Today is a history flag day, here are some dos and don’ts for flag day from USA Today.
From twincities.com, despite some pre-camp media hysteria to the contrary, Justin Jefferson attended team mandatory minicamp. Danielle Hunter did not attend, which came as a surprise to absolutely nobody. I expect Hunter to be traded, let him go be disgruntled somewhere else. Judging by how KAM has dealt with other situations, I think a trade is highly probable.
Vikings.com has an update from training camp, including JJ’s quick reconnect with the offense.

At Vikings.com, KOC says he sees retaining Danielle Hunter as a real outcome, desptie reports to the contrary. I have a feeling that KOC is just saying what he needs to say right now. I’d be very surprised if the team doesn’t trade Hunter.

Here are some great books in this thread for anyone heading off to vaca and needing a good book to take with them. I plan on reading them all eventually.
Flying to the homeland tomorrow morning. 6am flight to MSP then 9 am flight to Bemidji. Visiting my parents for a day then driving to Brainerd for my buddies wedding.

I think that e-nicotine products are felt to be safer but also have a high abuse potential, especially among teenagers. There’s not a lot of data on their long term safety.
With puberty blockers I think it’s ok if teens use them.

Daily cannabis use, multiple forms. Gave up cigarettes almost 3 years ago. Can count on one hand the number of ‘cheat’ cigarettes I’ve had with fingers to spare, the last being in December before my heart scare. Still use a Juul, going thru 1 cartridge every 2 days. I’ve got my eyes on being under 3 bills for the first time in a decade. Goal is Kickoff day. Holding firm at 310-312.
Thinking about trying some of the Delta 9 products and going completely off the deep end and of course taking every one of you sob’s with me.

I’ve found minimal difference in the high between Indica/Sativa. Ultimately the deciding factor for me is Skunk smell and THC %. The flower I get now usually lands around 28-32% (the best KB back in the day was maybe 12-13% with Reggie’s being usually 4-6%) The carts I get are a lot higher, 85 – 93% and will blow your hair back.
I loved the skunk weed I use to get back in the 80’s from Meigs county in Ohio. It was the first indica that was introduced in the area and it was absolute rocket fuel. You couldn’t have it in your pocket in a baggie you’d smell it had to use film capsules and you could see the thc crystallization on the buds. Just the best shit. Wish I could get that here in NC.

I was getting some of that shit in Chicago back in 2014. Hydroponics system shit. It was set your brain on the coffee table stuff and yeah strong. I think I prefer the grown in the ground. I worry about the chemicals they use to grow the other shit. I like to burn and smoke my weed old school not the other ways you can injest it. Ice bongs are my fav haven’t done that in decades.

I’m aware. I would get the medicinal death stars on the regular. My favorite edible. THC capped now but I’d get them in 100mg gummies – and the shelf life was amazing. I bought some black market ones a few years ago in Denver and they too, were insane. I was popping death stars during the Vikes run last year. My mom smoked in high school and then again the last 6 months of her life. Momma and I would get high and watch the winery episode of I Love Lucy and cackle. Momma was a peach.

Older brother visited us at home when I was 17 back in 85 and left her a joint and she smoked it with me so I would be with her at home the first time not out on the street. Smart cause it locked me straight up and I had to go to bed. I smoked all through my senior year of HS with friends and I grew a lot of weed in Wva and I mean a lot. Was big business there so the cultivation I am really good at but now as Mick said that’s all changed. Met my wife in 2002 and quit smoking as i really wasn’t a lot with healthcare drug testing for work. Wife she’s a goodie two shoes never done a single drug her entire life and I mean nothing. Of course two master degrees and working on her PHD so there ya go. Different priorities.

I’ve found that the weed makes me far less homicidal and more able to tolerate the general indifference to common courtesy and selfishness on the daily. On the road is where I struggle most. My wife calls it road rage with how frequently I flip the bird at other drivers (I drive with my finger cocked and ready) I have no tolerance for people texting/phone to their ears while driving. Sit at traffic light wherever you live and watch people cross the intersection. I’d bet you’ll see a high % of people looking up at the light as they cross the intersection and immediately looking down at their phones to whatever is so GD important. So yeah…. Weed.
I’ve grown and smoked enough weed in my life to say yeah it’s typically a chill effect as I usually only did it in comfortable environments to enjoy the high. Especially movies or watching Viking games at home. Not big on the crowd and being high thing. Rather have all my faculties at an optimal state in those situations. Can’t golf high as focus is not their but it’s fun as shit.

