I hope you all survived Valentine’s Day, it’s a battle every year. We’re having a little mini snow storm here in Bismarck, the wind is howling outside, and it made me remember how much I dislike this time of year, other than the ice fishing. Winter has been trudging on for what seems like forever, and in North Dakota, you know very well that this can continue into April. Every year from early February until April, I question why I moved back up here. I’ll be fine once spring gets here, but I’m really tired of winter, and I miss the south. It’ll pass.

I was talking to a guy at the balloon factory today about Lamar and how Baltimore should say “You know what, we’re not paying you Watson level guarantee so see ya later.” Atlanta would be a good fit if they’re willing to pony up the cash. Ravens front office is too smart to over pay on this one but we’ll see.

The tag is the way to go but I know he’ll be majorly pissed if he’s on yet another prove it year. They could do the conditional tag and get the option to match an offer and if they pass I think they get a couple 1st rd picks out of it so that’s the way to go.
Franchise tag him then trade him. You’ll get more in return than you would in compensatory picks. Even on the tag, you could get at least a 1 and more, if not multiple 1s.
They failed to torpedoe their team by overpaying one overhyped QB, so they’re going to try to overpay another. Lamar has never played an entire season.
I would still say Baltimore is the most likely potential suitor since, you know, they can franchise tag him.

I fear after reading the comments from Flores presser he’s going to try and show with the majority of the players we have he can get more out of them. I hope that’s not the case but it sounds like many men think, I would have done this or that, and then spend more time trying to prove to themselves they’re better instead of seeing the talent level is really in need of a work over and many of the current players can contribute but some need to go.
I don’t disagree that the defense needs a talent infusion but isn’t the essence of a great coach getting more out of players than maybe even the player him/herself believes is possible?

Donatell was a problem, but lack of talent is also an issue. The team is a year older than they were last year, I think trying to run it back with the same personnel will be an abysmal failure.

That’s where I have a problem, running it back with 90% of the same players and expecting to improve the defense by like 5+ ppg is not realistic and not going to make you as SB caliber D. They can plan to “chase” a SB all they want but the reality is they don’t have the players capable and apparently will refuse to do anything abou tit.

I think bringing in Z. Smith, Hockenson, and Phillips were excellent moves. Keeping Cousins was also an excellent move. Ingram may end up being “the guy” too in his second year. Booth and Cine may pan out as well. So for the past 12 months they’ve been doing some good things. No one is perfect though, and some things are still a work in progress. The offense regressed under KOC a little this year and the kicker was once again amongst the worst in the league. We had a DC who was even more passive than Zim was in his last few years.
So yes, there’s still work to be done, but the Vikings do have some talent and the rookie HC and GM can now assess and evolve after their first year.
Smith is a wash since he was and could continue to be non existent after his injury reaggravation. He said he was 100% for the play off game but looked anything from it. Hock was good. Everything outside of those is a negative to contend in the next 2-4 years. They also have a lot of cleaning house to do on the defense but that remains to be seen. This team wont get to the NFCCG in the next 2 years at its current rate and plan.

I could see Kendricks and Hicks gone with an FA and assmoah taking their places. I think Smith will restructure, Thielen I think the same. Tomlinson is likely gone in FA, Of other FAs I think they try to bring Shelley back, it wouldn’t make sense from a scheme fit but maybe they try to bring back PP, though I don’t know why they would. I would let all the FAs other than Shelley leave and cut kendricks, hicks, and probably Smith unless he’d agree to a substantial paycut. I would outright cut Thielen, partly because he’s declining and likely falls off a cliff next year or the year after, but also because it would piss off all his fanboys and I would laugh at them.
I think they should draft WR round 1. Dump AT. Easy.
KJ WR3 and convert Reagor to gadget type back like CP/Harvin. He’s a little smaller than both of them but he’s crazy fast and still got some bulk to him. Sucks as WR but might as well use him for 1 year. Believe his money hits us whether we cut him or keep him

As I mentioned last week, I want to try to get the worst “reasonable” bad grade in a mock draft possible. It is just a fun game I made up for myself. Here was my first try.
If you have a chance to make a somewhat lopsided trade within your division, you have to take it, so I traded with the Packers.
I then took a center because he is from Minnesota, so I played the homer card there. Plus we need a center. Ergo, reasonable.
Next up, I picked a wide receiver to fill Theilen’s possible void.
The rationale for taking a safety is that the safeties we drafted last year are bad.
HB is next because isn’t Ham and maybe Mattison going to be gone?
