Happy Victory Monday, even if these victories seem disingenuous. I did not get to watch the second half of yesterdays game, I had supper with my brother and his family, for his birthday. I really don’t like the late afternoon games. It completely ruins my Sunday. As I said, I did not watch the second half of the game, I will probably watch it this afternoon. But, if it was anything like the first half, it may not be worth watching. My son’s friend commented, this is the worst 4-0 team ever, and I really can’t argue with him. Don’t get me wrong, our defense and ST is top of the line, but this offense is a very tough watch. It’s like watching a train knowing it is going to crash into a bus full of school children. It didn’t help we lost our left side of the offensive line yesterday either.

That was fast. NFL got something right……
Surprising it was that quick.
I figured there be a review period.
Not sure if they can appeal.
Yikes, that seems impossible. Did hell freeze over?
Going to really hurt our offense. Might drop to worst now…….
Can we become the 33rd worst offense in the league?
Anything is possible in Vikings lore I suppose.
If it’s possible, we’ll be the first to do it.
Sad but not unexpected after the reports on the game/injury.
Not sure who the back up is going forward. Hope CD is back there for the next game and the OL can take a breather over the Bye Week.
Feel bad for him. The young man was having a great season.
That’s just great, offensive line sucks worser
Good thing great Guards grow on trees. Oline won’t miss him much
T’wolves open their preseason tonight. Excited for the season to come, but disappointed having to have a streaming service to watch.
Here you go – https://v2.sportsurge.net/live-sports/#/streamlist/2638
Murray is very mobile when the play is designed for him to roll out or run, but he’s a horrible scrambler when the pocket breaks down.
A “mobile QB” like him shouldn’t be sacked 7 times in 2 1/8 games.
Agreed. It’s so frustrating watch him have 5 seconds to throw and then running right into a sack.
Agreed. Was saying so many times, throw the ball dude, either at a WR or out of bounds, if your clock hits 2.5-3 seconds, the line did their job and the rest is on you. He had lots of time to throw back there.
Miami ha zero sacks through 3 games before this week.
Some were Murray’s fault, some on the oline, a couple were failure from the RB to pickup the blitz. KOC has things to figure out.
Liiiiiiiiike “coaching”..
I’ve said many times he’s a good HC but needs to give up play calling and bring someone in to take it over
The Vikings are the 3rd team in the history of the NFL to go 4-0 and not score a touchdown in 2 of those wins. The 1st 2 times it happened was by the Chicago Cardinals in 1922 and 1923.
But that was before they invented the forward pass, right?
Probably.
We have been having problems with the concept of the forward pass ourselves this year.
Glad to see the team winning based almost solely on the defense, yet I still feel the defense is overrated. They have faced a terrible GB o-line with no run game, Chicago in the rain, TB (which had some big offensive plays) which is a winless team, and the now 0-4 Dolphins with a running QB and bad offense. I’m worried about the real games vs the Bills, 49ers, etc. I think we are going to get demolished in those.
We’ll see, but look at the rest of the defenses in the division.
Yeah, I don’t think our defense has been truly challenged yet.
We’ll have a better handle on it once we play some of the big boy teams.
I feel our Defense is legit, doing it without any help from the offense in impressive, keeping the Bores to 3pts at home, a week after they scored 59, was impressive despite the rain.
If we had a barely competent Offense none of our games would have been close, the Defense would not have to spend so much time on the field scratching and clawing to keep the game competitive.
The Offense improved marginally yesterday, low bar I admit. If they can continue to do that and reach average by the end of the season we might actually win a playoff game.
#nojinx
We will be the only team not to put up 400 yards of offense against the Lions terrible defense. I think they are going to cook us.
‘We will be the only team not to put up 400 yards of offense against the Lions terrible defense’
I was told that stats were for losers.
Hock thought so when he laid down in the 1 yard line to insure the win vs getting more stats for him and the team.
And me, although I sat him on my fantasy team cause Kyler wouldn’t throw to him, so of course he tears it up this week.
Even the Texas Longhorns could put up 400 yards against the Lions defense.
But would they win the game??
Which is more important-er??
HEAR YE HEAR YE
i refuse to apologize that the Vikings are 4-0…..
THAT BEING SAID….(as a major KOC bobo), i am realllllly hoping he starts showing why he should to be the headcoach, over Brian Flores. Because if we lose Flores and “offensive genius, qb whisperer” still hasn’t won a playoff game, I will be very disappointed. As of now, i’d pick Flores for headcoach and president of the US
In a perfect world, Koc would be our OC and Flores would be our head coach. But that’s just me.
the last play call was a GREAT play call. I don’t care if he scores there or gives himself up. The 4th quarter kyler looked ALOT better. I’d be happier if he threw the ball away vs take as many sacks as he has, but i’d rather a sack than an int.
Kyler has a LONG leash so get used to him…..but i’ll take 4th quarter and no turnovers Kyler all day.
fire Hekker
give Reichard a 20 year contract
jujuan jennings sucks as a viking
offensive line is complete trash AGAIN
metellus sucks
harrison smith is SLOW
dallas turner is a STUD
I don’t think KOC would be any better as solely the OC. I think he is better at the HC actually and needs to give up play calling.
I agree with this. His playcalling is his main issue probably.
I’ve been saying that for years
tl;dr
You need to use a gif
I question if Flores would be a successful HC. He’s a surefire GD defensive scheming guru, but is he anything more?
We still give up way too many catches 15-20 yards downfield, so he’s not a CB whisperer. Is it scheme, or is it the talent provided to him?
Making him HC does nothing to improve the offense, unless A) the issue is just KOC pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes, or B) his first act would be to make Teasley get a quality QB, and then you’d likely have to gut the defense to create enough capital to buy a QB, and we’d become a high-scoring team that can’t stop the other team from scoring.
