Minnesota Vikings Discussion: Skoloholics 10/20/2026 – Daily Thread

Vikings-Colts

Happy Tuesday and welcome to Skoloholics. The San Francisco 49ers were able to hold off the Washington Commanders. I watched most of the first half and San Fran’s defense is really good. But, they did look beatable.

Looks like the Colts will be without star DB Sauce Gardener. He left Sunday’s game with a calf injury and is reported to be week to week.

All reports are saying that the Vikings will be active at the trade deadline. I could see picking up a guard or DB, but I don’t expect a lot of movement. Again, I am usually wrong, so take this with a grain of salt.

QOTD:
Did the Vikings give up on JJ McCarthy too soon?

Let us know in the comments.

All 4 of our injured starters are suppose to be ready and available for practice tomorrow.

Been busy training my replacement at work.
61 days to retirement.

Kirko had another 4th quarter game losing drive.

QOTD: They should have traded him when he had value.
Waited too long.

I wonder if Hurts can sue?
Seems odd that the NFL swept that under the rug quickly.

Congrats on the 61 days. I’m supposed to be semi-retired, but we had a grant review this week and we have our All Staff meeting, so I will have more hours this week than I’m supposed to have in my normal pay period.

QOTD: Yes, for trading him away. No, for having him start.

I still think it really came down to tension (some sort of personality or relationship clash) between him and KOC (or the OC).

Vikings currently only have between 4 and 5 million in cap space available.

Which one (or 2) of our higher-paid stars are we willing to deal away to make enough $$ to pay someone new?

I don’t see a major trade at the deadline. Maybe something minor but more likely keeping the cap space in hand in case there is an injury or some such.
5-0, defense is elite, offense is full of quality/high priced players that just need better QB play/better play calling to be successful.
I don’t see them messing with the defense, if it was not broken why fix it, and on the offense unless they can come up with a OC/OG upgrade I don’t see it.
So some major trade will have to shake up the current roster, I just don’t see it.

Who was the true OC on the team, I thought he just came off IR?

Edit – never mind. He was stinking it up in pre-season.

The cap is a myth and easily manipulated, if there’s someone available they want they’ll figure it out but I don’t really see that happening

i know this rant will fall on mostly deaf ear, since most of you hate/dislike baseball..

but the homerun “trots” are getting out of hand and are absolutely stupid. it’s equivalent to the entire defense being allowed to run onto the field, into the endzone, EVERY SINGLE TIME there is a turnover. it’s all stupid. Maybe they should adopt the slowpitch softball rule of not needing to run the bases if you hit a homerun. either way. it’s dumb.

end rant

‘most of you hate/dislike baseball’

I am good with baseball, especially playoff baseball, especially when a team I root for (twins) is involved. But since that is not happening I have little interest, kind of like hockey that way.

As someone who had a blood clot in his leg, that later also went to my lung, How the Eagles handled this seems to fly in the face of everything I was told by medical experts regarding appropriate procedures.

Even the basics are wacky. If you have a blood clot in your leg, the last place on earth a doctor will allow you to go is on an airplane, and they knew about it before they flew to Europe.
And the second most basic procedure they do is put you on blood thinners.

I can support acquiring Taylor – it would lock up the RB1 for several years. at a manageable price compared to Barkley.

We could use some quality Oline depth though. Sounds like Huber will be a good fill-in for Jackson once Darrisaw comes back, but one more injury/concussion and we’re right back to sticking Van Demark back in there.

QOTD. Probably not, but maybe?

JJ looked better than we have seen from him, but it was prevent defense in mop up time.
More data needed….

Either way, it was a mistake by this franchise either to draft him at all, or to trade him with only 10 starts under his belt. Not a good look, but that is what the Vikings do.

Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League Update #6

Game of Thrones had the Red Wedding. Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League had Red Week Six. A lot of red appeared on the game board this week. Between the Thursday night game, and the Sunday noon games, I had a grand total of one game picked correctly. I was deeply depressed about this, felt listless and resorted to calling mom.

She called me a loser and expressed regret at birthing me.

I did manage to rally a little bit as Sunday went along, but a little bit is all it took. No one did particularly great this week. Only 13 points separate the top spot from the bottom spot. Even with my crappy picking, I was only out of first place by six points.

Overall, PA shot back to the top. He gets to bask in glory until at least Thursday, lording superiority over the rest of us as he lives the lavish lifestyle of a pick ’em league leader, which likely consists of eating gold-plated chocolates with Sydney Sweeney.

At least, that is how I imagine it…

Mjolnir is in second, and Bowbunch is in third, only two points behind. I don’t know what people in second and third place do. Really, all they can do is gaze at the spot above them with raging, jealous, envy, unable to enjoy the small modicum of success they have carved out for themselves because there is no gold-plated chocolates and Sydney Sweeney. There is only the bitterness of so-close-but-so-far and probably Rosie O’Donnell-type groupies.

Likewise, peterplaysbass and JacksonVike are in fourth and fifth with only two points separating them. Fourth and fifth are much more psychologically easy to accept than second and third. Fourth and fifth are just happy to be there. They aren’t at the bottom, they don’t have unrealistic expectations thrust upon them, and they can easily climb up multiple spots with one perfect pick.

I remain stuck in sixth place. I don’t think I have moved from it in weeks. In that regard, I am very dependable. Surly and DE are in the same boat. They have also been stuck in seventh and eighth for multiple weeks now (I think). My excuse is that my life is dominated by corn. I have no room in my brain for picks. I don’t know what excuses Surly and DE have. My guess is they are distracted by happy and fulfilled lives and don’t wrap their self-worth up in pick ’em league scores.

No, that can’t be right. No one is that happy and fulfilled…

Everyone got the Patriots, KC, Bills and 49ers games right. Everyone got Indy and the Rams wrong. Wow, Rams are really screwing the pooch. That is fine with me. McVay owns KOC and Flores, so if we never have a theoretical playoff game against the Rams, all the better for us.

We had two Iconoclast Picks. Bow is the only one who took Houston over Jax, which also qualifies as a Genius Pick. JacksonVike is the only one who took the Saints over the Giants, which again, was also a Genius Pick. I don’t think we have ever had that happen before. Impressive!

We did have one Iconoclast Pick that did not turn into a Genius Pick. That would be peterplaysbass with the Bucs over the Steelers.

We had no Traitor Picks because the Vikes didn’t play. So, the only real fun of the week was seeing McCarthy come in and throw for big yards in limited play. Maybe that is cool. Maybe it is not. I did see that about 25 percent of those yards came off a reception that should have been an interception, which was then bobbled to the receiver.

I hope JJM starts next week, so we can get more data. I personally feel no angst he is gone and took his stupid face with him. Yet, I enjoy the discourse that results…

I hope McCarthy has some success. My guess is that he’ll have some pretty good games, but not be around in the league as a starter or threat to start for very long. Sort of a TimTebow-lite

I really wanted to pick the Bucs in week 5 and didn’t, so now I’m chasing my regrets. I feel a slide to the bottom of the rankings coming on. We’ll see.

Yeah, teams are hard to get a handle on. I guess that makes it fun, though. The league is more wide-open than it initially appeared maybe.
