Some NFL news yesterday, as Daniel Jones reportedly signed a four-year $160 million deal with the Giants, and the Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar Jackson. Both of these moves affect the Vikings if the Vikings intend to extend Kirk Cousins, as it moves the needle on the market price for a QB. We’ll find out within the next week or so whether the Vikings plan to extend their current starting QB, or allow him to play out the remainder of his current contract before making a decision.
The free agency period will be an interesting time for Vikings fans, as the moves the Vikings make (or don’t make) will tell us a lot about their approach to the upcoming season. I’m hoping for many new faces, especially on defense, as the team continues to shed some of the mistakes from the previous front office. Next week ought to be a fun time!

The Ravens have placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar Jackson, per NFL.com. the non-exclusive tag allows Jackson to continue to talk to other teams in free agency. If he would sign an offer from another team, the Ravens would have five days to match it, or to lose Jackson and get two first-round draft picks in return. Honestly, I think the Ravens are hoping that another team signs Jackson. If nobody signs Jackson, the tag will cost the Ravens a hair over $32 million next year.
From ESPN, the Giants agreed to a four-year $160 million deal with Daniel Jones, and they also placed a nonexclusive franchise tag on Saquon Barkley.

Had two recipes come from Hello Fresh that involve Kale…its been a terrible experience every time. Even if its cooked into a butter/cream type sauce…its just awful. I end up throwing most of it away.

Yeah the ones with spinach usually turn out good. And it always cooks down nice. Also pretty sure its better for you than kale. It sure as hell eats better.
We freeze it. Then you can dig out a handful, crumple it like ash and drop it into smoothies. It is tasteless in that case.
Wife also makes kale chips coated with a concoction made from cashews that is pretty good. I actually take them and crumple them up like ash into a burrito mixture. Again, kale is tasteless in it and the cashew coating gives the burrito mix a bit of a kick.
This is also garden kale, not grocery store stuff. Eight plants will produce a metric ton of kale, we’ve noticed.

I’m stuck on the QB thing.
On one hand, I’m concerned that Kirk can’t get us to the Super Bowl (I didn’t say he couldn’t, just that I’m concerned that he can’t based on his history), so I’d like to move on if he can’t get us there.
On the other hand, I’ve been a Viking fan for over 40 years, so I remember many years where we’ve had shit at the QB position, and I don’t want to watch that ever again, so I don’t want to move on from Kirk until they have a better option to replace him.
Keep Kirk this year, give the Jets a 7 for Wilson, draft Hooker. See if Wilson has any hope and if Hooker can heal and develop. Both would be cheap enough options and if they don’t work out roll with Cousins for another year or two when you take another shot at a young guy next year.
It’s an equation. A weighted average taking into consideration level of play, durability, and cost. Which player gives you the best shot, taking everything into consideration? If you get a slight decrease in production for a $20 million reduction in the cap, then that player gives you a better shot, IMO.

Keep acquiring guys until you find one that you are comfortable moving forward with and by then Cousins will either be ready to retire or you can move on.
I think a team should take a QB in the first couple rounds every couple years until they get it right.

Thinking of you because ND and long haul trucking. I ordered a generator stand a month ago from a place near Houston. Truck picked it up later that day. Nice. I was looking at that one or the ATN IR scope. I like the thermal scopes better I think, but the price tag on the IR is a lot nicer. How far out is it reliable at night?
I have night vision binocs and my experience with them vs the thermal scopes is the same as the reviews you read…night vision is great if the target is in the open but in tall grass or a thicket you see as much or as little as you see in the daytime. A porcupine hunkered down in a thicket at night clearly shows up on thermal. Anything porcupine sized or larger is clearly seen out to 100-150 yards. Once they get out beyond that range you will see a spot but the electronic zoom up to 15x won’t make that spot resolve to a porcupine or skunk. You have to move closer, which is no big deal as I’m not potting things from 200 yards anyhow. I routinely see coyotes skulking on the ridges around my place, out at 600-800 yards, you can tell they are “dogs” by size and shape but it’s not like you can pick out head from ass unless they are moving.
Sweet. I’m gonna need to start saving up I think. Just received a quote to repair my sewer system though so toys might have to wait. $15k, ouch.