Yeah. I wouldn’t just jump back into it. I’ve been a daily smoker for over 20 years. I reset myself and go 5/7 days without every few months. Be doing it again early August. Resets my tolerance, clears my mind, I find my keys. Good times.

So how do you get it?
The great state of Colorado. There are about 8-10 dispensaries east of Denver. I usually go as far west as Fort Morgan. Any closer and you’re paying Denver city sales tax on top of the weed tax, which differs in every county. Rule is 1 oz per dispensary per customer per day. That equates to an Oz of flower or 8 Vape Carts or 100mg Edibles packages. So I load up. Then there are another 1/2 dozen ‘dark’ dispensaries, all black market. 75% of the same products with much higher limits. I leave Lincoln around midnight, under cover of darkness and take advantage of light traffic. I’m hitting the first legal dispensaries when they open, then the dark ones. Then I fuel up, pop a Xanax and will puff on a cart until I hit Julesburg – 10 miles out of the NE border. There I hit the head, check the load, put in eye drops and drop the hammer until I hit Kearney, Nebraska. Refuel and its smooth sailing into the tail end of rush hour traffic in Lincoln. I live by this mantra on the road: Always follow the rules when you’re breaking the law. I belt up, don’t speed and use my signals for everything.
All of it personal use BTW. I’ll pinch a Bud here and there to someone or roll them a joint, but I don’t sell.

Last year my parents’ camper burned, also their storage shed with all their tools. Only thing salvaged in the rubble was a set of Duracraft Drop Forged wrenches (with open and closed ends). They are coated with soot, melted plastic.
Ideas on the best way to clean them without ruining them further? Easy Off oven cleaner? Wire brush? Wire wheel? SOS pads?
I would try getting the big stuff off and then use a sonic cleaner if you have access to one. The sonic cleaner wouldn’t take the plastic off but it should take the soot and such of and shine em back up.
Unfortunately I don’t know anyone who works in a shop – some of these wrenches are 16″ long.
Bummer. Not sure how expensive a sonic cleaner that large would be. I’ve got a small one for reloading that was pretty cheap but definitely not big enough for that.
You might be able to find a tumbler big enough.
This might be large enough and with stainless media should clean stuff up good.

Now in truth what with the fact GDV only has one craft brewery and it is far from the best in the state I spend a lot less time at a craft brewery than I did in BIL when I had my choice of about a dozen breweries at the end of the day on a Friday. Outside of football season I probably have about 4 beers a month.
The DEA will require that any license renewal in the future be predicated on having 8 hours of CME specifically related to substance abuse. I call this the opioid crisis rule. I am a little over half way through, did the alcohol abuse module yesterday. While I wouldn’t choose to be educated on something that professionally I am not involved with (substance abuse counseling and rehab), it has been an educational series.
I learned that 5 servings of alcohol on any day or more than 14 in a week is defined as heavy alcohol use for men by the NIAAA. Binge drinking is 5 or more drinks in about two hours. SAMHSA defines heavy drinking as binge drinking 5 or more days a month.
I was glad to see that I’ve not crossed the line into binge drinking in a long long time. Thanks to football games being longer than two hours. LOL

