On Saturday got a chance to tour the University of Texas stadium in Austin. Not a Longhorns fan, but my parents lived in Austin for quite a few years, so had some exposure. Massive weight room, and pretty cool to stand at midfield in a 100,000 capacity stadium.

Colorado’s House of Representatives passed a bill on Tuesday that will put more than $600 million towards financially stabilizing the state’s unemployment system.
Senate Bill 22-234 also makes several tweaks to Colorado’s unemployment process, such as removing the requirement that an individual wait at least one week before they are eligible to receive benefits and requiring the state’s Labor Department to award grants to third-party agencies for the purpose of paying unemployment claims.
The House passed the bill on third reading by a 48-17 margin on Tuesday. The Senate must sign off on the bill one more time before the legislative session ends on Wednesday.
Colorado’s unemployment system was heavily taxed during the pandemic because the state received a record-high number of claims. In turn, the state rushed to pay out claims as fast as it could, and likely paid out millions in fraudulent claims, according to reports.
The state’s unemployment system was expected to end the year at more than $955 million in the red had lawmakers failed address the funding shortages, according to an economic forecast from the nonpartisan Legislative Council Staff.

At the Austin airport yesterday, stepson’s 16th birthday, so we went to a sitdown joint. Took 20 minutes to get greeted, half the menu was 86’d, server told us food would likely take about 40 minutes. Was cool though, food was pretty good and we were not in a hurry.

Was heading to a destination wedding in Costa Rica. Got to Denver and flight (AA) delayed delayed delayed finally they said we’ll get you on next flight…oops mechanical issue okay next plane etc…bottom line spent 24 hours in airport slept on the carpet etc…

Arrives in CR, a little bleary eyed and worse for wear. Friend waiting for her in baggage claim. Gets to customs agent, checks her bag, makes a little signal and three gentlemen with M-16’s come up, say you come with us chica. Lead her to a dilapidated elevator you don’t ask questions says she is going to have a panic attack getting on this elevator while she thinks of the movie Taken. They call a woman who escorts her up the stairs plops her in a little room. Team comes in asks a few terse questions they say this passport has been reported stolen who are you? What passport stolen it’s here with me this is my drivers license…they take passport and say you must get back on plane you arrived on. Gets put in a seat by the nice men in camo pyjamas and the stewardess comes on the PA and says we will be departing soon for Houston. A guy boards the plane and asks her why she is in his ticketed seat. She breaks down crying the stewardess sympathizes so squirrels her across the tarmac to the plane that will be heading to Denver. Was back in Denver last night waiting for flight back here last night.

On my quest to prove my wife right in all things, less than 24 hours after the concrete was poured for the driveway I spalled a pancake sized piece of concrete out of the edge of the driveway. I was backfilling gravel against the driveway with my SCUT after my wife told me to just use a rake and I’m all like I’m not raking 600 pounds of gravel thirty feet I’ll just use the bucket and box blade. Backing up to take another pass and the box blade made a nice THRUMmmm noise as it glanced off the driveway edge. AAUGHH! I glued the piece back down so now it makes a fine conversation piece.

As I always say, when I met my wife (24) I was living paycheque to paycheque and making a payment on my SUV. Three years later sold her house and made a sizable down payment on our first home, had savings in the bank, money going into retirement funds, etc. The best pairing for a strong financial offense is a strong defense. Well I got baptized by fire at the bar gig this weekend. Both bars were slammed, I haven’t made a drink yet but was running drinks and waiting tables and doing prep work, making in house keg drinks from scratch, kegging them and running them up and down stairs. I lost 3 lbs, went to bed at 4am and 5am respectively. Now im back at the day job and get paid to Golf today. 30+ handicap ( I know thats not a thing but thats how bad I am) lets go.

My daughter was really sweet and easy to manage until a little before her 3rd birthday, now at times she is defiant, willful, and has no respect for my time, though she is also super silly, funny, and enjoyable like 90% of the time, really its getting ready for the day and then getting ready for the end of the day that can be rough, the rest is great.

My youngest (10) granddaughter is just the sweetest but she is a genius at getting her way. She knows she’s my favorite. Slid up to me on the couch yesterday while we were watching Christmas Vacation and said “oh yeah, you know like how you said you were going to rub my back during the movie oh you don’t remember maybe you forgot?” Little charmer. Her brother (13) is more about showing me tools he built in his other granddad’s shop or insects he’s captured.
