I find myself with this conundrum often, like last Saturday.
But mant times a new thread doesn’t come to pass.
Is there more cap relief if the Hitman retires vs is cut?
Wondering if they are trying to talk him into retirement or if he just wants to savor his final weeks as a Viking?
The Hitman is entering the four void years on his contract (2026-2029). Each of the first three void years is a $3M cap hit. The fourth year is $1.6M. I think if he’s cut though, his cap hit ends up being $4.3M this year, and $9M next year. I think it’s the same if he retires because he’s in his void years, but I don’t really know.
If Smith is a post June 1 cut, the Vikings gain $1.3 million in cap savings.
There is a story out there that Smith does NOT have any void years because his contract is voided in 2026.
Bottom line, I don’t think there is much on Smith’s contract that will significantly help with 2026 cap space.
Would rather see him retire as a Viking then get cut.
But if he is that inexpensive then he could stay as a player/coach.
He does have larger cap hits in 2027 and beyond, but I don’t think they are void years, so it would only count if he were still on the roster in the future.
Same as you.
He has been the definition of being a Viking and taking less money and reworking his contracts to fit the team.
We have been begging for Andy Dalton? Who Knew??
Although as a short term Vet Backup, if that is the way we choose to go, he is not the worst option I guess.

And Geno Smith is even more ‘Ideal-er’.??

DEI column
Geno has a pro arm, and a ton of experience. He is a pretty good QB IMO. Some think his decision making is suspect, but I think overall he is a solid guy. I think he could run the KOC scheme pretty well.
He sucks and is old, pass.
Makes sense. Hargrove was a complete waste of money, and Jones is a great guy, but old.
Yep. I concur
Hargrave was not particularly productive and old
Jones was great two years ago, but injured and far less productive last year
Redmond replaces Hargrave, Mason already essentially replaced Jones
now the question is how the get more cap space, they’ll cut Kelley and do some restructures, maybe extend O’Neill but I’d guess they cut another player or two
Allen is gone as well.
Would only need 1 or 2 additional moves to officially be under the cap.
No way Hock is gonna be around at his current contract.
Yeah. I think he restructures.
I think KOC wants him.
But if he doesnt restructure he should be cut imo.
Rumors are we’re keeping him for 2026.
No reports of a restructure or anything.

Dumb if true.
Unless Kirko signs.
Hock was Kirkos auto check down.
Short on 4th & 8.
Aaron Jones is a warrior and a real pro….sad to see him go.
When he wasn’t hurt, he was solid for sure.
He was on the injury report almost every week, or got hurt in the game and didn’t finish. With his cap hit being $8 million, he became expendable.
I do not care for him at all.
I know this will shock people here, but I would rather have Kirko for 1-2 years vs Murray for a day.
I would as well, except for Kirkos money demands.
yeah, that is why I feel that is a safe statement.
Kirko is much better than Murray, but his agent will not let him play for market value. Has to gouge again.
Cousins has always played at less than market value though, except maybe the Falcons offer. Probably market value there. Every other contract he signed was less than market value, just with a lot of guaranteed money. Remember, the Jets offered him more money than the Vikings did. Cousins made an under market value offer to KAM that was rejected in 2023.
Kirko will likely be the 3rd highest paid NFL player of all time after he signs a 2026 contract.
Under market value my ass.
You have no credibility when discussing Kirko.
But look at all the trophies and mvp awards that money bought…
And playoff victories
I stated reality… he played on under market value contracts. That’s the truth. You have no credibility claiming a falsehood.
Kirko played for a lot of years during the period when the QB is highly valued and highly paid…..although I don’t believe he has been under paid, I don’t believe he has been overpaid either.
You?
The Washington Post…
Well he didn’t kill as many people as ‘Hitler’ therefore he is better than Trump.
Duh!
Interesting take… wonder if there are people who actually see things that way?
Well ‘Trump is Hitler’ and everything that he does has to be resisted.
Woke/Dims/Libs/Fake News/TDS Sufferers were all on the same side as Iran (AKA Anti Trump) so of course people on ‘their team’ have to be ‘the good guys’.
It is Political Science so they must ‘Follow the Science’.
More like political theater than science though.
Their version of the narrative not mine.
Yes… their version has always been a lie too.
Katherine Graham rols in her grave every time the Post puts out some garbage like the article.
Domino’s starting to fall…
There is almost half of their ‘big cap problem’ taken care of.
Can’t be. We’ve been told it’s dire for the Vikings
Do you know the last time Congress formally declared War?
June 1942 (WWII).
