Alright folks, not a lot of big news out of training camp, and we won’t hear much more until the first preseason game on Sunday. The Vikings practiced without pads on Friday, so doubt we’ll hear much from that. The team travels to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders on Sunday, kickoff is at 3:25 and the game will be televised on the NFL Network. We will have a game thread up for you as well, and we can post a new one each quarter, if traffic requires it. Until then, y’all have at it in the comments, and remember, be cool to one another.

Things to watch from most intriguing to least intriguing:
We get our 1st look at a vikings defense in a 3-4. I can’t remember for sure but back to late 70’s i don’t ever remember our defense in a 3-4 as their base defense. I think it might fit our team very well.

I think it will be good in the end but not sure if our players fit the scheme. I think they’ll be some growing pains but I expect our offense to be explosive

I’m just hoping Mond can have moments of play that inspire optimism. I’m not expecting much, but flashes of competence is what I’m hoping for with Mond.
One thing I think might work against him will be the offensive game plan. There isn’t one. The offense and defense will be very vanilla because both schemes are new and KOC will not be intending to show his hand in any way to the Packers. I think the goals are to see if the players know their jobs, and can do their jobs on any given play. Also hope for no injuries.

Def with the new scheme needs a few series
This game will feature two teams starting the year with a new head coach. KOC has never been a HC and while he talks a good game, experience favors the Raiders I think. The Raiders hired Patriots OC Josh McDaniels. He had a position as the Broncos head coach for almost two seasons over a decade ago. It didn’t end well, as he was fired midseason. However, he’s been through the head coach learning curve and served as the OC on multiple Super Bowl winning teams. I just don’t think KOC is in his league. That is just my personal opinion.
McDaniels is a little turd, flamed out hard with the Broncos and catfished the Colts after accepting the job. He’s a douche of the highest order BUT he does know NFL level offense. I just think he’ll fuck it up there eventually with his assholyness.
KOC is a really smart dude. I’ve grown up, been around the smooth talkers who don’t have the intelligence or cunning to back it up. He’s not that guy, he’s smart, deliberate and knows how to evaluate a situation, execute a plan, review the results and adjust accordingly. I think he’s a good leader of men also, no bullshit its genuine. Better than YOU BETTER OR ELSE like potbelllied Zim.

What did McVay do before he got a job? His resume was much less impressive than McDaniels.
McVay came from a family of NFL coaches… and he has a photographic memory. I’m not kidding. I saw him in camp a couple seasons ago being interviewed and the reporter asked him about some plays in his past (to test the photographic memory) and he spit out every detail on what was called, what formation they were in, what happened, why it happened and what drove him to make the call. They asked him about 5 or 6 plays and he was crystal clear on every single one of them. McVay came to the table as an extremely unique individual.

I guess today we’ll finally see what the Mond vs Mannion competition looks like. My perception of this is Mannion is a vet who is comfortable with the playbook and the scheme and Mond is supposedly a great athlete. Smith obviously has impressed coaches with his athletic ability and maybe more (football acumen?) but damn… two years in a row he’s injured in training camp. Ligament surgery on a thumb seems serious for a guy who makes a living catching footballs thrown at 50+ mph.
Never know. Rudy had a lot of injuries his first year or two, but was durable after that. It can happen. Not saying it will, but it can.

According to Robert Barnes, even a conviction would not disqualify from running for President. The constitution specifically says what the requirements are (35 years of age, natural citizen…). Can’t be added to or changed without a constitutional amendment.

The President has the ability to declassify any information at any time, including any words he may use in speaking to others and documents he may possess. Obama has millions of once classified documents. The fact that the Dem’s are painting this picture to the public (and you) as a breach of security and/or nefarious in any way is very troubling.
The thing people are missing here though, is that there is a process you have to go through to declassify the information. Trump and his staff in normal fashion pencil whipped didn’t do it right and now his ass is in a sling. You’ll see when this plays out and he’s on the lam.
No there is not with the President. Whoever is telling you this does not know that all classification and declassification authority in the military is derived from the Commander in Chief (the President). He is at the top of the process so ther is no one above him to approve anything.

