Week 13 Power Rankings Summary

Welcome to Skoloholics! Hey, my apologies for neglecting to do this summary the past couple of weeks. To be honest, I just forgot to do them. Anyway, here we are.

The Vikings are 9-2, which is the second-best record in the NFL. There is a lot of talk in sports journalism and among us here of whether the Vikings record is legitimate. In week 4 or 5, I think there could be some merit to that, but once you’re in week 13, you’re approaching the Bill Parcells line where you are what your record says you are. Does that mean I truly think the Vikings are the second-best team in the NFL? Not necessarily. However, I also think it’s foolish to say that they’re a fluke. The Vikings have beaten some good teams this year, and only two teams have managed to get the best of the purple and gold.

Well, let’s check on the the “experts”, those who do the major NFL weekly power rankings to gauge their opinion of our favorite team, and also see how closely they rank the top 10 teams in the NFL. Does any of this matter? Heck no. However, it is fun to look at where the Vikings are ranked and to watch them move up the list as they continue on in this fun and exciting 2022 season. Here. We. Go.

Sports Illustrated – 8

Yes, Sports Illustrated is more than the swimsuit issue. They still cover sports, but I’m not sure how well they do that. They have the Vikings at number 8. I’d have the Vikes ahead of the 49ers and Bengals, at the very least. Link

  1. Chiefs
  2. Eagles
  3. Bills
  4. Dolphins
  5. Cowboys
  6. Bengals
  7. 49ers
  8. Vikings
  9. Titans
  10. Ravens

ESPN – 6

ESPN has us in a more reasonable position. Again, I get that the Vikings are behind two teams that they’ve defeated, but I wouldn’t drop the Bills much lower than they are, and the Dolphins have been red hot with Tua in the lineup. Link

  1. Chiefs
  2. Eagles
  3. Bills
  4. Cowboys
  5. Dolphins
  6. Vikings
  7. 49ers
  8. Bengals
  9. Titans
  10. Ravens

CBS Sports – 6

Interesting. You can read what I wrote for ESPN and apply it here. Link

  1. Chiefs
  2. Eagles
  3. Dolphins
  4. Bills
  5. Cowboys
  6. Vikings
  7. 49ers
  8. Bengals
  9. Ravens
  10. Titans

NFL.com

These guys shake things up a bit compared to the other three sites. They move Buffalo down the list a bit, and they include the Jets in their top 10, moving the Ravens to number 11. I can see their logic, as the Ravens just lost to the Jaguars on Sunday. Link

  1. Eagles
  2. Chiefs
  3. 49ers
  4. Cowboys
  5. Bills
  6. Dolphins
  7. Vikings
  8. Bengals
  9. Titans
  10. Jets

Summary

With a slight deviation from NFL.com, the sites have nearly identical teams in each of their top 10 lists. NFL.com has the Ravens in 11 and the Jets at numer 10, which is the only difference in their top 10 teams as compared to the other 3 sites. As mentioned earlier, as we get deeper into the season, you’re pretty much what your record says you are. Anyway, that’s where we stand as of week 13, folks!
