smoke, put on magnifying glasses so I could really see the action. The bees clustered around her cage were in feeding posture, not stinging posture. The attendant bees that the queen raiser put in with her were all dead, presumptively from dehydration. Set her aside, double checked the nuc to make sure there was no queen in residence or eggs, opened up her little cage, and after a few seconds she walked out, immediately surrounded in a semicircle by a dozen workers, and they all stuck out their tongues to feed and water her. It really was cool to watch.

He does look stupid, I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes because…
-it is not a trial…there is no cross examination or legal decorum
-having been in non court room depositions and panel investigations into malpractice (radiologists are frequently pulled into malpractice cases even when they have done nothing wrong) it is not as easy as it looks on TV. Lawyers live in the courtroom environment. They understand the process much more than a layperson. They play games to try and get the defendant to perjure or incriminate themselves. I have been coached to keep my answers short and by the book, you do not offer up a “but if the right clinical question had been asked…” as that opens up a can of worms, no matter how the lawyer berates you, offers you a PB&J sandwich, compliments you on your outstanding knowledge base, etc.
Therefore, I wouldn’t fall into the trap of well gee I can tell them the day of the week if counsel had told me do not answer any questions.

peterplaysbass
Reply to  MT Viking
30 July 2026 10:45 am

That makes a lot of sense to me, but it’s effective politicking to have most Americans think “he can’t even answer a question about the color of his tie??”

peterplaysbass

Bears’ opponents are going to take ’em more seriously in the 4th quarter this season, right? Could not believe their luck last year.

KFEY93
Reply to  peterplaysbass
30 July 2026 9:23 am

Their turn over rate was unsustainable. It was very similar to the Vikings 2016 defense which did eventually fold down the stretch run that year. Its the one metric that NEVER carries over to the next year because they are luck based. I still think every NFCN team will be between 7-10 wins. Its gonna be ugly.

peterplaysbass
Reply to  KFEY93
30 July 2026 9:51 am

Turnover luck and close game W/L record seem to be among the most volatile stats (in that they nearly always regress to the mean after an anomalous run).

I still think that betting against the spread can be predictably profitable in the first 2 or 3 weeks of the season based on most bettors’ biases toward the previous season’s W/L records, especially when exacerbated by turnover luck or close game W/L well above or below .500

Also many bettors are undereducated on coaching changes and FA moves outside of the few flashy headlines.

Personally I think our HC is not playoff caliber. I want to see Flores move to HC, and have an OC and DC call the plays on the field and none of this HC/OC or HC/DC nonsense.

Personally for me this year is about defensive development.

QBOTF is NOT on the roster.

Draft Dante Moore, sign a vet, 2029-2030 the next cycle of playoff performances begins.

I get that it is an unpopular take…our true record was not 9-8 although I know many cling to it. Detroit wanted the 4 spot and GB nuff said.

Here’s my dose of cold hard reality:

  • playoff results have been ugly
  • LAR dictated the game from start to finish
  • Protection broke down
  • 3 and out after 3 and out
  • QB play has determined the offensive ceiling
  • JJM looks lost
  • once first read breaks down which only becomes more frequent later in the season when teams are fighting for seeding the offense looks like ass
  • TOP battles have completely exposed KOC’s weakness
  • he loves explosive passing plays
  • that means incompletion incompletion short gain or incompletion sack incompletion again and again y’all don’t see it
  • ergo defense is exhausted 70+ snaps per game
  • y’all don’t see it
  • opposition thus determines tempo
  • most repeated quote of the offseason “we will be more balance”
  • yet the run game could not perform (see OL struggles) so against elite defenses it is more of the shotgun, long developing routes and long third down plays that we have seen again and again and again (oops y’all don’t see it)
  • Flores defense is excellent, but elite QB’s
  • identify the blitz
  • get the ball out quick
  • exploit one on one coverage see TOP battle (y’all don’t see it)
  • this is why we need to generate pressure with four rushers. To date we have not.
  • against playoff teams defense 23 ppg. against non playoff team 15 ppg.

