Kind of BS imo. Guy was drunk and, of course, as a left leaning fella, “felt threatened” by “republican extremist” who was half his age. I would say there’s a near 100% chance that this drunk loser got into some argument and couldn’t use logic to state his case, young kid made him feel like a fool and this dude turned to violence. Neither KAM nor KOC have ever said anything remotely that definitive regarding Cousins, which is why I feel strongly they don’t see him here long term.
Even if he retires a Viking, I don’t see Cousins time being “long term.” He is nearing the end of his career, per the norm. At the most, I doubt he plays more than about 4 years.

Regardless of this non sequitur argument, my point remains. The coach has publicly said they will sign JJ long term and keep him here. KAM said they’re at a point where they don’t agree so they’re basically on pause with Cousins.
The apples and oranges are they want to keep JJ, and they don’t want to keep Cousins. That’s fine too, because the NFL is a business. Contracts are written for one reason, to establish ownership rights of the player. The player signs a contract that says “I will play for you”. The team signs a contract that says I will pay you to play for me, and whenever I want I can trade you, cut you, or waive you. In other words pay you until I decide I don’t want to pay you anymore.
One has a much higher chance of being around for “a really long time” than the other.

Two very different points of their careers
My point is, if KAM was serious about keeping Cousins, he would have said something to the effect “We want Kirk here and we’re working hard to find a way to get this done”. He didn’t say that though. I just highlighted this because there are some folks who think keeping Cousins and keeping JJ are somehow linked (they aren’t) and KAM could work out some extension for Cousins (he isn’t). KAM knows he isn’t going to keep Cousins past 2023, but he just doesn’t want to say it. I mean it would be stupid to say it, but still.
My two cents is I think the value of a top 7 QB is WAY higher than even the best young WR in the game even if said QB is 34. Now add in Cousins has taken extremely good care of himself, doesn’t drink or party at all, has never had a single injury of any even semi concern, dude is a rock. He literally looks 29 and that is no joke and genetically is probably about at that average age neurologically and physically. So with that said I put Cousins value higher since he has likely 8 years of high level football left at the most important position in football.

That is all true, but KAM is a financial guy who grew up on Wall Street. He understands the value of a top shelf QB, but like others here doesn’t really want to pay the price for one. Indeed he might feel a young rookie could do well enough at a far lower investment. Who knows?
My take here is he sees Cousins as too costly, especially if he has no “outs” in the contract. Cousins will only agree to a contract with a no trade clause and lots of guaranteed money because he isn’t stupid. He’s seen how players get traded, cut, and waived with no impact to the team, thus have no power.
I think of he was planning on replacing kirk with a draft pick he would have done it this year. Playing a rookie never works the first year. If he plans to replace cousins with a rook then he is sacrificing 2024 for said rookies development. That doesn’t seem like a good plan to me in year 3 of a tenure unless you are 100% sure you’ll win at least 13 games again. They go that route and win like 9 or 10 games, then start a rookie in 2024 and win 6, KAM is gone. That’s the recent history of the league and an analytics guy isn’t going to miss that, at least I hope not. By not drafting a qb, in my mind, they have signaled they intend to keep cousins around for at least 2 or 3 years. That’s probably the hang up on a contract. They want 2 or 3 and kirk wants 4 or 5.
Kirk doesn’t want a 4 or 5 year contract. That locks him into a price for too long. Salaries for QB’s are escalating every year. So for Cousins, three year contracts are his sweet spot. He’s played the contract game somewhat masterfully all along. He isn’t going to change that.
As to KAM’s plan for a QB, I get the sense he’s playing it by ear. Next years draft may have an opportunity to get a top shelf rookie, or maybe he brings Teddy Bridgewater back. To me, that would make sense from a business perspective as many fans feel Teddy didn’t get a fair shake and this could make things right. It would make KAM look good in the eyes of the fans.
I think Cousins is excited about being on a prove it year he’s said as much. He’s embraced it and I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s willing to just ride and die with it and make $40 a yr livin on the edge of the cliff. Kirko really is becoming a gangster.

He will just look around the landscape, come up with a cheaper option and move on. The quality of the player is not the factor to KAM, the cost is. If he could write a contract and pay Cousins $45M a year with a lot of outs (meaning the contract is worthless because he’s never going to actually pay that amount) he’d do it. Cousins won’t sign a contract like that though. Thus, Cousins will not be a Viking after 2023 in my opinion.

About 16 months ago my shirt tail relative finished installing the platform (what I call a mezzanine) in our shouse shop, where we keep our clothes and my command center. He put 7 LED lights under the platform, where the washer/dryer, dog feeding station, shoe bench, etc are. Got a screaming deal on them at Menards. One burnt out last week, and two went out this morning. POS China crap. I’ll have to replace them all.
My wife said, well I do keep those lights on all day so it’s not like they don’t get used. They’re supposed to last thousands of hours!
Well, 24 hours a day for 16 months would be around 11,000 hours. If you figure 50% of the time you’re still over 5000.

The monitors I use at work have LED ambience lights that I set to project behind the monitors, eases eye strain and makes it less gloomy. They are on 10 hours a day and haven’t burned out yet. Now you might point out these monitors are 25K apiece so they might be better quality. I have nothing to say about that. Come to think of it they are probably China monitors as well.

So, private space travel “woke up” an entire coastal region last night around 10PM CST with a sonic boom. It was heard all the way from South Alabama to the Eastern Florida Panhandle. Most folks had no idea what was going on and it resulted in a surge of 911 calls from people thinking there had been an explosion. I thought it sounded like a huge object had landed on my roof. I walked the perimeter of my house with a flashlight, searching for the cause when all my neighbors start pouring out of their houses talking about the same noise. One of them works as a contractor for the Air Force, so he was able to check on some group list he has on his phone and was able to confirm the cause was the re-entry of SpaceX Freedom flight.
If Elon Musk wants to be a spaceman, so be it, but I hope there’s some accountability for these type of impacts on the public and government services.

