Wow, I had Monday and Tuesday off of work, and it threw me off. My son was out of school those days, so he & I were busy doing things. My wife is still recovering from rotator cuff surgery, so I’ve been playing nurse and chauffeur for her, too. It’s been a bit chaotic. I totally forgot about posting thread on Monday, then fell asleep in the chair Monday night & forgot to post Tuesday’s thread. Thanks to Lifer, Skoldiers, and Mick for covering for me.
Not much out there as far as football news, which is pretty much the norm for this time of year. I see that Mike Priefer has been fired as ST coordinator in Cleveland. Man, hearing that name brings back memories. The “Kluwe situation” was one of those major melt-down issues back at the DN, comments were turned off & everything. Fun times!

When I was in the National guard we went out several times a year to help with snow removal during blizzards, however we were an engineering unit (think earth moving not combat engineering) so we had all the equipment like 20 ton dumps, loaders, etc. To do so.
Ah, I was in a combat engineering battalion. We blew shit up. We also deployed to the fires in Idaho back in 1994-95.

We had ordered a second dog collar from Garmin for our second choco, he seemed to respond well to beeps or vibration so rarely needed to use shocks. Did notice he seemed impervious to light shocks while the older dog stops whatever nonsense with a single shock at “1”. One of the horses foaled and the younger choco seemed to be in danger of getting a hoof to the head so I escalated to a “10” with no effect. I then tested on my forearm and realized the new collar beeps and vibrates but does not deliver shock.
I called Garmin expecting all kinds of gruff talk but after confirming the s/n and that another collar works with the transmitter they sent me a shipping label and said they would fix it. That was easier than I expected.
They probably respond differently to collars but you are doing right. You don’t want to inflict pain, just get his/hers attention.
Was funny as I realized of course the month old collar never worked properly. The times I yelled GET YOUR ASS AWAY FROM THAT BULL he was only responding to my voice not the electrical stimulation. I thought he was all tuff and didn’t feel the shock…until I put the older collar on the younger dog, touched him at “1” he got that neck jump and immediately sat.
I think we have our answer for elementary school kids.

Netflix announced today its first partnership with the NFL: Quarterback, a new docu-series that will take a unique look at each season, told through the lens of NFL quarterbacks. This year, the series features exclusive, unprecedented access to Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota from the beginning of the 2022 season to its conclusion, following them on and off the field, from inside the huddle with teammates to inside their homes with their families. It will premiere in 2023.
Netflix has some good documentaries.
I’m also watching Mind Hunter, it’s a really good series. As much as I dislike most TV series, this one is pretty good. It’s about when the FBI first established their profiling system for serial killers, really cool story. Some dumbass drama in it, but a lot of interesting content.

If you actually watch his performances week to week I would think he makes enough “wow” throws to convince people of his value. I guarantee KOC was standing on the sidelines saying to himself “nope… I ain’t got THAT throw in my arsenal”.
Jay Gruden who was a pretty good QB, said it to Cousins on the sidelines a number of times… “no way I could have made that throw”. Playing QB in the NFL is very hard.

I don’t think it matters what critics think or say. Cousins has lasted and beaten out RGIII who the Redskins sold the farm for. He beat Bruce Allen who hated having to pay him. He beat the odds as a 4th round pick who has been a starter now for eight seasons. He knows he can and does play at a high level.
My point above is not so much Cousins play on the field…it’s well known now he’s a top 5 talent in the QB pecking order. I’m talking about what this show will reveal about his preparations off the field and how he conducts himself as a professional. Probably not a better QB in the league in that respect.

Tesla has recalled more than 362,000 vehicles because its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system may cause a crash.
The FSD Beta system may allow the vehicle to act unsafe around intersections, such as traveling straight through an intersection while in a turn-only lane, entering a stop sign-controlled intersection without coming to a complete stop, or proceeding into an intersection during a steady yellow traffic signal without due caution.
Last year, Tesla recalled more than 50,000 cars that might roll through stop signs, but this recall affects a much wider swath of the company’s cars and customers. The NHTSA also said “the [FSD] system may respond insufficiently to changes in posted speed limits or not adequately account for the driver’s adjustment of the vehicle’s speed to exceed posted speed limits.”
The remedy for the recall is an over-the-air update, but there’s no word on when owners can expect it to roll out. The NHTSA says they expect the update to come in the next few weeks, but Tesla hasn’t confirmed this timeline. If you own a Model 3, Model Y, Model X or Model S with FSD your car may be affected. Recall notices will be sent out via mail by April 15, but more proactive customers can also call the Tesla customer service line (1-877-798-3752) and ask about the recall. The NHTSA campaign number for this particular Tesla recall is 23V085000, while Tesla’s internal recall code is SB-23-00-001.

This is great. When you collapse a thread, and someone comments under that thread, the little thing will pop up that there’s a comment, but if you click on it, it just takes you to the top of the page and not to the comment. In the interest of spurring discussion and being part of the solution I will offer this rant on some issues my Girlfriend is dealing with.
She is a 1st grade teacher with 25 students. She has several little terrors this year.
1st one does not want to be in the classroom and be made to learn so he is as disruptive as possible. He has started grabbing other students privates and squeezing. He knocked down a Special Ed student on the playground and was dry humping her when he got pulled off. Admin ‘talks to him’ and send him back to the classroom. One parent has already pulled her child after repeated Sexual Assaults.
2nd is a chubby kid who has decided he is starving. He will go thru the lunch line multiple times and has even been seen going thru the trash. Once he is back in the classroom he will throw up and cry that ‘his tummy hurts’. GF will send him to the nurse and after talking to the parent they will send him back.
GF is trying to teach the other 23 students to read and Admin is pressuring her NOT to send these kids up to the office. She is not trained to deal with Sexual Assaults or Medical Issues and would be in the crosshairs if she ‘did nothing’ and blame needed to be placed.
She had a parent come into her classroom, throw her child’s homework on her desk at tell her “It is your job to teach my kid not mine, if you don’t want to do your job then just quit! Stop sending ‘your work’ home for me to do”.
And they wonder why so many teachers are quitting.

