Man, it’s going to be a long wait until the next Vikings game. As you all know, it’s the Vikings’ bye week this week, so they won’t play again until October 30th when the Arizona Cardinals will come to town. The 2-4 Cardinals play their week 7 game at home tonight as the Saints, also 2-4, march into Phoenix for Thursday Night Football. Here is a preview of tonight’s Thursday Night Football game from CBS Sports.

With no Vikings football to watch this weekend, does anyone have any special plans? Any games you plan to keep an eye on? Maybe put something on the smoker? Make sure to join us in the comments section and share! SKOL!!!!!

The new oldest living NFL Hall-of-Famer is former referee and head of officiating Art McNally, who is a month older than fellow 97-year-old Hall of Famer Marv Levy.

Well I like to think so but some disagree.

Grandson’s 13th in a couple of days. Keep in mind each grandkid gets $1000 in college fund every birthday and Christmas. I have a DeWolt cordless circular saw and a cordless reciprocating saw all boxed up for him. Wife said, “I’m thinking of getting him a gift card he can use for his XBox games, in addition to those tools.” My face had a rather dark look.

DeWolt, what is that like the generic knock off of DeWalt? Maybe don’t be a cheapskate and buy the name brand tools next time and your wife won’t feel ashamed and have to get the extra gifts so the grandson doesn’t feel worthless because he has to have crappy generic tools.

I think the Canadian spelling is DeWoult, could be wrong though. Either way 1k in the college fund, power tools, x box games is a lot for birthday, generic tools or not.

Ain’t that the truth. I held onto a bad marriage with a violent drunk of a wife for like 5 years before I finally kicked her ass to the curb. Always wanted kids, refused to until she stopped drinking… that didn’t stop haha. But, in a fricken amazing relationship now. Fuck, a good woman can make a world of difference.

Last night as we snuggled in our bed for the night, my wife slid over and put her hand on my chest and said, “I saved this for you…”

It was an ad on FB that the local John Deere dealer was advertising year end closeouts and she had highlighted the pic of a 3 series with a cab.

I sense opportunity as well as danger. That 3 series is listed for $59K.

I fear I will come home and say hey I talked to Drew down at JD today and he said… “Oh my goodness you get so obsessed with buying things”

Advice on how to proceed?

She’s relaxed the finances a bit since I’ve settled in here and am back up to my highly productive self with a secure position. Plus we got the property improvements, shed, additional land paid for.

What she will want will be my everlasting love and to autowin the next ten arguments.

I know it’s nauseating for you guys to hear but I clearly outkicked my coverage. My wife is a great cook but I try to manage the griddle, grill and smoker because it is so easy. One of our jokes is brisket, cuz I get credit for smoking a brisket while no one says anything about who made the thin sliced medallion potato, asparagus, salad, lemon meringue pie, etc…

My wife is a good cook, and baker just not the grill. She usually is trying to do too many things and walks away forgetting the grill is going and that its not like the oven where you just let things cook until done.

I love hearing you brag about your wife. It gives me a little more confidence I’ll be doing that when I’m a little older.

My wife is brag-worthy now, but with my kids being 16/13/12 it’s hard to imagine what things will be like in 10 years. It’s an effort to successfully get through every week, it seems.

Teenagers are really hard. She always credits me for being there for the hardest years. We feel bad because we more or less forced them to spend Saturday nights with their dad thinking it was good for them to spend time with him and good for us to have a night off. They didn’t speak up about how bad his drinking was, really those feelings of dismay and embarrassment extend into adult life.

Marriage is work and I am far from perfect. So is she but you won’t get me saying that out loud, I let her say it when I give the ol’ how much more can you expect of me I’m trying my best.

Lmao, how can people believe that shit? Back then the rates weren’t 9% which imo they will be. You didn’t have this inflation and consumer debt. The basis values were lower then too. Now, take into account the fact you CAN’t not get higher unemployment when you raise rates. layoffs are already happening and will be huge, not the bullshit 4.5% they claim. Additionally, you don’t have the gov’t bidding the on the loan debt so the rates will go up faster.

Cashing out now is a bad idea. You are trying to time the market twice, once out, and then back in. By stashing in TBills at a time of rising interest rates, the principle of those bills will drop so unless you hold them to maturity you get wammied.

I just meant buy stocks to the companies that deal in commodities.
I actually own a decent amount of silver rounds and bars. Got a lot of it from my Dad, and the spot market can be a mess. Much easier to get a stock and go that route IMO.

