Minnesota Vikings News:

Do you enjoy re-living all of those gut-wrenching moments we Vikings fans have endured over the years? The History of the Minnesota Vikings is set to debut on YouTube on August 1st, according to SI.com.

ESPN ponders the end of the era of the star running back, and how the NFL got here.

Vikings.com brings you their 2023 training camp preview: receivers.

Pats DB Adrian Phillips says that they’ll face a ‘crazy lineup’ of QBs in the AFC East, per NFL.com. Yeah, we all know that Rodgers is pretty nutty.

While he may be retired from the NFL, Phillip Rivers has NOT retired from populating the earth. Rivers and his wife are expecting thier 10th child, according to Bleacher Report. Wow, one more and he’d have enough kids to field an entire offense……or an entire defense.

CBS Sports puts the NFC teams into tiers, and they did the same for the AFC teams.

Playing golf at 6:30 Sunday morning. Trying to beat the heat. Supposed to be over 100 in the afternoon. Haven’t swung a club in a few weeks. Playing as a single, so ni idea who I’m going to be hooked up with.

Spoiler Alert: if you’re CST they’ll tee off before you get up because they can’t play in the dark later in the day to accommodate you. That said, the actual broadcast will probably work around your schedule. Just don’t go to any sports apps if you want to see it “live”.

You know what freaks me out? I thought to myself how many time zones does Europe have…open another window, start typing in the gogle search bar is europe…and at that point the top item was “is europe all one time zone”. AI is taking over man.

BTW there are three time zones, the one I care about most is central which is 8 hours ahead of me in the MT time zone but the British is in the west. Some countries I doubt I ever visit are in the eastern European time zone.

Lifer wanted golf club fitting feedback. Here is the TL:DR
Went to Golf Galaxy today for an Iron fitting. Told the guy how I golf (95-105 is a normal score) and that I am looking for game improvement irons. I am currently playing Tommy Armor 745s from 1997.
He had me hit about 15 golf balls with my current 7 iron, and tape stuff on it to see where I strike the ball, then went to laugh at me and select a different club. My current clubs have 1″ extensions. He came back with a 1/2″ extension, steel shaft, Calloway Rogue OS. I hit that several times, and then he switched out for graphite. I loved the feel of the graphite. He changed the lie to -2. I hit 20 more shots with that configuration.

My old 7 Iron went 135 (average)
Calloway Rogue OS went 155(average)

Next was the Taylor Made stealth. Same setup. Hit 10 with that, went back to the rogue.
Honestly, I could not tell a difference in feel, even with slight mishits.
Distance was a few yards better with the stealth. (160 average)

Ping G430 was next.
Again, hit about 15 shots with that, and here is where I had something fun happen.
Most of the shots were 155-165.. Then I hit one where it felt completely effortless, and the damned thing read 187 yards total. Holy fuck. Hit 5 more and they were all back to earth and 160ish.
Went back to the Calloway. Felt the same, 155+ is normal with that 7 iron for me.

It seems I can get 5-10 yards more per shot with the current latest clubs vs the 2 year old calloway. The old calloway are still miles ahead of where my really old tommy armors are

All three new clubs are a huge upgrade over my current set. The Pings are the most expensive at 172 per club
The Stealths were 159 per club
The Calloways were 126 per club.

Going with the Calloways. Still doing a PXG fitting since that is only $12.50.

Normal male trait. Put a driver in a man’s hands and he’s gonna go full testosterone on it. I am hitting my PXG’s much farther than my old 2001 Nicklaus set. Still, I hit golf shots, not just whack a ball as hard and as far as I can. That feeling you described of hitting a ball in the center of the clubface is what I’m after.

Good luck with new clubs. Getting the length and lie correct is really important. After that, if you’re hitting the ball in the center club face and the strike feels good, go with whichever you like.
Did they have any one year old pings. If they do they are usually discounted pretty good.

Yes, they have the G425s and those would have been less expensive. However they cannot currently customize those. Inventory or some such bullshit. Left hand only for customizing. I saw the same thing on their website.
Strange that the Calloway and Cobras were the only previous models that they could customize for game improvement irons.