Wars since 1942:
Korea
Vietnam
Gulf War
Iraq
Afghanistan
Syria
ISIS
War on Terror
The US President can absolutely carry out military action without congressional approval.
Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
I just love how the dumbs are talking about all the wars Trump has started like our war with Venezuela. They had no problem with Obama bombing more than any other president, but God forbid you arrest one committee dictator and totally wipe out an entire regime who has changed death to America for almost 50 years.
Ummm there was no war with Venezuela. It was an arrest of an indicted drug lord.
That was kinda my point.
OK
We have a great mant people in this country that live in la la land.
Our Congress can’t figure out a way to fund TSA and the Coast Guard, so we should let them be the deciders of going to war.
I’d sooner trust a bunch of six graders.
I agree JR. The people in Congress are not competent. They are simply politicians who are geared to win elections, not run anything.
I am still trying to comprehend that Fetterman is one of the most sane senators in congress right now. Blows my mind. If the dems wasn’t to win the Whitehouse, they should just run him. I think he actually win. Can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but if the Republicans put up another stupid choice like Romney I think even I’d vote for Fetterman.
I’m hoping that the Trump Presidency sets an example for the American people for generations to come. We elected a man with immense qualifications for building prosperity, and making deals. A man who ran a business empire. A man with common sense, and total devotion to the United States of America. A man unafraid to take on the enemies of this Nation. A man unafraid to change the status quo. A man who wields National power appropriately and understands the concept of peace through strength.
‘But..but..but he is ‘Literally Hitler’.
TDS Sufferers
It is my hope that those lies will fall on the deaf ears of the enlightened citizens who believe their eyes and sensibilities. I see this happening inch by inch in the country today. More and more people are informed, and understand that the left trades in lies. To date, literally nothing the left has ever proclaimed about Trump has been true or come to pass.
Dancing in Iranian streets, and women not wearing the required head gear.
Media and lefties will have a meltdown and claim how evil Trump and Israel are.
Apparently, Iran was planning an imminent attack on US assets in the region, so Trump took action to prevent it.
Ayatollah Khomeini is now eligible to vote as a registered Democrat in the upcoming midterms.
Muslim countries that support today’s U.S strike on Iran: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, UAE, Bahrain
Muslim countries that DO NOT support today’s U.S. strike on Iran: France, United Kingdom
UK and France, but for us they would be speaking German.
True, but man, the Muslim invasion that has occurred in those countries is a nightmare. They have so many Muslim elected officials now, who are fundamentally changing the society. They have active Sharia law, etc. Muslims tearing down British flags and raising their own. Scary times.
What about the Muslim invasion here!
Well honestly she never stopped being Somali, she just
workssteals in the USA.A criminal for sure, but so are a lot of other folks in Congress.
Why you got to bring up Pelosi??
At least she is ‘home grown’ if that makes it better.
First day in hell. No virgins.
I sort of doubt this. I think McCarthy is going to be QB1 this year, with Wentz as his backup. I think the whole cap situation creates a scenario where getting the finances in order this year, giving McCarthy another opportunity to prove himself, and then moving on next year if need be is how it will play out.
My try at logic after a couple of cold ones.
You played some quarterback, and have been rather critical off JJ and his short comings. Also believe you have voiced serious concern about him making it.
I tend to believe KOC has even more experience than you and don’t you think he can see the things you see?
You have doubts, bet he has even more.
So yes, his 59% on target rate (NFL average is 74.5%) and 24.1% bad throw rate (worst in the league) give me great pause. Can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear as they say. That said, I know there are passing concepts that could improve him statistically fairly quickly. That would require a big shift in KOC’s scheme though. So, that’s the choice. Simplify the scheme to create quick throws that travel 7-10 yards on average, use the TE a lot more, and eliminate the throws McCarthy is simply weak on. That deep crosser we used to watch Cousins deliver routinely is a ball McCarthy struggles to connect on, and in fact, is one of the hardest throws for any QB. It’s one of KOC’s favorite concepts though.
Then of course learning to see the defensive shifts pre-snap that he has to adjust his protections for, and understanding who the Mike is, where the safeties are, etc all have to be better. That’s film study and skull sessions with McCown.
Only McCown and KOC know what they have in McCarthy completely. In other words the throws he can make that would get that on-target rate up to 75%. I think he can do better than he has, with that kind of adjustment. I think this is how KOC will proceed this year.
Again a little JR logic after a few, wouldn’t it be easier to just get another QB rather than change the entire offense and everything about it to “fit” the QB.
