  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. Read this in article, and it pretty well sums the Kirk Cousins discussion up:

If the Vikings decide not to sign Cousins because of the combination of his age, price and recent injury history, that decision will come with a significant cost.

Minnesota will need to draft a QB in April — for whom the team may need to trade up, sacrificing significant assets in the process — sign some other pricey veteran in free agency who doesn’t have the history or chemistry Cousins does inside the locker room, or gamble on either Jaren Hall or Nick Mullens as the starter in 2024.

Beyond those scenarios, however, it will cost the Vikings a $28.5 million dead cap hit if Cousins’ contract voids in March. Signing the QB to a new deal, even an expensive one, makes some sense because of that. Minnesota would still eventually have to negotiate that money into the salary cap at some point in the future, however re-signing Cousins is the team’s best path to remaining competitive in the short-term.

“Sign Cousins, and you might be risking a more malleable future with a franchise-defining upside,” Alec Lewis of The Athletic wrote on Thursday, January 25. “Opt to go the other route, and you might be risking years of inconsistency only to end up feeling that all you need to get over the hump is a quarterback like Kirk Cousins.”

This is good stuff and reasonable.
As I said during the week, if I was GM, I couldn’t make this decision without a thorough review of where we’re at – principally if all had stayed healthy. could we have beaten Detroit for the division. And for this I don’t mean does Detroit have more talent on the roster, could we have won the division.

What the author fails to realize is that the Vikings are inconsistent WITH Kirk as the QB. Playoffs every other year defines inconsistent.

No matter what happens, because of Kirks salary, the Vikings will have a year of Kirks salary on the books for a year after he is gone. Whether it’s this year, or 2 to 3 years down the road.

Getting over the hump was the exact reason why Cousins was signed in 2018.
“A QB away from a super bowl” It didn’t work.

Here we are discussing the same thing 6 years later.

I don’t think the author fails to realize anything here. It is accurate to say the Vikings already have one of the best QB’s in the league, so changing horses now, is a risk. The chances of replacing him with a QB that would achieve his level of play anytime soon, are slim to none. So, letting Cousins walk, almost guarantees failure in the near term.

And six years later, the only piece of the team that has been good every single year is Cousins.

This works for me…

On Wednesday, Ohio Republicans voted to override Gov. Mike DeWine’s (R) veto on House Bill 68, marking a significant milestone in the state’s legislative history. This bill, comprising the “Save Adolescents from Experimentation Act” and the “Save Women’s Sports Act,” effectively bans transgender procedures on minors and prohibits males from competing in female sports. Following the House’s lead, the Ohio state Senate voted in favor of this override, affirming a commitment to what many conservatives see as common-sense protections for children and the integrity of women’s sports.

DeWine claimed that his opposition to the bill was rooted in his belief that it infringed on parental rights and could jeopardize lives. He emphasized the importance of parental involvement in these sensitive medical decisions, asserting that “the government knows better what is medically best for a child than the two people who love that child the most, the parents.” However, the bill’s proponents argue that such irreversible medical procedures should not be in the hands of minors, who are almost always unable to fully comprehend the long-term consequences of their decisions.

My son grew up in a more liberal time than I did, of course, and he sees things a little differently than I do on the whole. We talk about things, because he is seeing the decline in our country just as most of the rest of us have, and he doesn’t like it. Our talks are always civil. He told me yesterday that he’s starting to see my point on a lot of things. He was a huge Bernie Sanders supporter, for instance. He has seen the light on that though, as he can now see Socialism does mean people are equally rich, it means people are equally poor, and downtrodden, and only the political elites benefit.

He told me that “all wokeness is not bad, dad” and I told him, “the problem with wokeness is, it’s a bunch of activists lambasting ordinary people for not being as virtuous as they are. It’s insulting in the extreme, and has no real value in the end.”

He paused and said “so, we’re not getting better by being woke, we’re just creating more division than ever?” And I answered in the affirmative.

I could quickly and effectively clear up the border issues. Make it the policy of the U.S. that all immigrants coming to the border, can only enter the country if there is someone there to pick them up, bring them home, and take care of them until such time as they have become legal citizens and can take care of themselves. This includes, housing, clothing, sustenance, education, and medical expenses.

