Alright, we’ve added a couple of writers to the mix, and I’ll also have more time this weekend, so you can expect the content on the website to continue to increase. Eric Scott has written a couple pieces for the site, is a great contributor, and I’m thankful to have him here. Rob, who was my compadre at the open thread at our previous stop, will also be contributing, as will GA Skol, and I am elated to have them both on board as well. Many many thanks to all of you members, as you’ve all made the kickoff of this site a resounding success. We’ll strive for constant improvement, and please continue to let me know any changes you’d like to see.
What’s everyone have planned for the weekend? I think I’m going to smoke a prime rib on Saturday. I just have to find some extra extra large rolling papers before then.

Enjoy….I’m not having a great day although I don’t have a GD thing to complain about. Went to the course at 6:50 today to try out some new (used) Mizuno blades I bought. Also wanted to try out my new Tag golf watch. Well couldn’t figure out how to get it connected to my phone because I’m a dumbass. Thought I had it prepped and ready but forgot the Bluetooth has to connect via the google OS app THEN you open the Tag golf app on your phone and the watch displays the course, yardage etc…fuck. Anyway played 9 drove the ball great, new irons were ok vs my titleist t100s irons. Maybe better but my chipping which is usually good was off and I shot a 51. Sucks.
So come home early to cut grass, jump on the mower get 3 laps around the house, drive belt breaks. Fuck. So order a belt and will sit here and watch the yard turn in to a jungle. Irritating.
Top Gun was an excellent movie. Went last night with the Mrs. 3 out of 4 stars.
I’m goring to do my part to stop climate change and not mow my grass. I will enlist an army of chickens and goats and children to make sure it doesn’t get too long all while saving the planet.
The gas and excrement those animals produce will counter any offset of greenhouse gases. You’ll need to follow these three steps immediately.
1. Build a excrement sequestration unit that processes the chicken and goat shit to biofuel.

The heat kicked up this week
It has been a rotten couple of months for me, the guy I worked with ended up having throat cancer, went to see him on May 1 and he passed the next night. He was 72, a good man originally from northern Mn.
My condolences. Seems the older we get the more friends we lose
Time/health caught up to him, he wasn’t feeling good during the end of Jan. Had a stent put in for his heart and then found out he had cancer, chemo didn’t work for him. I will miss the dude for his knowledge and beer drinking.

I have a recording of the Chargers game from last year on right now and something popped into my mind (no idea what spurred this). Defenses always say they want to make the opposing offense “one dimensional”. Zimmer actually did that FOR the opposing defense by design. He built his game plan and offense around running the ball. Everyone knew it too. So the defense never had to work hard at making the Vikings offense one dimensional. Zimmer did that for them.

And so the defense pinned their ears back and charged through the interior linemen looking for Cook. If they didn’t find him they chased Cousins…

I agree and I sure hope that won’t be the case anymore. The Bears figured this out years ago and have feasted on killing Cook and sacking Cousins. Cook has 130 carries for 482 yards and has scored 2 touchdowns in 7 games against the Bears in his career. .
So the Av’s won on a last second goal and are on to the Western Conference finals. Guess Five will be happy today.
For those who haven’t looked at Discord lately, I read that Kathy is on hospital duty. Her sister had a serious car accident, and among other injuries, had a brain bleed that required removing part of her skull. She was in ICU in critical but stable condition, just moved out of ICU to progressive care. She is going to need support for likely a couple months. Kathy’s other sister has Covid so she can’t help her yet. Once she recovers from that, she can share the hospital/rehab duty. Kathy says she’s functioning on fumes, can’t process signing up on the new site right now. Let’s keep her and her sisters in our thoughts and prayers now.
Thanks for the heads up NVF….I’ll hop over and give her my best. Difficult times for her no doubt.
Our family went though that several several years ago… not a fun experience by any stretch of the imagination.

It’s a beautiful morning! Had my coffee and a ham, egg, and cheese bagel from Bagels N Grinds. Was supposed to play golf this morning but the guys pussed out because it rained all night and the course is probably a mire. Soooo I guess I’ll do some errands and just hang out today.
It’s more fun to golf in Florida after raining and flooding… hitting a second shot offa an alligator’s shnozz tends to piss them off.
Laughing… the golf course at Hurlburt Field in Ft Walton Beach (home of Air Force Special Operations Command) is named “Gator Lakes”. Lots of gators and snakes on the course. Signs everywhere that say “Caution live alligators and snakes”. I always wondered why the word “live” was necessary on those signs… grin.
When I was a kid, my grandparents had saved up for a round-the-world cruise in their retirement. The highlight for an 8-year-old like me was when they brought back a foot-long stuffed crocodile from the Nile.
Man, I bet that was cool. Not too many kids have one of those to show off.
I don’t have it any more. When I was about 10, accidentally put it in a box we gave to the younger neighbor kid whose dad had died.