A thought if you haven’t actually made the purchase yet. Many places have sample clubs that you can take to the range and hit off actual turf.
Sometime clubs hit differently off the turf compared to the simulator.
Just 2 cents from a guy who’s got half a garage full of iron sets and made a great may mistakes.
again, good luck.

Yeah so seems he ran you through the correct process for the fitting which is good.

The added distance is really from how much stronger the irons are lofted now compared to where your old 7 iron now is, 745-s (which if you didn’t know are Tommy Armour knockoffs) that 7 is lofted at 35 degrees, the Rouges you hit the 7 iron is lofted at 27.5 degrees. So a lot of the added distance is from that but the club quality is so much better. The Stealths or the Pings both great and the Ping hit was just a pure center hit which is why it felt effortless and went farther. All will do that if you hit in the center. For sure go graphite shaft no question. I think any would be a great fit. Just make sure with the lie adjustment of -2, every manufactures standard lie is different, Pings standard lie on the 7 iron (black dot) is 62 degrees, Callaway’s 7 irons standard lies are 62.5, Taylor Mades 7 iron standard lie is 63 degrees. So that degree change of -2 two on rouge is different than -2 on the Ping or Taylormade if that makes sense. Sounds like on the Callaway if he went -2 degrees in lie and that was right (you were striking the bottom of the club on the lie tape in the middle of the tape) then your 7 iron lie for any club maker is 60.5 degrees lie on 7 iron, so that will determine the total lie adjust for the entire set. Say you went with the pings, you would go -1.5 degrees on the set, or the Stealths you would go -2.5 degrees in lie adjustment.

Thank you for the feedback. Lots of math involved….

If money were no object, I still liked all three (Stealth, G430, Rogue) the same. To me they all felt great compared to my old clubs. And the old clubs were a Sears purchase, so I am not shocked about the knockoff.

Off center hits feel much better with the newer clubs. Only real difference was not feel, but the slight distance difference. it would take playing outside and a round or two with each to really get a feel.

I am pretty sure I will like the new clubs. I will also get a fitting whenever I need to make a purchase(Hybrid, driver, etc) in the future.

Yeah the new irons in the center are a half of a ball left and right center bigger sweet spot, especially the Stealths. I like the Ping 430’s also seems you hit the the best. My favorite graphite shaft is the red & black Ventus that comes with the Stealths but all brands have good ones.

While KAM has been cutting veteran players with big contracts to increase cap space this year, dead money next year remains an issue:

2024 Dead Money

Cook – $3,101,273
Cousins – $28,500,000
Hunter – $11,240,000
Davenport – $6,800,000

If you go to over the cap and look at team dead cap space for 2024, the Vikings have like $4,000,000. That’s it.

It won’t be $4,000,000. My point is that that number is always changing depending on contract’s etc….

That number is weird. Cousins dead cap hit is $28.5M alone. Maybe it’s just showing the amounts for players who have already departed the team (like Cook, Thielen, etc). These are folks that aren’t scheduled to be on the team next year (contracts expire).

JR, one way teams get under the cap each year is restructuring existing players contracts. They redo the contracts and spread the remaining amount across additional years (called void years) among other things. Basically buying a player on credit. Once the contract expires though, all those future payments come due. That’s dead cap (paying for a player after they’re gone).

I don’t really understand the extremists takes from either side of it. Climate change exists, has since the beginning of time naturally but human activities do have influence on the changes. We should take steps to gradually decrease our dependence on non-renewable resources but we should not be attempting to be completely dependent on wind and solar. I mean, its not the crisis the yokels try to make it out to be but we shouldn’t just sit with our thumbs up our asses doing nothing either.

The problem is, we don’t have ANY truthful answers.
The Earth is millions to billions of years old.
Nobody was here recording data 100,000 years ago to know diddly squat about climate change.

It is obvious that if you dump shit in a small body of water the water is contaminated. Let’s do things we know for a fact can help.

On a large scale I have serious doubts that man can do anything. We couldn’t kill the Earth if we set out on a plan to do it.

But we can certainly do enough damage over time to make it unsustainable for human life.

DE Viking
Reply to  benjammin
14 July 2023 4:09 pm

Maybe.
We just don’t truthfully know that answer.

If the Earth is a 1,000 page book and we read half a page of that book, can you conclude you know what the book is about?

