They should just hire Cousins as the DC and be done with it.

Yeah, had a few days with KAM at the senior bowl so basically this means he took one look at our roster and thought better chance in Carolina. Results matter in this business they don’t give a damn about what you inherited only the results you produce don’t blame him.

Flores isn’t going to take this job either. He’s on the cusp of a permanent head coaching position. To take this depleted aged out roster with undeveloped rookies is not a job for somebody who’s on the cusp and proven. This is a job for an unproven position coach who’s ready to take a stab at being a coordinator not a head coach candidate.

Senior Bowl practice ranking by some dude.
Thought it was interesting given the Vikes need a center.

3. Minnesota C John Michael Schmitzcomment imageVasha Hunt-USA TODAY Sports
When you have a sixth-year senior entering the draft, the hope is that you have a relatively finished product that you don’t need to develop much. That’s Minnesota center Schmitz.
On tape, you see him be the model of consistency. He can reach block, anchor in pass protection, climb to the second level and move relatively well. What set him apart was how he continuously tried to body dudes in drills. Schmitz was always trying to finish his opponent by destroying them. His performance might have earned himself a trip to the first round.

Maybe a trade back for a few more picks and still get him and have more picks for the defense?

Germaine Pratt (Bengals) might be available this year. I think that’s a guy we could look to sign. Not sure about his price tag, but he’s 27 years old and he led Cincinnati in passes defended (10) and was second on the team in tackles.

pff… has this to say.

51. LB GERMAINE PRATTCINCINNATI BENGALS

Contract Projection: Three years, $24.75 million ($8.25M per year); $14.75 million total guaranteed

With both Bengals starting safeties in Jessie Bates III and Vonn Bell pending free agents, a big extension for wide receiver Tee Higginslikely in play and fellow off-ball linebacker Logan Wilson also eligible for an extension after the season, it’s possible Pratt hits the market even after a career year.

Pratt’s 90.1 coverage grade was the best mark in the NFL. He missed just two tackles in coverage and allowed only four explosive receptions. Pratt didn’t miss many tackles as a run defender, either, whiffing on just 5.9% of opportunities after three straight seasons above 10% to start his career. Last but certainly not least, Pratt also peaked at the right time, with his 90.1 overall grade since Week 8 the top mark among linebackers.

Cool… never seen him listed at 235, but still he’s a bit small for me. I was worried when he went out with a knee injury in the first game he played significant snaps, then a concussion. Not sure if he can last 17 games in the NFL. Just my opinion though.

16. DI DALVIN TOMLINSONMINNESOTA VIKINGS

Contract Projection: Three years, $35.25 million ($11.75M per year); $23.25 million total guaranteed
Tomlinson has been shuffled around on the interior after playing mostly nose tackle with the New York Giants to start his career, with Minnesota lining him up more as a three-technique when playing alongside Michael Pierce (in 2021) or Harrison Phillips. Tomlinson has never missed more than five tackles in a season, and his 83.0 run-defense grade since 2017 is a top-16 mark at the position.

While Tomlinson missed Weeks 9-12 due to injury, he managed to post a career-best 79.1 pass-rush grade and a sixth straight season to start his career grading above 74.0 overall. He’s a better fit as a zero- or one-technique, with his 55 tackles for loss or no gain since 2017 the third-most among interior players and with his pass-rush upside better deployed as an added benefit but not the primary feature.

33. CB PATRICK PETERSONMINNESOTA VIKINGS

Contract Projection: One year, $5 million; $4 million total guaranteed

Peterson’s 80.7 grade in 2022 was the second-highest mark of his illustrious 12-year career, an impressive accomplishment this far down the road. Peterson intercepted 6.9% of passes thrown into his coverage this season, the fifth-best mark in the NFL, but his value is seen outside of just the turnovers. Peterson’s 82.5 coverage grade ended up trailing only three other players, including New York Jetsrookie phenom Sauce Gardner, with his 0.81 yards per coverage snap allowed also a top-15 mark.

The Vikings’ cornerback situation outside of Peterson in 2022 was a struggle almost every week, and his consistent performance was a major reason they managed to win close games despite not looking like a true top team based on various underlying metrics.

90. C GARRETT BRADBURYMINNESOTA VIKINGS

Contract Projection: Three years, $18.75 million ($6.25M per year); $10 million total guaranteed

The former first-rounder earned career-high grades as a pass-blocker and run-blocker in 2022, with his 68.1 pass-block grade representing an improvement of nearly 15 grading points. His 72.4 run-blocking grade is his third straight mark of 67.0 or better.

Bradbury was drafted early because he has the athleticism to get to the second level in an outside-zone-heavy rushing attack, but he simply lacks the strength to anchor as a pass protector, especially with the league’s interior pass-rushers getting better and better. Nevertheless, it was good to see major growth in pass protection in 2022, but the odds are it will never be a strength of his game.

