JJ McHospitalball has been a disaster/disappointment thus far. Loses a year to injury (unlikely that he would’ve played given Darnold’s resurgence, but still valuable experience lost to rehab time) Clearly unable to process and deliver at this level – watching him he always seems a tick behind, as if he’s made the right read, has no confidence in it, changes his mind and allows coverage to catch up.
Absolutely cannot layer a football to save his life. There’s no ‘dropping it in the bucket’ – he’s trying to put it thru the barn door, which incidentally is the catch radius needed when trying to track down one of McWhere’sitgonnagos fastballs.
And yet….. I think all the talk of trading him is just that, talk.
In KOC’s time here he’s had 2 years where he had consistent healthy QB play – he knows more than anyone how important depth at that position is. And I’d argue this iteration of Murray/Wentz/McStupidgamedaypersona is more talented and experienced than the Cousins/Dobbs/Mullens trio we saw a few years ago. I could be wrong, maybe McFirstread becomes a locker room distraction and they have to move on, but I’d bet good money he ends up starting a handful of games or more. Murray himself has an injury history and we have a history of trying to murder Carson Wentz. It could happen.
or it might not. I’m hoping our defense balls out and we get decent QB play – that gets us until the playoffs. One and done probably, but I’d still prefer a shot at playoff football.
I think a few months of him practicing against the top defense in the league will benefit him and JJ will earn the starting spot by the end of the year. But, I have been wrong about everything involving nein so far.

NO! Webb was a 2nd rounder…the correct comparison is Ponder vs JJ, and at this point I would say JJ is the most dissapointing.
When KOC turned Darnold’s career around, I thought maybe he is the QB whisperer. He doesn’t seem to be able to do anything with McCarthy though. Maybe McCarthy was just a bad pick. However, IMO that’s on KOC too.

Highly dependent on Kyler of course. And I could see with Carson playing even. But not with JJ.
It is, but im going just off historical precedence. If the passing offense (regardless of QB) can be between 15th-18th in the league and they can have an average run game, with a top 3 defense, that’s a 10 win average team and a play off team. I think all of those are realistic. Will they happen? No idea. But I think its plausible they can.
Kyler is a huge talent. Believe his first three years he was one or two all time for passing and rushing yards, and the only QB at the time with over 70 TD throws and 20 running. Immense talent.
Now, he’s had some injuries and there have been noted not studying hard enough issues.. So not sure where he is with all of that, but he is playing for a contract and should be very motivated.
If he does anything even close to his earlier performances, our offense will be a load for any defense. With a stout defense, let’s see how far we can go.
I am certainly hopeful. But our o-line always craps the bed and defense seems to give up 3rd and 12+’s consistently so I’m of the “wait and see” crowd before crowning us a playoff-caliber team.

I also have them penciled in for a Wild Card game. If the defense is solid and Murry can work a little magic, they can be okay.
I think Ben Johnson is the best coach in the division, so I’m looking at the Bears to win the division again.
Bears defense will be the death of them. Only thing they were good at were turn overs and that’s a luck stat and not sustainable, they also have the harder schedule. Offense will be good sure, but I see them regressing back between 7-9 wins. Will lose high scoring games imo.
I also see them worsening from last year. A lot of lucky wins last year – probably 3rd in division this year.
Agreed! I think it will be them and GB fighting for the bottom. But, like I said the bottom will be 7ish wins. No teams will be awful record wise. Just mediocre.
I keep saying I’m semi-retiring, but it just doesn’t feel like it. It is probably because I will still be working 1 day per week at my accounting job and I will continue to work on my bookstore and so it just doesn’t seem like a lot is changing. At least now my job with the most hours will be my bookstore and I will be the boss, so if I do a good job, I can tell myself, “Good job, take the afternoon off.” The only one that can contradict that order is the big, big boss, but she will be at work, so she won’t even know. And the only ones that could rat me out would be you guys and none of you would ever do that.

Your description sounds like a very nice semi-retirement to me.
I’m hoping so. My boss evidently wants me around for that one day per week because in addition to some actual duties, she has given me a mindless project to do for, in her words, job security. She is retiring in about 4 years and I will be leaving before then because I’m not going to go through another CFO change. Those can be a challenge. My wife will be retiring in 6 years and at that point I will probably wind down my bookstore to a very part time level.
I dont follow training camp much, but i like Turner is continuing his improvement. He looks like a great pick. Felton and Price are looking good for WR3, and i love Golday’s attitude.
These guys are not “dark horses”, but who do you guys think will be one of our “surprise” contributors this year?

I watched a podcast last night saying they’ll keep Hekker for his experience with being a holder, and he’s only making Punter $$.
Thorson can be added to the practice squad without taking up a spot, and keep working on his holding technique, take over when he’s consistent.
I hear good things about S Jacob Thomas.
I also think Golday will be good. He’s got that grit and just get it done way about him from what I’ve seen. Always around the play.
I had some hope for Claiborne, but he looks rather small out there on the field. He’s got speed for the open field, but someone gets a hand on him and the play is over.
If Felton can clean up the dropsies he should slide into that Jalen Nailor role that we exploit when Ds pay too much attention to JJ and Addison.
I didn’t get to see the game, just the highlights on YouTube, so I’m not getting the hype on Big Citrus – on the one running play where he was visible, he was being left behind like the bowl of macaroni salad that sat in the sun all day. In 2 games I haven’t heard them call his name for making a play, just being there. Anyone with better information?
Demming will be a stud in the coming years, hopefully he can sustain it for longer than Rhodes did.