What I WOULD do is pay him enough that he would be satisfied being our permanent DC, and work on finding his Offensive counterpart.
‘We still give up way too many catches 15-20 yards downfield, so he’s not a CB whisperer. Is it scheme, or is it the talent provided to him?’
It has to do with his ‘high risk-high reward’ scheme. When it works it overwhelms the QB/Offense. But occasionally it allows them to make a play since rushing extra DB/LBs leave the backfield vulnerable.
If you want to eliminate the ‘occasional’ long play then eliminate the extra rushers and play ‘Donatell’ type defense. I’ll pass on that option.
Could we improve that issue by acquiring CBs who can cover more effectively, or are they getting outnumbered by the receivers on routes
Flo wants players that play multiple roles, pass coverage, run support, pass rushing and so that is what he went out and got.
I default to ‘If it is stupid and it works then it is not stupid’. And 4-0 says that it works and therefore not stupid.
Offensive line was pretty good I thought, run game was going, with a RB thats not past his prime there were 2 runs that could have easily been housed by a faster back. And Kyler had 3+ seconds to stand back there and pass for a majority of the game, not every play, majority. The O line did their job despite injuries.
Oline was ass, penalties matter
I thinking from an actual pass and run blocking stand point. They did their job well enough. Penalties do matter, and that was sloppy, especially at home.
Repeated false starts at home is pathetic, especially after 20+yard completions, it’s like every time they came close to the red zone the oline was like, hey let’s screw this up
Wont argue that. Was frustrating in the first half for sure.
Love coming here to read some of the thoughtful comments.
Was particularly moved from Bow’s insightful and kind post late last Friday in response to learning of the passing of NLNVF’s sister.
If you missed it, suggest giving it a read.
Seem like the O-Line depth will be tested at least in the short term.
One more game and then the Bye Week will give them time to regain their health.
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-offensive-line-biggest-concern-entering-week-5
Hopefully those injuries aren’t season ending!
I think Darrisaw will be back, but I’m concerned about Jackson. Hopefully get more information today, but it seemed like he was moved to out for the game pretty quick. At least what I gathered listening to the radio while looking for speed goats.
That is how I read the situation as well.
Maybe we will get lucky with Jackson, I don’t know how deep our OL/Guards are.
Per the interweb, Jordan Mason is set to come back week 7 after the bye week. Hopefully he does not have any set backs. Jones is doing great but he can not keep up this workload and everyone else is just bad.
I was upset that they intentionally stopped short of the endzone to end the game with the O on the field. Part of me still thinks that a TD would be icing on the cake, and give the O a boost of confidence. They showed a good spark those last 2 drives, and I had every confidence in a win being ahead by 12.
OTOH, had he scored the TD, I would have been much more upset at the inevitable multi-game injury to a major defenseman that would have ensued. Because Vikings.
This is the correct assessment.
Hock explains his thinking on that play.
https://thevikingage.com/tj-hockenson-explains-unselfish-decision-guaranteed-minnesota-vikings-win
And 6 of those not Will points was a punt return!
So this seems fitting
I’ve been trying to figure out who 38/18 is since I saw this last night.
And whoever is on top of him – 56/?3
Yep
Crud, you beat me to it.
Well, it is offensive…..
That is an impressive factoid. I figured Zimmer would have led that easy. Sometimes I felt like Zimmer actually made the team try not to score TDs.
“Okay, we’ve got a field goal in our back pocket. Let’s not do anything crazy. Three FGs are worth more than a TD, after all.”
“Three FGs are worth more than a TD, after all.”
Math checks out.
Because Zimmer had Kirk…
Now it is fun to see how long the Vikes can over achieve. Can they stretch it to one more game? I have no idea…
Any updates on the injuries to Jackson and Darrisaw?
I added an article up top, CD is a concussion and Jackson is going to get imaging done today for his knee.
The Darrisaw one is weird to me. They cleared him of a concussion, sent him back in and now are claiming he got a concussion on a layer play. Something just doesn’t add up. They must have the same trainers as the Wild who send players onto the ice with skull fractures.
According to Ben Leber this morning, the first was a neck injury, they just added the concussion protocol because it’s SOP, and he cleared the protocol.
Second time he was assessed just because of concussion symptoms.
I get that, it’s just suspicious.
I’m not trying to blame anybody and concussions can be weird so he may have been acting perfectly fine and simply had a delayed reaction to a concussion. It’s just weird.

Imagine that, when KOC changed things on offense they actually started moving the ball.
They went to a more spread offense with quicker routes and easier reads in the 4th and they were moving the ball better.
That’s what happens when you tailor your offense to the skillset of the players you have and not force your players to change to suit your offense.
It also allowed Hock to come alive again.
Happy we’re 4-0, but it’s a pretty leery 4-0.
Give Reichard a couple of days off.
We all know his kicking streak is going to end.
Let’s hope it’s early in a game without the game on the line…..
Or just line him up for a 70 yard at the end of the half
Players are not allowed any days off ever for anything… You should know this! Forget rest, relaxation, rejuvenation…. everyone here seems to think the players should never have a day off during the week, but anyone with a job knows how important breaks are for the mind and body.
Will can have as many ays off as he wants. (Keyboar is ying. You’ll never guess which letter quit first).
Could be fluff under the key. Get out the air compressor.
I am getting used to these Victory Mondays.

Wedding in VT went well. Got 2 rounds of golf in up there. Good weather.
Got wifey home in time for her to watch the Giants. Enjoyed seeing the Eages and Kitties lose.
A good weekend