I think KAM had a plan for this year, during last year’s draft when it comes to the DB’s. Hoping to shed Hit Man’s contract, he drafted Cine. PP is aging, even though he played very well this year so he drafted Booth. I think the defensive backfield he was trying to establish looks something like this:

Safeties – Cine and Bynum
CB’s – Booth, Evans, Dantzler

You could be close. These guys dont draft for 1 year without seeing the bigger picture and nobody was predicting Cines injury.

I am curious what Bynum would look like as a slot guy if they were to bring in another young safety.

Out of all the “aging vets” I would say that Smith has the highest chance of sticking around.

Honestly I don’t think they were left with a mess. The offense didn’t need hardly any work except the O-line. The defense had some decent talent as well in my opinion. Had a blend of veteran leadership and some young bucks that could be really good. The cupboard wasn’t bare in my opinion. Contracts a mess though for sure.

Here is X. And they can split the dead money from this contract between 2 years.

OTC has his value at 5.5m so we’ll use that with 11.7m dead.

pay him 10m this year with 5.5m in Sakarya and 4.5 against his dead…. And you have 7.2m in a void year for next year rather than 11.7 this year or
The 19.1m he’s due on the current deal.

My first mock draft of the season and Mick’s first opportunity to shit on it. I’d be over the moon if we could pull this draft off. Early elite skill set with Ringo who is absolutely a day one starter, Sewell who played his ass off at Oregon and would be the perfect Kendricks replacement to let him go to FA. Pick up a great #3 WR in Bell to develop and then the best center in the Draft who I also believe would start day one and send Turdberry to FA. Get an elite RB with a ton of miles and older than five who could play right away. Throw in a trade back to get a few best player starters with their college teams late and we have a very successful draft. Too bad none of it will come true.

Ringo has elite coverage skills and is perfect for a 3/4 scheme. He would instantly make our secondary better IF he can play within the scheme and not over pursue. If Cine comes back and meets his potential there’s two cornerstones to build around.

He was there at 23 when I picked. Not a bad pick at all, the CB class is deep but he doesn’t come close to the range of skill sets Ringo brings. Ringo to me could be a Parsons level player albeit at a different position. I think the risk to draft him early is warranted.

Evening Skolhols….
Hope all have been well, prospering and healthy.
Been a Birds Eye view the last few weeks. A comment here, a one-liner there. If I’m being honest I’ve had my fill of the KC debate. He’s our QB. And likely here for another season or two. I want elite, clutch, cold-blooded on 4th & 8 Kirk – don’t know if he’s in there.

All is well. Been traveling a bit. Liked the first CRV I bought the wife so much I bought a 2nd one. Hit the road with the mutt for a few weeks. Headed south to Oklahoma and looped thru the Texas panhandle and back up thru Colorado – back in Huskerville tomorrow and then heading toward Nashville for a week or two. This is the worst part of the year. The beginning of the long, slow offseason with endless prognostications. Pitchers and catchers report soon though. There is some relief from the boredom coming soon.

Damn…got locked out of my account here all day. Said I tried to many log in attempts, my ipad saves the password I never even tried more than once and it had me on a 48 hr lock out. The timer was screwed up and it only lasted all day. Brad tried to fix it to no avail I have no idea what the hell was going on so I’m just going to leave again.

Nah it works when I’m not timed out. Brad tried a few other things also, after my post above I checked back a few hours later tried to comment and it said nonce is invalid, I refreshed the system it auto logged me out and put me on the too man log in attempts error with a 3 hr timer and I hadn’t even tried to log in. Something is fishy, I use chrome and cleared all the cookies and it still did it. I’m on IOS so I doubt seriously it’s a hack issue on my end. It’s working this morning maybe its ok now.

10th rated Guard is pretty good. Our Tackles rated pretty highly I think too. Three out of five positions are definitely solid. If Ingram develops, we are really in good shape with only the center a question mark. Skill positions aren’t too bad either really. Would think a second year in the offense with KOC that we would be pretty good in that phase next year.

Weird. Too bad the Vikings weren’t looking to draft a safety at in the first round.

In all honesty, would he really have succeed in the Donatell defense of last year?

Sarcasm.

I wanted Hamilton as well. Even more so than Jamo.

Didn’t hate Cine as a prospect but dang. Liked Pitre over Cine and he had a hell of a year.

Same with Marcus Jones over Booth.

Blah, dont make us relive it again brad.

I wanted Jamo, Hamilton or Jordan Davis in that order tbh. Jamo was the right pick as the replacement for Thielen. Would have had a year to learn behind him, would have been the easy transition away from Thielen’s cap hit for this year. It was the easy prudent choice and we would have a top level #2 right now across from JJ. KAM absolutely blew it.

Still not a huge Davis fan.

Even with the trade down they could’ve gone different direction.

I really don’t know what influence Ed had on it… with how the defense looked its really tough to say.

Are those guys Ed wanted? If so.. how can he be gone after a year.

Lots of questions and not a ton of answers.

Will probably end up trading back again but I don’t know if at 23 there will be any “cant miss” type of guys. May be better served moving back and picking up what you can pickwise.