So The Teacher got her post op Brace/Padding removed Monday and got her new cast put on.
In two weeks she goes back and if all is looking well she might be able to move to a ‘boot’.
Last time (5yrs ago) she had to do 5-6 weeks in a cast.
And yes moving from the parking lot thru the lobby and up the elevator to the Dr’s office, plus restrooms, she hit small bumps/rugs/thresholds that caused the Knee Scooter issues.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Mattison as the newly crowned RB1. A lot of the discussion I’ve seen here and on other blogs jumps to the yards per attempt comparison between Cook and Mattison in 2022, which was 4.44 versus 3.82 Y/A, respectively.
That said, I remembered some commentary when Mattison was drafted that talked about how in college he tended to get stronger (i.e. more productive) later in games and the more he was involved. I haven’t done the work to go back and look at his game splits but I did review a couple of his draft profiles this morning, and this was a common refrain among his “strengths” that were listed.
So, I decided to take a look at his numbers over his first 4 seasons as a Viking and the results give me some hope with him as our lead back.
To date, Mattison has played in 58 NFL games. He’s played 14 games where he got 10 or more carries and has a 4.32 Y/A average in those games. He had 20 or more carries in 5 of those games, with a 4.58 Y/A average. Both are a relatively small sample size but it does support the idea that he gets stronger the more he’s involved in the game.
By contrast, using a similar sample size, Cook had 15 games in 2022 with 10 or more carries with a 4.53 Y/A average. However, it drops to 4.23 Y/A if you take out one run…the 81 yard scamper against the Bills. I’m not a big “yeah, but if you take out the big runs” guy; however, that one play paints a significantly different picture when comparing Mattison career versus Cook 2022 when they have similar workloads. Additionally, in the 5 of 15 games where Cook had 20 or more carries, his Y/A average drops to 3.97, which is significantly lower than Mattison in his 5 20+ carry games.
So, why is Mattison’s 2022 3.82 Y/A so much lower than Cook’s 4.44 Y/A? Because Mattison had less than 5 carries in 11 of the 17 games last season. In those games, he had an average 2.52 Y/A. Whereas Cook had zero games with less than 5 carries and only 2 games with less than 10 carries. That said, if you take Mattison’s career results and extrapolate them to a theoretical 2023 season where he has a similar work load to 2022 Cook (i.e. same number of attempts), his rushing stat line could look something like this: 264 attempts, 1,132 yards, 4.29 Y/A. Not too shabby.
Even better, Mattison has 2 career fumbles on 474 touches (i.e. rush attempts and pass receptions) compared to Dalvin who fumbled 4 times in 2022 on 298 touches.
As far as the passing game, I didn’t do a deep dive but Mattison has 70 career receptions with a 7.50 Y/R average and an 83.3% catch rate compared to 2022 Cook who had 39 receptions, 7.56 Y/R and a 69.6% catch rate. If you take Dalvin’s 2022 targets along with Mattison’s career stat line, and assume he gets the same opportunity in 2023, it would project to this receiving stat line: 56 targets, 47 receptions, 350 yards with a 7.50 Y/R average.

Killed my first rattlesnake yesterday. When I encounter them up in the hills I leave them alone but this one was in the alfalfa 30 yards from my cattle guard. The younger choco Bubba came racing through the alfalfa as I was walking on the road (the grass is almost as high as their head) and alerted and turned on something. When a hunting dog alerts and no bird or rabbit jumps out you have to think something like a skunk, porcupine or snake. I hit him with a “4” on the e-collar and he came over to me. The older choco Tuck wondered what I was yelling “come” for and ran right by the same area, dropped the ball he had in his mouth and started sniffing at something about two feet away. Right then I heard the buzz and yelled “COME TUCK” while hitting the e-collar button. He kept dancing as I cranked the dial to “10” then realized I had forgotten to switch from Bubba to Tuck as poor Bubba writhed at my feet. Switched to Tuck and got them sitting down on the road, kept pointing towards the snake and saying BAD BAD.
Got a shovel and removed his head from his body. 13 buttons. Cool how the body will coil up around your arm like a chicken with its head cut off.

Offense will be worse. Can’t see why it’s better without Cook. That is unless Addison is legit. Defense has even less talent, especially if they get rid of Hunter.
Offense will be more pass centric, and Cook was the most inefficient back in the league last year. A wash as I see it. The defense as it was in the playoff game hasn’t lost any significant “talent” though losing Hunter would be significant. Donatell sucks so upgrading there. Either way I still expect somewhere between 7 to 10 wins for the season.
Hard to see it being better without Defenses having to plan for Dalvin’s explosive play potential. Maybe Ty Chandler and Ride or McBride show that ability.

he isn’t a qb who will lead a team who is bad at 2 of 3 facets of the game, to the promised land.
if the team has the leagues worst defense and hit or miss kicking, he isn’t good enough to overcome that like…idk…only MAYBE 3 other qb’s in the current league are.
if the vikings have a 15ish ranked defense, i think we have a WAY better chance at going deep into the playoffs.

Or who knows, maybe they’re just idiots.
