Alright, so we had the combine last week and over the weekend. I watched quite a bit here and there, especially on QB day. Guys who stood out to me in the QB class are Richardson, McKee, and Bennett looked really good. Stroud looked good as well, but I don’t think that the Vikings have a shot at him, and I’m glad, because no good NFL QB has ever come out of Ohio State. Anyhoo, I really liked what I saw from McKee, he has a great arm, a quick release, and seems to have “QB intelligence”, which is vital in the NFL.
I still find it amusing that some folks put more stock in the underwear olympics than they do in 3 years of game film on a dude. But hey, it’s something to watch, and it’s fun to watch guys who we’ve been following through the college season. Mauch from NDSU looked phenomenol yesterday, and he’s prepared to play any of the 5 positions on the O-line, so maybe that’s a guy the Vikings could look at? I’m never against drafting someone from the Dakotas.
The next thing we football fans have to look forward to is the beginning of free agency, which I believe is on March 15th at 3:00 central.

Tomorrow night the Curse of Oak Island Season 10 Episode 16 premiers. Read the following about the episode:
The upcoming episode, is titled “Striking Gold.” Fans can expect more excitement as The Fellowship is certain that they’re closer than ever to an offset chamber when the probe drilling operation in the garden shaft finally gets underway.
My prediction is…
They don’t find the treasure.

If you’ve ever been around a burning car, it’s scary. Kudo’s to those who risked their lives.
Can’t say that I have. Been in plenty of wrecked ones.
LOL, right?
Absolutely.
Decent read by everyone’s favorite strib reporter.
I wonder if the Vikings should make a play for Devon Bush as a project.
Geno smith gets 35 mil AAV
Good for him.
If he wasn’t set for life… he is now.
Now the Seahawks will probably go DE in the draft at 5.
Good WVU QB earned it the right way even when everyone doubted him. One of the best comeback stories ever. After the Jets he was labeled a bust.
We can win this draft if KAM sets his ego aside.
yeah what was the first trade to move back?
Nevermind… chicago gave you all their picks.
Having to cut players for salary cap reasons happens to pretty much every team in the NFL. Takes talent and luck to bring in just the right players at just the right cost at just the right time. We’ll see what KAM does this off-season. Cutting players and bringing in a new guy for less money usually doesn’t result in raising the team’s talent level.
You heard it here first folks. Extending and keeping old players past the prime and paying them market value elevates the team and gets SBs
Interpretation isn’t really your thing…
Im obviously pushing buttons and being sarcastic, but only to a point. Interacting online isn’t really your thing…
Just because you’re online doesn’t mean you have to be a dick.
Belichick had the salary cap hack going letting guys go when they’re still in their prime for massive draft collateral to reload and keep going. I loved that roster planning way.
Here in MN we’re more worried about everyones feels and keep guys until they’re washed and then keep them around doing team promotional crap to sell shit. Dumb
Some franchises are focused longterm on winning championships. Some are not.
Thats what i’m saying.
Its really old.
Like hearing that AT was re-signed. No point unless all you want to do is sell tickets and jerseys… not win championships.
You could argue that you will sell more jerseys by getting rid of him. Keep bringing in new players to make all the fans get new jerseys and profit.
Late to dance, what i miss?
Kendricks gone
Liked him in a 4-3, big time cover guy with speed. Boy, i have no idea what’s coming with cap and dead money. Going to be a very new team, i think.
Cousins to the Raiders, Rodgers coming here…
LOL All you got NVF?
Yeah, I’m done… grin.
With you on KC. What if Daniels gets 40 mil? we are just screwed on internal cap hits. Not pretty.
The market is the market. Cousins is one of the best QB’s in the league and owns two of the top four passing TD seasons in Vikings history. Since he’s been a Viking only three QB’s in the league have thrown more TD’s than Cousins. If he costs too much, then the Vikings should play him this year, let his contract expire and he can walk.
You know, like the Redskins did after franchise tagging him twice. Worked out great for them.
The dude can toss dimes. He’s had shit protection for years. I honestly can’t understand why people on here wan’t to beat on him that much.
Minnesota legislator: ‘I’m sick of White Christians’ adopting Native American babies, continuing ‘genocide’ | Fox News
Definitely need to get busy on that eastern border wall…
Do it. Montana’s moat, I mean ND is letting too many Minnesotans through on vacations and moving here with their stupid liberal ideas.
Liberal ideas aren’t good/bad. Conservative ideas aren’t good/bad. Bad ideas are bad and good ideas are good. Quit helping the already very divisive nature of American Politics. The idea of personal choice and personal freedoms is a very good “liberal idea” (granted the woke movement is changing that idea that liberals even care about personal freedoms and freedom of speech) and fiscal conservative/small government and financial freedom is a very good “conservative idea” (though we all know that the people in office don’t actually want a small government and they want all our money too, just spending it on different things). But neither are good because one side pretends to be in favor of them. They are good ideas no matter what. Even as Dems went from the party of you can’t ban free speech to the party of, “you can’t say that it hurts my feelings” and the Republicans went from, “Small government and no more taxes to, regulate religious, but only my religious morality with laws etc… all of which will cost more money and more taxes and more government entities to implement them”
I will grant you that both sides have their share of stupid ideas and stupid people…..its just that the ratio of stupid ideas and stupid people is higher on the liberal side….
