Good Monday Morning. Vikings game week, sorta kinda, Preseason gm 1 with the Seattle Seachickens on Thursday. Few moves by the Vikings over the weekend losing a few bubble guys adding a 1st rd WR who’s been a bust. Likely not anything that will change the fortunes of this team this season. Sounds like Flores defense is beginning to take shape and be as his reputation proceeds, a hard to know where the pressure is coming from aggressive unit. Good.

I’ve been too busy to read today’s thread so I can’t comment on that. I will comment that a few weeks ago you were getting bent out of shape about some fairly innocuous stuff.
Does this mean there will be some actual posting of football stuff by the moderators? I know Brad said something quite awhile ago about not being able to compete with other sites with the football articles, so that was abandoned. Will I have to go to some other site to read the game summary and then come back here to comment?
Maybe I should be quite now since I’m feeling a bit prickly.

I’d say politics are biggest issue. Given world we live in it’s understandable. It often promotes insulting and name calling however. I do my best to stay out. It can promote commenting and discourage it. I guess lots of fine lines to look at, i like the site, good contributors.

It has been very enjoyable and educational for me.
If I miss the discourse too much I may have to reach out to Lifer and Edge for contact information so I can understand the leftist and centrist point of view.
I do understand the need to moderate the discussion more tightly…there is a core group of us who have thick skin and enjoy the back and forth…but sadly in today’s society there are many snowflakes who will not partake in a website that is a little edgy.
Regardless, I am not going anywhere because I am a Vikings fan and that is the main purpose of this site.

Some teams (like the Ravens) go into every pre-season game intending to win. Sure they play the guys that they know aren’t going to make the team, but Harbaugh wants to win. Other teams go through the paces, but it’s a glorified exhibition game to them.
Last year the Vikings didn’t win any preseason games, but won 13 regular season games. Clearly KOC was more concerned about getting his starters injured in a meaningless game than he was in winning those games. I expect more of the same this year.

You know, just looking at the picture above, Flores doesn’t look like the kind of guy that suffers fools easily. Couple of defense efforts like last year, and I expect the dfensive film sessions will get pretty entertaining.
I have heard 1st Sargents/Drill Sgts/Platoon Sgts chewing groups out quite intensely/colorfully and notice that the entire group is smiling.

I gotta share a lengthy anecdote from my past based on the stick beating by the store keeper…cone of silence on this one cuz it ends badly.
It was common back in the heyday of my first year in college for each floor in dorms to host a party with plentiful adult beverages for sale, DJ, decorations, theme, etc in order to raise funds for a formal dinner and dancing, other social activities like skydiving, etc. I was put in charge from 11 until 1 of preventing anyone leaving the floor via the elevators with an open container as that violated the university liquor license or some such crap. I had a beer or two earlier in the evening but since I had this weighty responsibility among others like hauling trash and refilling the coolers I was truthfully quite sober at 11 pm.
Two obnoxious guys came on the floor and were shoving people around, trying to steal beer from the beer table, etc and then they left via a stairwell exit with open containers. The guy responsible for those exits told me to watch for them. They appeared later back through the stairwell exit and did some similar hijinks, came to the elevator and I told them they couldn’t use the elevator until they finished their (legally purchased) beer. Argument ensued and they were getting pushy and unfortunately one of the girls on my dorm floor intervened and started trying to womansplain how they needed to be more gentlemanly. Somehow she got shoved onto the open elevator and all hell broke loose. I remember one of them trying to grab me from behind while I was trading swings with the other, getting tripped and falling down where they got a couple of kicks in, jumping up and getting a sweet uppercut on the guy in front of me, and then the guy behind me sprayed me full in the eyes with what I think was antiperspirant in a little bottle. All this time the girl is screaming at them to get off me, etc…
Elevator doors open at the lobby and we spill out, in the confusion both of the guys got grabbed by a group of RA’s/floor monitors as the gal explained what was going on, one of the RA’s told me to get the hell out of there and the old adrenaline sent me flying up the stairs. I stopped in the stairwell in the floor above mine and couldn’t help but burst into tears, felt like a dummy but it is what it is. My floor’s RA found me and she was pissed, wanted me to call the cops but I wanted to wait and see what punishment the university meted out. Next morning campus police told me to call the city police, they came by and took notes, observed my bruises and said the one guy I had got with a nice punch had a massive shiner. Said since it was a he said she said and alcohol involved the DA likely wouldn’t pursue the case. University ended up barring these two (non university) guys for life from being on campus.
Story would end there but of course I shared this story with my parents. Lo and behold the guy that got the black eye ends up enlisting in the military. He was assigned to CFB Wainwright as part of basic, which happened to be where I was from and happened to be the base my dad retired at. Well he said something to someone and let’s just say this guy was having a miserable time at basic, kinda think of Richard Gere and Lew Gossett Jr in Officer and a Gentleman, I WANT YOUR DOR!
The unfortunate ending to this anecdote is the military recruit died in a MVA on his way to Edmonton on a 48 hour pass, with alcohol and no seatbelt being a factor in the unwitnessed rollover.
Sounds like Karma to me.

Yeah it came out of nowhere and interestingly is what incensed the judicial board or whatever it was called that the university held when reviewing the incident. They admitted to being blotto drunk and possibly unintentionally using some other mild altering substance.

Whew boy this Alabama boat dock fight is an all timer….it has it all. Here’s what started it and surprisingly boat docks are a flash point for confrontations. The more you dig in to what happen it’s wild. Entire white family had the shit beat out of them, including the women, and arrested and hauled off to jail. There was and the security guy works there so he has the right to ask or move boats with just a line tied on to a place to make room for the ferry’s that works there daily. Anyway it all got out of hand, then the locals show up and it really got out of hand. I have absolutely seen things go sideways at boat launches. One thing you never want to do is take matters in your own hands and decide to move someone’s vehicle or boat.
Last year I was out on the river in friendly ol’ Dawson County and had two gentlemen screaming at us from their spot on the riverbank because we throttled down and were fishing walleye with trolling sets on the opposite bank from them. “We’re gonna f you up, my buddy is getting his gun, etc”. Really surprised me.
I was salmon fishing with my brother in Sturgeon bay WI. The salmon run back to Strawberry creek around early October where they hatch every year.
You are fishing a shipping canal, and folks there don’t fuck around if you get out of line.
Theres’ a lot of boats, and everyone kinda fishes the same route in a big, lazy circle. Just understood that you don’t use planar boards, and if I guy is fighting a fish, you give him room.
One guy is running planar boards, and he was informed not to do it. Then he got right up another boats ass when he had a fish.
I watched a another guy drive over his lines, then he gunned it in reverse to spool out all his line.
They went onshore to fight, and about half the boats in the canal went to shore to help in the ass kicking.

The democrats do not do this when they have the house or senate, and the republicans have the presidency.
There is only one party that uses the debt ceiling as a weapon to get what they want. Credit agencies are not amused by this.
If the democrats start refusing to pay the bills unless they get what they wanted, then I will agree to the both parties line.
But right now only one party threatens to default on the debt unless they get their way, and that’s the republicans.
That shit has consequences. If they are going to use the debt ceiling as a weapon, then at least own up to the consequences of those choices.
