It’s the boring time of year as far as football news goes, no doubt. Thank God that it’s also the beginning of summer, with all of the wonderful things that summer brings, such as fishing, baseball, fishing, camping, fishing, and……have I mentioned fishing? It definitely offsets the doldrums of the NFL boring season. Football returns the favor in the wintertime when everything else mostly sucks and football gives us something great to occupy our time.

If I get a 1st then I have the foresight to know you have 4 top 10 qb’s next year, including the first 3 overalls picks in all likelyhood. Use those 2 1st’s to move up and suck this year so no need to move that far. Instead, we have 35M already committed next year, 18.5 ded in the following 2 years and no urgency to draft a qb.

Ummmm offense was ranked 11th in yards and was 7th in rushing, and 11th in passing yards. The passing offense was 14th in the league with 25 TD’s. Keenum accounted for 22 of those of course. The defense was #1 in yards allowed and points allowed (15.8 points a game).
You’re looking at simple, flat statistics. I’m looking at context-specific efficiency. Yards per play given down and distance as well as other important game contexts.
I’m sure that with the overwhelming offensive stats that they were a true powerhouse and the absolute reason the Vikings went 13-3 that year.
I already said that the defense was the best in the league that year. An efficient offense coupled with an excellent defense usually results in a lot of wins.

I think the decision to renegotiate Cousins deal was a no brainer. Best effing QB the Vikings have had in decades, and without him you’re a strong contender to go 0-17. The cap situation was an issue of course, but Cousins delivers on his end. No HC in the league is gonna turn his nose up at him. He’s as dependable and consistent a player as there is in the league. Every single year you’re gonna get a high passer rating, high completion percentage, tons of yards and tons of TD’s. Yeah… let’s dump THAT guy.

When you are producing like Cousins, no one is making excuses LFA. He’s one of the best QB’s in the league year in and year out. Lots of TD’s, lots of yards, high completion percentage,big time throws while getting clobbered, etc. He’s damn good and he’ll be damn good this year too. Can’t say what the defense and the rest of the team will be like but Cousins will do his job at a high level as he always does.

Cousins is the most productive QB the Vikings have ever had (TD production) and the 5th most productive in the league since joining the Vikings in 2018 behind one of the worst lines in the league. Not to mention being in a system built around the RB. I think the new regime understood that while Cousins cap hit was problematic (not his contract) he was a top shelf QB and “going in another direction” was dumber than a box of hair.

No fake news… like your usual commentary Five. Real facts. Since becoming a starter in 2015 Cousins is the only QB in the league with 25 or more TD’s every year. He is a model of consistently strong play and reliable (no missed games due to injury). You just can’t stand the fact that Cousins puts up tons of TD’s every single year.

Brady had 4 years over 30 TD’s, Cousins had 2, with none 40 or over. Out of 7 years, Brady had 3 years over Cousin’s highest year, same with Rodgers.
Rodgers hurt one year, but also, like Brady, had 2 over 40, and 4 over 30.
Ummmm OK… I didn’t twist anything. I stated the facts. Cousins played in a ball control offense that was all about running the ball. Rodgers has been just tossing bombs his whole career. Rodgers is a GREAT QB for sure, but he’s never been leashed either. Brady threw the ball over 700 times last year… yeah he was throwing as many TD’s as possible trying to beat out Rodgers. Both those guys are great QB’s but they are also letting it fly a lot.

I’m happy now that they got his cap hit to a more reasonable amount. As we learned through decades of QB misery, you can’t win without a decent QB. You also can’t allocate 20% of the cap to one guy. It’s a balancing act that they finally have somewhat under control. I think the Vikes O and Cousins will have a big year if they can avoid an excessive amount of injuries.

I’d say a 2nd rd pick since same age Russell for TWO 1st and TWO 2nds. If not, then you don’t extend him and kick the can even more. If you trade him, you ink a Mariota or the like and except you are in a rebuild, which they are regardless. The wolves want to make more money so they are trying to tell rube fans we are awesome. You draft the new qb like all good teams have done for all eternity and then give them a shot. Now, we are all just waiting around while our 23rd ranked team sucks until we can get a rebuild going, esp at qb.

Those qb’s were all drafted and played over a decade on their original teams except for iggles, who killed us with a back-up. Those teams had the other parts of the team in good shape so they needed the last piece. We do not and will lose 100% at least 3 of our top 5 players this offseason

QB’s don’t win or lose games…. teams do. You pay for a quality QB that does his job better than most other QB’s in the league (produces lots of TD’s and doesn’t throw lots of interceptions). Cousins gave the Vikings a 7 point or better lead in the 4th quarter of their first ten games last year and they went 5-5. We all know the Vikings defense and offensive line sucked to high heaven, but you want to get rid of the guy who is the most accurate passer in the league? It boggles the mind.

Kirk isn’t the most accurate passer in the league, his completion % last year was around 15th among starters behind the likes of Tua, Garoppolo, Davis Mills, and Bridgewater. I’m not saying Kirk is inaccurate but this is a stretch even for you.
Over the last four years Cousins has the highest percentage of on target throws in the league.

Hey Ben, you are correct. In 2018 Cousins was second to Brees, in 2019 he was first, and in 2020 he was 5th which over those three years made him on average the most accurate passer in the league. I hadn’t looked up 2021. He did drop by about 4% on his on-target throws last year,
Kirk is accurate for sure, I just don’t think he’s the most accurate passer in the NFL.

If you you were going to move on from Kirk this last offseason your options to replace him would have been to trade boatloads of picks for Watson or Wilson to try to compete immediately, or trade Kirk and draft a QB at 12 in a class that was thin at the position, or go into full rebuild mode, punt on being competitive in 2022 and just start Mond and all the young players and find a QB in the 2023 draft. As usual the Vikings neither went all in to win a SB or rebuild, just looking to be in the “not a dumpster fire” category.
Which will result, as per usual, in being a smoldering burn pile instead of a full-on dumpster fire which needs a big red truck to put out.
The goal appears to be the greatest mediocre franchise with the greatest mediocre QB in NFL history.

He used JJ and that’s the only top flight player on the offense. Ole thelen might crack 700 yards and cook is still solid. Got no te’s. Maybe osborn can do okay.
Zim only used JJ when the running game left us in 3rd and 10 and longer… the reality is Zim made the offense one dimensional for the opposing defense. He didn’t make them defend every blade of grass on the field. Rather he shrunk the field for them and was so predictable it was maddening.
Not true, he was 2nd in the NFL in receiving yards, cook 5th in rushing despite missing a bit of time. No other team with those results finished with back to back losing records that I know of. Conklin had solid stats and then donnie had solid 3rd wr stats.

They were 11th in the league in pass attempts. What I didn’t like was the ball control offense that Zim ran. Once the offense crossed the 50 yard line, it was like he slowed it down to the max to burn clock, and get in field goal range. In 2019 against the Eagles Cousins threw two 50+ yard TD’s to Diggs in three plays, and just missed him on a third. Diggs had three TD’s and we beat the Eagles 34-20. We NEVER saw that offense again.