You stupid lib.
Hey, serious question…didn’t you work in education on the reservation (I lose track so I could be wrong)?
Do the legislators comments make sense to you?
I’d say anyone who recognizes both sides are corrupt and terrible but asserts one side is worse than the other almost ALWAYS is a current or use to claim the side they think is better. Just have a hard time letting go. Are you talking ND politics, SD politics or National?
That’s my sisters take all the time. Don’t you dare day the democrats are as bad and corrupt as this current clown show of republicans. It’s not even close to being the same.
Now that the Vikings have cut Hendricks, here are some other moves they could make to free up cap space:
Cut Jordan Hicks
Restructure Brian O’Neill
Restructure Dalvin Cook
Restructure Harrison Smith
Combined with the Kendricks move, this results in some $40M in cap reduction for 2023.
We’re saved!
You’re welcome…
How far does that actually put us under the cap? I don’t see Cook taking a pay cut.
Roughly $19M by my estimate. Add in a Cousins extension and the Vikings have the capital to bring in pretty much whomever they like. Last year, for example, Minnesota lowered the quarterback’s cap hit by about $15 million by making that move. So, they could end up with some $35M to work with.
A Cook restructure is not a pay cut.
Wouldn’t it be a pay cut in the end? No way they pay him 14 million. You’re saying they are instead going to give the very injury prone RB a bunch of guaranteed signing bonus?
First, I didn’t say what they will do, Second, whether someone thinks it’s prudent or not isn’t in my wheelhouse either.
Contract restructures are a simple conversion of a base salary or a roster bonus into a signing bonus. The tool allows the organization to spread the hit over a maximum of five years. So no, Cook would not take a pay cut.
A Cousins extension would reduce cap space, ain’t no way he’s playing for less than what he’s currently making.
Did you mean to say “wouldn’t reduce cap space”? Depending on the length of the extension and how money is structured, it definitely could increase cap space this year.
Don’t restructure Dalvin.
I thought of ONE more.
Trade Kirk
Yes, bowbunch and I have already concluded it makes the most sense to proceed without a viable QB and therefore no need of WRs…run the wildcat on every play and due to the money we will pouring into the other positions we will be successful for sure.
It is a solid plan.
He has a no trade clause… thought you knew this.
Also, replace Cousins with who?
It’s a joke.
Yeah, should have realized that…
LOL, “always assume sarcasm” was one of our rules at the old DN. I think we added that one after I took over the OT way back when.
Its the one that people constantly gloss over, would be huge savings
I don’t see Hicks getting cut now. Zero chance they cut both now
Why not?
What ties does Hicks have to this defense that Kendricks didn’t?
Or to Flores? Or what did he do last year that the Vikings should keep him around on his current deal and not go for someone in FA?
Ugh. My daughter’s power isn’t due to be restored until Wednesday night at 11:00 PM. The grands spent the night with me Saturday night and everyone was here yesterday taking showers and doing laundry, but their schools opened today so they went home to try to sleep there with no heat to get the kids to school this AM. Luckily it was a fairly warm day but will get colder tomorrow. What a mess.
That’s rough! Where is this at?
Oldham county, KY, about a half hour from Louisville, but lots of outages in Louisville and all over KY too. Huge wind storm Friday, 70+ MPH.
That happened to us many years ago in Laurel Maryland. It was after a Hurricane (can’t remember which one) and the projected power outage was 10 days. We said “to heck with that” and found a Hotel till the power was restored. Of course it was just me, her, and the two cats. Hotel graciously allowed us to bring the cats. We got a two room suite so we were comfortable.
That is a mess. We live in the Midwest and in all the years we have lived here, we have never been without power for more than 12 hours. Usually when we have a power outage it only last for 2 or 3 hours.
Last time I was without power was in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. We were without power for a couple weeks.
This is only the 3rd time during my lifetime that it’s happened this long here (other than a day or so). One was a tornado and the other a significant ice storm.
Any University of South Dakota basketball fans on the site? If so what did you think of the no-call of the blocked shot at the basket as time was running out?
I think it was a legit no call, but brutal way to end your season.
Anyone interested follow the link and then click on the blocked shot clip.
South Dakota vs. North Dakota State – Men’s College Basketball Game Videos – March 5, 2023 | ESPN
NDSU fan. I think it was the right no call. You get physical at the basket, it wasnt blatant or obvious contact, most of it was ball anyway. GG
Yes, like my buddies have said, if you have to rewatch it in slow motion a dozen times to try to figure out if it was a foul, it was probably a legit no call at the least and a proper no call at the best.
Well you’re a NoDakRube so I’d pass on your biased opinion
Well
I think I got the spoiler right on my first ever try…Kodiak I am not.
Kodiak figured it out. It’s Five and Skolly that struggle.
I will say though, March madness is pretty cool, way better than nba and if that game determines which team gets in it’s kind of an important call.
That is the only time of the year that I watch basketball.
Same, other than like a niece HS game or something like that
It was just to get to the quarterfinals. Neither SD or NDSU is getting passed Oral Roberts imo.
That’s like saying “shoving a hot poker up my ass is pretty cool, way better than chopping my dick off”
Anti Basketball Nazi
I know you are just funnin’ BUT NDSU is currently ranked SEVENTY-FIVE PLACES ahead of Minnesota in RPI…Minnesota sucks…
That is not unusual (unfortunately).
