As of this writing, the Bills are dominating the Patriots. The halftime score is 17-7, but it isn’t nearly that close. The Bills defense is smothering the Patriots offense. The second half will likely be much of the same, but I’ll be snoozing by the time that happens. We’ll see whether I’m correct.

The balloon factory has a no hassle shoplifters policy so even if we see theft we cant say or do anything to the person we just let them leave. The company has a loss prevention team that uses cameras and other information to have about a 90% conviction rate on catching the ones we report. Much goes unreported but from what I was told thefts both internal and external only adds up to .05% of all merch so not worth the liability to allow employees to try and stop thieves. We lose our jobs if we do, so criminals know that now and hammer us regularly. Dumb fucking corps and their greed.
I’ve seen that before. I understand theft is a problem – truth be told I’ve probably walked out of a self-checkout once or twice with an item on the arm. I’d feel bad about it but they obviously view me as an employee it being self-checkout and all, and I view that as an employee discount.

We have the same policy at the balloon factory. No one can enter or leave the building alone. It has absolute nothing to do with safety and everything to do with deterring theft from employees.
Ours is more for safety, there’sa bus stop in front of the building and with it being northern Minneapolis it’s a saber precaution.

I use to hire anesthesiologists so I had to review their entire education, credentials and work history. You would not believe the number who had lost their licenses at one point or another for stealing drugs and getting caught. I mean hard core shit that puts you down. Crazy shit.
A locums anesthesiologist applied at BC, the application came through MEC because of credentialing issues. I ended up being the outspoken one like no f’ing way I want this guy working on my wife. I’m guessing he still would have got the boot but some were concerned with the acute shortage, effect on the employed anesthesiologist of working into the ground, etc.
Of all the fields I think they have the most bad actors. You have to wonder about sitting next to a patient all day who is exhaling anesthetic gas and fentanyl fumes. Throw in “relatively” easy access to drugs and it could be scary.
There have been a couple of emergent situations where syringes with fentanyl etc get left on the bedside table and I always loudly point out – there is a syringe full of _____ over there. I don’t want to touch the stuff myself and don’t want anyone having aspersions cast when the syringe disappears.

Yeah there are…I don’t know if it’s they go in to that discipline to get access to the drugs or just end up on hard times and turn to drugs of what. Usually ones educated to that level understand the consequences of these powerful drugs and of course the risk of losing a very well paying job. Crazy I just don’t get it.

I unexpectedly had a good day at work yesterday, I took a ppt presentation to the CEO of my local hospital and outlined how we need a new MRI scanner made by company X. The background is that they are leasing a horribad scanner by company Y and losing patients to other hospitals, because the CFO is chummy with the company that leases Y. CFO told chum I wanted an X and they said oh get a Z it is just as good. Z is HQ’d in Shanghai and has a reputation for service problems.
I figured I had a snowballs chance in hell.
After my presentation, he said we are going to get X.
Surprised me but good news. Until the CFO talks him back into Z. Oh well I laid it out there.
Best part is if they get X I get an enormous financial kickback and a Porsche with their logo.

Is your hospital like Sacred Heart on the show Scrubs where they only ask the guy for new equipment once a year?
I’m not familiar with that concept, have maybe seen one episode of the show which was where a radiologist went crazy saying it’s my equipment mine mine which I can empathize with.
A basic MRI out of the box with a standard array of coils typically runs between $1.3-1.6 large. Then there are service contracts, tech support, etc. So they are nothing to sneeze at, although a DaVinci or Mako robot says “please”. Have to stagger capital equipment requests.
I have a good core of seasoned and new MR technologists and they are unhappy with the Y. I am unhappy with the Y. Patients are unhappy with the Y. As I’ve promised to work here for ten years it only makes sense to get the right scanner.
BTW I did my intern year at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, does that count?

As a person in charge of capital equipment expenditures for a manufacturing company (trying to figure out if we make the parts for machine x or machine y in MT’s scenario), generally yes. Something about being able to budget out planned capital expenses for the financial year.

Got suckered into replying to someone on Twitter the other day who said this season is disappointing because now the Gopher’s window is closed.
Hmmm… I can see being disappointed in not taking advantage of a very weak West division, but they still beat Wisco and won 8 games as of now. Maybe they’re a younger person who didn’t experience any of the 80s or 90s or the guy between Mason and Kill. I think the window may be more open next year, they’ll lose a couple guys, Schmitz being the best of them but I think that Athan kid is going to be better than Morgan fairly quickly, he is certainly blessed with much better physical talent.
The 2 straight losses after being just barely ranked early in the season was really disappointing, and that stupid Iowa game was so winnable, but yeah outside of losing Schmitz and Ibrahim I think the offense might have more going for it next year with the young Grecian at QB (& all the young talent) with more experience and Autmann-Bell coming back too.
Maybe vs preseason projections it was a little disappointing, but I’m pretty happy that the floor is now 8-9 wins considering I became a fan when I started college in 2010.

Slumberland looked like it could be a good kiddo show.
We watched Slumberland last Saturday. 7 & 10 yr old liked it.

Oh, I can’t have stuff on my floor, other than my pistol (in the case, I try to do things legally). Garbage on my floor would literally drive me crazy. I keep it in one spot, preferably in a bag until we stop.
Grown kids, no problem.
Case? My guns are never in cases unless I have to put them in the camper or in the bed of the pickup. They don’t do any good if they are cased and unloaded.
I keep mine in a fingerprint little gun safe. That way if they walk away I can at least tell the cops I did the best I could to keep ’em out of criminal hands.
Although I once almost forgot to take a pistol out of the safe before I drove into Canada. Yeah that would have sucked.
reminds me.. need to go put a few rounds through my 9mm this weekend now that gun season is wrapped up.

Yeah I feel like guns as family heir looms is a good thing. My grandpa had two 2 of those 99Es, one a .308 and one a .243, my older brother got the .243. Gramps also bought a shitload of surplus military rounds for them, I didn’t need to buy any until like 20 years after I got the rifle.

I’d like to have a kid or two. Life hasn’t exactly lined up that way for me so far (decent chunk of that is my own fault), but I would like to. Without any Kodiak advice, that is.
I was 37 when our first kiddo was born, you have lots of time, man. No hurry.
There’s a little bit of nagging worry with the rising risks of birth defects as you get older, but all things considered I think I’d prefer to have kids once I have some semblance of stability vs very young.
Not for dudes there isn’t really a rising risk for birth defects, my wife was 30 when she had our first and 33 with the second, which not any kind of high risk age, though they did call me a geriatric dad at 40 y/o for the second one.

IDK, I was 36 when we got married, she was 29, not really a big deal then but it would have been when I was 18.
