Alright, we’re just a few short days away from Vikings football. I know this break between games will only be 3 days longer than a normal break, but man, it SURE feels a lot longer. I’m excited for the Vikings-Jets game, I expect it will be a similar game to the Patriots game, as the Jets team is very similar to the Patriots. Great defense, and a below average offense with a below average quarterback. As we know, our defense specializes in making quarterbacks look better than they are, so I expect another close game, as we have come to expect from the 2022 Vikings. Hey, who cares? Just win, baby! SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife is having a bunion lopped off on Monday. Then the other foot on December 28th (if recover from Monday’s goes well, otherwise she wants to postpone)
I swear, my wife needs a surgery punch card. The next one would be free or come with a complimentary sandwich or something.
I will likely have to have that (bunion surgery) sooner or later. My dad had them bad, never operated, but they had to hurt. This hospital is recruiting for a podiatrist, I’ll wait and see if they have many postop complications before scheduling an appointment.

Funny convo with my wife last night. We were at the Beer Jug with friends last week, saw an old firefighter buddy of mine with a Saskatchewan Roughriders cap on, asked him where he got it – his reply and I quote “Duh, at a game”. Anywho he and his wife go to a couple of games a year in Regina (I saw my Volvo on the outskirts of Regina narf narf). I said to my wife last night, oh yeah so and so was talking about what a good time they have at the new Mosaic Stadium in Regina, only four hours away, we should go some time, safe and clean city, good Indian food, nice outdoor stadium etc and she says that sounds nice, they play (NHL) hockey outdoors? Uh no this is football. Her response, “you know I don’t like football, why would I want to go to a football game outdoors in Regina”. I was thinking like a July game. My response, “You were willing to go to an outdoor hockey game in the winter but not a football game in the summer”? Women, I’ll never figure them out.

O’Neil, JJ, Harrison, Cook, were all impressive right out of the package…

Yep, it’s rare. O-line usually involves a steep learning curve. WR and RB will often have rookies do really well right away. CB and QB are very hard to learn. O line is in the middle, IMO.
I agree, he was pretty bad in pass pro, like Dozier level. He’s gotten a little better though. Cleveland wasn’t as much of a dumpster fire in pass pro but still wasn’t even average at it until this year, now his third season. It takes time.
It’s the best OL we’ve had in like 10+ years. I’ll take it.
Vikings should fire Ed Dumbatell and hire Wade Phillips as DC, it’d be nepotism but like the opposite of usual.

I’m still scarred and emotionally traumatized by this team so take this opinion with a grain of salt, but the Jets game scares me. Very tough D front, really good Dbacks. Sounds a lot like Dallas and Philly. Vikes coming off a big win (just like Dallas after the Bills game). Unknown QB for the other side (seriously, who TF is that guy?) who will probably light us up after we gave up roughly a million yards to Mack Friggin’ Jones. Very glad it’s a home game. Nervous nonetheless.

Ignitors are easy to replace. Crappy part is, a normal person can’t buy the parts, you have to be a certified something or other to get parts. This is why they created the dark web.

Of course, I didn’t try to buy one, so maybe you have to provide a HVAC license to complete the transaction…………IDK.

Fireplace/water heater run off a line. Furnace has one way valves that water heater sends thru for heat. It’s quite odd, i’d say. Hoping it’s simple.

Just my opinion (and I am by no means an interweb blog business expert), but I think as this site takes on more of a business mindset, the idea of focused presentation of “actual” articles is the correct move. I found the DN because I was deployed and desperately looking for news on the Vikes. Once there, I read the articles and then started exploring the OT and enjoyed it. The articles drew me in, I stayed for the convos and links/tweets other folks posted in the OT. I think that model works. Newbies finding the site and starting off in the OT might be a bit overwhelmed, and possibly confused lol.
Yeah, I agree. Plus, when certain folks are around, it may drive away a newcomer immediately. That was kinda the reason we’d discussed moving this off the front page. Will likely keep the front porch up there, as it’s far more welcoming, and we usually don’t have to create 2 or 3 of them a day and clog up the list of stories.

This will always be my favorite game ending moment, better than the Diggs walk off TD. Game 2, in Calgary’s barn (they had top seed), OT, shorthanded. The video cuts off just before Sather gives the ol’ “up yours” motion to the crowd.
Why would he expect a similar process from the Vikings soon? Season is winding down. Any need for Cap Space is due to an injury. With the length of season left, there is not a lot of need for much salary cap.

I think the GM is trying to avoid these restructures that kick the can down the road. They’re working their asses off to get rid of the garbage that Rick created.
Kendricks is about it
They can cut Kendricks after this season for only a $1.9 million dead cap hit in 2023. His cap hit next year is only ~$11 million, I think he may stay, depending on how valuable they feel he is to the defense.
We see him in decline, but they see things that we don’t. Not sure what to expect there. I DO expect to see many new faces next year, Kendricks could be one who is gone.

I met with my accountant the other day, and this is so cool. Since we have this site going, and I have Google ads turned on, it’s now a business. Any expense I incur for the site can be written off (Yay!), which means that if I attend a game and write about it, I can write off the expenses. I like accountants sometimes.

I used to do bus/marketing consulting on the side, I wrote A LOT of stuff off, literally anything you can think of that has anything to do with business, like internet, cell phone, pens, my pickup, stuff for around the house like cleaning supplies and new vacuum, etc.

Yep, we already write off our home office for our real estate biz, but travel and site expenses will be a great write-off this year. We had an outstanding year in real estate, so these will come in handy.
My cousin was in Real Estate for a while, a company that exclusively sold lakefront properties. He got to write off a new auger, Vexilar, and snowmobile because he “was showing interested buyers the lake details” during winter months.

They actually do remove the long runs.

I know, it’s one thing I somewhat disagree with. No metric is perfect. DVOA, just like PFF, is a tool. If someone treats it as such, it’s useful. Some fans like to use one metric only (and only when it fits their narrative), which renders any too useless.
I love how Pete approaches it, as he understands that a metric is just a tool.
DVOA seems to focus much more on efficiency than explosive plays.
Bill Barnwell does analysis for college football that keeps those separate, but I’m pretty sure explosive plays count for quite a lot in the projection system. Which they absolutely should.
Maybe the logic is that explosive plays aren’t as reliable in the NFL?
That would be my guess, they don’t see explosive plays as sustainable.
They discount (not remove) runs over 40 yards as “non-predictive”, which is something I admit is a flaw. Some players have explosive plays often enough to be predictive.
