Pro Bowl
We were on a little mini-vacation on Friday and Saturday, so we missed most of the Pro Bowl games, although we did catch the flag football game last night. Did anyone watch that last night? It wasn’t so bad, it looked like everyone was having fun. The Pro Bowl has been a flag football game for many years, they’ve just made it official now. JJ made some plays, of course, and Hockenson had some nice plays as well.
To tell you how deep they had to dig for players, Tyler Huntley was named to the Pro Bowl games, even though he only started four games last year (and didn’t play overly well in those 4 games). If a few more guys would have declined to play, they’d have had to bring dudes out of retirement. I’ll bet Ponder would be available.
The refs even found a way to be annoying once or twice, even in a flag football game. That’s hard to do, but not for the NFL. In the end, @the important part is who won the game@, and the NFC won the Pro Bowl last night, link courtesy of NFL.com.

This obviously happened AFTER Mick posted that story. SI announced that the Panthers hired Ejiro Evero to be their defensive coordinator. It might be Flores or bust for the Vikings, according to SI. I’d be ecastatic with Flores.
Vikings.com looks at the Minnesota Vikings 2023 opponents. There are a few cities I’d visit for our away opponents. Carolina, Atlanta, Denver, Vegas, and Cincinnatti would all be places we’d go. We want to try to visit at least one away stadium a year, so at least we have more than one or two options this year.

Hmm, we’re going to find out one way or the other what the truth is about Flores. No one doubts his ability as a defensive coach. Who knows whether all this stuff that came out from Miami is true. Have to admit I didn’t like it that he threw pretty much every team he ever interviewed with for HC into his lawsuit.

Ran 5.6 miles today, under an 8 minute pace, approaching a 7:30 pace. Man, it feels good to be running again. Hopefully I can be back in my normal running shape by spring.

Some who watched the Pro Bowl said it was surprisingly good…I didn’t watch it…but anything had to be an improvement over the last several years….
It was something to watch. More eventful than the fake pseudo-flag football they’ve been playing the last decade or more. Players looked to be having fun.

Vikings will regress off 13 wins. The schedule is super tough but tough for NFCN in general. Division winner likely gets it with 11 wins maybe even 10.
Wrong, Lions will win at least 15. They’re stacked and will only lose when they start sitting players because everything is locked up. The Vikings may as well not even try. Start building a team for 2030.

Another problem Vikings have is they can’t draft BPA wirh all the issues with defense. They’ll likely have to draft another safety and DB early. KAM really whiffed on the draft on defense

Yeah, remains to be seen, and like I said, it’s a BIG if. Just saying that if one or both can manage to live up to their draft position, we’re in a MUCH better spot than we appear to be right now.

What’s scary is we all know, “Not the same player” means not the same speed, burst etc… so if he is to be effective it means he’d have to adjust and step up mentally but reports we got last year was the reason we wasn’t seeing the field was because of the mental side.

If (big if) Cine and Booth both rebound next year, how much better does our defensive situation become? That’s a huge boost. Still have problems at linebacker and DL, but our secondary is MUCH better if both of those guys become starter caliber.

This offseason will be fun to see how it goes. This to me is really KAM and KOC’s first off-season. I think the Vikings are such a Frankenstein on offense and defense. Really need to have complimentary parts. Like for example, I don’t think Turdberry is a bad center, I think he is bad fit for Kirk Cousins but a great fit for an outside zone running team and for an athletic QB with pocket presence. Things like that. Same thing goes for the defense. PP isn’t bad, Harry isn’t bad, Kendricks isn’t bad etc… but they just don’t seem to fit that 3-4 scheme and of course they are aging… I’m open to anything. 13 win season is not a crap season, it just isn’t. But that defense is a big problem. The offense is the strength of the team but let’s get a defense to compliment it and a center with some anchor.
Yeah, they really need to overhaul the defense, it was abysmal last year. I’m sure that once they have new guy in place, they’ll start making personnel moves.
Offense is in good shape, FTMP. They have the O-line trending in the right direction &some young talented playmakers (JJ & Hock). Need to do something with AT & his contract. Cook may play one more year here, we’ll see.
Why does Cook just seem “sneaky fast” now? Like for real, he has to have speed, hey can break a huge chunk but it just doesn’t seem like he has the same burst he use to.