I have no idea what this new offense will look like. I HOPE our new HC can transition the Zim prevent offense that plods along burning clock into an offense that strikes fear into a defense’s heart.
We haven’t struck fear into any defense since opposing teams were afraid we wouldn’t have enough room on our Love Boat so they could join the party.
In the 2019 Eagles game, Zach Brown shot his mouth off about how he wanted the ball in Cousins hands, as that was the way to beat the Vikings. Cousins claimed he knew nothing of Brown’s comments but he came out slinging it and scored two TD’s in 3 plays with two bombs to Diggs. Diggs also caught a 3rd TD in the game, and Cousins just missed him long on another deep throw that would have been a TD. Cousins was 22-29 for 333 yds and 4 TD’s and we beat the Eagles 38-20. We never saw that offense again. I think it made Zim mad. BTW the Eagles cut Zach Brown the following day.

Actually we didn’t… had the 3rd most. BUT we had the most 3rd and longs in the league by a wide margin. So that’s one reason that number was high. We also had among the most penalties that pushed us back into those 3rd and longs.
Most of us will be eyeballing virtually every good play and bad this year. I might have to put up a chalkboard. Which will include beer totals, too.

I’m hopeful that the new regime can do something that Zim & Co. wasn’t able to. It wasn’t all Zim’s fault, as Wreck saddled him with a lot of things he didn’t ask for. Zim shouldn’t have turned into an ass hole because of it, so that’s on him, and last year could’ve gone much better. That being said, Kirk is taking up a lower % of the total cap now, and is in a range where they SHOULD be able to build a team around him. Still trying to shed some of the mess that Wreck left, but I like the moves they’ve made so far (with the exception of the Lions trade in the draft, that wasn’t good).
The trades with the Lions and the Packers were KAM’s “crazy like a fox” moments and showed his ignorant sense of himself. He thinks he’s smarter than everyone else and these moves were far more clever than any normal person could fathom. I expect those moves will likely blow up in his face like an egg in a microwave.

Just one player in NFL History has a better TD-INT Split than Kirk Cousins thru 120 Starts.
Cousins has started 120 games in his career, tallying 219 passing touchdowns and 87 interceptions in those starts. In NFL history, 74 total quarterbacks have started at least 120 games, and only one has more touchdown passes and fewer interceptions than Cousins through 120 starts — Aaron Rodgers.
Who cares, it’s irrelevant. Did you know the Vikings led the NFL in 3 and outs last season with 53, tied w/Houston? Maybe this season we can get the most by ourselves.
Do you know we led the league in 3rd and long by a mile? We had 80 of them. The next closest team had 64. That’s why our 3 and outs were high for the most part. Also Zim running the ball on 3rd and 1 and getting stuffed was a contributor. You intone this stat somehow is the QB’s fault. The reality is with the 26th ranked O-line in the league, and among the most penalized O-line BTW, the three and outs were not remotely on Cousins shoulders.
It would be fun to get accurate analysis as to causes, like my eyeballs said that the 1st 3 downs were not only a result of bad 3rd-downs, but getting crushed in the 1st 2 downs, often by not getting the ball out and eating it. I’m not just talking about last year, either. Screwing up a 1st-down situation on a drive is never a good thing. I’ll pay more attention this year in critical situations.
Our line had the second most holding penalties (31 in 17 games) in the league last year (Dallas had the most). By Contrast the Packers had the second fewest with 14 in 18 games. Green Bay also had the second fewest false starts in the league while we were 8th.

That is total BS Kodiak. We had two games this year against the Packers. One with Cousins and one without. Note the MASSIVE difference in the outcomes of those two games.
Nothing you state has any credibility, nothing. We had so many close one score game losses. Thats not a team that sucks and will continue to be bad. Thats a team with clear talent that needs to learn how to win close games. The Jags lost 14 games…they suck. That’s the standard not the Vikings.

I had to address the Z key function with the people who created the plugin for the commenting platform, so it may take some time to get that function. Some of the other things I’ve been able to fix myself or the developers were able to. This function is beyond just adjusting settings, so it’ll take some time.