What is RPI? Raspberry Preserves Inspection?
Rating Percentage Index…
Its a numbers thing calculated by computers so you know it is infallible.
The reason I come to this site is because of all the great words of wisdom that I find here.
Or possible because of the massive loads of bs.
Or possible because you are all stupid libs.
Now that Kodiak and Five are gone we are all stupid libs.
There is much wisdom here as well though….especially coveted are any grains of knowledge that float this way from the balloon factory…
I just wish people would talk about Kirk once in awhile though.
I can’t wait for the extension, going to pour a whiskey, get some popcorn, and watch this website explode.
Solid Plan.
Yup, nobody ever talks about our QB. Strange.
At least this is the right time of year to have those discussions. If folks didn’t argue about it all year, every year, I might engage, but I checked out of those conversations a long time ago.
I was thinking that one day I need to come on and just drop a bunch of 5isms, ie., only illiterates work at balloon factories and if you think that everyone is created equal you are a stupid lib. I figure it would liven up the place since no one is talking about Kirk anymore.
This comment is a massive load of bs and yore a stupid lib!
See. Great words of wisdom right there.
I’m full of
bswisdomHey VP, how is your 50 cents an hour accounting gig going?
It’s going good so far. I’m learning bits and pieces of their systems, but still haven’t grasp the overall view. It will come.
Were you like a real accountant doing real full time accounting before your semi-retirement?
Yes to the accountant thing. I was a full time accountant for a long time and then I was a part time accountant for a long time. Now I’m back to being a part time accountant. I have 1,278 days until I full time retire. Not that I’m keeping track or anything.
I have about 8k days before I will retire, I think I’ll stay buying power ball tickets to speed it up
I plan to retire early.
Haha! You have it down to exactly how many days. Impressive.
On my personal finance spreadsheet I have a formula for how many days, weeks, months and years until my retirement date. It’s one of those nerdy accounting things that I think is fun to see tick down.
Ah, I should have known a numbers guy would have it automatically tracked.
You should make a paper chain!!
I have a monthly countdown calendar to my retirement in an excel file…It gives me great pleasure to change the box from orange to green at the end of each month.
Haha! Are you a numbers guy too?
Yes, pretty much. Computer programming/data analysis is what I spent most of my career doing…I kind of got kicked upstairs into management which is o.k., but not as fun as the numbers stuff.
My daughter is a senior data analyst for UofL. I’m a people person, no way could I stare at a computer screen all day.
Yeah, i couldn’t stare also. I need my cable and computer and news apps. Need to know when the world is done. How you doing, still got that long straight hair?
Remodel, move, and now power outage at my daughter’s house all at the same time. And my son in law’s Dad had a heart attack a few weeks ago (he’s home from that). Good grief.
Dammit – I’m still over 4000 – talk about depressing.
Lol
Carr takes a decent team friendly deal
Good for Vikes for Kirk
If its good for Kirk, its not good for the Vikes.
Kirk will never do this.
$25 million per year guaranteed. LOL
Id be fine keeping Kirk for that money believe it or not. We could actually build a roster then. But NooOOOOoooo
Kirk will want 4 years at 160 with 80 guaranteed (well, 55 more in guaranteed)…will you go for that?
False, at 4 years and 160 mil he’d demand 160 mil guaranteed.
Nope. No long term unless its very team friendly where if we are sick of him in year 1 or year 2 we can dump him at minimal damage and or trade him. No trade clause was the dumbest thing they did last season with the extension. Team needs to be in control, not Kirk for once.
Kirk will be in control until HE decides he doesn’t want to play in MN anymore.
Correct
It was fake with twitter down I couldn’t see the date correctly
Relax AT did not get extended
He will restructure though at some point
Fuck this team. They don’t care at all about the fans.
Lol
This isn’t an organization serious about winning a championsho
Overreact much? You seem a little teste today.
Did you say he has little testes?
Sure seems like he’s salty about something and that would probably do it.
Nothing like salty testes
With their moves so far, agreed. Next 2 months will show a lot
See DE… this is where I lose hope on KAM.
They’re in the ticket and jersey selling business..: not the winning one.
Wait to see what the contract extension is. Could be a good deal. AT still a beast WR3
Lol AT extended
Thank you KAM
KAM sucks. Cut him.
It’s an old tweet.
Fuck this team
Lmao
Who cares at this point. I’m broken as a fan. Probably hit the age where it hits all you. Teams never winning an Owl ever anyways.
cursed
They had to keep him. He’s from Minnesota doncha know.
I think it’s fake
That tweets from 2019
Yeah I know. Twitter effed up right now I didn’t see date from a retweet
For those having trouble understanding…
FULL REBUILD = BEARS
FULL RELOAD = VIKINGS
My problem is why do we have to draft QB in 2023?
Why not next year?
Do you want a rookie leading the team, or do you want someone with a year of learning under his belt?
No I want Kirk for 3 more years draft QB 2024 and they’ll sit for 2 years.
Ppl act like Kirk gonna die this year. He easily has 3 solid years left
Oh, that makes sense then.
And you act like he’ll be solid for another 3.
who knows man. As much as that dude get me hit who friggin knows.