Dalvin actually had more YPC than Henry, & was 6th in the league in rushing despite only having 264 rush attempts. He also only had 5 rushes of 20+ yards, so what you say may be true.
It seems like he’s less of a threat, but he’s still a solid contributor on offense. I think we neglected the running game far too often last year, and gave Dalvin a lot of carries when EVERYONE knew we were running & they’d lose 3 yards.
That’s true too. Far too often it just seemed like we ran when everyone knew we were going to run agreed. Easy to call a defense against that. ESPECIALLY with Hock, we should be play actioning at times to set up the run.

friend from church heard my snowblower sucks, or i suck at winterizing (i guess summerizing) or it’s a lemon or whatever, and he wanted to fix it up for me.
so he took it and spent a couple hours on it and it’s running real nice now.
ready to repay all my neighbors for all their help this winter, although i would be ok if it didn’t snow another inch this year

i use non oxygenated fuel for all my small engines.
i honestly think i have a weird lemon of a snowblower. i have done just about every way to “summerize” it after the winter season, have issues every year.

Non-oxygenated gasoline is a form of gasoline that has no additives, which increase the oxygen content of the fuel. This fuel has no ethanol or any other oxygenate. Therefore, it reduces the corrosion problems of the engine. This makes it a good choice for vehicles that we store for a long time in off-seasons

Those are really the only two options for storage:
1) Fill tank, add SeaFoam or Sta-Bil, run for 5 minutes, store.
2) Run gas all the way out at the end of winter, store.
I’m a Number 1 guy.
My gut tells me empty tanks have potential to collect moisture over the non-use period.

Man AP was good. I use to say I thought Barry was the GOAT of all time, any position because you had one guy to prep for and he still kicked ass. AP had similar seasons in Minnesota where he was really the only threat and still got it done. Great video. Thanks

Yep, 2012 was a year that I’ll never forget. He carried that entire shitty team to the playoffs. Teams KNEW the Vikings were gonna hand it off to him, & he still rattled off 170 yards a game the entire second half of the year.
Him and Allen on defense were legend status that year.
So much fun. We won that game against the Texans in week 15 or something. Nobody expected us to win that, but we did. Knocked up the Peckers in the final week to make the playoffs.

watched a bit of the pro bowl thing. While it was very lame in a lot of ways, at least it did look like the players were having fun. The game has been so bad for so long that they had to do something.
It was more entertaining than the grammy awards. I really hate awards shows but wanted to watch a bit since I do not know who most of those artists are. Saw one really good performance by Stevie Wonder and did not know Chris Stapleton was so damned good.
We made it about an hour, wife “find something else to watch”.

Yeah we’re officially old men yelling at clouds. I didn’t watch a sec of the Grammy’s due to the fact music today sucks and is not artists actually playing instruments and good vocals its dubbed over a million times altered and layered in pre recorded sounds and vocals. Stapleton is the real deal, he could grab a stool, guitar and belt out concert worth material. He wrote songs for years in Nashville to make a pittance to survive before he got his break.
I watched some Cheers last night also. I have never watched an award show.

Mike Pettine your next Vikings DC
I believe how well our defense ends up being is more on KAM reducing our cap, hitting on some key FA and pulling a rabbit out of his ass in the draft. Thing now is he might be forced to keep some of our aged out high priced vets since he can’t get a proper coach to start a defensive rebuild. He may say fook it and hire Pettine keep our vets and their dead hits for another year and field a suck fest defensive once again looking to 2024 to reboot with more cap space.
Most of our high priced vets we’d like to jettison now but with high dead hits their dead hits are cut in half next year if we cut them. Quick math it’s a $23 mill difference in deadhits just waiting until next year to cut the guys below.

Maybe this is the year….if they are stuck hiring Pettine and fielding what looks to be either a redo of last season OR a jettison of players and a bunch of unproven young players and some cheap retread FA’s, fans might balk and say see you next year. If it’s the latter with new guys I think fans hold out hope it will work then bail mid season when it’s a shit show.
Crazy thing the Wilf’s doubled down and increased season ticket prices significantly for 2023. I see many a fan saying…nope not this year.