Five and MT posted lab pics a couple days ago. Now I want a choco, too.
I’m a 100% dog guy…had two great vizslas, but Tuck is my first Lab. I’m biased but he is the best. He loves to play with the grandkids, lets them submit him to all forms of foolishness. Never complains hunting or hiking in the cold and wet. Easy to train and while he can be stubborn at times responds to a swat on the ass well (unlike the vizslas who required a gentle touch). If you’re not up to going for a couple mile hike he is content fetching a ball or going for a swim. Just a great all around dog. Labs are at or near the top of most popular breeds for a reason.
This is a pic of him after I pulled approximately 50 porcupine quills. He is pissed at me because it hurt and because I force commanded him to go into a thicket where I thought a rooster was…he hit the porcupine because I gave the command to jump the rooster. His whole muzzle was covered with quills but he just laid there patiently while I pulled as many as I could out, followed by doing the ol’ fish hook thing of pushing the rest through his lips and nose to pull them from the inside.
Twenty minutes later we were back hunting and all was good again.

I bawled like a baby when the vet put my first vizsla to sleep. I was whispering good dog good dog I will see you again you’re so good as he passed. I looked up and the vet was sobbing as well. Felt bad for him as it can’t be easy.
For comparison when my dad passed I didn’t feel much sadness. Maybe I’m weird but it is easier for me when a loved one passes from long standing disease or age, but dogs omg so emotional.
My dogs’ ashes are under trees we planted at the shouse. They are still with us in a way, certainly in our memories. I dread the day that Tuck has to cross the bridge but all I can do is try to make his days as happy as he makes mine. There will be other dogs but each is unique and lives on in my happy memories.

Well, as some of you know, I’m building a forever home in NC near Asheville. Simple house on a lake with views of the mountains. Nothing over the top, 2800 sq ft, leaving the basement just roughed in for me to finish later, no garage (I’ll build a detached garage/shop down the road). Got the estimate back from my builder last night. $630,000. What in the ever living hell. The builder was legitimately embarrassed, but materials costs are out of control. Thanks Biden.

Our operating companies have a bitch of a time bidding jobs, especially big ones. You have to write in material escalation clauses, but GCs aren’t cool with that unless they were smart enough to write them into their contract. They bid some of these jobs 6-12 months prior to the job start, so materials can be 30% higher in that amount of time.
I was prepared for ridiculously high estimates, but I have to admit 2/3 of a million wasn’t even remotely in my worst case scenarios. Gonna have to tap the brakes a bit on building, no way we can hamstring ourselves with that mortgage.

I did. Flew for the Air Force for 20 years, retired in 2018. I’m a government contractor now, teaching new pilots to fly the C-130 in the simulator. Great gig, still feel connected to the plane and the community, but no more deployments to shitholes where all the neighbors are trying to kill me.
Same here. I flew Slicks at Pope in the mid-80s, then spent a long time flying MC-130Es in AFSOC. I did the sim contractor gig for a few years, as well. Love that airplane!

Awesome! I was at Pope from 2000-2004. Got a bunch of friends that went to MCs. It really is a great plane. Got me out of some very bad places, and you probably worse places, I’m sure. I always refer to it as the offensive lineman of the AF. Pretty slow, fat, sweaty. The fighter clowns and bombers and some of the bigger cargo planes get all the headlines, we only get noticed if we screw up. But no fight gets won without us doing our job.
When I was stationed in Berlin (88-91) there was a funny looking C-130 with a knobby nose that periodically landed at our base.

I know that sucks but as someone that is expanding the shouse I can tell you it’s the same boat everywhere. We do as much as possible ourselves (wiring, plumbing, etc) but material and fuel costs are high. I feel for the people that can’t afford gasoline at $5.20/gallon, it hurts me but at least I’m not paycheque to paycheque.

But I hsve found soccer to be the most fun sport I’ve played recreationally since I wrestled in high school. It is a ridiculously fun sport to play.

I picked up a trolling motor and will rig a mount for Canoe Girl’s kayak sometime this summer. I have too many projects already and kayaking and a pulled groin muscle don’t really go together too well.

You guys know how I like to overshare but I heard disturbing family news recently…one of my relatives nice young man operates the family farm and is one of my good sources of pheasant hunting spots. Married to a sweet gal from a local ranching family, they have three kids their youngest like 8 months old. I visit with him quite frequently and his wife is a delight to talk to…found out that there is a 50/50 shot he is the daddy to a baby incubating in a young like pre-21 year old uterus.

it is amazing how when you think you have something conquered, another thing arises.
but when they get along and are sweet towards each other and everything is good, it does feel really good.

I have perused a number of NFL team sites and it’s remarkable how similar the messaging is across all of them. Every team has players saying how excited they are and how great things are going. Every player is saying they’re working hard to get better every day. They say they’ve spent the off season getting bigger and stronger. Time will tell which teams are that little bit better than the rest of the league this year and get to the playoffs.