I think the difference has been (I think remains) explosiveness. Mattison is a pretty good relief back, but Cook can take it the distance on any given play. That run against Miami last year showed Cook is as dangerous as ever in my opinion.

I posted this in a discussion with Lifer yesterday in regards to KAM’s “plan” for the Vikings.
The legitimate contenders in the league have a franchise quarterback surrounded by explosive playmakers with an exceptional offensive line leading the way. Defensively, the top teams can get after the passer with multiple players and they have a number of playmakers capable of taking over games. Whether it is coming up with timely turnovers or creating negative plays at the point of attack, the defense must have enough five-star talents to disrupt the flow of the opponent’s offense.
This is what Championship teams are made of. KAM has mentioned sticking to “their” plan in interviews, but no one has asked him exactly what “their” plan is. Simply put, we should be measuring KAM’s moves against the laydown I presented above. I see nothing to indicate he’s moving to accomplish this team make-up. Do we have some great players? We do. Do we have the blue-chip guys on defense that can truly change a game? We do not. Do we have an exceptional offensive line? To date, not even close.
I see no movement on any front, yet.

Explosive Playmakers – Check
Exceptional OL – 5 of the top 10 teams ranked by OL did not make the playoffs. MN ranked 13. PHI was 1 and KC was 3.
Defensively.. The scheme was an absolute mess. But, our playmakers came up with big plays to get some wins.
Week 3 vs. Lions – Mettalus intercepts Goff to seal the W.
Week 5 vs. Bears – Dantzler forces the fumble and recovers to seal the W.
Week 8 vs Cards – Z and Phillips go back to back with sacks to end the game.
Week 9 vs Skins – Hunter gets a big sack forcing 3&out and the offense drives the rest of the game for the W.
Week 10 vs. Bills – PP INT in the endzone to win it.
Week 12 vs. NE – Hunter gets a sack, Offense goes 3&out, Blacklock gets another sack on the ensuing defensive stand. Vikings win.
Week 13 vs. Jets – Bynum INT to seal the W.
Week 15 vs. Colts – 2nd half the Colts had 128 yards on 41 plays scoring 3 points when they started the half leading 36-7.
Week 16 vs. NYG – Mettalus blocks the punt, Offense scores go ahead TD
9/13 wins were a direct result of the Defense holding/taking over the game.

I am providing my perspective on the quality of players we’re bringing in, compared to a standard I have regarding the construction of a Championship caliber team.
KAM brings in a WR at 23 when guys like Murphy, Bresee, Banks, Mazi Smith, etc are sitting there. The defense made some very impressive late game plays last year for sure, but they were still a very, very bad defense. Not sure where you got the offensive line was ranked 13th. Not gonna worry about that though.
Bottom line here is the two teams in the Super Bowl had top-shelf O-lines. Also had great defenses, and of course excellent QB’s. They covered the bases. I don’t see the Vikings bringing in the top shelf talent they need to be a championship team. Rather I see guys being brought in who are either injured, viewed as diamonds in the rough, or veterans like Davenport who hasn’t produced much in his career and being paid $13M.
None of these guys have played a snap in the NFL. They could be All Pro or busts.

Reasonable take Northwoods. That said, the very questionable moves KAM has made now in two drafts (to me) demonstrate he doesn’t have what it takes to pull off a great deal. Rather he looks to get worked by other teams on the regular. Z Smith and Hock were great additions to the team BTW so kudo’s for those moves, but now Smith is gone. KAM brought in Davenport at $13M whose resume isn’t exactly glowing. He’s a good DE, but not a guy offenses will struggle to handle.
To say KAM just hasn’t had enough opportunity yet I think is a fair point, but he still has made a lot of errors thus far in my opinion.
I don’t have the memory to keep track of all the data, were there other DEs available that were better and for the same price?
I’m hoping that a couple of the other newer depth guys will develop into starters.

Dremont Jones got 3/51 29 games started 22 sacks
Zach Allen got 3/48 35 games started 11.5 sacks
Marcus Daventport 1/13 32 games staretd 21.5 sacks
I agree the Vikings should have taken a DL at #23.

Cousins can definitely sling it, and even when getting crushed repeatedly, he can stay focused and get the ball out accurately. This is throwing against air and working on timing. Nice throw on the corner route, and nice catch by Jalen Nailor though.

I think the facts speak for themselves here DE. Over the last 5 years Cousins has been the most hit, knocked down, sacked and pressured QB in the league playing behind one of the most consistently bad lines. YET only 4 QB’s have thrown for more yards, and only 3 have thrown more TD’s than he has.
To me, Cousins has been pretty remarkable considering he is pressured so much, so often.
He should’ve thrown it sooner.

And mine will be 4th and 18… grin. That pocket completely collapsed on that play and Cousins wasn’t going to get away from that defender. That’s the facts here. The play call was flawed. The Giants had been pounding on Cousins all day, so KOC calls a play where all three WR’s on the field run deep routes, and JJ is Cousins first read. Cousins has to hold the ball while reading the defense and also if JJ is going to cut the route short and give him a target. That doesn’t pan out. Then the rush is hitting him and he has to just get the ball out to Hockensen. If the play allowed Hockensen to work the middle of the field rather breaking to the outside, then Cousins likely hits him for a first down.
That’s how I see it and will for the foreseeable future.

The bad:
Stared down the receiver.
Led him a bit too far, creating an awkward catch that almost resulted in coming down out of bounds.
He was wide open several yards before that spot and could have been hit in stride easily for a more sure catch, especially given the fact that Cousins had zero pressure.
