What a terrrific weekend! I took Friday off, so it was a 3-day weekend for me. The temps were a bit cool, in the mid 70s, but it was sunny and there was little to no wind. Kiddo and I ran around a bit on Friday and had some fun, then we were mostly lazy on Saturday and we stayed out at the lake. Sunday was all yard work, but it was fun. The yard is looking better, the flower garden is amazing, and we got all of the veggies planted in our gardens. All in all, it was a great weekend. We had fun AND got a lot of to-dos checked off the list.

I’ve always liked Dalvin and have a ton of respect for him for overcoming some major life obstacles to reach the pinnacle of success in his profession. All the best to him wherever he goes (unless he’s playing us, of course).

No there’s not…the context of the conversations was assessing his value to the offense and that he is the primary weapon with 1300 rushing yards AND leading the team in receptions. Just because James has the same amount does not discount Barkley had the most receptions, no one had more, he had the most he is the most valuable player on their offense. My thoughts exactly. Leber is looking at this from a player perspective, not a team and current state of the league.
If he was looking at it from a players perspective, specifically Hunters, he would understand the reason Hunter likely isn’t reporting to mini camp is because of exactly what he suggested would be a possible solution. Hunter doesn’t want yet another one year bump he wants a longterm deal period so he doesn’t have to think about proving himself any longer and can just play and get paid.
Think the problem is the Vikes think his time to prove himself has come to an end. You cant keep kicking this can down the road ala Kirk, shit or get off the pot. Take the deal the team thinks is fair for both parties or, you’re gone. Thats the way the team should be operating with its aging Vets right now.
yeah I agree as much as I think Hunter is the biggest difference maker on our defense its just where the team and roster is at as you described with the new management. I don’t think Hunters expectations and team managements plans are aligned thus he likely gets moved.

If you over perform and feel you should be paid more and the team agrees, great, if not, tough titties, you signed the contract. I dont feel bad for players when it comes to this stuff You dont HAVE to play football for a career.

Thanks to some good fortune I upgraded my arrow thrower over the weekend. Now to decide how much to spend on accessories. I haven’t bought much for awhile and holy cow has that stuff gotten expensive.
Reminds me of going to that place called super*** archery out by Lockwood with one of my coworkers, he was getting his 12 year olds son bow adjusted and one of the customers said something like, gee I have always aspired to have that (call it the Rolex of bows) ________ bow how do you like it and my coworker said oh this is my 12 year olds, it is kind of a starting bow, I shoot a (call it the Patek Phillipe of bows). No further words were spoken by the other customer. I’m like social skills, man, social skills.
Yeah some of that stuff gets ridiculous. I will not go back to that place you are talking about. The son of the owner messed my bow up last year, I took it back in and the owner looked at it and it took him about half a second to say, well this isn’t put together right. The son is rude as hell too. I didn’t get quite the top top of bows, but it’s pretty damn nice. I remember when I thought it was crazy for a bow to cost $1000. Now they are pushing $2000.

I set about to get the trail/pull-behind 60″ mower I bought at the auction in tip top running shape. Adjusted the blade clutch tension, put in a new spark plug, and went to start it when I noticed the oil dip tube was broken. One of those odd moments when I was like gee it didn’t look like that before, cuz I checked the oil at the auction. Not sure what happened but maybe some critter stepped on it and broke it. Oh well a new dip tube comes tomorrow courtesy of amazon.
Gonna run down to my wife’s ex tonight and ask him to weld the hitch doodad I bought to the drawbar. Makes more sense to use a hitch to pull behind my side by side or tractor than the goofy pin thing they had on there. Good time to visit about our mutual annoyance (my stepson/his son).
As part of the farewell celebration for the young lady from Italy, my stepdaughter arranged for one of the local dinosaur experts to give a hike to the young ‘uns. I accompanied my 11 year old granddaughter because she asked me to go. It was a more vigorous (read: steep) hike than I expected but holy crap I learned a lot. As I suspected, many of the “rocks” I kick over when I hike around our place are fossilized turtles and the like. Was cool to learn how to spot teeth, scales, bones, etc…
Side note I got a little right Achilles tendinitis post hike. The old man cometh…

A big reason why we sucked last season on defense was our pass rush. I’d argue Hunter was the only one later in season actually getting pressure.

played softball last night, my team won both games 28-4 and 40-1.
we batted around almost 3 times in one inning in the 40-1 win. we swung at the very first pitch we saw every at bat and only went one base at a time.
if you are the manager of the other team, don’t you just call the game at some point? we played 55 minutes of a 40-1 game because they couldn’t get us out.
We always had a mercy rule.
15-0 by the 4th, and the game is over. 7 inning games.
We play 20 after 3, 15 after 4 and 12 after 5 but there are still some games that can get pretty bad.