We’ve been so blessed with good teachers ever since Eli has been in school. Every one of them has been elite, and that isn’t an exaggeration.
My wife substitute teaches, and while she has to deal with some of the things you describe, the school is REALLY good at handling the troubled kids. Our school system is pretty dang good here in Bismarck, I’m grateful.
I had a Pvt in my Platoon in Ft Carson, he had been a teacher in ND. He could not feed is wife and three kids on what they paid him so he joined the Army as a Private. It was a pay raise for him.
So very sad.

Lack of core family structure/ father figures is really to blame for all of this. Both of those kids more than likely have a shitty home life and are neglected physically, mentally and nutritionally by whatever people they call “parents”. I feel bad for the GF, but she should have known/ been warned about that when going to school for this. Its been getting worse and worse the past decade. My 2nd oldest sister teaches 2nd grade and goes through similar struggles. Kids suck, but thats because their parents suck.
Oh they absolutely have a shitting home life.
And the teachers are expected to parent 25 kids while they teach them while working around all of the ‘woke’ BS being thrown at them.
‘One more year’ is her Mantra every morning when she leaves for work.

I’ve often said I could never teach because I would kill some kids. But now that you mention it, I would probably kill a few parents also. Sometime the parents are stupider than the kids.
Bad parents usually equals bad kids.
Occasionally a good kid will grow past it, sometimes a bad kid will come from good parents.
But %’s are lower on those outcomes.
My parents were decent, I wasn’t a particularly great kid though. I found school very boring outside of PE and recess. Pretty much every single report card from 1st grade through Jr. High had a teacher comment “is easily distracted and wastes time in class”. Though I didn’t sexually assault anyone or dry hump disabled kids.

Only reason I passed English was lot of extra credit book reports.
Was surprised when I joined the Army and my scores were high end.
Guess I accidentally learned some stuff along the way.
I had straight As until I discovered girls and beer in 7th grade, then I stopped giving a shit until my sophomore year when I realized that good grades got me out of semester tests & allowed me to skip study hall. Then I was back on the honor roll so I could have more time to party.

I hear ya’. I had the opposite problem, I always had fun drinking, which is why I loved it so much. I was functional, always held down a job & showed up every day, but it was a problem. Once I start drinking, I’m in it 100%, no middle or slow gear for me.
As the non-drinker in the group I was usually the Designated Driver.
Watching others get stupid drunk because ‘they deserved it’ was another turn off for me.
I’ve found that I don’t like being around drunk people when I’m not one of them. If you aren’t drunk yourself, drunk people are annoying.

Teach the 23, work with the crappy kids what amount she can. At the end of the day, it’s not her responsibility to make sure the kid grows up well, just do the best she can with the time she has. The world needs ditch diggers too, but not at the expense of a potential doctor, etc.
School has them for 6hrs, she has them for about 4(lunch/recess/assemblies/etc), the woke BS brings it down to about 3.
i.e. english as a 2nd language students have to go get an extra hour of instruction. While they are gone she not allowed to teach the rest of the students anything. Don’t want those 2nd language students to miss out. Another hour she can’t teach.
That’s ridiculous. I would pull my kids from that school so fast.

SoCal Thanks for sharing your wifes struggles…education has gotten so bad..and many good teachers are leaving….My wife just recently retired after 35 years of teaching, she was really good at her job but decided she had to quit due to the woke BS, and the administration mandates that just have nothing to do with educating our children.

I advise her to call the cops when the one kid keeps assaulting other students and to call an ambulance when the other one keeps throwing up and nurse sends him right back.
But she has one more school year (to get to 20 and lock in the benefits) so she doesn’t want to rock the boat and force Admin to do their jobs.
The only thing that would make the admins do their jobs is a lawsuit by the parents of the other kids.
It has not worked with Gender Transitions/CRT and keeping parents informed about things that effect their kids.

A few thoughts:
Either the Vikings sign Kirk to an extension, or they need to put a succession plan into action. They have the 23rd pick, and only 3 other picks plus compensatory at the moment. I believe that they’ll trade a couple older vets to recoup picks prior to the draft. Do they draft a QB? If so, who?
If they don’t draft a QB, then they’ll likely sign Kirk to an extension. They should do it sooner rather than later, if that’s the direction they’re going. I don’t agree with this, but it appears that the front office may go this route.
Agreed, neither QB deserves anywhere close to that money. I also agree the Vikings will probably start the draft with 5-6 picks and will trade down out of the first and possibly trade up in the 2-3 rounds. They should be drafting a QB regardless. I dont want an extension but if they do it should be a 1 year for $28-$33 mil, no more.
It’ll be at least 40 mil/year and most likely 45 mil/year and fully guaranteed as Kirk does not do long term or nonguaranteed contracts. He gives no fucks about flexibility for the cap.