Bottom line the Vikings teams have not had elite trench performance on either side of the ball. Look at the contenders of the last decade. We are not there. I cannot see us matching up against Seattle in the NFCCG.

Sorry boys but that is reality not overreaction.

JJ. We drafted a QB in order to reap the benefits of the rookie deal. If you go with Murray, you disillusion JJ, and set yourself to to either:

1. Spend big on qb in 2027
2. Draft a new QBOTF after this srason
3. go with JJ after him sitting another year out

If all things are equal, I am going with JJ.
Reasons.

  1. Younger
  2. less expensive next season
  3. can see over some of the O linemen
  4. Has not been paid by a team to go away
  5. JJ has won a National Championship(college)
  6. Already familiar with the offense
  7. I have a JJ jersey

My wife bought me an AD jersey for Christmas, right before his discipline techniques came to light.

My wife also bought me a Teddy jersey for my birthday. My birthday is August 28, 2 days later, well yeah it was that year.

My wife is no longer allowed to buy me jerseys.

I don’t think there is, and I have stated on here several times.

JJ is going to be our QB1, he knows the system and from the sounds of it he has corrected his mechanics. That was his big draw back last year. Kyler is here as insurance in case JJ gets injured, which could very well happen. I have a feeling that KOC wants them both to play in preseason games to see if Kyler can learn the offense, without having to simplify it for him.

No

They use collaborative words to not hurt JJs feelings.

I still think JJ could become a very good QB in this league.

Murray, while an injury prone short guy, should easily win the “competition” and JJ/Wentz will be the backup this season. Probably need all 3 at some point.

Hoping for wins, expecting doom.

Yes, but

I think Murray was brought with the expectation he would win the job in camp to be QB1. He’s shown he can competently run a NFL offense, until he gets injured.

Although drafted by the Vikings, (but not the new GM) McCarthy has a higher bar to clear to win the job based on last years Ponder like performance. I’d like him to be the guy but he needs to grow up and maybe he doesn’t have the skills. I also expect him to get injured based on his history.

Hot take: The Vikings should have done more to more up to the third pick and draft Maye, including draft capital and a player if needed.

I believe the main speculation was the Vikings offered the Pats everything but the kitchen sink and they said no.

I don’t think there was much fuss about teams going after Kyler after his release. The word on the street was he grew up a Vikings fan. But, if he was not seeing much stir when he was released, maybe the Vikings were the only ones interested and he thought he would take a chance at beating out JJ.

LOL on flintstones bedrock city.
We took our kids on a trip to South Dakota around 2001. We hit every tourist trap. At the flintstones thing, the characters in costume were not only terrible, but after the show, as we were walking out to look at other “attractions” we see Barney Ruble take his costume head off and light up a cig.

We hit Reptile Gardens (decent), Both caves you mentioned(also cool) hit the badlands for a hike(my favorite), then hit wall drug. Also hit bear country and it is lame as you say. We hit Hot Springs. And of course Mount Rushmore and crazy horse.

We spent more on a 5 day trip in SD than we did the previous year in Disney world, including the airfare to Orlando.

Camping in Custer State park was fun when I did that, and just hiked a lot and walked around Deadwood. The rapid city tourist traps are just that.

Overall, they had a blast, and my wife and I decided at that moment to never again take the kids there or the Dells(did both that summer) and spend less to go to Disney.

Did 5 or 6 Disney trips and a couple cruises with them over the years. I think SD would have been better if my kids were more into nature and camping.

Funny though, my daughter is in Banff hiking now, and has a goal to hit all the national parks she can. She really enjoyed the badlands.

Interestingly enough we noticed a milk problem about six weeks ago. We buy a fair amount of milk for two people, we go through a gallon and a half or so of milk every week. We are not brand loyal, typically buy whatever has the best dates.