That’s what climate scientists are doing.
1 billion years of possible data, and scientists are using 1,500 years to make assumptions.

And those scientists get paid to study it.
Do you think a scientist wants to conclude there is no human effect on the climate and thus ending their paycheck?

If you look close enough, there´s actually no proof for “man-made climate change”. It´s all based on computer models that are fed with sketchy data to produce the desired outcome.

The IPCC is a lobbying organization, tasked with selling the (fake) drama to the great unwashed. They are literally taxing the air we breathe with “carbon tax”. It´s another gigantic scam, nothing more.

’Congratulations man, you’re the American League batting champion….’

Thats what I told my buddy, who was sitting in wheelchair, wearing torn sweatpants and a t-shirt with various stains on it. His face was flushed and puffy, eyes bloodshot. Tongue thick and heavy. His head nodded from side to side and he finally passed out as the nurse and the officer slowly pushed him past the security door and into the detox unit of the drunk tank.

This was hours after we found him. Holed up in a hotel room in Kansas City – he’d sold off most everything he owned and burned the cash on OxyContin and Xanax, crushing them with a CD case and snorting them off a dusty dresser. He’d made several Craigslist profiles – straight up asking for heroin. He was a shade over 6 feet tall and maybe 115 lbs, his face bruised and cut from a recent rough attempt to buy drugs – all he got was robbed and beat up.

The room was littered with 1/2 pint Svedka bottle’s everywhere. We stopped counting when we hit 50. We got him dressed and outside. He knew where we were going and started to get combative. He kicked and clawed. He swung at me, the punch starting from the ground as he threw his whole frame into it, intent on taking my head off. He missed, his momentum carrying him forward as I grabbed his shoulder and drove my fist into his gut – I got the desired effect as he barfed all over the place. Then I tossed him in the backseat of my Durango, kicked on the child safety locks and headed north.

He screamed and cried on the ride. He threatened us. Our families. He begged us to get home one more drink, one more pill. He begged us to kill him.

Then he got busy.

He dried out, counting the minutes and hours. Then the days and months. He attended meetings, eventuality running several of them. Lived in a sober facility for a year. Enrolled in school and got a bachelor’s degree, got a job as a counselor. After a few years in Northeast Nebraska he moved to Nashville. He’s got a wonderful new girlfriend and is about to become a first-time father at 45. He’ll walk in December with a Master’s in counseling from Lipscomb University.

And today he’s 12 years sober…..

Skol!

Appears to me that they focused on three “very different” QB’s. One whose team won the Super Bowl, one whose team went 13-4 and had some of the best games of the year if not the decade, and one whose team fizzled out. Contrasts in different levels of success.

Good take….I was wondering why in the hell are they featuring Mariota, he’s bounced around, lost the first two games for Atlanta last year just terrible. Nice guy but he is just not cutting the mustard.

I notice DE didn’t say squat about Cousins ep 2. Pretty good was the best we could get. That’s a start. Here comes the vanilla “I never said Kirk was bad” response.

Kirk was amazing those two games Wash/Buffalo, got the hell beat out of him and gutted it out really hurt, inspired his team to fight got two wins and inspired his team to fight till the end and break records for never giving up. It was one of the most amazing season I’ve watched as a vikings fan. His prep for being ready and battling what it takes to be a pro QB in this league is second level. Yeah…let’s let that walk out the door and get a rookie. That’s better. 🫤

Buffalo had never lost a game since what 1970 or something when up multiple scores? Keenum walks out after the Wash game and is in aw of Kirk saying man you are one tough hombre. That’s a compliment from a very tough guy in his own right. Kirk is an Amazing QB.

Just be aware that the commentary on the hits will go like this:

“Yeah, when you have a slow immobile QB, he’s gonna get hit a lot. I guarantee most of those hits are because he holds the ball too long.”

Probably. But when you run an offense where you require the QB to win from the pocket, and you play behind the two shittiest pass blocking guards in the league (center is not too good either), your QB better be one tough son of gun.
And I don’t give a crap what the coach potato bootstrapper QB’s say.

