The dreaded Tuesday is upon us. A few more short days until July. Man, the summer is flying by too quickly, in my opinion. The only good thing about that is that it means that we’re closer to football season. Is anyone planning to make the trip to training camp this year? We’re talking about possibly getting there, I’ll update on here as it gets closer & we decide.

Hear me out. Since Walmart, target, etc. can sell liquor and beer why don’t hardware stores like Menards and Home Depot do the same?

Because politicians think they know best.
I assume since Walmart and Target sell food, they can sell liquor.

Some Walmarts have alcohol out here, some don’t.
Not sure who gets to pick and choose.

You probably have to have a license to sell.
Home stores aren’t shooting for the volume on alcohol sales, so it’s probably not worth the hoops and regs to sell it.

I played with a Pharma CFO from Richmond, VA and his two 1st year college sons. Great kids and he was a very very nice guy. He shot a 42 on the front nine and the wind was howling today in 90 degree heat. Not sure what he shot on the back I quit keeping their score but probably a 45. His two sons are learning the game but did really good considering.

I could hang with him easily I just hit to many errand tee shots to start and I ended up playing hero go for it golf on every shot because I got frustrated.

Yeah I knew better but thought instead of trying to shoot a score go for some shots. Many worked well hit some absolutely gorgeous 3 wood recovery 2nd shots that actually gives me a lot of confidence to go for the 240+ 2nd shots now instead of laying up to a gap wedge distance. Had I played more conservative I could have broke 100 but I didn’t.

Had some amazing shots and chipped out of my mind. Very very excited about my short game now it’s the strength of my game. I would have shot a 115 today if not for my chipping and putting. So that was good. Struggled off the tee driver was shit 50% of the time and then I’d absolutely smoke one 260 down the middle. It was madding. Irons were ok, hit some deliberate draws that were absolutely beautiful so nice to start to have the feeling I can work shots. My struggle today was 100-125 wedge shots I pulled every single one of them. It was crazy I could not stop from doing it. Would be green side and would get up and down but could of had so many birdie and par putts if I could just get on the green. Oh well it’s golf. Some things to work on but happy about some parts of my game.

The secret to stopping these pulls is to go to the range and hit shots with head covers under your armpits. This drill makes your body and arms stay more in sync through impact, reducing happy hands. When your body is connected, the hands will work with — not against — the motions of the torso. Basically your hands and arms are outracing your body because the club is so short. Remember, you need to swing the club into the ball from the inside and bottom out in front of the ball. Also you’re out of rhythm when you let your arms and hands outrace your body.

I understand maybe 50% of what he just said…Maybe thats why I suck at golf. But this sounds like problems with my swing as well, I tend to pull most shots.

No longer New Vikings Fan
Reply to  NoDakRube

So you should swing the club up and back using your hips and shoulders going back. At the top, your back should be facing the target if you have turned correctly. Also your left shoulder is pointing at the ball. You start the downswing by turning your left hip and straightening your left leg, and allow your shoulders, arms and hands to be pulled through the ball with the rotation of your torso. Teach yourself to sequence your swing this way, and the club should swing on the proper arc from inside the target line to the ball. Also by turning your hips and torso, the club swings down and bottoms out in front of the ball ensuring good contact. When you practice and warm up, this is the first “feel” you need to ingrain. Swing the club from the inside, bottom out in front of the ball.

Hey JR, we’re getting through it. Met with the estate lawyer Monday and he gave us a list of documents he needed. Spent the day today garnering them. Found four life insurance policies (whole life) purchased between 1975 and 1987. Three of them were for $5K and one was for $10K. No idea what their value is today. Called the insurance company and they verified the policies were still in-effect and are sending the claim forms. So far everything is either in a trust, jointly owned by my sister, or she was the beneficiary. I think we might avoid probate on an extremely large estate.

Yeah it was definitely a fast tempo thing. Contact was pure always nice high shots with lots of spin so they would stop even on green side grass. Just dead straight pulls. Thanks I’ll work on it should be a rather easy fix as I use to not do that it just was there today and I could not course correct.