He might. He easily could dominate again and continue to improve. Hasn’t had back to back OC in 8 years
Why not this year if KO wants a player?
Then do it. But we don’t have too if he’s not sold.
Why not in 2023?
Is a FULL RELOAD the same as a Competitive Rebuild?
Neither of those things exist in my mind.
Just because something exists in your mind doesn’t mean its real.
Well if it doesn’t exist in his mind does it mean it isn’t real?
Nah.
Its what most teams do every year lol
https://publish.twitter.com/?query=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Fsimpleryan_%2Fstatus%2F1632755253593374720&widget=Tweet
Is this real?
no
For those of you that want a full rebuild and dump Kirk why sign JJ to extension then?
Nobody wants a full rebuild and dump Kirk. Drafting a QBOTF and letting Kirk play out his contract isn’t dumping Kirk.
He doesn’t like grey area and nuance. Judging by his polls.
Lol
If he has a grey pole he has some real issues.
Why do full rebuild and dumping Kirk have to go hand in hand? JJ extension is because he is young and actually top 3 (debateable BEST) at his position. Thats who you extend and throw money to. Not to a mid QB getting closer to 40. Come on Skolious, you’re smarter than that.
JJ not signing extension if they’re going with unknown QB next year. I’m telling you
You literally DO NOT know that lol. At all. Judging by everything iv seen and heard from JJ and his body language, he cares about Ws, and not only Ws, Play off Ws. He doesn’t care whose throwing him the ball. He’s not going to rage if we get rid of Kirk. We aren’t getting play off Ws with Kwerk sooooo, im telling you.
If you have read any of the tweets, he cares about Kirk also.
He only cares about Kirk to the extent he gets him the ball, all WRs are like that.
@He also loves going to BBQs at Kirk’s house@
Beg to differ there Ben. JJ wanted the locker next to Cousins and they have a great personal relationship. JJ truly appreciates Cousins mentorship as well as the fact that without Cousins, he isn’t leading the league in anything.
I agree with this take. If I’m JJ do I want Kirk throwing to me or a rookie?
Maybe not in their first year but a talented Rookie can do what Kirk does, maybe a few less passing TDs, up the rushing TDs, and the ability to take risks and not spaz under the lights and its a win/win. JJ would gladly take a QB with less bulk stats if it means getting to an winning a Bowl
Did JJ tell you all of this first hand?
He does not care if Kirk is the Vikings QB or not. He cares about getting the ball, and getting Ws. Thats it.
Draft QB this year by trading up.
sign Kirk to a two year deal including this year.
see how new QB develops.
trade kirk and get first round pick back.
Why does QB have to be this year? Why not next year?
fix defense and holes this year get QB next year
They absolutely can
Woah that’s surprising when they’re paying Zeke so much
Zeke is set to be paid $16.7 million with $11.9 million dead cap. Ouchy.
The tag value will be around $10 million, so they’re going to be paying the RB position $26 million? Holy hell.
I think they’re going to cut Zeke
He has already said he is willing to take a pay cut.
Breaking News from the balloon factory
Carr to the Saints
You heard it here first.
Info via balloon is a tad slower give me a break.
Twitter embedding seems to not be working today
Not working on other sites, too.
It doesn’t even work if I follow the link.
Wow the NFCS is going to be horrible
No way to know.
Remember when they said the NFC east would be horrible again?
Woah!
Not sure why this isn’t showing but Titans are shoppping Henry
Cousins and Cook for Henry…
Nah, that wouldn’t make sense since we are a pass 1st offense.
Interesting.
I think Henry’s cap numbers are bigger than Cooks.
I just don’t understand the Saints.
They are in cap hell.
I guess a roster purge is coming.
Does Dalvin Cook have any trade value??
Yes.
But not much more than a mid round pick IMO.
His contract is too big versus his production.
RB’s just aren’t valued that much in the NFL.
I predict he restructures to remain a Viking.
Correct
So thats why we are not releasing him, we are trying to get something back, hope we can.
I hope they trade him for a pick as well.
But I highly doubt it.
His contract is $14 hit $6 dead
cut him and prosper
Don’t forget he just had surgery too.
True.
Maybe nobody but the Vikings wants him. Which is likely.
Kirk Cousins extension is next. GET ERRR DONE KAM
I dunno…..
could go either way it. What’s the rush?
Draft a QB, let Kirk play out his contract.
That would be ideal.
But it won’t happen.
We’ll see. They’re interviewing QBs, which may mean nothing, but also may mean something.
I don’t think KAM will do that, Kirk can keep a team “relevant” which keeps the owners happy.
I think they want more than to be relevant.
Yes, they want to be employed more than anything
I don’t know if that’s his MO.
need to see how he handles the roster in the next few days to really nail that down.
This is the smart and correct move. If they do it remains to be seen.
better extend Kirk draft his replacement and for once in the franchises history develop a guy properly.
McKee is the perfect candidate
He wouldn’t need more than a year, no reason to extend Kirk if you’re drafting McKee. Sign an old fart to be QB2 who can help guide McKee after he sits a year.
Correct. Extension is internally unnecessary.
Wrong….when I say develop properly I mean sit for a minimum of 2 yrs, preferably 3 a learn the game, practice reps and drill so when your time comes it’s automatic. The learning on the fly shit is for the birds.
