Not much for NFL or Vikings news today. A few rumblings about Lamar Jackson potentially coming to the Vikings, but those rumblings were just chatter by random journalists, so not much to them. However, it IS an option that is open to the Vikings, should they decide that there are no quarterbacks in the upcoming draft worth building a team around. The Vikings are going to need to have a plan in place if they do indeed plan to move on from Kirk Cousins after this season.

I’m back from the salt mines. Hopefully everyone was salty today.
Watching The Curse of Oak Island based on NVF dedication to the show. They’ve found a buried rock field from a map from a locals dead father and also a pile of rocks by an old tree dated 100’s of years old. Now they’re digging with hand gardening shovels and dust pans. Laughing… this week is an “off” week for the show. That is instead of a regular episode they are going to recap the season so far basically. Next week “the drilling operation gets closer and closer to its destination and the team is shocked when they discover evidence of an ancient safe.”
After 10 years I do think they are finally zeroing in on some sort of treasure. I am interested to see where they end up at the end of this years season (which was filmed April through October last year). They will be back on the island in a week or so.

Well GF, you’ll be happy to know that according to Spotrac Cousins current market value is $43.2M a year. So once again he’s a bargain and giving the Vikings a good deal.

Kirk with his No Trade Clause would need to approve of any deal moving him along.
Lamar would have to be willing to sign a deal with the Vikes and if his current demand of $50 per is accurate it makes it pretty hard to fit him under the cap.

You’d try to trade Kirk, of course. No reason to have 2 QBs on the roster. The only way it would conceivably work is if the Ravens wanted Kirk, and Kirk would sign off on the deal.

Taking Hooker works for me. At some point we have to pull the trigger on a QB, and with Kirk being Kirk it might be time to move on after this year.
I would be pretty happy if they did that or manage to get a 2nd round pick and get him. If they like him, they should just take him in round 1 though so they have the 5th year option. Let him sit for multiple years if they want to keep Cousins around for a couple more. Plus this place will be crazy if they take a QB in round 1.

McKee is 3rd rd material…preferably mid to late 3rd rd. I like him as a developmental prospect under Cousins but he tends to hold the ball, take sacks but is accurate. Sound familiar?

So as I have said a number of times here, only three QB’s in the league have thrown more TD’s than he has since he became a Viking. Three. It ain’t Cousins, he’s the guy keeping us in games and giving us a chance. Defense? Nope. O-line? Nope. Kicker? Nope. Running game? Nope.

He’s done his job better than all but three QB’s in the league since he’s been with the Vikings but face it, he’s one guy. Nobody you replace him with is going to be better.
Case Keenum took almost the same team that Cousins came to all the way to the NFCCG.

As I’ve said before, I think they should keep him without extending this offseason. Get Wilson from the Jets and draft one. If Cousins has a great year and leads a deep playoff run then go ahead and extend him. If not use the year to evaluate if you have anything in one of the young guys. If one seems to have it, let Cousins walk. If not, keep Cousins.
Best case you end up with a QB on a rookie salary and can build keep building the team around him. Worst case you have Cousins and more cap space in 2024 to bring in FAs.

We have a QB eating up a ton of the salary cap who is getting close to the end of his career. He’ll be 36 when the season starts. At best you are getting 4 years from him if you play the averages (analytics). If you draft a QB now, worst case he sits for multiple seasons because Cousins gets off the fully guaranteed contract and signs something reasonable. If he won’t, Patriot him. Let him walk before his talent declines. If the young buck is really good, then you let Cousins go like the Chiefs did with Alex Smith (how’d that work out for them?). I’m not saying to just get rid of Cousins. I’m saying they should absolutely be exploring their options.
Cousins is eating up cap space because of the GM. His contracts have been reasonable since he produces far more TD’s than the average QB in the league. That’s a fact. He played in Zim’s prevent offense for 5 years and STILL outproduced most all of the other QB’s in the league.
Has Cousins out-priced himself? Dunno. He’s #10 on the salary list. His age is no issue. You’re paying for production, and he produces no matter how bad his line is, who his OC is, and whether the scheme is any good at all.

They have been… currently, Cousins signed a 1 year, $35,000,000 contract, including a $25,000,000 signing bonus, $35,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $35,000,000. In 2023, Cousins will earn a base salary of $10,000,000 and a restructure bonus of $20,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $20,250,000 and a dead cap value of $48,750,000.
KAM has pushed void years well into the future which I guess he thinks will benefit the team in some way. Cousins signed a 3 year fully guaranteed contract with the Vikings in 2018 for $28M a year which was less than what the Jets offered.
Since becoming the Vikings QB Cousins has played extremely well and produced at a higher level than all but three QB’s in the league. Whether you like it or not, Cousins has produced. Other QB’s like Russell Wilson aren’t meeting that standard at the moment.

Season was not on the line at that point. He knew he had another game next week, and the week after. He also knew he DID NOT have one in the play offs, and folded under the pressure. Its not the stats or the throws. Its when he caves in the toughest, and season defining spots. He always has and always will.

Yes, in 2017 the Vikings offense averaged 18 points a game. Keenum threw 22 TD’s. To say the offense was anemic is an understatement. The defense allowed just 15.8 points a game. It was not Case Keenum and the offense winning those games. It was the defense.
The 2017 Vikings averaged 23.8 ppg and gave up 12.6
He’s going to argue and take away defensive turnovers that turned into points im sure. But, he fails to understand that we could afford to have a good defense because we had a very young and talented team, with a at the time, good defense minded coach and we paid our QBs NOTHING. You cant have both. You cant have a mid QB making all the money, and old aging, over paid defense and expect to win. You have to be young and cheap, or talented and cheap at multiple spots.

Really? That seems like a pretty bread and butter play to leave out. Maybe that’s what Thielen was upset about. Slants were his favorite and were removed from the offense.

This is a method I use. Whenever I ask my wife to throw something away, she is like…no, we might need it!
So I just start removing items from drawers, put them in a bag in the basement and see if she notices. If she does not notice after a certain amount of time, I toss the bag or donate.

When we were trying to downsize the stuff the grands have at my place (which included stuff they had as toddlers), the first attempt was a total fail. Then we bought several plastic bins and told them they could only take to the new place what those bins would hold. Success!
Should add I told Emma she could keep all her giraffes and Kayleigh could keep all of her monkeys (their favs) and they didn’t have to put those in the bins.
I just explained to kiddo that holding on to things after he’s too old is selfish because there are kids out there without toys. Giving his old toys away makes another kiddo happy, and gives his toys someone to keep them company.
We normally do the same thing, but since I’m sharing the new patio home with my sister, I needed to get rid of at least three quarters of their stuff, although there is lots of closet space in the new place, so to them it was kind of extreme. It really helped to not ask them to sort through the giraffes and monkeys. That would have been a torturous ordeal.
Should have given them bags to put the extras in and sent it all home with em. Then you wouldn’t have to be the bad guy. Grandparents are supposed to spoil and let the parents be the meanies.
They have plenty of stuff at their house and it was their Mom who went through all of that stuff with them here, so I didn’t have to do it. The plastic bins was her idea, and it really helped.

Corn starch is a good styptic. I usually do the ice water and direct pressure method then wrap it with layer of gauze and fairly tight tape. But corn starch helps with copious oozing.

I’m closing in on 700 movies, but it is manageable. I only have around 200 in cases. The rest I threw the cases away and keep in CD binders. It would be fun to have shelves and shelves of movies, but I try to be efficient with my possessions.
Cleaning out my grandparents’ houses when they died was insane. So much clutter. When I die, my loved ones are going to be able to go in and sort it out quickly.
