Wow, over 800 comments yesterday on our 2nd full day of being live. To call the launch a success would be an understatment, thanks to all of you. So, thank you. Over at Vikings.com, Craig Peters notes that the Vikings defense is emphasizing cohesion in team practices, Kirk Cousins and Kevin O’Donnell are ranked as the league’s fifth-best new QB/HC duo, and Kyle Brandt lists Kirk Cousins as his dark horse MVP candidate. Those last two ought to make five’s head explode.

One has to wonder if the Vikings gave up on Hughes too soon. After three lackluster seasons in purple, Hughes was traded to the Chiefs, where he earned a 78.8 coverage grade last season. However, that doesn’t help this grade.
The real saving grace for this class is O’Neill, who has turned into a top-10 right tackle in the NFL as a second-rounder. He’s now earned 70.0-plus overall grades for three straight seasons.

Yeah there are 9 new HC’s in the NFL this year. A few have previous experience as head coaches (Lovie Smith and Doug Pederson leap to mind as well as Josh McDaniels) but there are several rookie head coaches in the mix.

I have no clue why many fans and even the media think the Vikings are going to go against facts and past history for rookie coaches.

Point is most pre-season rankings are heavily based on the previous years win/loss records. No one knows how the season will play out. Too many variables that could change the fate of any team.
How can that be depressing? Five expected 6 wins but I’m still at 3-4, If we win 6 it will be a miracle and we will be by far the luckiest team in the nfl. I would be elated.
Meh. Usually when a coach is fired the team sucks. KOC inheriting a decent team and Kirk gives you 7+ wins no matter what.
One other point, the Vikings have been historically cheap as hell relative to investing in coaches, often promoting someone from within because they were cheap, not spending up for coordinators, limiting total coaches, etc.

But a coach’s style can impact how the team plays together.
Not sure I follow you on that but the bottom line is every coach in the world regardless of sport is going to emphasize the importance of working together and melding the team into a unit.

Coaching styles are like leadership styles. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. Anyone who thinks one coaching style is better than any other doesn’t get it.

Coaches need to do everything in their power to get players to realize their fullest potential.
Totally agree. I often wonder what Zim and his coaching staff did with kickers that made them inconsistent with the Vikings, but good elsewhere. I just listened to the new STC, and he spoke to approaching every kick with the same process, regardless of situation and distance.
That’s the message every coach sends to every kicker. It’s the same with a golf shot. Go through your process and hit the ball. Whatever happens, happens and that’s it.

I’m just going by my family history. I’m 60. 80 is the average in our family. Like you, I have been blessed to make it this far. I should have been dead long ago by my bad choices.
My family has a bad history with heart disease, however my dad, one of his 2 brothers and his sisters all made it to their 80s. My oldest brother passed just shortly after his 62nd birthday with a massive heart attack. My youngest sister just had a 5 by pass surgery and she is 65. I am rapidly approaching 60. However on a positive note I just had my annual blood work and my cholesterol and blood sugar stuff is all normal.
My cholesterol was really high, so I stopped having it tested, it’s been fine ever since.

I listened to an interesting debate/conversation between three theologians representing pre, post, and amillennial views, moderated by John Piper. Very interesting, IMO. I liked the amillennialist the best.

I was just going to bring up amillennialism. It seems like Christianity has become dominated by pre and post, so that’s what I was at first because I didn’t know all of the options. I eventually settled on amillennialism. Everything is ready to go right now. Could happen today, which is fine by me.

Anyway, one of my favorite theologians is Seigbert Becker. He wrote a good book on Revelation. History is littered with people who tried to press Revelation too hard, made predictions and were proven wrong.
I was talking to an old guy about such things a while back. In his 70s easy. He belongs to a quasi-cult. He told me his spiel on things. I said I fell into the amillennialism point of view. He had never even heard of it. It boggled my brain. But his group does have their own “prophet” that doesn’t encourage a lot of questions.
Our denomination has many independent spirits, so I would say it is all over the place. For me, I just say whenever, I’m ready any day.

I’m predicting 7-7-3 and making the playoffs as the last wild card. Honestly there is zero evidence to suggest coaching will be better or worse. On paper they look a little better but games are played on grass/turf not paper. Somewhere between 10-7 or 7-10 seems likely.

New coaching, new systems on both sides of the ball, I’m not optimistic for a winning season. My prediction was 7-10 before the draft. I will stick with it.

I think it boils down to coaching. How well can the team adapt to the new offensive and defensive schemes and how well the players they have on the roster adapt to a 3-4 alignment. They were 8-9 last year, but gave away a handful of games because Zim forgot how to play defense in the last to minutes of each half. I could see 10-7 as easily as I could see 7-10.
I am having a hard time imagining the defense is poised to bounce back. I feel like the best case right now is that the offense is surprisingly good but still loses a number of high scoring games due to growing pains on the defensive side of the ball
Yep, that is the unknown. The wildcard is the new and returning players on D. Can Z and Hunter stay healthy? If so, the D should be improved. Cine and Booth should add upgrades at their respective spots.
I am willing to entertain the notion they could do slightly better. They did some mindboggling silly stuff last year to lose games. One would hope they could tighten down on those mistakes.
But I don’t expect a big improvement. A lot of our veterans have the stink of losing upon them. Difficult to wash that off at this stage. That is why I hoped for a rebuild and letting Kwesi and KOC at least try to construct their vision from the ground up. The Wilfs seem to have them playing the half-measures game.
Furthermore, the gravity of Kirk’s .500 record is difficult to escape at this point, as well.
Ergo, 9-8 is about as far as I allow my hopes to soar.

We are going to suck if we really improve. Dline sucks, 3 of 4 lb suck, cb all suck except maybe the rookie, Safeties solid. Should be top 30 defense, Offense might suck less unless we have injuries on the oline. One average player on oline is a god, spuds, the rest all suck except Christ could turn out to suck less. We are rated 23 and that is optimistic. New coaches everywhere, learning as they go. If we are really lucky and stupid we win 3 games. Unlucky we win 6 games and keep beaker.