I agree. If we’re drafting our QBOTF, then there’s no reason to extend. If we’re not drafting a QB, then we should sign him to an extension.
I’m all for drafting a guy, IF, and only if, they REALLY think they’ve found the one.
They may not
I think last year was the trial year.
and now they’re gonna build their team.
mayhe it was a hey Wilfs this team isn’t built to go anywhere right now.we gotta make some moves.
We went 13-4 and won the north. Your argument doesn’t make sense
We weren’t the bears
Makes total sense.
Yes they went 13-4. That was a the ceiling. That defense with the current contracts was not going past the divisional round in playoffs. It just wasn’t happening.
now they’ve made their case they need tk make the moves.
Yup, I agree 100%.
I don’t think there’s any rush, certainly not from Kirk’s agents. I think they’ll cut ham next.
Think Harry has the best shot at staying… but asking for a higher paycut is never good.
I don’t think it is even asking them to take a pay cut.
It’s converting salary to bonuses, and adding void years.
And that would be stupid, they aren’t getting younger.
id only prefer the Barr type of one year deals.
I never said it was smart.
Competitive Rebuild is probably the voice command that gets you through security in Eagan.
They aren’t rebuilding by keeping everyone around.
it’s like I said above…
last year was the “trial” year.
13-4 WC exit. KO probably had made the case thst with the current players that is the ceiling
now they get to do their thing. At least I hope.
They are not doing a full rebuild.
I hope I’m wrong though.
Bears are doing a full rebuild.
Vikings are not.
Vitting 3 overpaid vets and position that isn’t valued is not a full rebuild.
Why is that hard to understand?
Because they were starters? On the worst D in the league?
or on offense? Cook and AT gotta go… as much as Kirks cap hit sucks.. 35m for those two is insane.
just like 30m for Harry and Kendrick’s.
eat the dead and schedule the guys you’re signing tk be low hits this year and bigger signing bonuses.
Vitting 3 overpaid vets is a rebuild?
Doesn’t that happen every year?
That defines a “Competitive Rebuild”.
I don’t doubt that 3 people will be gone. I just dont think it will be Cook, Thielen, Smith, Hunter, Smith…..
Kendricks is one.
Correct they are not doing a full rebuild.
that’s what I’m trying to say.
those are necessary cuts. Keep those guys around hirts this year more than it helps.
the bears are going full rebuild.
You’re saying they’re doing a full rebuild then?
Yeah, I hate kicking the can down the road, that’s what got us in the mess we were/are in.
I tend to agree, he was the best of all the old overpaid guys last year, if he agrees to something reasonable I would think he stays. From reports it sounds like Thielen is bitching about his role, which became a distant third to JJ and Hock down the stretch. We’ll see what happens here over the next week and a half before the new league year starts.
Yeah 10 days till the new year and 12 until their contracts kick in
Can we do a -1 year extension?
LOL
If I could turn back time!!!
I would fine a wayyyyyy….to trade Kirk to the 49ers at the end of 2019
No
Kinda like your Ex did with you?
Dont listen to Skolly KAM, he doesn’t want a bowl! TRADE HIM OR DROP HIM KAM! THIS IS YOUR CAREER ON THE LINE!
OK KFEY… who starts at QB that can do more than Kirk has over the last 5 years? Because only three QB’s in the league have thrown more TD’s than he has in that time.
If they didn’t have to pay Cousins they could easily put together an all star team and the QB wouldn’t even matter. Hell, they don’t even need a qb. Wildcat it to the SB.
K
YES! and if we don’t have a QB then we don’t really need any WRs either! Think of all the money we will save if we don’t have to waste it on JJ!
I think you got it!!!
4 TEs and 2 running backs. Read option from the Wildcat every play.
And guess what, all those juicy stats you prop your secret lover up with…dont me jack diddly to me, at all. So spare me. Ws, more specifically play off Ws. Kwerky got them? Sure as shit doesn’t.
Nice, salient, mature and rational reply. Thanks.
These guys act like production doesn’t at some point equal results…reminds me of some peoples inability to accept the truth.
KFEY doesn’t think very highly of me… I’m so depressed.
Carr to saints
I would have gone to NYJ, they’ve got a lot better talent and coaching.
Yup, Saints are a sinking ship, IMO.
@Plus, he would have been a sure-fire 1st ballot HOFer.@
Jets are gonna land Rodgers
Former Packer goes to Jets… where have I seen this before. He’s gonna text dick picks and end up a Viking would be my guess lol
Morning edgeslusher
Didn’t you predict the Raiders last week?
Predict all things then proclaim your genius when one of them happens and forget all of the other predictions.
That was probably me. I think Rodgers will be a Raider.
I’m pretty sure Skolly did as well.
Well, he’s right then.
Also
Allen is a terrible head coach though.
Too much real football talk…
Time to build a wall on the eastern edge of North Dakota.
You Minnesota people are crazy.
A Minnesota court can’t overturn science – but it can destroy women’s sport (msn.com)
Walls don’t work. Also, this is so dumb. And here’s the thing and I don’t care if it’s unfair. I wouldn’t care if girls were playing boys sports. How come you rarely see it where girls want to change their gender and compete against boys? Oh yeah, because there is no competitive advantage there. Have you seen the South Park on this topic? Fuck it’s hilarious.