I know he was the youngest QB taken, did not get many reps etc from missing his first season.
However, he has not improved as much as expected, and that is annoying.
I do think Murray will miss time this season with injuries, so we will get a look at JJ vs the real NFL competition, and if he has not improved since last season, I expect him to be gone. Probably the chargers, where he wins 5 super bowls.

That was a very disappointing outing for him on Saturday, so my hope is waning fast. I’m with Surly, in that “believes” is too strong of a word, but I still have a faint hope.
Maybe he needs more time in the oven, but I’m tired of that excuse to hang on to an unlikely stud for more time than a team should. Maybe he needs a change of scenery.
I told people here that he would highly likely be a big bust when we drafted him, but that I wanted him to succeed. But wanting him to succeed and reality are two different things. I was assured that I was wrong and torn apart for my lack of faith that he would be HOF in a few years. He’s still got time, I guess…. haha.
I want him to succeed. I look for the positive.
But I felt the same about Tarvaris Jackson, and Christian Ponder, and I’m starting to feel pretty shy about “high upside” QBs
Of the nine players drafted ahead of him, four are pro-bowlers…none have missed an entire season due to injury. Of the 252 players drafted after him, I bet quite a few would be of more value to the Vikings this season than he shall.
To think we were sitting 4-8 with five games left in the season and pissed away a top 10 draft pick. To those seeing a 9-8 or 10-7 finish I say…KOC will remain the coach (he should be gone for complete lack of coaching up for the big games) rather than Flores who is by far the best coach on the roster, the team will have a latter half draft pick, with no QB1 on the roster, we have a 27 year old star WR eating a significant cap hit that scored two td’s and barely scraped over the 1000 yard mark, offense that is unable to sustain drives when needed because the line is porous and prone to penalties, special teams that must rank in the top five of penalties called, and a defense that gets gassed game after game. These things must change. 9-8 or 10-7 means no delta. No thanks.
I agree with you wholeheartedly except had we had a better pick, we would have likely messed it up anyway. KOC sucks IMO for several reasons, but it annoys me that he lies all the time like “we’re going to run the ball more” every year but doesn’t happen, and “protecting” his young QB’s with coach speak all the time. Where are the Kirk haters calling him out for his political talk BS? Jefferson is way overpaid for his production on a team with no QB (with Kirk he was setting records, but we don’t want or need that anymore apparently). Team is trash for the foreseeable future.

I had football on in the background for a big chunk of the day yesterday. It seemed like everyone’s backups could actually play football except for our backups. I was very disappointed with McFragile. He was fighting for a job and he played poorly.

McPonder seems to have picked up he left off last year, late on throws, has a fastball and nothing else or overthrows his receivers.
Wentz has to be QB2 at this point, he’s nothing special but he can run the offense if asked.
It was very disheartening to see JJM make the same mistakes again and again….the same mistakes as last year. It’s almost as if he wasn’t working on his weaknesses at all.
He’s also got to know when his WRs aren’t 6’4″.
I was hoping an offseason that was injury free plus working with a QB coach would help him, it doesn’t look like it.

It is nice to have football back. I don’t mind watching some scrubs play a good portion of the game because it is at least football. What I really dislike is the constant interviews while the game is going on. Apparently I’m a grumpy old man.
Funny story about the movie grumpy old men, they actually filmed it up in Chisago City, where I used to work. Anyway, my maintenance manager had owned his own construction company for decades and working with me was his retirement job. Anyway, the producers of the movie needed snow for the scene where they drove to the wedding at the end, someone referred them to him and they asked how much it would be and he just threw out an extravagant number, I think like 20k and they were just like yeah sounds appropriate. He literally hauled in snow and lined the streets with it for that scene and it took him like a day and a half. Also, he made the best Swedish meatballs I’ve ever had, great dude.

I never played any until the 9th one in the mainline series came out this year, and I decided to give it a try. I really enjoyed it, and I’ve finished three other RE games since.
There’s a movie coming out next month (probably won’t be very good). It’s fun to discover franchises that have been around forever but that I’ve never actually waded into.

FWIW I’m 57, my wife would like me to retire at 62, and we are not sure I can pull it off. I enjoy what I do and we worked really hard to get here. Rads in general is causing burn out given ever escalating volumes and I’m not immune to stress. Maybe I’ll be ready in five years.
My college buddies from Canada have all retired for at least three years.
FWIW I’m 67 (yes I hear 6-7 a lot) and still working while drawing SS. I have kids at home, I’m hoping to retire in another 3 years, or maybe start a go-fund-me page. My youngest is 11 so I may still be working another 10 years…

I have it set to as aggressive as possible and shifted it to a Roth a few years ago. We have employer matching as well, I cant remember what percentage of my pay check im putting in each pay period. All I know is I am finally paying some things off and not living boarder line living pay check to pay check, I have some fun money and enough to start saving now after paying all the bills which hasn’t been the case in about 6 years so.

As I was driving in the rental car, some radio station had some slogan of peace and hope of the twin cities. Yeah….the peace and hope of burning down the community. Just ignore that part.
14 days until my semi-retirement. And after this week of doing the annual grant year end of a major grant, while teaching my replacement how to do it, I’m ready for the 14 days to go even quicker. The young lady I am teaching to be my replacement is good at her job, but the grant she is taking over is the second largest one our non-profit manages and with that can come some challenges.