Some thoughts on several of your posts here.
First, a lot of golfers will pull wedges and short irons. Simple answer – don’t swing so hard, these are accuracy clubs and you should never feel like you have to swing hard. If you feel like you have to jump on it, club down. Now, I didn’t say easy, just not hard.
Second. you have mentioned the last couple of weeks screwing up the first couple of holes. So. play them for a bogey. 7 or 5 wood off the tee, mid iron up close and a pitch and put. Once you get into the round, then go for it. Remember, the range is not the golf course. Shots mean nothing there and your mind knows that.

Lifer
Admin
Reply to  JRobert
27 June 2023 6:02 pm

Yeah I think I was doing exactly that with my wedges, swinging about 15% too hard instead of just controlled and smooth.

Your second point is exactly what I was thinking on the ride back to the condo. Why didn’t I, as I have many times on my home course on the hard #1 hole, pull out my 3 wood and get a ball in play to ease in to the round. 1st hole was relatively wide open hence why I thought driver was ok but I should have recognized my nerves and lack of tempo wasn’t there yet.

Damn mind getting in the way again. I need to punish it.

That’s funny, I had never heard of blood sausage being served in Germany until this moment, looked it up (blutwurst)…I don’t think it is very popular there.

My dad regaled me as a child of his stories of having only blood sausage to eat for many many meals growing up in Wales, only it is called black pudding there. Frequently the filler is horse meat. Now I have no scruples eating horse meat but that would be a brutal job, working on the kill floor at an equine abattoir.

He’s 36, on the downside not the upside of his career.

If, like my peanut brain has been saying all off-season, he blows up and has an MVP year and leads em to a Super Bowl… he’s not going anywhere.

if he has another year like last year… and his prior years with a early playoff exit, they’re more than likely moving on.

and not to say he’s done bad here, because he hasn’t, but absent a huge step forward next year team wise, they’re going to need to look at where to cut costs moving forward with guys like JJ, TJ, Darrisaw, and a few others needing new deals.

just business.

Good morning Skoloholics!

Officially officiated my first official wedding. Vermont was beautiful. Days and evenings spent in the woods. Had a high-end AirBnB in the mountains. Place was completely tricked out – fire pit, indoor and outdoor jacuzzi, game room with a mini-arcade (set the high-score on Excitebike and filled in the initials as ASS, hehe) Place was loaded. Was able to write the ceremony, my monologue and closing while sitting just a few yards from a babbling brook – it was a cross between a Terry Redlin portrait and a Norman Rockwell print. Almost like a dream.

Then I got robbed in downtown Burlington, VT.

Not even in a cool way. When I was 19 and delivering pizza I had a kid younger than me stick a revolver in my face for $17 in my tip bag and a medium pepperoni pizza – that had more honor than the gutless, basement dwelling swine that walked by and swiped data off of a debit card, then withdrew almost $300 in cash from a Kwik Shop 5 minutes away.

I went there, confronted a clerk who blinked harder and talked faster the more questions I asked regarding who’s been in and what cameras were recording the ATM where the cash was withdrawn. Unsolicited, he said I might want to check and see if my phone was hacked – this was before I said anything about being robbed. I just started asking questions. Interesting right?

Called BPD. Got a voicemail that said due to staff issues only serious calls were being handled directly by officers. Was routed to a website to file an ‘official complaint’ which I did. All of this was done from the front of the store. Then I went to the attached pay phone, Called BPD non-emergency and asked if an out-of-town tourist smashing in a local convenience store clerk’s head with a tire iron would constitute a ‘serious’ call and left the receiver to dangle. Got to the top of the hill when the first cruiser came past me toward the store. Don’t know what happened, don’t care if it’s resolved, just wanted someone to get off their ass.

Aside from that garbage experience the trip was awesome. Also, downtown Burlington is beautiful and the Hilton Garden Inn is lights out.

SKOL!

Yeah. That part sucked. I’m a giving guy – I know it’s probably a waste, but I frequently will give change/cash to panhandlers here in Lincoln, or if my wife and I dine downtown we’ll often buy an extra sandwich or two and give them to one of the many street people here in town. To have someone take something from me, after already infusing a decent amount of cash into the local economy, felt like a slap in the face. Is what it is.