Not a huge South Park guy but I did see that episode, very well doen. Exactly, its all about the competitive advantage…USA power lifting said they let a trans athlete compete 4 years ago and she/he broke 4 world records…duh…
We will supplement our eastern wall with ND Guardsmen totting machine guns, that outaa do it. 🙂
No need to bother the Guard, we’re all armed, we can protect it.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they bring Hicks back. Asmoah will start over EK
Lol
im sure he will.
LOL.
Skolly is 100% right since EK will be cut.
HOT TAKE IS FINALLY SPOT ON!
I’m trying to figure out if this is another instance, among many, where you’re “late to the party” and weigh in on a topic everyone already knows and has discussed (i.e. Kendricks was cut this morning, and you’re just figuring it out) or if this is simply another example of you stating the obvious (i.e. since Kendrick was cut, the next in line is most likely Asamoah)?
You’re loved either way…just trying to clarify which of those two common camps your comment belongs in.
; )
That sounds like a stupid lib comment.
Well that is his dad so
It is a stupid lib dad response.
GF from up top
Its easier to watch 3 days of 300 dudes in the underwear olympics than 3 years of game film on 300 dudes. Thats why rubes and coaches love the Combine. Of course game film is MUCH more important.
Long story..I remember there was a kid on my sons team the HS coaches were all excited about based on the summer workouts (“All-State material”). Fast, athletic, decent size, etc. I was skeptical since I had seen him play in real pads before. They started him and he turned out to be awful – he did not like contact and would do anything he could to avoid it….which is a problem when you play defense.
Workouts mean next to nothing…what happens when the real bullets fly…
Yepper, I couldn’t agree more.
40 time doesn’t always translate to on-field speed.
And you can’t measure heart and instinct.
Agreed but it’s rare for a 4.7 receiver to be an impact player. And if he is, he better be a perfect route runner, great hands, and have length.
Yes, but its rare that a 4.7 40 receiver will show up on tape as being special…although that’s kind of what happened in Slothwells case.
Hey! Treadwell ran a 4.63. He also was never the same after that greusome injury his sophomore year.
I’ll always be tarnished by the fact that I was a huge Treadwell fan. Kid was impressive at Ole Miss, was sure hoping he’d be successful here. Not the case.
I was excited when we drafted him but I remember the pundits on draft night saying he could have difficulty gaining separation at the Pro level….
Sometimes they know what they are talking about.
And Gil Brandt said he was going to be the next Michael Irvin since he was coming to a team with the same OC as Irvin had.
I hated the pick. HATED IT! I kept saying we have a TE faster than him at the time lol. Got flamed for it over on the Norseman. Just like I was flamed for years of screaming for prioritizing drafting linemen early.
I agree drafting linemen early is a solid recipe for building a successful team.
Maybe it’s cause you’re a stupid lib.
Apparently, he is a flaming stupid lib, thats the worst kind.
ackshully… it’s a stupid flaming lib.

Fuck this stuff
Name of your sex tape
That made me lol, for real haha.
The Beatles made me do it.
@Clearly, you’ve never seen Laquon Treadwell play.@
Yes, we noted that exception…
and he was 4.64 – great time for a linebacker….
I was rounding up for purposes of the “punch line”.
: )
I feel any scout worth his salt knows this and knows it is a PIECE of the puzzle, not the whole puzzle but a piece. In many ways it can validate what you already thought. It’s all data that one must put together.
I know, I said “some folks”.
I’m sad to see EK go, as he’s been a class act, but I like that the team is making moves that are necessary. This is a good sign of things to come this off-season, IMO.
Yes, class act, and was once very good.
I took it that way too, that they are going to take some steps to address salary cap and get younger, cheaper.
With the Release of Kendricks, the Vikings are now about $14.9 million over the cap.
Easily removed with restructuring Thielen, Smith and Smith.
Tomlinson probably resttructuring as well.
Sounds like a law firm
Likely more to come, is Thielen next? What are his cap hit numbers?
Thielen isn’t going anywhere IMO.
Agree, doesn’t make much sense to release him, but he will be the #3 next year.
It makes all the sense in the world to release him unless Thielen agrees to restructure his deal. Right now, he would have the 2nd highest cap hit in 2023, IIRC. That’s insane.
Yes, but as GF says, you still have 13.4 in cap hit if you release him…If you keep him, you are basically paying him 6 mill to be your number 3…Maybe its worth cutting him, but I bet he stays.
I think they’ll re-negotiate his deal. Wreck painted them into a corner with Thielen’s contract, they have to un-fuck themselves if they’re gonna keep him.
$6MM is a lot to pay for a WR3 when the market range at that position probably averages around $2-4MM per year, and AT didn’t have a great season. They could likely replace his production and save about $8-10MM overall.
That’s significant, IMO.
I know there’s been some rumors suggesting he wasn’t 100% last year and clearly Adam believes he can still produce…but I’m not so sure. I think his ego may be writing checks his body can no longer cash.
I love his story and he’ll always be one of the greatest Vikings ever, but if he’s unwilling to do a significant restructure, I think it’s time to move on.
Points well-taken.
