I hope y’all had a great weekend, I know I did. McQuade’s Softball Tournament was in town this weekend, and since I’m not playing anymore, I mostly avoided town. Normally, I would have been fishing, but the wind made that next to impossible, so we worked in the yard & got things done around the house. I did buy a mountain bike, so kiddo and I were out doing a lot of biking.

I played golf on Sunday but couldn’t finish the round. I had a cold coming on Saturday but decided to play Sunday anyway. I took some Dayquil before the round but it was 90 degrees and I was running a fever. Bad plan poorly executed. By the 16th hole I was throwing up the Powerade I was drinking to stay hydrated. My buddies insisted we return to the clubhouse and get me into the air conditioning. That was a good idea. We drove in and I threw up again, this time dry heaves. Took some time before I felt well enough to drive home. I was in bas shape all night with fever, chills, and nausea. Slept all day today. Starting to feel better now, but suspect the cold is going to linger.

I’ve gotten heatstroke a couple of times from living in the Central Valley in California when it was nearly 110 out and it was a near-thing both times. Dehydration comes on faster than you think.

On a side note, I have been craving Indian food for some time. No surprise there were almost a dozen Indian restaurants within walking distance/two miles of my hotel. I walked until I found one where the employee lot was filled with vehicles with Uber and Lyft stickers and was not disappointed (Indian City FWIW). I ate so much food it was obscene…walked around Wascana Centre and damn near puked I was so full.
Talked to the owner for about a half hour. They are expecting Saskatchewan to boom with the potash mines. He came over on the boat 27 years ago couldn’t speak a lick of English. Didn’t have the grades in English or Social Studies to go to university so started the restaurant. Now has three generations of his family working there. Meanwhile a nephew going to U of Regina for med school, etc…good Canadian success story.
I set a record for the border crossing…45 seconds to cross going up and 35 seconds to cross coming back.
I also lucked out, I had taken the cheapest dungeon room at the hotel and when I got back from my two hour postprandial walk there was water pouring into the bathroom through the ceiling above. Got comped to a top floor suite gratis.

Yes as that is what we fished for mostly. Got a bunch of pike too, I got 3 over 30 inches. biggest 34. Lots of big walleyes, 29 the biggest.

Fished with family near Kenora when I was a kid, caught a huge pike. We didn’t have a tape with us so I still wonder how big it was.

Nope I drove to YQR (Regina) on Friday night the 17th, spent the night, got an early flight to YYC, saw my sisters and mom, and caught a flight back to YQR on Sunday afternoon. Flight was delayed, barely made the border for the 10 pm closing, got to bed about 2 am Monday morning, and got a call at 8 am that the rad covering my vacation caught the virus and I had to go in and work, a little bleary eyed and worse for wear and tear.
I love that the security gates don’t check your ID but they have the gate agent check it as you board the plane. Like what will they do if your passport photo doesn’t look like you. Also nice to hear every frickin’ announcement bilingually. At least I was nestled in the cheap seat back in the back corner of the CRJ 200 where the engine drones out the ceaseless cabin announcements.

The beauty of it was the wind was blowing 35-45 mph from the south my entire 240 mile trip from Glendive to Regina, which is more or less due north. My big ol’ pimp sedan with the V8 averaged 47.7 mpg. @I think the blonde CBSA officer was flirting with me but I could barely hear her over the high wind@. Then on the drive back home the wind had shifted to a north breeze about 20 mpg. Not bad for a 4500 pound car with all the bells and whistles.
We took the hybrid SUV to Billings on Wednesday, didn’t do nearly as well on fuel economy.

Yes, I heard the news about the USSC giving the rights back to the states/people and taking power away from the federal gvt. I am a strong states rights advocate and agree w/the ruling.