All the people clamoring for open borders can come down and pick up as many immigrants as they want.

This probably would have good to post before the summary. A couple of years ago I was at an auction and picked up an old suitcase full of sheet music from the early 1900s. I have had some luck selling sheet music, probably mostly to collectors or those seeking nostalgia. I ran across one today that may get me in trouble if I try to sell it. It was an old piece from 1903 that was used as advertising for a Canadian company that sold pianos and organs. The name of the music is Cotton Coon’s Two Step. And yes, the front cover has a drawing of people that have a lot of melanin. Canadians really are racist.

In 1982 it became considered too Racist to continue so they sold off their locations to Denny’s and Bakers Square.

Health Update, after seeing the Doc this week with consistent BP in the 130s over 80ish (give our take a couple points) he is satisfied and doesn’t want to see me again for 6 months and if I continue my weight loss and health hoping to come off of some of the meds. Yesterday ran for 2 miles for the first time in my life. Just over 19 minutes to do it. Not bad at 265 lbs lol. Running seems to be the only thing that actually gets my heart rate up into a good spot to give it a workout. Anyone else have this problem? I have a very strong heart and from the years of football it was all sprint work. I had a doctor one time go, man I love the sound of an athlete’s heart when I was in college lol. But doing my isometric yoga with blood flow resistance bands, it’s hard work, I’m sweating, I’m shaking, but my heart rate in 50-60 minutes of that MAYBE gets into the 120s for a few minutes. It’s still important to do, sheds a lot of calories, low impact, really helps flexibility. Doing the assault bike, again sweating, difficult, legs and arms burning, heart only gets up into the 100s, 110s barely. Running get up into the 120s in about 3-4 minutes maxing out in the 140s, maybe 150 a time or too. Wish I had a dojo that did Jujitsu around me, I am sure when I was doing that my heart rate got up! lol.

Clearly you’re making immense progress. Great stuff here. Being married to a former competitive bodybuilder (NOT a healthy sport) and now just a fitness nut, it takes tremendous dedication and discipline to stick to a regimen and keep losing weight. She has days where she’s putting on her workout togs and saying over and over, “I really don’t want to do this today”. Then she gets in her car and off she goes.

Really impressed with you Edge.

As to getting your heart rate up, stationary cycling can work, and not put as much stress on your tendons and joints.

Thanks man appreciate it. Sticking to the grind is tough but I really enjoy the consistency if I’m being honest but yeas some mornings I am just tired and sore and don’t want to do shit but always glad when I do it. I too thought the stationary cycling was doing it but once I got that HRM I learned it wasn’t up where it should be to give my a heart a good workout.

I am OK with either lol. But at this juncture I am only getting it into the fat burn zone. 138 to 148 is optimal for me but it’s hard as shit for me to get it up that high. In fact running and elliptical (I think, it’s been a while since doing that) seems to be the only things working to get it there. Granted when 30 lbs heavier the DDPY got me into the 120s 130s but not any more. Well it’ll get into the 120s but barely and for a very short period of time. My heart rate drops back down very very quickly.

what’s the formula. 220 – age x .75 is that right for you?
And times matter here – 20 minutes is different than 30 and then 40.
I was a runner, loved it – before knee replacement.
A once in a while workout I loved. Run a 100 yards pretty fast (like 95%). then walk fast for a 100 – then repeat, and repeat. Go as many miles as you like. Make it harder (don’t know your strength), try this with a 3 lb weight in each hand.
This burns a lot of calories and is really good for your heart with the up and down training – fast and slow.
Just an idea.

Interesting, this is good stuff. I don’t know the formula. I just use an app where I type my age in lol. I should do more sprint work my whole goal was to get away from that when I started because I was good with sprint work after sprint work was all I ever did for football training. I am much stronger and explosive than my endurance. Endurance has always been an issue. I am a little scared to sprint that much, afraid of pulling something haha. Trying to be as non-pounding on my joints as possible especially because my weight is still pretty high.