My wife alerted me to a carton that looked identical to the one above, well before its expiration date. The milk inside had a greyish look and was flocculated. Weird. I took pictures and sent an email to the company. They replied and asked for additional information, including the production number which is the 30-02 listed on the stamp. They thanked me for reporting and sent me some free product vouchers.

About two weeks later I happened to still be watching TV at 10 pm when the Billings 10:00 news came on. The lead article was a mysterious milk problem that was “only” reported in Yellowstone County (Billings) and that involved multiple brands of milk. Obviously caught my interest. Many had reported the problem to the MT Livestock Board, which I didn’t think to do myself.

They updated the story yesterday (actually unbeknownst beforehand to me or my wife my stepdaughter was featured in the broadcast) and it appears to all emanate from the same bottling plant in Billings. Hundreds of reports. The state is investigating and hopes to have an update today or tomorrow.

All my years drinking milk and I have never heard of such a thing.

I have seen that before, but I just moved on thinking I am never going to buy that milk. Why would the stocker even put it on the shelf.

I know somebody who works at that bottling plant. I’m going to have to ask him what he did to the milk.

Back in the day when I lived in the ‘dive before all those years of @excessive partying and boozing@ there was a strong rumor that the local Hardee’s had an employee pee in the pickle jar and do something even more disgusting with the mayo.

We got our milk from the neighbor down the road, put your money in the designated can and get the milk out of the bulk tank. We would shake ours before drinking it to disperse the cream. Probably too “dangerous” to drink fresh milk now.

Too quiet on here. Since NLNVF is not on, i will bring up golf!

Last friday i had the round of my life. 12 pars and 6 bogeys. 5 strokes better than my best on that course. I am waiting for Scottie to call me for a few tips

Nice!
Shot a 43 on the front 9 at Braemar Saturday, in the heat. Good round for me.
Favorite was on hole #1 I had a 46 foot putt for par after a terrible chip shot. Walked up “I can make this” and did.

Still had two three putts in the round, but that first hole was fun.
I also did not miss a fairway. strange round for me.

I’ve been shooting better the last few weeks.

87 the other day.

par 70. It is our senior league course, not real difficult. I play it every friday for last 3 years. Playing a course that regularly is worth a good 6 strokes.

I wish we had an executive type course for an old guy like me to play around here.

I guess I could play from the red tees, but I hate looking wimpy.

Well, it is not executive. From the senior tees it is 5450 yards. 5 par 3s, 3 par 5s

There is a lot less ‘disagreement’ around here lately, in fact a whole lot of less of anything around here lately. Sad.

Well, that’s an individual preference, I guess, but I was referring to the milk.

You wouldn’t think bees would be all that complicated. You have a hive, you take some honey, easy peasy. Nope.

he was traded for two first-round picks (among other compensation) to the. . .well, would you look at that. . .the Seattle Seahawks. Nolan Teasley was a part of the Seattle front office when that trade was made, so there’s your connection if you’re into looking for such things’

Not sure if Flo was looking at Adams or if our new GM decided that Adams needed a hand up at this point.

I agree, more competition doesn’t hurt. I haven’t seen any numbers yet, but I’m guessing that it’s a minimal contract. He was pretty good when he’s healthy, but age is creeping up on him. He might not even make the roster, but worth a look.

I saw Adam Thielen on the “NFL Live” show (ESPN) yesterday. He has become another NFL analyst. They showed a few of his career highlights and let him talk about the Viking’s QB battle. A new career for Adam. SKOL brother!

He said Murray has the inside track to be QB1, no big surprise. He also said that he loved playing alongside McCarthy. Loved his attitude and leadership. He is hoping that McCarthy fixes his issues and comes back with a strong career. He still has a lot of hope for McCarthy, but said Murray is definitely QB1 at this time.

I think the vets report today. Now the real battles for positions start. QB, WR3, C and defensive backfield will be interesting. And of course, the daily reports of how good EVERYONE looks.

I am hoping for a real good battle at QB to give us a lot of options.