I do think he was 100 percent last year, Adam himself said he never felt better physically. I think he still believes he is the player he was, and he clearly isn’t. Those quick twitch muscles are leaving him, and he never had an abundance of those in the 1st place.
I remember reading/hearing the same thing. And then all of the sudden, after the season, “rumors” emerge he was battling some sort of leg injury. Sounded to me like something an agent might release to try to boost his aging players value.
Who knows for sure…I just found it a little suspicious. But I’ll also admit his wife’s comments on social media rubbed me the wrong way. Whatever “sentimental” value I might have considered earlier was washed away by her schtick. Since then, I’ve been in a “tough love” mindset with AT.
Take a big cut or hit the road. I’d welcome him back, but only at the right price based on current production, not prior contributions.
Thielen will restructure
lol
The defense will be the focal point this off-season, as that is the main weakness on the team. They’ll have to do something with Thielen, whether that be a release or a contract re-negotiation. Other players will be gone as well. They’ll get a compensatory selection for Kendricks.
AT has a $19.7 million cap hit in 2023, and still has $13.355 million in dead cap. Some of the dead cap can be pushed into 2024 if they release him after June 1st, but that’s not a good habit to get into.
I imagine the Vikings tried trading him, or at least they should have. EK is a leader. Lots of folks think he’s a good fit for their team too.
I would imagine that they tried, but got no decent offers. They can let him walk and recoup a compensatory pick, which may be more than what teams were offering.
I really liked Kendricks a few seasons ago, but he has leveled off. Better to get rid of guys a smidge too early than a smidge too late. Ideally, get rid of them and get assets rather than holding on too long and paying too much. I hate paying guys for farewell tours.
Yep, exactly. Gotta be smart, can’t keep guys around for nostalgia’s sake.
Yes.
They get zero in comp picks for a player they choose to release, only players who’s contracts expire count for comp picks. The fact they released him indicates clearly he has zero trade value.
Fuck, that’s right.
Yeah, seems no team was willing to give up anything at all knowing the Vikings were going to cut him eventually. Be curious to see what he gets in FA, my guess is what the Vikings signed Hicks for last offseason
Could be, I’m surprised that nobody thought he was worth at least a day 3 pick. I suppose the remaining contract was a tough pill to swallow for a 31 year-old linebacker.
If they could have gotten anything for him they would have.
He’s also almost 30 and slow af. This is a young mans game and nostalgia is a silent killer.
Darrell Green played 20 years in the league with his last game being in 2002. He was still playing at 43. To celebrate his 50th birthday, Green ran a 40 yard dash in 4.43 seconds. 30 years old? I’m thinking that’s not old these days.
For sure athletes are playing longer with better training…I try to caution people that a 40 yard dash doesn’t mean that you haven’t lost shiftiness and short space explosiveness…that’s what tends to go first. You can maintain something close to your college straight line 40 for a long time, but its the short space explosiveness that goes and makes all the difference.
Makes sense. He sucks in this scheme
Sucked last year in a different scheme, he’s just old and not particularly good anymore.
Yes, he sucks
I just heard that Kendricks is gone, trying to verify now.
I think JJ and KJ are a formidable duo, and I think they will be our #1 and #2 WR’s this year. Hockensen is a solid receiving tight end as well so we have three quality targets for Cousins. I was hoping Reagor would live up to his draft hype but he seemed lost in KOC’s offense. May be too difficult for him to execute effectively. IF he had the ability to execute the offense though one would think that trio would be able to make some noise. Do we need a top shelf receiver at #3?
Robinson would become the WR2 if he came here, leave KJ as WR3.
I just don’t understand how we can’t scheme situations with Reagor and Hock to put the defense in a mismatch where only one of them actually gets a CB covering them. The other on gets a LB/S which is a mismatch either way.
True… which is one reason why I wasn’t impressed with KOC’s scheme.
Reagor is dumber than a bag of hammers. He created two interceptions in one game by being dumb.
^^^^This
I hate to be mean…but truth is truth…
Was that the Colts game? Yeah, pretty sure. Moved off one route & created a pick 6, then just said fuck it on another route & stopped running and the CB intercepted it.
To make matters worse, on that 2nd INT where he stopped running the route, when KOC gave him the stink eye after the play, he threw up his hands like, “What’s the problem? What was I supposed to do?”
Obviously, I can’t know for sure what he was thinking but seemed to lack any awareness of the importance of the moment and the stupidity of his play.
Yep, I don’t think we saw him on the field much after that game, other than to return punts.
Yes.
I’m pretty sure those Ints were Kirk’s fault. He’s the one that threw the ball.
It’s so sadly true.
Personally I thought KAM tried to show he could be a draft whiz, moving picks around last year. I thought he got completely worked. In the end, he got some good guys on paper but injuries took their toll so the jury is still out on them. Ingram got his nose bloodied and allowed the most sacks of any Guard in the league. Cousins was sacked the most times in his career, as well as hits and knockdowns. One can only hope the Vikings don’t have to invest yet another high pick on an O-lineman. Their propensity for misses in this department is somewhat legendary at this point. Ingram has to pan out this year, and Cine, and Booth.
Agree. KAM got exposed for his inexperience and ego. Horrible draft imo. Sometimes the best method as you’re learning is stand pat and take BPA. Had he done that, way better result.
How’d you play yesterday?