I’m curious to know how you lost 4 years of retirement funding since 5’s hero took office?
Since Jan 20, 2021 when Biden took office:
The Dow is down less than 2%
S&P is down less than 3%

You can go to this link and add in whatever dates you want.

Nor should you.
Dollar cost averaging is the best strategy for investing. Every paycheck, some of your money enters the market….hopefully in a broad range of stocks.
Stocks price goes down? Then you get more of them.
Stocks price goes up? Then be happy.

Try not to panic. Market losses are short term, stay the course. You will not be able to time the market swings unless you are incredibly lucky. I’m older than you are and have the same or worse portfolio losses, doesn’t bother me one little bit. I am diversified and remember 100 shares of Tesla today is still 100 shares in a year.

So what is the obvious that you are seeing?
Companies are making record profits right now not seen since the 1950s.
Consumers wages are increasing and they have not started cutting back on purchases.
The US is still adding jobs.
Inflation is being driven by snarled supply chains, workers salaries increasing, and companies increasing prices to achieve record profits.
Bail on the market if you want to, but getting into T-bills during a period of inflation will cost you.

Google is Easy:
Wages in the United States increased 8.57 percent in August of 2022 over the same month in the previous year. source: U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis

hell, you can click on an interact chart and look at when wages were in negative territory.
Guess who the president was?

https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/wage-growth

No inflation was 100% due tpo spending 10 trillion to push socialism and ruin fiat currency

So, we should just ignore the pandemic screwing up supply chains and record company profits?
Cuz that wouldn’t cause inflation?

It worked great and when I went to return it I rang the bell but no one answered even though I could see them in the house. So I left by the door. Then that winter while back home for christmas he snowblowed the driveway for us while we were gone. I got them a gift card as thank you and had to leave it in mailbox because again even though they were home they didn’t answer the door. Nice people but reaaaaaly weird.

That’s my plan as well. I like the school our boys are going to but I can’t stand living in town. Luckily one of my neighbors is mostly cool, except his favorite football team. The other one is a lazy pos liberal. After growing up in the country, the neighbors houses are way to close. When we start looking for a different place I’m going to tell the realtor that if I can’t take a piss in the backyard without the neighbors seeing, don’t even show me the place.

Speaking of the airport I have to recount our experience. Probably the biggest drag coming from God’s country is the time zone change…our flight was scheduled for 5 am and we wanted to be at the security gates when they opened at 4 am so we set alarm for 3 am (which is 2 am our time). Hope that makes sense. Billings has multiple flights leaving at 0520-0600 so if you aren’t in the line two hours ahead you might not make it through security.

Was driving down S. Washington at 0340 not a care in the world whole town to myself, as always going exactly the speed limit. Going by that little park on the right, just as I am level with the next intersection a boy in blue fires up the light bar and siren. I pulled over immediately thinking he was hoping to snag me as a late night booze hound but he blew by me going to stamp out crime.

Must be the first time I thought I was getting pulled over in ten years. I was a little excited to disappoint the guy.

59? Sheesh.

Him flipping on the red and blues coincided perfectly with the moment I was perpendicular to where he was parked. I didn’t even see him there lurking next to the bushes.

BTW I was driving an even more fuddy duddy vehicle, our RX450h.

Ha!

I haven’t been pulled over in a while, but last several times it’s always been either pleasant for the cop if they’re having a slow day, or bothersome if they’re busy. I’ve got the window down and my hands on the wheel (visible for their safety) when they walk up, and they know I’m one of those nearly insufferable pro-police types.

When they ask for my insurance I tell them it’s in the glovebox and ask if it’s OK to reach for it – I can sense them fighting the urge to roll their eyes.

If they are old and Catholic, they were brought up to be Democrat. You would think the military and police would have moved him more to the right, but some people are locked in at a young age and won’t move even when they don’t like what their leaders are doing.

yup. the Catholic charity model is eerily similar to the Democrat welfare model. “we need a lot of money to take care of all of the people who need it, so be a good (catholic/democrat) and give it to us”

“no, no, you don’t need to take care of those people yourself, trust us to do it with your money”

of course, now it’s just voting for the most valuable members of our economy to bear nearly all of the load. I don’t know if the church is doing that – I think they want their pound of flesh from everyone.

Gone fishin'

I'm a dad, husband, Army vet, believer, and a die-hard, life-long Vikings fan from the great state of North Dakota. I've been a Viking fan dating back to 1980, I've been covering the Vikings for nearly a decade, and I founded Skoloholics in 2022. I work in real estate and property management, I love spending time with family, working in the yard, doing anything in the outdoors, and as you can tell from my username, I love fishing.
