Happy belated Father’s Day to all the dads out there! I hope all of you had a fun and relaxing Father’s Day weekend. We had a good time. I wanted to get the boat out, but we seemed to run out of time. We did a little golfing yesterday, I almost hit a hole-in-one on the giraffe hole and I scored 2 on several holes. All in all, it was a successful round.
I also made a prime rib on the smoker yesterday, which turned out absolutely amazing. I’ve made enough of them now where I have it down to an art. My wife also made a gluten-free chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Yum yum all around.

Amazing day yesterday – started with being woken up to a plate of pancakes and sausages, wife had the truck backed up to the boat (for me to hook up) and a cooler packed with snacks and beer.
Figured on doing some panfishing with the boys, bought some worms on the way but once we got out on the lake I realized I left my tacklebox in the garage. All my rods were loaded with rapalas, so gave my 13-year old a crash course in keeping us in 10 FOW along the shore line, and I set the rods out in the rodholders, figuring we could find some crappies and/or perch.
Went past a rock point and one of them doubled over – netted a nice walleye, tossed it into the live well, had my kid turn us around and go over that point again. Rod doubled over again but this time the drag pulled steady – snagged on something. Instructed kiddo to turn us around and began to reel in the other lines so we didn’t drive over them.
Kiddo didn’t quite understand and by the time I got the other lines pulled in, the short spool was nearly empty, then it WAS empty and the line snapped at the reel. Got the boat turned around and we could see the line floating on the surface yet – steered over to it and scooped it out of the water, thinking I would pull it in and get the rapala.
I felt a tug on the other end. A big tug. Killed the trolling motor and got the line threaded down the eyelets and reattached to the spool. Pulled in a 24″ walleye!!
Not sure if it bit, then wrapped it on a snag and eventually came loose, or if it bit the rapala while it was snagged.

Your starting DBs suffer massive injury concerns with Evans (3 concussions in 1 season), Booth (injury riddled since High School), and Murphy
Cine is still 4th on the depth chart (LOL) with Bynum who sucks donkies winning the competition thus far. Mettlus showed competency but who knows if he can play 17 games as the starter.
Hicks sucks. Asmoah has flashed but only played like 100 snaps last season or less.

Hunter? Yeah maybe, but he’s in a 3-4 as an outside linebacker, not a 4-3 defensive end. Hitman? Yeah maybe, but he’s getting a little long in the tooth. That’s about it from where I’m sitting.

According to an article I read, the Vikings believe JJ is their cornerstone player, the best receiver in the league. They want to sign him to an extension at some point. but he’s only three years into a rookie deal that has two years left with a fifth-year option, so not in a major rush to do it right now.
I disagree with this philosophy. Two years from now the price of a WR is only going to go up. Get a deal done now, at today’s prices, or slightly more. If you do that, three years from now JJ will be a bargain.
Agree with your thinking about get it down now, but not sure a WR is a cornerstone player.

But I’m old school and believe the way to build a team, is you first get the QB, then get him protection, and then weapons. Soon Cousins is gone, line is still iffy, but we have JJ. JJ will still be great, but not sure that’s quite a “cornerstone” way.

JJ is the same player with or without Cousins. He’s a gifted WR. IF the Vikings see him as the cornerstone of the franchise, then they should not wait to negotiate another deal. Fiscally it makes sense to get him on contract sooner rather than later. That was the context of my comment.

Do believe JJ will get extended but it’s an interesting question. Many on here believe we should swing big and go for a complete rebuild. To that end, I can recall teams building around a franchise QB, a great OL line, or a great defense. Not sure I remember any being built around an elite receiver.
i don’t know how to help some see the Vikings are rebuilding if the can’t already see it.
Competitive rebuild. A full on rebuild would be the AZ cardinals or something like that or the panthers last season.

I think cousins has 2-3 years left of solid legit play. Vikes do need a plan for the future, but if they think selling the farm for a top guy next year, 5th round loser is good, or Nick Mullens is the answer…. that’s a massive risk that get’s people fired if it doesn’t work out.
My dream scenario is the defense shows competency, they extend kirk 2-3 years and sell the farm for a top QB and let them sit under Kirk.
It’s most likely how it plays out. They want to make sure that Kirk is “their” guy going forward and need 2023 to evaluate if that is what they wnat to do.
Kwesi has said Kirk has nothing to prove to him, which is correct. What needs to be figured out is if KO wants to continue down this road with Kirk or not.
They can get a 3/135 fully guaranteed deal to work with Kirk. Not a huge issue, he’s left with about the same dead cap hit in 2027 as he would be leaving with next year.
There’s more to it than Kirks ability. What happens if the offense does well but the defense is a complete dumpster fire again?
Do they continue down that same path for a 3rd year in a row under KOC? They’ve all but removed every “zimmer” vet except Hunter and Harry…and if Hunter goes it’s just Harry left. That mess squarely falls on the new regime.
So on the one hand the Vikings need 2023 to be sure Cousins is “their guy” and on the other hand the GM says Cousins has nothing to prove to him.
This makes zero rational sense.