I actually heard this from a knee surgeon (had a torn me niscus). Claimed jogging will destroy your joints. when you sprint, you use muscles differently that protect knee some.
Sort of man was meant to sprint, for a while, away from the tiger, and then walk. Was not meant to run a marathon.
He gave me this sprint/walk thing to protect my knee. Like a fool, kept running but did enjoy this sometime.
Oh, a killer workout. 50 pushups, 10 pullups, farmers carry, sprint on treadmill 60 seconds then repeat as fast as you can go. This will get and keep your heart up, and blast calories.

I’ve done a lot of walking the last few years. It’s proven very effective. I think I read (or was told) that for every pound you lose, it takes 4lbs of pressure off your knees/lower extremities. I don’t jog and I don’t run – I often tell people that if they see me running, they should also be running – but I walk a lot and 2/3 days a week I’ll listen to podcasts in my basement while on an old school exercise bike. Thinking of getting a row machine.

I have a local rec center 4 blocks from me – I often take Goose to the run early in the morning and then go there or I’ll go there first and take him to get a pup cup at the coffee shop. 15 laps around the walking track is a mile and I’ll throw on headphones and walk 45 laps until it’s over. Then walk home. I’m usually at Home Depot/Lowe’s/Costco once a day and make a point to park near the end of the lot and walk around the store quite a bit – I did none of this stuff 3 years ago – should’ve been doing it all along.

Skip it then. bench – 10 reps. got to lat pull down machine and do 10 reps. farmers csrry 100 in each hand up and down gym. Teadmill 60 seconds fast and then redo. Faster you go through this, faster heart beat and calorie burn.
I love running too – understand.

I have always read the opposite, that bipedal locomotion arose as a low energy way of crossing ground. In other words, a fit (wo)man could eventually run down an ungulate like a buffalo or deer as they would run to exhaustion long before a human would.

I have never tested the theory.

As a jogger with a lot of miles, it does wear on the knee cartlege.
Now, the sprinting is only for very short distances.
Supposedly, when sprinting you are more up on the balls of your feet with less heel pounding like jogging.
either way, moderation is usually best.

Jrob – In regards to your golf comment about Irons from yesterday. I find between this and closing my club face with my driver to be the most difficult things for me to grasp in my golf game. I dont golf nearly as much as I should to be improving, which is on me but I still try to focus on these things when im out. I had my iron swing DOWN for one summer, didnt golf again until the summer after, lost it all. Last fall I golfed for one last time in early October and I hit my irons the best I had in literal years. I greened a shot with my 9 iron from maybe 90 or 100 yards out (I usually club up because of my poor contact) and it was pure as ever, no divot, skied, dropped it 5 ft from the pin like it fell out of the sky. Felt so good. And I two putted lol

No matter what folks say golf is a hard game and does take some practice. Playing once a year is very, very difficult.
That said, modern instruction makes the game far to difficult for most am’s. Too many things to think about – shift your weight, left arm straight, head down etc.
Yet, if I told you to pick up an ax and hit a log – you’d do it well without all that crap.
Divots – don’t worry about it. The divot should happen as a ‘result’ of good swing. Don’t try to make it happen.
Last thought. My son is a Plus 5 handicapper. Only think I told him – grip the club and swing it back over right shoulder, and then swing it forward brushing the grass and put club over left shoulder. Everything else will happen naturally, just let it.
Good luck.

There’s something said in society that’s been around awhile and even some say hear WRT football.
‘Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome is insanity.’
Pretty sure all have heard it. I submit it’s flawed.
I. think rather – ‘Doing the EXACT same thing in the SAME fashion and expecting a different outcome’ is much more correct.
Sometimes just a small ingrediant change, or a small process adjustment, will yield very different outcomes – the difference between success and failure.
Now, more coffee.

I learned this in a story from a teacher I had in high school before I had ever head that quote about insanity. This teacher went to a retirement party and the old guy retiring was saying how kids have changed and they are the issue because he said he taught the same way for 30 or whatever years, didn’t change anything and it seemed every year the kids got worse and learned less. That teacher said he didn’t have the heart to tell him that the fact he never changed was the issue… not the kids.

