Minnesota Vikings Discussion: Skoloholics 10/31/2026 – Daily Thread Halloween Edition

IMG_2268

Happy Halloween, and welcome to Skoloholics. The Vikings will face off against the divisional rival Detroit Lions, in motor city Detroit on Sunday.

It’s All Hallows Eve, later today the streets will be full of kids in their costumes begging for candy, such freeloaders. My kids are all grown up, but this will be the first Halloween with the grandkids.

The wife is doing well, she is in a lot of pain, but with the help of Oxy and me bringing her ice packs every hour, she is powering through. Thank you everyone for the well wishes.

The Vikings may be the worst undefeated team, but they are also the best undefeated team this year.

QOTD:

What is your go to candy for handing out to the kiddos? Freezy don’t bother answering, we all know you will release the hounds if any kid dare step foot on the lakefront property.

Let us know in the comments.

Actually Indiana just hit a 60 yarder as time expired. 16-16, OT coming up.

Gopher drive stalled at the 3, 23-16.

After looking at cap rules, the Vikings would only be responsible for the remaining base salary and weekly roster bonuses.
Taylor had $7 million base and $1 million in roster bonuses for all of 2026.

Taylor has about $5.2 million left for 2026 and the Vikings have $6 million in cap space.

I don’t think cap space is that big of an issue to get a deal done.

What would you say to Big Citrus and a high pick being part of a package to land Taylor?

That seems a bit steep to me but I’d think about it. I think DT depth is more important but Taylor in this offense makes a lot of sense. If they want a 1st and Orange then no that’s too steep.

No 1st rounder.

I’d probably do that deal.

I’m not 100% convinced, but I’m good with sending 2nd rounders.

I’m not a draft chart expert, but at 6-0 and a bad offensive, I think getting a solid RB for ball control with a stout defense, 2nd rounders are worth it for a potential playoff run.

Funny thing about the Packers being interested in Jonathon Taylor they don’t have an upcoming 1st rd pick to trade. Doesn’t sound like they’re a serious contender. They’ll stick with Jacobs even with the mountain of shit that keeps getting dumped on him, rightfully so imo.

You don’t put your hands on a woman or child, it’s not that complicated, don’t know why some people have such a hard time with that lesson.

We don’t have enough tricksters to hand out treats. We are in a mostly retired community.

Plus our dog is hyper, so it would be quite the evening when tricksters come to the door.

So we just hang out mostly.

Same with the hyper dog. The mini-pin goes nuts and wants to kill anyone that rings the doorbell and the corgi is just a loud barker, so we had to put a gate up and one of us sat by the door giving out treats.
As fewer kids showed up each year we gave up. It is now a movie night and the lights are off in the house while we watch tv in the basement.

When we got here a couple years ago The Teacher didn’t know how much candy to get for Halloween. She overdid it just a little bit. After getting ‘almost a dozen’ trick or treaters she donated a few boxes of candy to the local school.
She normally gets a bag or two of mini sized chocolates early and snacks on them herself, then gets ‘fruit snacks’ for the ‘Big Day’. Not real fruit but the fruit flavored gummy type things, not a fan of those myself but I’ll sneak a mini Mounds or Almost Joy occasionally.

39 years ago today my Grandfather passed away – I was 8 years old. It ruined Halloween for the rest of my childhood. What’s worse….. his funeral was on my 9th birthday.

He was an Army vet – Korean War. Electrician by trade, in later years (the mid 70’s) he and my grandmother owned and operated a drive-in restaurant named Sandy’s in Windom, MN. They sold the place and bought a house on Nest Lake near Spicer – many, many memories of my youth were made here, including watching the Vikes beat Dallas on Thanksgiving Day in 1987, just a few weeks after he passed. He loved the Vikings.

Took until my mid twenties for me to get over it and actually start to enjoy the holiday. I buy lots of candy and absolutely love giving heaping piles of it to the kids. Also have ZERO qualms about telling obviously-too-old-to-be-trick-or-treating teenagers to kick rocks. I dare them to ‘trick’ me. Waiving the gun around helps.

Another full slate of college games today. Georgia/Florida looks to be a good game. Also rooting like crazy for the Gophers to take down Indiana. My beloved Huskers host Washington in Star City in a ‘blackout game’. Haven’t hosted a Halloween game in Lincoln in almost 30 years. I was at the last one – NU vs Texas. Huskers started a kid named Monte Christo @ QB and had Texas on the ropes for 3 quarters. Then Ricky Williams ran for a 100 yards in the 4th quarter alone and the Huskers lost. Still the 2nd greatest performance I’ve ever seen live.

The first was Lawrence Phillips.

Absolutely cannot wait to play Detroit tomorrow. Great offense. Goff playing at a high level. Hated opponent. Hostile environment. Can’t wait. I’m always optimistic when it comes to the Vikings – and I’m optimistic about tomorrow’s outcome. We harassed and harangued Goff in both matchups last year. Gave him happy feet and had him hearing footsteps. I feel good about tomorrow, just a gut feeling – been wrong before.

Happy Saturday!

If I recall correctly, believe it was Lawrence Phillips that ran all over a heavily favored Gator team in the Orange Bowl – just destroyed them.

He did indeed. Shredded them.

Arguably the biggest waste of talent in NFL history.

My Mom’s family is from the Windom area. Once in a while we would go to Sandy’s while visiting the family around the area. Good stuff!

They sold the place in the early 80’s – one of my first memories is being carried, sleeping, from my parent’s car to my grandfather’s pickup in the parking lot of Sandy’s. Place was known for broasted chicken and breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches as my father recalls.

Tough to lose your person in life especially when you’re young. Your Grandfather had a life worth living. The day he passed was part of his journey that should be celebrated as a life anyone should be glad to have lived.

I’m with ya I really like the Vikes chances tomorrow. I think this defense wears on you over 4 qtrs so the challenge is keep it within 2 scores if not tied or by some stroke of luck have the lead. I want KOC to defer and lead with the defense.

the challenge is keep it within 2 scores

If the Vikings are down two scores, that might be too big of ask this year. Unless two scores is defined by 4, 5 or 6 points.

QOTD- We haven’t gotten trick or treaters in years. They all go to one certain street that gained a reputation for giving out good treats. Now the city has to block off the street there are so many kids, and the home owners are asking for donations $$. Doesn’t bother me at all.