He’s football quick and gets open downfield with his route running, 38-inch vertical jump (8th among WR), and a 7.03 three-cone (5th among WR). He did a lot of jet sweeps and is a fantastic Diggs style premium route runner down field. Watch these highlights you’ll see.
That’s all good but I didn’t see much there where he flat takes the top off the defense. I’m talking about DeSean Jackson speed that forces the defense to play a safety over the top every time he’s on the field, or risk him flat outrunning the corner for a TD.
No he is not a straight line burner like DJ, he’s a Diggs style off the line make a move get on top of the corner and make the catch. The highlights show plenty of that plus the running ability out of the backfield.
If he can run good routes, he can be dangerous.
Plus, he has shown he can make plays when given the ball.
I would think he could be used at times lined up in the slot as a quick pass, pitches, motion jet sweeps etc….

For all the hype surrounding KOC as an offensive mind and a new scheme, he says he’s not changing much from the Zimmer/Kubiak era. He says he’ll run the ball early and late in games, etc, The passing game scheme may change a bit but Cousins said there’s only so much you can do.

I would for one reason. We have great talent at the skill positions and QB position who are battle tested. These guys have now played together for several years and that alone should carry the day on offense. They can get it done.

Yeah KOC absolutely needs to go 2009 Favre Vikings fuck you Chilly throw first offense. That team had the threat of AP at anytime just like we now have Cook. I would do the short gimme outside and slant throws on 1st and 2nd down and mix in Cook when it feels like the defense is on their heels playing the pass. Change up tempo by doing some no huddle 2 min offense which cousins thrives in and give Cousins the reins to dictate which will keep him confident and not worrying about the pass rush so when he does worry about it turn around and hand the ball to Cook.
Go full on opposite of Zimmer the idling old fool.
Cousins was best in the league in passes that carried 10+ yards down the field. Someone posted that graphic the other day. I like the 77 route combination on first down. Gives Cousins a choice of Thielen at about 10 yards or JJ at about 18. Play action to Cook and then take Thielen or JJ to start the game.

Shot a 102 this morning…now can’t get off the tee even with a hybrid. Might have to go to my putter eventually to hit it straight off the tee. Everything else was solid, irons, pitches, putting was fantastic holed half a dozen 10 footers. Just always in trouble off the tee, dropping or in a shitty spot always making up shots. So frustrating.
Well at least most of your game is OK. I can relate with tee ball issues though. There are times when I struggle off the tee too.
Yeah I pulled out the driver a few times when the hybrid wasnt working well, really about the same, had a couple nice 250 yard shots in the fairway but the rest OB or in bad spots. I’m playing again tomorrow I’ll use the hybrid only and see how it goes. Decent tee shots I easily could have shot in the low 80’s.
We could play a scramble. My tee shots are going well. 230-250 right down the middle.

I did get a new putter finally. I replaced the Vikings putter I won at a work raffle 25 years ago (Balata copper insert blade style with Vikings logo on the back).
Paid for a fitting, ended up with a Spider Hydro blast. Tried 4 different putters. I really wanted to like the Odyssey, but the Taylor Made felt the best.
Yeah, I use a putter I won in a golf tournament 10 years ago for a closest to the pin on a par three contest. I don’t even know what the brand is… grin.
I use a ping anser that has a soft face insert. I have a Scottie Newport I’ve had for years but the ping I’m just money with it.
I’d say I’m a good putter, not a lights out guy but I rarely three putt.

Certainly you have enough game to shoot low 80’s consistently if your tee ball is in play.
My tee shot is my most consistent and reliable shot.
My crack advice is to just slowdown your swing and try to take a slow easy swing.

I agree. I have been working on just that…swing tempo slowing my arms down. It’s worked for the most part but my issue today early was pulls which I assume is again my arms out front of my hip turn and closing off the face. When I switched to driver had some slices in there with the normal power fade. I’ll try the 1000-&-1 in my head as I take the club back tomorrow again as it seemed to help. Today I was trying to play by feel and less swing thoughts, clearly did not work off the tee.