Hmmm… well, hindsight is 20-20. That’s what makes it easy to see how genius it was for the Chiefs to trade up and select Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft. You may not know Mahomes actually cheated though, to impress Andy Reid on his pre-draft visit.

The move itself was actually good for both the Bills and the Chiefs. The Chiefs were already on the rise when they traded up to pick Mahomes, while the Bills were mired in mediocrity. Thanks to that move, both teams now reside among the AFC’s best.

The Chiefs gave up a third in the 2017 draft, and a first in the 2018 draft to move from 27th to 10th to select Mahomes. That’s not a lot of real estate. You sort of missed wide right on your comparison there. Selling the farm for a player is one thing, making a sound move is quite another.

You also might note, the quarterbacks available in the 2017 draft all had some enticing traits, but none were viewed as a sure thing. Trubisky went second overall to the Chicago Bears. Mahomes went 10th to the Chiefs, and Deshaun Watson went to the Texans two picks later. Deshone Kizer from Notre Dame was the only other quarterback taken in the first two rounds.

It wasn’t the lock Andy Reid thought it was though, because Matt Nagy had prepped Mahomes the day before his interview, with all the plays and questions Reid was going to discuss with him. Mahomes studied everything all night, and the next day Reid was blown away with his level of knowledge.

Well if they Bears want to move back because they have their QBoF and no one else is offering much better then the value chart doesn’t mean squat. It’s the market value not the perceived value things sell and trade at.

Nice thought. And the real estate market sure proves that. Market value is only as good as what someone will pay for it, regardless of appraised value.

That’s not a team in the NFL you racist!

lol
PS, when I was on the Rez the only people upset about the name were Redskins fans mad that they were changing the name lol.

Laughing… yeah, there was a Washington Post reporter who set out to write a “hit piece” article to denigrate the team for its “racist” name. He interviewed Native Americans all over the country and found out something like 98% of them either liked the name, or didn’t care. To his credit, he wrote an article admitting he was wrong.

When Dan Snyder sold the team to the new owners group, some Native American organization contacted them, asking them to change the name back to the Redskins.

Yes, polls showed the big UND “Fighting Sioux” was mostly popular with the Native Americans in North Dakota.

Apparently a few tribal leaders were interested in shaking down the state for “naming rights” so ultimately they changed the name.

The Standing Rock and Spirit Lake Sioux tribes in ND had to give namesake approval or the NCAA would mandate the changing of the name.

Spirit Lake voted to keep the name, but the Standing Rock tribal counsel would not allow a vote to take place without promise of monetary compensation.

Yup. I found that dumb. Tribal Counsels are insanely corrupt. I knew a guy that got on counsel because he had vans drive people from his district to the only off sale alcohol place in town to get their votes….

Haha, true. Same dude later was found to have his wife locked in their garage, for probably weeks? Gave her a bucket to go to the bathroom in and food… he caught her cheating. He did not lose his spot on counsel… fucking slimey. One of the biggest enabling of poor behaviors and choices on the Rez is the Tribal Counsel.

If you were owner of the Falcons would you have hired BB or Raheem Moore?

Either is fine.

Yep.
That’s why I advocate dumping everyone you can, draft players better that Rick could, and hope that by 2025 you are competitive again.

2024 is gonna be rough, with or without the same QB room.

Well keeping Cousins (and I have no idea how one would go about doing that) would probably mean the offense could be explosive to the point of being the #1 offense in the league. A 3rd year with the same OC, and system, might mean a record breaking year for Cousins. I’m talking 5500 yards and and 50 TD’s… no Vikings QB has ever come close to those numbers.

We could likely outscore almost any team in the league, which would give us a shot at the NFC North, and beyond, if the defense performed as it did this year.

That is the “potential” I see, because of Cousins brain and arm talent, coupled with a total mastery of KOC’s complex offensive scheme.

I still don’t see KAM agreeing to terms with Cousins though. I still think he will be playing for another team next year.

I would have gone with BB. Raheem Morris has been tried and was below average. Take a shot with BB, sign Cousins, and win, now.