I think if you watch the games, you’ll see more often than not, Cousins is sacked pretty much immediately. The rush up the middle is the recurring theme here. When there’s a play action pass, and the QB carries out the fake, then turns around and gets blasted by the rush, it has nothing to do with being slow or immobile. People who push this narrative are just being hyper critical of Cousins, not really paying attention to what’s going on.

My next comment to you response was going to be now do QB snap time to pressure rates and you’ll see the Vikings OL again is near the bottom if not the worst in the league for QB getting hit immediately after the ball is snapped.

I notice DE didn’t say squat about Cousins ep 2. Pretty good was the best we could get. That’s a start. Here comes the vanilla “I never said Kirk was bad” response.

Once again you lie and trash me.
I have ALWAYS said Kirk is a good guy and a good QB.

This QB show shouldn’t change anybody’s mind about abilities, if you are smart and know what this show is. It’s entertainment. It was interesting. ALL NFL QB’s go through this. Not just Kirk. It doesn’t mean that Kirk is the greatest QB because a camera followed him around and showed selective items for a story.

“shouldn’t change anybody’s mind” – really and I mean really? 99% of fans have absolutely no idea what it’s like to stand in the pocket, deliver a pass and then get your ass knocked off, Totally clueless.
And, I haven’t watched the show, but I’d also guess about the same number have no idea of the mental aspects of playing the position.

That’s where I disagree.
I would say MOST fans, even though haven’t played the game, know what a QB goes through.

You assume that many here just have no idea what an NFL QB goes through on a play by play basis, and I think that assumption is wrong. Fans aren’t stupid.

Casual fans. Sure.

Well, to me, it’s a little like the chicken and the pig – who’s most committed to the breakfast.
Now. I have been in a defenseless position after throwing a pass, and had a 270 pound guy drive me into the ground. So kinda know, but not exactly sure what a 320 pounder doing it might be like. Kinda, but 15 – 20 times a game? Don’t think they really do.
As an example. Watch on TV with a camera behind the plate and seeing a 95 mph fastball. Now if one cold actually go stand in the box and see a 95 mph fastball – night and day. Even the shots you see in this series are nothing compared o what it’s life actually down on the turf.

I disagree, who cares if you know “what it’s like to stand in the pocket, deliver a pass and then get your ass knocked off”. My wife never played a down of football, has barely even watches it, but easily identified that Ponder sucked, and that Mahomes is elite.

Bit of an unfair comparison – my grandma who has ever watched a game could pick between the greatest on the planet and a scrub.
Have your wife go watch the 2021 Rams/49er game that October.
then ask her – Who’s better Stafford or Jimmy G?

My wife is typically anything but casual but when it comes to sports she could not care less. She watches a few games a year including the SB. Its funny we were watching a game a couple years ago and Breeland got burned for a deep TD and she says, “I though the defense was supposed to at least be close to receivers, that guy must suck”, lol he sure did.

Agreed.
I think JR went to far claiming that nobody knows what an NFL QB goes through. Die hard fans know. Even some casual fans. Which was my point.

We’ve watched NFL football for years and decades. Most know that the QB gets crushed and is a tough position to play.

Peyton Manning said it the opening of the series. It’s not like this series is breaking some earth shattering truths that the Kirk Crusaders claim.

Maybe I went too far maybe not. I was implying many did not.
I’ve watched a lot of games – going back farther than most here.
Not to long ago, got to go to a Ravens game and stand on the sideline (won raffle tickets).
The amount of contact and hitting blew my mind, and I thought I “really” knew before.

But most fans already know that playing in the NFL is physically brutal.

No one is saying vested fans like us are “stupid”.

Formulating an opinion of a QB, then watching him overcome those criticisms on the field and then sticking to your mantra that he can’t get it done is what is being discussed here. Now adding in the level of work and commitment he puts in that none of us knew because the damn show just came out you didn’t know that nor did the vested fan. It lends more credibility that Kirk can absolutely get it done and is a top QB in this league in all aspect. Every single starting, back up and practice squad QB in this league knows Kirk is top shelf in the league at the position and with the right team can get it done.

Yeah once a guy walks the team is usually done with them so I agree. Also is it just me or is Cook primed for an injury and missing significant time? Nothing points to that outcome but just feels like that’s his next chapter. I wouldn’t sign him for a penny over $6 or $7 if I was a gm for another team. Too much risk and cheaper options.