Okay, put your money where your mouth is, you have to start this many games, put up these stats, for this amount of time then you will get this amount. If you dont do those things, then you will make less. You can have SOME guarantees, but not all because your body and play are NOT guaranteed.

It depends on the incentive. There are likely and not likely to be earned incentives. If it is deemed likely, it counts this year and then is refunded next year if not met. Not likely incentives count next year if they are met this year.
So for Jones they could have a not likely to be earned incentive of something like throw 20 TDs since he only threw like 15 last year.

Not sure but I think it is based on what the player has done. So, if you throw 15 TDs in a year then an unlikely to earn incentive could be as simple as throwing 16 TDs. That’s the way I understand it anyway but I’m sure it’s more nuanced than that.

It could be a bad year for ice jams on the Jellystone…we are getting lots of nighttime lows in the single or negative digits still, the river ice is quite thick, and there is abundant snowpack in the drainage basin up west. All we need is cold temps to hang on a couple more weeks and then abrupt warming and/or rain to the west and it will be unpleasant.

About a mile from the river, but it’s an old river so it has a wide flood plain, would be a biblical event if water reached our place. However, I have seen jams inundate some of the roads into town, and one year a jam on the I-94 bridges got big enough they were contemplating dynamiting the ice as it was flooding West Glendive.
IIRC during WWII the ice jammed in Miles City bad enough that they had B-25 bombers dropping 250 pounders onto the ice. Nowadays they’d probably deploy a Rapid Dragon off a C-41 with 45 AGM-158 cruise missiles, I mean go big or go home right?
Yes, in my lifetime they have bombed some rivers from the air to break up ice jams on ND rivers…that does happen.

Oh, my rule of thumb is always that extended warranties are no good, but I am glad that after deciding to get one that it will pay off.
So far it has. I mainly got it because the fuel pump is a known potential issue in my pickup which leads to toasting the injectors which is like a $15k job. I got new Pittman arms this fall under warranty which would have been over $1000. Radio is an $800 job but according to the warranty paperwork should be covered. I might have an injector going out now too so I am extremely happy I got the extended warranty when I purchased this pickup.

I have a DeW hammer drill that I beat the piss out of from time to time and it runs great, have had it for 12 years. All of my cordless tools are either DeW or Mak. Honestly if I were looking for the best drill to handle heavy usage I would either: a. buy the most expensive one b. ask the pro desk at HD their advice c. ask a local contractor.

That reminds me…my stepson hates those electric eye door stop things for overhead doors, when the OH door guy installed the one in our barndominium stepson talked him into mounting the eyes up next to the opener at the ceiling. If you have a dog, you know that it is virtually a guarantee if you close an overhead door the dog will decide last minute to make a break to get on whichever side you are on, and not wanting to rename one of our Labs “Dragger” I remounted them in the correct location, using some 14 gauge or such bell wire. I’d love to know what tool the OH door guy uses…the splices in the wires inserted into the logic board were the most precise spiral of wire I had ever seen, like it came out of the box that way. Me I used needlenose pliers and they didn’t look near that pretty.
Those sensors are pretty important for those with little people or animals.
Both are kind of dumb when it comes to things closing on them.
In terms of my miter radial arm saw and table saw, I was looking at super fancy ones for like $600 and my contractor buddy said he just gets the cheapo ones from Harbor Freight, uses them until they die. As little use as they get, they work fine for me. Now they don’t have the fancy flesh detecting blade brake of the high end saws, but as long as I don’t mind being called stumpy that’s not a big deal.

My table saw gets used a ton, as do my cordless tools, so I went with the good stuff.
I got a Bosch table saw, and I LOVE it.
It is something that will get used probably 20 times a day. Hopefully for years to come.

