I hope you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend. Kiddo and I were having some great luck on the river, so we spent most of our weekend fishing, with the exception of yesterday, when we were rained out.
Some tragic news yesterday when former Viking Jeff Gladney died in a car accident. From Kare-TV via MSN, Gladney’s former and current teammates react to the news. There aren’t a lot of verified details released yet, but as we hear more, we’ll try to keep you updated.

I always remember taking general surgery call my first week at SHMC in Spokane as a transitional year intern. SHMC was on city wide trauma call and I got called at about 10 pm for a stabbing involving the right wrist of a nice guy, kinda sounded like wrong place at the wrong time. I roll into the ED and the nurse (I still remember her name she got kind of sweet on me as the year progressed undoubtedly my charm and good looks are hard to resist haha) says oh you might see the two gunshot victims first. I’m like wow what happened was it a gang thing and she said oh they came from opposite ends of downtown. Quick as a sprat I said and I quote: holy cow two separate shootings in a single evening would be statewide news in North Dakota. That got a good laugh and eyebrow raise from her.

Took my new boat for the maiden voyage on the Jellystone. Took it about 12 miles upstream, practiced tight turns, beaching, played with the fishfinder, practiced pulling on and off the trailer. Miraculously no damage whatsoever. Didn’t even tear the transducer off the transom…that’s a $200 mistake just waiting to happen.
Launched Canoe Girl’s pontoon Saturday. Couldn’t get the fish finder working, so will have to try to see if a new transducer might do the trick or should just get a whole new everything, since fishfinder getting long in the tooth.
FWIW I got a Lowrance Elite FS7.
My extreme fishing friend who is not so much of a friend that he’d take me fishing swears by Lowrances, since he’s in a big fat network of friends who all have Lowrances and they download all their fishing spots to them.

Funny thing was I was out with my teacher (stepson) who has ran the river for fourteen years. He has never encountered FWP. While he was backing the trailer down the ramp and I was getting ready to get back on the trailer FWP gal pulled up and did a boat inspection. She said the same thing everyone I spoke to said – wow that’s a pretty new boat is that what the G3’s look like now – ahh the telltale of a boat without scratches or dents.

Gotta watch the swing of the back end when pulling up to the bank (transducer on the transom plate) and the stone skipping on the surface of a lake performance in a tight turn. Big thing I need to practice is getting back on the trailer as you don’t just motor straight in like on a lake…gotta play the current.

I think he actually can’t talk much in real life with throat cancer. But in the movie, they work in that he has cancer and cant talk. He only has one scene for like 5 min then that’s it. He types on a screen to communicate but does say like 2 sentences but his voice sounds like Yoda.

He does…read today his diet much the same as Brady and I. No sugar, processed carbs or grains of any kind. Eats a strict anti inflammation diet. I cut out out sugar in my coffee and tea and never felt better.

It’s a very sobering place. Endless gravestones as far as the eye can see.
Dad had the option of going there but he ended up wanting to go to the State Veteran’s cemetery at Camp Ripley, where many of his National Guard buddies are buried. He’s in one of the cremation walls there.
On our field trips in W Germany we visited some WWI and WWII battlefield gravesites. Definitely one of those places where even 10 year old boys stop fucking around.

Two of my grandparents are at Snelling.
they had a pretty cool ceremony going on. i think i’d like to bring the kids down there next year.
i saw alot of grandparents with their grandchildren and i thought this is a place where kids should go and learn the importance of what generations before them have done and sacrificed.
i know my daughter thinks it’s pretty cool her great grandma was the oldest living marine before she passed away this past fall.
