As of this writing, the MNF football game is sitting at 10-0 Bears. The only thing I care about in this one is that some receiver named Thornton scores at least four points so that I win my fantasy football matchup. I always cheer for our division rivals to lose, so of course I’m hoping the Pats come back and win this one.

It shouldn’t be that hard. You have information. You have columns. You put stuff neatly in columns. You adjust the size of the columns. You make it readable. If your spreadsheet has 2380 pages and goes to column AMK for approximately 400 line items, you are probably doing something horribly, horribly wrong….
That is the spreadsheet I was just handed.
Excel is my least favorite thing, followed by PowerBI things.
Software engineer that ended up doing DBA work since nobody else wanted it. All the neat training, and all people want is the data in a fucking spreadsheet or pretty graph.
Had a meeting with Microsoft engineers to discuss the ramifications of certain index rules and what goes on behind the scenes, then the next meeting is “Make this graph with better colors”
I love Excel.
It is a great tool for certain tasks. Unfortunately, many companies use excel as a database, and then are shocked when their data is shit since some engineers, while brilliant, should not be writing complex queries or trying to merge data from multiple files if they have no idea what they are doing.
I’m shocked at the number of non-techies who think Excel works for all data and you can just keep shoving raw data at it for decades. Haven’t they ever heard of databases?
I used to have zero experience with Excel, but now I work with digital mapping, and digital maps are basically Excel tables projected in map form, so I have learned quite a bit about Excel in recent years. Main thing is keep it simple.
I can also do design work, and, yeah, Excel is not made for design. I hate working with Excel sheets people have tried to make pretty. First thing I have to do is remove all of their little bells and whistles, so mapping can work with it more easily.

I take zero medications. I take a multivitamin and a Vitamin D, that’s it. I did eat far too much meat for quite a while, which is likely why my cholesterol is so high, also genetics.
Yeah, even with diet and ideal weight, exercise my TChol was over 300. I nursed it along during med school with niacin which was unpleasant. I love my atorvastatin now, I think it should be in the water.
My main number was 317 last year, something like that. My bad cholesterol was over 200. They weren’t impressed. That was at my peak weight, though. I’d gained something like 45 pounds in 4 months when I first got sober, I was a fat ass.

Good on yuh. I hope to be the same way. Family history does not bode well. My father had a rare bone cancer that was found back in late 2005 early 2006. He’s been cancer free since around 2010 but still heads to Mayo every couple of years. They checked him out last week and got the all clear still, doesnt have to come back for 3 more years. His father and my uncle had terrible health, extreme diabetics/ alcoholics and over weight. My Moms father passed from Cancer back in 2009 but he smoked like a chimney until his 60s so thats probably where that came from. Both Grandmothers are still kicking at mid 80s and one just turned 90.

MT – I’ve got a medical question. Well, more of a story with the hopes that you may have thoughts about it.
My kid was running around on a hiking path on Sunday and broke a bone in his foot. It’s the long bone that runs from about midfoot to the pinky toe. The break is close to the end that’s further from the toe.
He’s in a boot and on crutches. My wife thinks he ought to have one of those wheelie cart things, but he is resistant and wants to stick to crutches. The doctor said to not bear any weight on the foot whatsoever until we can X-ray again in a few weeks and reassess.
Thoughts?
He has either a tuberosity avulsion fracture of the 5th MT or a Jones fx at the junction of metaphysis and diaphysis. The former is more common and sounds like what you are dealing with. A CAM walker is treatment of choice, with followup to evaluate for non union (can be a problem in this location due to tenuous blood supply). Jones fx has best outcome with immediate screw fixation but they can heal spontaneously as well.
I agree with the CAM walker and no weight bearing until assessment in a few weeks.

True story, I have never had diagnostic imaging with the exception of dental x-rays. I was playing intramural basketball in college and some 300+ pound guy came down hard on the dorsum of my foot and I heard a snap and had immediate pain. Went to the big city university hospital and no shit the intern said I’m sure it’s fractured but there is no point in x-rays as it won’t change the treatment, which is wear a shoe with good arch support. Fucker. I probably had a Lisfranc given my symptoms guess it scarred down eventually. One good thing that came out of it was it motivated me to get up earlier in the morning so I could make it to class on time which meant I cut way back on late nights and drinking, to the relief of my GPA.
If you sat on a stump and told stories in the park I’d sit cross-legged and listen.
The moral I took from this one? Don’t play basketball with fatties.
One of my broken bone stories involves going to grad school, and on the first day a guy asks me if I wanted to run with him since it was pretty well known I was a runner.

Saturday: blow leaves out of the woodchip and stone areas of the landscaping, run the ride mower over the leaves a couple times, then run the push mower (with bag) over the result to get most of the debris off the lawn. My 13 year old runs the full bag to the dumping spot and delivers the empty bag back to me. Lawn looks great when finished.

Awesome! Did something similar Sunday, burned leaves all day then sat around the fire with beers and watched the grass get covered up again. Amazingly, with the rain yesterday nearly every leaf came down. Hopefully they’ll be dry by the weekend and I can burn the rest of them and be done.
I love burning leaves. Wasn’t allowed at my last place. I should apply for a permit.
We built a fire pit, so we can burn ours. It isn’t huge, I think about 3 feet in diameter on the inside, but you can torch some leaves.
Mine’s a similar size. I burn the Christmas tree every fall (good reminder – need to burn 2021’s tree soon!) and we’ve got plenty of wood around for outdoor fires for fun.
I tend to split most of it for use inside, but outdoor fires are a lot of fun.
I love burning the Christmas tree. We stand it up inside the fire pit & let it go up like a torch. Friggin awesome.

Yes, my sense of smell is normal. It really feels like one of my 72 hour colds I get every 3-5 years or so…at least so far. My throat is like 1/10 for soreness and I have a little sinus congestion. Otherwise I feel fine. I do feel like I have a low grade temp of like 100.1 or so.
Really hoping it does the typical migration to rhinorrhea over the course of the day, which means by tomorrow I would be on the mend.

That’s how I felt my second go around with the plague. I never got sick enough that I would have stayed home from work pre-2019. I think it was worse after I got “better.” I had one day I felt good, was past the quarantine period and then it settled in my lungs for 3 or 4 weeks.
I haven’t even bothered looking at what my quarantine requirements would be…I’ve said since the first wave passed we will have to learn to live with it like any other respiratory virus. That doesn’t mean I’m willing to cough on a patient, I had them lock out my schedule for procedures this week.
Last I checked it is 5 days from first symptoms and then 5 days of masking indoors around people.