“competitive” we have been the best team for 2 or 3 years now, it’s a dying league. 10 years ago there were 60 teams across 5 divisions, now there are 14 teams across 2 divisions.

Our league was set up that if you won the championship, you got moved up the next level the following year, or moved down if you got the tar whupped out of you.
But there was one team that always won but refused to move up because it would change their night of play. They had very good recruiting, most of their women could outhit the men on other teams. They were mad if they didn’t MercyRule every game. They caused many teams to quit the league because of scores like what you had.

my team doesn’t have a bunch of ringers, but we have very good defenders at key positions and we have 5 or 6 good hitters out of 11 that hit.

If they are a new team, they might not be experienced enough to know what to do in that situation.
The first year our team played, we were green and got destroyed every game and felt weird and awkward constantly and didn’t know what to do other than wait for it to be over. None of us had played in a league before.

Years ago I played in a ‘competitive’ league – we all had played ball and could hit pretty well. Our Ace was a local kid that played Juco ball – good hitter, great fielder and fast. We’re in the 4th inning of a game where we were up 22-2 and both our captain and the other teams captain went to the umpire and said it’s time to call the game. Ump said for it to count we had to finish the 4th inning or it would be recorded as a loss for both teams – we were batting the bottom of the inning so it was pointless to continue but the Ump wouldn’t budge. So we send the Ace up to lead off our half and he laces the first pitch into the gap between Center and Right. Easy double, except he gets his foot caught rounding the bag and snaps his ankle. I can still hear the crack. Game over. Several of my teammates had to be held back from that umpire – who blamed us and claimed we should have swung at every pitch to intentionally strike out three times and the game would be over. Ump never called another game in that league as long as we were in it. Ace ended up okay. He’s a Cop here in town.

i play SS and the fields aren’t taken care of well, and i wasn’t about to get a ball in the face winning by that much.

Totally understand. If I’m not behind the plate I’m playing 3B or RF. At the time this was loosely a ‘church’ league, which was funny considering I got railroaded twice playing catcher – Out both times fuckers, I don’t drop the ball. The 2nd time it damn near kicked off a full scale brawl as I had caught the relay as the runner was rounding 3rd and made a conscious decision to lower his shoulder.

Very true. Not sure how we ended up in the league. We were playing teams named ‘The Heavenly Hitters’ and ‘The Holy Rollers’ our name was the KIW All-Stars – which stood for ‘Keeping It Wet’ our logo was a raincloud over an apple pie… Led to some awkward conversations behind the plate.
Our youth minister got in a fight at a church softball game when I was a kid.
My sons baseball team when he was in eighth or ninth grade, played a team from Kansas. they were in the little league world series the year before. The Kansas team beat them 27-1 in their first meeting. We ended up facing them in the championship game. They got up by 7 and started hitting pop flies to get the game over with.
That was unsportsmanlike of you grown men running up the score on the kids from the oncology ward at St. Jude’s.

Played “B League” softball one year. Teams were so good that it was not fun for me.
Dropped down to D League Co-ed so I could play first base with my beer in hand trying to field bad throws from 3rd, and nobody yelled when I messed up.

It’s weird because obviously these certain RBs are better than most (top-5), but the trade-off between money and game impact doesn’t make sense for teams. It’s the weirdest position in the NFL to determine contracts, IMO.
As for Zeke and Hunter, I don’t get the holding out when you’re injured so often.

First of all, you pay a guy based on past success to an extent, but really you pay a guy for what he’ll do for you in the future. Past success for a RB does not guarantee future success.
RBs are very much at the mercy of who is blocking for them.
RBs also risk injury perhaps more than any other offensive player. Lots of getting tackled.
RBs fall off of a cliff in ability faster than any position.
RBs are also some of the most replaceable players (late round RBs fill in fine many times).
Great RBs help drive an offense, but second contract RBs almost always disappoint. I don’t blame the Giants.
He didn’t lead the team in receptions, but you’re right the offense goes primarily through him, I’m guessing year two under Daboll that moves more to a pass first approach.

and nobody is saying they are “bad” players. It’s just a financial game. Getting one of these guys cheap would be a boon for most teams.

I was up in your neck of the woods this weekend. Picked kind of a cruddy day to do outside stuff Saturday. Looks like Sunday was nice, but we were on the road back by 7ish. I was ready to get going. Didn’t sleep at all in the hotel. We stayed there before, and it was great. Most comfortable hotel bed I’d ever slept on. But it sucked this time. Hotel was also full of kids for a baseball tournament. Man, they had energy. Constant thump, thump, thump on the floors and walls all evening. I heard one thump so loud, I swear the kid ran into a wall full sprint and probably died.
Yes! That is exactly the sound I heard!