My hypothesis is that it was the clerk who I confronted or him and somebody else. Locals tell me that data theft is apparently pretty big there. Lesson learned. Cards re-ordered (all of them) and they’re all virtually locked down now via my banking apps.

Most, if not all bank/debit/credit cards have a feature on their respective smartphone apps that the owner can use to ‘lock’ the card. Simple swipe of a finger and the card can’t be used unless unlocked.

Correct. Wasn’t worried about my black card – fraud protection and all that and they frequently contact me when I make purchases just to verify it was me. Wife and I have a joint account that also has these features. The card that was robbed was a Branch card – it’s how I take payment for client services as an independent contractor or taking personal payment via Venmo or Zelle and I funnel money to it to use in an emergency situation. Usually keep a few grand on that card, with a $300 daily limit that I can adjust – it was dumb luck that I happened to check it after checking in at the Hilton as the entire trip was funded in cash or on my black card.

My thinking as well – apparently when your data is swiped the way mine was they can basically clone the card, create their own password for one-time use and then take whatever cash the card limit will allow. I’ve only learned all this recently – as luck would have it one of the Bride’s had a family member who was recently retired FBI – she was awesome, had great stories. She now works with banks and lending organizations as a private contractor specializing in bank fraud. She’s who I needed that day in Burlington, but her insight was helpful nonetheless.

Sounds like a loophole that needs to be closed by the issuing financial institution.

My wife and her sister were in Minneapolis a few years back, vehicle was broken into and both purses stolen. Perps had quite a run, filling gas tanks, buying new tires, buying out a local WalMart, all within an hour before the cards were shut off. Perps got caught later in the evening committing more crimes, were found with numerous other CCs including my wife’s and SIL’s.

Funny thing – our bank (RCU) covered every charge, their bank (Wells Fargo) made them liable for an amount.

This wasn’t the first time these guys have bilked a rube tourist and I’m sure it won’t be the last unless BPD starts an investigation, which is unlikely. Received a boiler plate follow up email from BPD that basically said ‘don’t hold your breath’ …. It was about 90 minutes out of my week I could’ve done without but after doing some initial damage control vis-à-vis notifying banking/credit institutions and getting a SitRep, I refused to let it ruin my day, let alone my trip.

NFL Analyst Believes Vikings’ Defense Will Make Big Jump Under Brian Flores

Bucky Brooks believes Flores will “transform” the Vikings’ defense this year, leading to much-improved results.

His replacement is Flores, a widely-respected defensive coach who was a longtime Patriots assistant under Bill Belichick before spending three seasons as the Dolphins’ head coach. Last season, Flores was an assistant with the Steelers. Under “B-Flo,” the Vikings promise to be much more aggressive than they were a year ago. Their goal, more or less, is to utilize a creative variety of formations, personnel groupings, coverages, and designed pressures to keep offenses guessing.

Brooks is a believer in Flores’ ability to turn things around right away in Minnesota. The former NFL player and scout listed the Vikings as one of the four defenses he believes will make the biggest jump in 2023, saying he thinks Flores will “transform” the unit.

The Vikings are hoping Brooks is right. They need Flores and his scheme to do some heavy lifting this year, because a defense that was already bad in 2022 lost a bunch of key pieces this offseason: Patrick Peterson, Za’Darius Smith, Dalvin Tomlinson, Eric Kendricks, and Duke Shelley, as well as a couple other role players.

The cupboard isn’t completely bare when it comes to talent, though. Longtime stars Harrison Smith and Danielle Hunter are still around, though the latter’s future is uncertain for contract reasons. Former early draft picks Byron Murphy Jr. and Marcus Davenport were brought in during free agency after their rookie contracts expired with their original teams. Players like Harrison Phillips, Jordan Hicks, and Dean Lowry are solid, experienced veterans.