And if we’re going to turn into the ding and dunk, why do we need the likes of Jefferson and Addison.
Great, Zimball two.
And throw on all of this a history of injuries – like buying tickets on the Titantic.
Keep in mind that we heard somewhat ad nauseum last year that McCarthy has the “it” factor. This is that rare, charismatic aura some players exude. Some folks are just enamored with him. They’re pulling for him. So maybe the coaches try a little harder to give him a chance.
“IT” doesn’t put the ball in Jefferson’s hands.
You and I agree on that. You think Parcels would handle a player based on his “charisma”? How about Gibbs? Belichick? Shula? Andy Reid? No, no, and no. The “entertainment” part of the Sports Entertainment continuum has completely overtaken the “Sports” part though. It’s about personality and merchandise sales now.
I am ‘pulling for him’ because he is a Viking.
When he stops being one I will stop.
I hope he succeeds, he might, but I have no idea if he will or not at this point. The injuries are most concerning if they are real and not just ‘soft benching’.
I think a vet is coming.
And Cousins is KOCs first choice.
How much Kirko demands is the deciding factor.
A brunette goes into a doctor’s office and says her body hurts wherever she touches it.
“Impossible,” says the doctor. “Show me.”
She presses her finger on her elbow and screams in agony. She pushes her knee and screams. She presses her ankle and screams again. It continues everywhere she touches.
The doctor says, “You’re not really a brunette, are you?”
She replies, “No, I dyed my hair. I’m naturally blonde.”
“I thought so,” he says. “Your finger is broken.”
Laughing…
In case this is lost on the masses… in the Islamic Calendar, today is the 11th day of the 9th month.
9/11
It’s payback time for all of the Islamic terrorists.
President Trump carried out strikes on Iran on 9/11 during Ramadan.
Badass
Love this
Happy Ramalamadingdong to Islam.. Hehe.
Next step is to arrest people in Mosques that are spewing “anti-America” and “kill the infidel” rhetoric.
Even use the left’s rules about hate speech if you like.
Round them up, kick them out, demolish all mosques.
There are peaceful Muslims.
Islam is not a religion of peace, it is a religion of conquest.
Always has been.
Always will be.
You are correct Surly. Islam is a religion of conquest, and taking slaves, raping women and children, and murdering infidels are all authorized in the Quran.
Start with the brother kissing Minnesota Somali. Send her home.
Agree.
Every time I hear her shrill squeaky voice, I want someone to send her home to Somalia.
Gotta love this classic.
Chase Utley’s first MLB hit was a grand slam. The front office pranked him after the game:
Kruk: “You honestly think that Major League Baseball would make me a member of the rules committee?”
Looks like he’s ready to eat someone’s children
I’m off to a funeral. Funerals are a part of life, but I don’t like it when the funeral is for a person that I consider young. She was only 52. I did not know her well, but I knew her for a long time as she was a faithful member of the church I attend.
Hopefully everyone else has a much better day.
Yeah, funerals suck, no matter how well you knew the person.
There was laughter, there were tears, there was food afterwards. It is interesting how the culture is different across the US about the food part. I was raised in MN and WI and 99% of the funerals I have gone to have had food for everyone afterwards. When I was a kid and went to my grandmother’s funeral in Texas, it was only the family that had a meal together afterwards. The last 2 funerals I went to didn’t have food for anyone. They were both from the same family, so I don’t know if their culture was different, or if they were just both tight with the money.
I always kinda feel bad, but I look forward to the food afterwards, where I grew up there is no catering, just people from the church bringing different casseroles (aka hot dishes for you Minnesotans), dead animal meat, and desserts. Pretty much everyone goes back to the church after internment to eat together, there is always way more than needed, after my dad’s funeral we ate leftovers for days and froze entire pans of casseroles, smoked ribs, and lasagna that my family ate for the next couple of weeks. I can’t imagine going to one with no food, that just doesn’t seem right.
Kirk Cousins back to the Vikings for one final season where he will teach JJ the most important part of being a QB… creating a spreadsheet that breaks down his day into 15 minute increments… well that and how to spend Tuesdays off. After these paramount lessons JJ will surely become an elite QB.
What about the financial education? Maybe some grilling lessons?
So 9-8, one and done, and big bucks to the QB for another decade?

Bomb, bomb, bomb,
Bomb, bomb Iran.
Sounds like they might have taken our Khamenei. If so, good riddance.
Also FTP.
In the immortal words of Curtis LeMay – “bomb them back into the stone ages.”
Sounds like the ayetollah is gone, along with his son and the next 10 successors. Talk about efficiency.