Jesus and the bible are very clear that being gay is a sin and not allowed. Male and female only. But Jesus does call us to love others.
I like my churches stance on it. It condones and absolutely does not support being gay as it’s a sin, but it welcomes gay members with open arms like the rest of us because we all sinnners.
I just don’t think these players should have to support this because its a sin.

Either the wording of the bible matters or it doesn’t. Why does it add “with a woman?” Why doesn’t it say it’s also a sin for a woman to lie with a woman as she lies with a man? Because as it’s about a position of power. Men have power and have status, and matter. Women do not have power or matter in society back then. That is the context of the time when it is written. It is no longer considering lowering yourself lowering yourself to the lowly level of a worthless women, at least I don’t see women as lower nothings than myself.

Fair points and I enjoy these discussions, love learning from others. Here’s the problem with this one. Is the bible and attempt to write a history book or science book? If your answer is yes then you’re just simply going to lose. I think it helps to see the bible as written by fallible people who can only understand the world as they know it in the times they were win. Paul wrote passages that were pro slavery. So if you think the word in the book is infallible then you are pro slavery. If you think that there are things in there written by flawed people (if you don’t think they are flawed it’s kind of blasphemous really) but were inspired by the love and guidance of God then you have a fighting chance to make sense of things. Well certainly previous performance is no guarantee of future performance, but that is true of every single player. Cousins has done this consistently though since becoming a starter in 2015, with different OC’s every year and behind bad lines. Who’s to say he hasn’t yet been able to achieve what he is capable of? He threw for almost 5,000 yards the one year in his career when he was with an OC for a second year and had a decent O-line.

If we can get under the cap without restructuring Cousins’ contract, I would wait to look at it until after the draft. If we are able to get a prospect at QB in the draft, you could let Cousins play out his contract and wait and see if the guy you draft is who you want taking over. If he is not ready for the next year, then you can extend Cousins.

I think the only way KAM can win this draft is being so aggressive he’d have to be willing to put it all on the line trade up in the top ten then trade back for more picks. The Vikings have a small contingent of young players who could play significant roles on defense this year, but I worry about their durability. Brian Asamoah was a backup in 2022 but is now expected to be a starter in 2023 following Kendricks’ release. He suffered a knee injury and a concussion last year in very limited action though. Lewis Cine is another guy everyone has high hopes for but is coming off a severe leg injury. Finally we have Akayleb Evans and Andrew Booth who are in the running for a starting spot who were both injured last year. So we have four young defensive players who have potential. The question is, are they rugged enough to last?
Yes concerns abound with last years draft prospects stepping in to bigger roles this year. Each has major question marks.
Asamoah I have the most faith in becoming an effective starter. He’s shown every thing required to be a solid starter. Smart, prepared and instinctive.
Evans play was excellent. He was instinctive and effective and the moment was not to big for him. His multi concussions are a real threat to take him off the field. The second one was a bit of a fluke running in to his own player making a tackle.
Booth I have very little faith in becoming a starters if even being trusted to be a role player. Every time he came in he clearly was not mentally prepared and as he did in college bet on being overly aggressive to make up for it and was penalized routinely for it. I think he has a 10 cent head.
Cine should round in to form. Yet to be seen if he will have lasting effects from a gruesome broken ankle.
I like a lot of the defensive players we have. D. Hunter is top shelf. Z. Smith is a leader and a difference maker. Phillips is a blue collar guy in the trenches who is also a leader. Peterson brings savvy play as well, and again leadership. The Hitman is a guy any defense wants. To me, we need two strong inside linebackers with speed though. Asamoah isn’t the biggest player, but I remember a guy named London Fletcher who wasn’t that big either. Hicks isn’t the guy long term in my opinion.
Yes there are some solid day 2 speedy LB in this class. I’d like to see Kam grab one is not two..

Price is a value set by the market and what someone will pay. Amount is a whole other story but being guaranteed… To me guaranteed makes the most sense for someone that is very durable.