The key for the Vikings will be whether or not Flores and his staff can get significant production out of young first- and second-year players like Lewis Cine, Akayleb Evans, Brian Asamoah, Mekhi Blackmon, Andrew Booth Jr., and Jaquelin Roy.
Even though it’s a defense that lacks major star power, Flores will attempt to put the best 11 players on the field to maximize his scheme and help the Vikings put up much better numbers on that side of the ball in 2023.

Easiest way I hear is to not pay your taxes, let alone not even report them. You know,we’re all about millionaires paying their fair share.

If anyone is paying attention or you can always cry fake news and run to your bubble.

Annual inflation has been falling for 11 months—and is less than half what it was last June.

And that’s the tip of the iceberg:

-Gas prices are down about $1.40 from their peak after Putin’s war.

-Energy prices fell 11% over the last year.

-Grocery prices are trending down—egg prices down nearly 30% since January.

-More than 13 million jobs have been created and unemployment has been under 4% for 16 months.

Gas prices are down about $1.40 from their peak after Putin’s war.

The war is still going on. War caused the surge in prices, but now the same war is causing a drop in prices?

Your reading comprehension skills are diminished. I believe you have a shrinking brain and need a nap of at least 45-60 mins today.

The statement is saying, as was verified by the international oil market, that Putins war was the direct effect on the raise in gas prices. Biden’s admin worked and succeeded in helping reduce some of the inflated prices. Not all.

How did Biden do this?

1. Releasing oil from the strategist reserve
2. Removing restrictions on sale of higher-ethanol fuel
3. Asking oil-producing nations to increase production
4. Pressuring U.S. oil companies
5. Promoting the transition to renewable energy

Global oil prices have fallen about 35% since June as strict coronavirus restrictions in China have kept demand weak, and as some of the world’s major economies have signaled they are heading toward a recession.

9mm socket. There in every socket set but there’s little to no use for it other than to sit next to the location of your important 10mm.

Yep. That’s why the fed has been increasing interest rates. To curb inflation.
Economics 101. Which will likely cause a recession, eventually.

Yes and a necessary measure. Can’t spend unchecked money like Trumps admin did and not have a cause and effect. Same ole story…the conservative talkers of fiscal responsibility blow the deficit up and cause inflation and the Democrats come in to office and fix it. Happened with Bush / Obama and now again with Trump / Biden. You’re welcome.

You had the perfect opportunity to throw in Bush / Clinton, who then balanced the budget and reduced the deficit to zero, but as usual you’re caught standing with your cock in your hand.

In Trumps entire 4 year period the total cumulative inflation was 5.3%.
In Sleepy”s first 2 years the cumulative inflation rates was 12.4%.

Nice job Sleepy Joe.

Really…you’re going to try and hunt that dog??? You’re not that economically stupid. Trumps bungling of the pandemic and tax breaks for the rich as with all republican policies take time to sky rocket inflation.

First two years under Biden we spent $12,025 Billiions.

Yep, Tump is the big spender.

There is still inflation which means prices overall are still going up, just not as bad when you compare to the ridiculous, historic inflation of a year ago. Saving 30% from the 200% increase on a carton of eggs should definitely help people out. Real wages are falling, but less than last year so the dumb libs call that a win. If the Vikings lost to the Packers by 30 in their first game, Lifer would call it a victory if they only lost the second game by 25.

You do realize that the inflation “falling” is a smaller increase to a historic increase than the historic increase was over the previous year? No, you don’t. Inflation will look better now because we’ve went more than a year since this debacle started, it’s only reported in the news media as a comparison to the previous year, and it’s still bad. According to CPI data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, if you had $100 in May 2021, you would have to have $108.58 in May 2022 and $112.98 in May 2023. It’s like saying, “hey, I stole $8 from you last year, but I only stole $12 this year which was only a $4 increase instead of an $8 increase so you should praise and thank me for not taking $16 from you this year.”

GM. Great song choice one of my favorite Marshall Tucker songs. I need to learn to play that on the Gee-Tar. You belong in the south Brad…you are missing the year round exceptional life of a southern man, fishing, ocean, mountains, great food, music, SEC football, polite culture, and hot cousins that put out.
