Alright, I’m back to being able to type again. I’m not at 100%. Hell, I’m not at 50%, but it’s an improvement over the 10% I was at a week ago.
During my hiatus, I did manage to do accomplish a few things. One of those accomplishments was watching Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey. It was worth watching, in my opinion, but I love horror movies.
The fam and I also went to Super Mario Brothers last night, and it was a REALLY good movie. If you have kids and want to take them to a movie, this one is a good one to take them to.
I smoked a pork butt on Monday, and it turned out perfect! It was an 8+ pound slab, I smoked it at around 275 degrees for 6 hours, then wrapped it and smoked it about 3 more hours until the internal temp hit 205. Yum yum.

Looking at the defense as it stands now, I don’t like the inside linebackers scare anyone. Hicks and Asamoah aren’t exactly what one would call “fierce”.
Guy’s who can cover space and make plays but physicality’s they do not intimidate. I’m all for a LB with pick 87. Who do you like? Campbell is probably the safest pick a true physical player, Sanders best pass rusher, then theres Trenton Simpson from Clemson a great athlete. Lot of options and one will be there likely.

I think the 9ers selling in Lance a bit early.
Maybe on the surface, but I’m not so sure if you look deeper. KOC runs McVay’s offense that requires the QB to win from the pocket. Everything you read from the 49ers over the last year is that Lance can’t hit a barn half the time. On the other hand, the 49ers throw all those hitches bubble screens and quick slants. Cousins can certainly do that, but do they need his arm.
But ha, who knows.
You are mistaken thinking this trade would have Lance as our long term starter. Its not. We would try him out for the remainder of his rookie contract, while also drafting a QB. If Lance blossoms, great, we got him. If not, ship him and we got a good rookie ready to go. Us getting Lance is just a stop gap. The real win is getting rid of Kirk and his $$ burden. Which yes, is not as big as it once once, but is a big burden none the less

That may work. But the key then is drafting a QB that can zing it well. And from reading here, and at a lot of places, running this offense is a little more complicated than balancing a checkbook as many seem to think.

And if I might add, we had 7th best offense in NFL and I don’t think it very far fetched that we could get to five or so with another year in KCO.s offense. Before I’d tamper with this offense to much, I’d look elsewhere for team improvement. .
7th based on what Metric? The offense didnt show up for 2 quarters almost every game. Its subjective. Eye test said we were top half, maybe top 10. Couldnt run the ball for shit. Offense isnt a problem, but it needs to be improved to be an elite team. Top 5 while being top 10 in passing and running would be a good goal.

Im lucky im in Vikes territory. Get FOX and CBS and NBC over the digital antenna for free. Other than that I sail the high seas and get Red Zone and TNF/MNF for free as well.
Yeah, I live in the burbs of TC, usually fox, sometimes CBS, and then the usual 3 games a year of NBC Sunday night game, MNF, and the Thursday night game. I get all but MNF and TNF on local station through the new age antenna, my wife has amazon prime so I watch TNF on that, and well, MNF I go to the bar and watch the game.
You guys are all lucky. Out in flyover country I get a diet of the Broncos or Seahawks.

I been to most all the bars in Fargo/Moorhead. The turf sucks and you need a shot of penicillin on your way out, Dempsey’s also sucks because (at least when I lived there) they had constant sewer problems that made it stink. I liked Rooters and the Windbreak. Labby’s was good for pre, halftime, and post game Bison football games live. Chub’s over in Moorhead was solid. I’m forgetting a bunch too, but that’s what I remember from 10 years ago.

You just reminded me (I fly first class exclusively now did my tour of duty in coach thank you very much 6’5″ with your knees near your chest as the person in front of you reclines). It kinda sorta annoys me how people in coach use the first class restroom…I get it when the beverage cart blocks the way so someone needs to go to the forward lav but last time I flew there was a line so I stood up to wait my turn and the flight attendant suggested I go to the back as “the line is shorter”.

This is a bit crazy on a couple of different levels. Kirk’s strength is throwing an accurate ball from the pocket. Shanahan would like that, but it’s not necessary to run their offense. We run the KOC(Mcvay) offense that requires the QB to win with accurate throws from the pocket. Lance ain’t that.

So honestly, I was not at all impressed with KAM’s wizardry in his first draft. It seemed to me he was trying too hard to be “crazy like a fox” and show how he could move up and down the board trading draft spots. I thought he got worked by the other teams who benefitted from his inexperience and nature though. He thought he was the fox. He wasn’t anything near that IMO.
Only good thing that might have come from Queasy´s “draft day magic” is the Hock trade, Detroit owed him a favor for that deal, probably. Other than that, his first draft was underwhelming indeed, not just the results so far, but also Queasy´s way of going about it.

Kevin Seifert wrote a “here we go again” piece about the Vikings and their unrelenting need (every year) for Cornerbacks. That assessment has been true for most of the past decade, despite a commitment of draft capital unmatched in the league. They have used a first-round pick to draft a cornerback four times in the past 10 years, the most in that span league-wide. The Vikings have also used two second-round picks on the position, and their total of six such selections in the first two rounds is also a league high.
Yet here we are again. With a looming scheme change and a series of disappointing draft outcomes the Vikings return (remain?) to a familiar position.
Is there a correlation between the terrible play of the cbs and the lack of pressures by the defense?
The Vikings pass rush only graded above 70 4x last year… NYG 2x GB and MIA going 3-1.
They also graded below 60 4x CHI, DET, GB, and NE going 2-2.
IN games last season the coverage grade was below 62? Vikings went 4-4. 2 of those games were when the pass rush graded above 70

Mick, good analysis there, but I think the point is, the CB’s we drafted very high over the years never panned out. They were under achievers who aren’t with the team anymore, vice being stars.
Defensive schemes that play soft coverage to protect against the “big play” tend to make the CB’s rate lower. They allow more catches for more yards. Our defensive scheme has contributed to that IMO.
I’m all for a D-line that wreaks havoc on the opposing QB.

Nice analysis. If I recall correctly the 49ers played really solid defense last year. And the year before, they had several DB’s get injured and they still played really good defense. All in for pass rush.

Back to a reasonable life this week. I’m down to working my one job, rather than that job and doing tax returns. So, back to normal.