I shot 45 – 47 which was sort of disappointing, but a guy playing with me who claimed he was 4 handicap at one time and hit the ball very well (if a little crooked) shot 95. The course was too long for me really, so I had to play my “drive it short, lay up to 90 yards, hit a pitching wedge on the green and two putt for bogey” methodology. First hole was a good example. Had to drive it over a lake to start, to a narrow landing area between the trees. Hole was playing 375 yards with a 150 yard carry over the lake and a marsh in front of the green. I hit a solid drive down the middle but still had 185 to the pin (back pin). I didn’t think I could carry the marsh without nailing a three wood and it was early in the round, so I laid up to about 70 yards right by the edge of the marsh into a crappy lie. I hit a pitching wedge from there that landed on the green but rolled long and about 5 yards into another crappy lie. Hit a bad 60 degree wedge from there to 15 feet and two putted. There were a lot of holes with forced carries and lay up’s like this. Some I navigated well, others I did not. Meanwhile Mr “I was a 4 handicap” was hitting the ball all over the place and complaining about how terrible the course was. He then would get on his cell phone and text between shots. Not conversational at all. So all in all it wasn’t a great day for me.
I didn’t like the trade hack either.. but I believe KAM wanted more picks in the 77-156 range that he didn’t have and tearing back was how he was going to get them.
haven’t sent enough on the field from any of them to call them busts but I would’ve like to hold firm at 12z
Who cares now… I imagine he’ll be moving back again.
maybe we get a surprise and he trades up.
It’s shows how important the interior is for cousins because the tackles are good. But he struggles (as do most QBs) with pressure up the middle. I think he has decent pocket awareness for threats from the edge but pressure of the middle is a different story.
Yes pressure up the middle with your guard on his backside will pretty much wreck a QB’s ability to set up and throw the ball. Note how the QB’s playing us seem to not have to worry about that. Cousins did throw for the 4th most yards in the league, and the 5th most TD’s despite the pressure he was constantly under though.
Maybe this year the line will gel, and a second year in the system will help the offense to be better. KOC has to be better at play calling and play design too I think. He failed to impress me there.
In memory of Kodiak. RIP
.
lol…Kodiak is alive and well on the DN though. They posted an article about the Kendricks release this morning and his insightful contribution to the comment section was…
He’s such an idiot.
Funny he’s not banned by the collie molesters there
Yet. Give him time.
The FA plan below to purge the books is the best plan I’ve seen. We simply do not have enough draft capital to do much of anything substantial to fix the defense. Need to hit FA hard for Flores to find the right proven guys to get the defense at least respectable. Then go in to the draft freed up to add some needed fire power. Could also go after McKee in the 2nd after a trade back to address the QB position longterm.
I don’t see any of those moves as a surprise and very much what I’ve been calling for.
I don’t see it being smart to “restructure” the old guys and who knows what they say when asked for a paycut.
Hunter is our biggest piece for draft capital if that’s the route they want to go… otherwise there is a lot of flexibility to navigate FA.
The bandaid needs to come off and this next week is when it either gets pulled or it doesn’t and we will really see what KAM is made of in that GM seat.
The time to shit or get off the pot had arrived.
Agreed….the run it back plan has officially run it’s course.
I mean…
they can “run it back”
it doesn’t need to be a down the studs rebuild like the bears.
but we have to face the music with these older vets and the cap hits they’re due. They are untenable with Cook, AT, and Smith due to make 55m. I’ve been screaming it for a year.
and as much as it hurts the butts of those that love them it’s gotta be done.
I’d rather see them gone than watch them decline even more LIKE EVERY PLAYER DOES.
For sure…Thielen is a $5 mill a yr max guy now, he likely needs to move on because he (and his karen wife) won’t accept that.
Cook although still dynamic isn’t worth $14 mill BUT he has a $6.2 mill dead hit so trying to keep him for that amount makes sense but if he balks let him go. There are way too many options on the market and draft for good RB’s on the cheap.
Hunter is worth a reworked contract imo he is just that talented. I want to get him more help on that DL with some of these ED pass rushers coming in this draft.
Hunter has earned a new deal but he’s also the only valuable trade piece.
id lean towards him staying but wouldn’t be surprised to see him go.
IMO Harry he the best chance of sticking around.
Agree on H Smith, he may be around. Safeties can play later into their careers and still contribute, and he is a leader on the field, so they may keep him another year.
Amen
As far as the draft goes…
it’s all a lottery. There will be a team
Willing to move up and I think last year showed KAM is less concerned with the value he returns if he can be in the spots he wants to be in the draft.
he had “his” formula for the guys he wants to take and it showed.
will the fans agree with how he values stuff? No…. But i don’t think he’ll be short on picks.
Yeah…I think he has his scouts and position coaches digging deep in to the later rd guys looking for gems who slide do to the depth of this draft and positions like CB, RB, ED, LB.
I give it about a 10% chance he actually makes a pick at 23.
He has his own scouting team this year, too. They were using Wreck’s crew last year.
I’m hopeful for a more successful draft this year.
Other than Kendricks, It’s not happening.
I expect Cook, Thielen, H.Smith, PP…. all to be around for another “competitive rebuild”.
Why? They’ve moved on from Kendricks already. What makes you think they’re going to keep everyone?
